2. This Idea conforms to the visual style of surrealism in terms of how it
presents an image that is abstract and exaggerated.
The overall genre wouldn’t necessarily comply to that of my music video as
it lacks a the honesty and simplicity that my video and song provides. The
cover tells a story parallel to that of my video – the planet is mirrored and
shown in the distance which infers the idea of reflection and remorse.
Alongside this, the planet could represent the ego or control of the male
character as this is why the relationship ended in the storyline, reinforced
with the cityscape on the planet which could connote the idea of hiding
within hegemonic society. The audience that this would appeal to isn’t my
target audience as it seems like it would be used by a more
psychedelic/electronic band whereas mine is less extravagant in that
nature.
The magazine page visually applies to the cover very well in terms of links
in design. The presentation carries representation greatly. The way that the
logo falls upon the planet connotes hierarchy and control again. There is
possibility of having a person / silhouette walking on the planet which could
alternatively carry an opposite effect as to if the planet represents the artist.
The person walking could infer that the artist is shy and humble which falls
more into correlation with the connotations of my video. The album will be
located on the bottom of the page with a background of dark space. This
could infer that the album is for people who feel lost in themselves and
need something to hold on to.
INITIAL IDEA 1
3. INITIAL IDEA 2
This Idea conforms to the visual style of minimalistic surrealism.
The genre and composure of the cover will greatly link to the idea of
creativity and innovation which I tried to pursue in my video itself. The
melted newton's cradle infers the malleability of the relationship and the
play around with the idea that actions have consequences. With the cradle
being central, it reinforces the motif in the video and makes it the centre of
focus, adding to its significance and promoting the idea as the main aspect
to the storyline. The way that a silhouette is walking on top of the cradle
infers the idea that caution needs to be taken in a relationship, adding to the
interpretation that actions have consequences. And that the smallest jolt to
the cradle will cause movement. The shot may be composed with the male
character holding the cradle yet being cast into the background in darkness.
This links to the colour grading of the character in the shots in the music
video and furthermore provides the character with a stronger sense of
control and power.
The magazine page will follow a similar path in terms of representation as
the silhouette will be closer to the audience and the cradle will be enlarged.
The target audience will be appealed to in t6erms of how it is an overall
innovative design. As well as this, as mentioned in a previous post, the
cradle inter-textualises inception, therefore having a stronger connection to
a more mature audience.
4. INITIAL IDEA 3
This Idea conforms to the visual style of surrealism and modern retro.
Combining an altered sense of reality with one that is collaged together.
The genre, similarly to idea 2, follows the path of creativity and innovation in
that the design is very representative. The main focus of the cover will be
the face of the main character of the video, directly connecting the two
productions. The focus on this character plays on the idea of honestly and
mortality as the audience is faced with a rather raw and real image. The
section replacing the characters eyes will be filled with a cartoon-style
design. Displaying motifs, and other elements of the video in the cover. This
also creates an inference of a parallel dimension or parallel view of the
storyline. Which, in itself, directly links to the aim of the music video to offer
chances of multiple interpretations and views to the audience. This
emphasises the projected creativity and applies to unknowingly to the
audience.
The magazine page provides great similarity to the cover. The cartoon-like
design will be present at the bottom of the page and the image of the male
character will be absent. This absence draws focus to the cover which will
be contrasted by a dark background in order to prevent clutter or over
marketing. This consideration develops again a more honest persona for
the artist and can link again to my target audience.
