2. TAME IMPALA
âThis song constantly reminds me of my uncle, who pass away of a sudden heart
attack, almost two years ago. It's a beautiful song, thank you for make something
so tragic into something melodious and artistic.â
âTame Impala's baseline in any of their songs gives me life.â
âThis song means a lot to me, although I do not have one specific memory to it.
The sound, feeling and atmosphere are just magical. AMAZING. (almost) makes me
cryâ
Tame Impala is an Australian Psychedelic rock band formed in 2007. Their constructed target market are teens to adults â intrigued by being indulged in the
feeling of music. People who enjoy making music, going to concerts and appreciate the efforts of artists against the mainstream would also be targeted by
this band. Audiences would describe themselves as alternative, edgy and hip â generating an image and person against the idea of hegemony and in search
of a way to escape. They would tend to read NME, be intrigued by platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to follow alternative celebrities.
From my research on the song âLet it Happenâ I have found that the actual audience is relatively similar to that which is constructed. Comments on the sing
and video include:
This evidently depicts the band as an aspirational idol to their fans. Providing a great line of hope and belonging and allowing the audience to identify with the
messages that they put across. Alternatively, we can see how the audience doesnât always have to fully relate to the music to feel something from it. For an
audience to relate to a bands message develops an emotional attachment to them, this instantly creates a reliant bond which would be hard to hinder. To use
a similar construct for my music video would mean that I would have to develop a storyline that can be interoperated in many ways. Regarding my idea of a
break up/reaching out song, It can be related to by the majority of audiences, yet the video alone can be well composed to generate a very enticing
atmosphere which deviates from the overall message.
The Tame impala webpage instantly appeals to the target audience. The
aspiring individuals who enjoy making their own music are faced with a
clip of a band member making a song. This could be a teaser for new
content or an extra clip for fans. This again shows how the group are
involved with the fanbase â allowing them to be aspirers in society. The
main page is very simplistic and psychedelic, conforming with the genre
of music. This could also suggest that the constructed audience are
hippies or involved in psycadelic culture.
3. MY CONSTRUCTED AUDIENCE
SOCIAL STATUS
The constructed audience would contain aspirers and slightly retired characters on society.
Mainly because the video and song overs a relatively common issue in the music industry, as
well as how this common issue can be incredibly hurtful on individuals, therefore, the video can
allow the more retired people to feel a sense of belonging and show them that they are not the
only ones in the situation.
Teens in the C-E categories will be addressed. With teens being the common age of relationship
issues, it seems ideal to provide them with a video and song which addresses their issues.
GENRE AND ARTISTS
Common genre interests would be indie, rock and alternative music, these genres tend to be
placed on artists who provide a sense of escapism from the real world. Artists such as Twenty
One Pilots, Oasis, Post Malone all provide songs which identify with the audience, providing
relatable lyrics and coming from backgrounds themselves which can also be aspired to by the
constructed market.
BRANDS
My audience would most likely be intrigued by abstract and vintage clothing. Enjoying brands
such as Adidas, Nike, Puma and Rebok. Bright colours and accessories which divert from
hegemony would also be worn. Reasons for this could be to create an individual identity which
diverts from other cultures and groups. As well as this, in deconstructs clothing from the past
(vintage) to modernise them in their own unique way.
ENTERTAINMENT
My audience would tend to refrain from going to cinemas or theatres. They instead would prefer
festivals, gigs and concerts with a passion for music creation and performance. They also,
through this, would read magazines such as NME which tend to promote smaller artists who fall
in the preferred genre of my constructed audience. In terms of Television, shows like Skins and
Freaks and Geeks would tend to be watched by my audience. These shows explore identity and
culture, identifying with many issues that they could be facing in their own lives.
