2. Evaluation of Images
All of my potential images follow a theme that I wish to convey and reinforce within my print productions, that of naturalism through location
and lighting. As well as this I wanted to use the same male protagonist as in the music video to create a direct link and maintain synergy and
continuity across all productions, thus increasing familiarity for the audience which is crucial when building a cohesive image and brand
identity. I wanted my print productions to resemble and reinforce the narrative presented within the video, that of relationships being
fragmented and leaving people feeling alone and isolated. The natural location correlates and supports this theme of isolation as they are open
spaces making the character seem small and fragile. As Indie music is focused around it's relatable lyrics and songs, I wanted this to be
resembled in my print productions also, taking everyday places with a familiar topic of relationships; then in post-production changing the Hue
of the image to make it almost psychedelic and fragmented. Going into this task, because of the extensive research I had conducted I already
knew the basic idea I wanted, so I kept this in mind when collecting the range of images. In the first image shown in the slide prior, it displays a
more urban and decayed look, this connotes instability and fragmentation of industrial locations. With the spray paint resembling deviance
and rebellion, I felt this image could be incorporated to suggest life after a relationship is bleak and desaturated almost, seen through the
colours and low key lighting. The third image across displays a contrasting representation in comparison to my video and other images, in the
sense that it puts the male protagonist in the power position through the low angle shot and indirect address. Across all of these images I have
chosen to use mid shots to display the location and how the character is lost within it almost. The picture in the bottom right is perhaps my
favorite as it holds the most potential for symbolism, representation and composition. I have shot it so the male protagonist is almost in a
silhouette, this allows the audience to connect and allow them to put themselves in the shoes of the character. As the subjects raised within
the video are relative and familiar to the audience, they may find comfort or acceptance through the music, I wish to reinforce that across my
print productions.
