Poster Ideas
Theme Ideas
Kidnapper: The kidnapper could be an
effective character to show on the poster
as it is quite a dramatic scene in the soap
opera trailer. It may reveal too much of
the narrative as the kidnapper needs to
have a ‘shock’ factor in the trailer.
Death: The scene in which the main
female character is hanging is very dark
which would be effective but may not be
appropriate for a wider audience.
Worried: This could be a dramatic poster
if the image of the worried girl is
executed effectively. It won’t reveal too
much of the narrative and is appropriate
for a wide audience range.
Images needed:
Some of the girls identifiable features
would need to be in the frame so
that the viewer can can tell who she
is. The background is one if the main
elements of the shot as it will link to
the trailer and provide the ‘dark’
setting. This will be based in an alley
similar to the one featured in the
trailer itself for continuity. It should
be a low angle shot. I would like it to
be landscape.
Other: I think the image
manipulation should be kept to a
minimum as I want the shot to
have a ‘real’ look to it. I think that
the contrast should be increased
and the colours dulled down to
create a dark mood.
Tagline:
“Hanging by a thread” – This links in
well with the narrative of my trailer,
the soap opera name and also my
magazine. I doesn’t give away too
much and is quite dramatic. This
connotes to the theme of suicide
subtly.
“No one can hear you scream” – This
also links into the narrative with the
kidnapping and the murder and is also
quite dramatic due to the verbal code
‘scream’. The connotations behind this
link to the isolation and terror that
one of the characters will experience.
Point of call: The point of call
information will include the date
of when my soap opera will air. It
will also feature the BBC two logo,
this is important as viewers will
know when and where the soap
opera will be shown which will
increase the number of viewers.
Synergy with social media/magazine: Social media icons will be present on
the poster as they will help to market my new soap opera to a wide audience as
well as building up and generating hype. I plan on also using a hashtag such as
#hanginghilllane which will also help to create awareness of my soap. Thinks can
be ‘liked’ and ‘shared’ on social media which would be a great advantage for my
soap opera as people would be aware of it which is why synergy with social
media is important to include on my poster.
Mind Map - Conclusion
• I will now need to obtain the images required for my poster. I plan on taking multiple
pictures so that I can choose the best one to use. Once I have the necessary image I can
begin to manipulate it in Photoshop.
• I will need to locate and download the right fonts from dafont.com and in Photoshop
itself to use for the text that will be presented in different areas of the poster like the
point of call information and the tagline.
• I will be using Adobe Photoshop CS5 to create my second ancillary product as it is brilliant
for photo manipulation as well as text manipulation which is very necessary for my soap
opera poster.
