The document describes various communication methods planning techniques:
1. Mind mapping allows for organizing all ideas in one place but can be difficult for some.
2. Mood boards provide quick visual inspiration but lack detail.
3. Style sheets provide more detail than mood boards but take more time.
4. Layout plans are helpful when pictures are needed but more text is preferable.
The responses evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each technique and whether the person prefers using them. Independent brainstorming is preferred over group work with unfamiliar people. Informal feedback is only useful when not tired. Sketching can capture multiple ideas but isn't always necessary.
2. Codes
Number Name Brief Description
1 Compliance Compliance means that you shouldn’t lie about what your product is about, an
example of this would be when red bull says that Redbull has a lot of cafine, it
actually has less than what you see
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
This just means that you advertisement needs to be clear about what your
trying to advertise. So if its about a Drink then your product needs to show
that it relates to the product
3 Misleading Adverts This is kinda like the same as Compliance but instead of what the company
says about their product, its more aimed at the advertisements they produce.
An example could be thoughs really dumb perfume/aftershave adds where SO
much random stuff happens and its not realistic
4 Harm and Offence This is just saying to not put anything that will offend the viewer while they
are watching your add, this coud be aimed at Stereyo-types, Race, Gender,
and many more
5 Children Just tells you to not advertise anything dangerous for a younger audiences, for
example don’t make a ad that shows a kid doing a stunt on a skateboard that
clearly hes had a lot of training
6 Privacy You just need Promission from whoever you wanting to add or sponsor, other
wise you will get in some bother with others
13 Food, food
supplements
and associated health
or nutritional claims
This one is very simple, Your not allowed to promote poor diets like eating 5
big macs everyday or you need to show proof that your health plan/diet is up
to standard and isn’t random words saying “Yeah its good for you.”
5. Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
– Your able to have all your ideas in one piece of paper/(whatever
you use) and can even change ideas with the other ideas you
put down
• Weaknesses of using this method
– If you suck at writing and your on paper then its annoying
– Also some people could be better off just thinking of ideas as
they go
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• Its not a bad idea to make a mind map but it dose take me
a bit to figure out what I sorta want on the mind map so I
would rather just make a list but this also works as well
7. Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
Quick looks on the images to get a good idea on what
your product is gonna turn out
• Weaknesses of using this method
Don’t show that much info due to it mostly being images
• Did you like using this method? Why? Nope, I
don’t like using mood board because I can have a
good idea on what its going to look like in my
head. So I rather see text about my product more
than just images.
8. Style Sheet
The sky
Colour
of coca
cola
the
white
text in
coca cola
The
sea
Could be
either
the Fizz
or sand
The actual
colour of
the liquid
of coca
cola
9. Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
– Can always look back onto it, cant really go wrong with your
ideas while looking at it, unless your wanting to change your
mind
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Same with Mood board, it takes a bit of your time more than
mind map (personally)
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like it more than the mood board because its more
detailed but it dose take a bit of time and its still helpful to
have a bit of text here and then.
11. Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
– Its all there. Your idea but in less detail but it gets the job done
• Weaknesses of using this method
– The time it took for this one is the longest cause of the little
extra detail that was both important and needed
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I do like this method, though this depends because if it
wasn’t much picture and more text then I wouldn’t bother
but because this poster is like a scene then yeah I would do
this
12.
13. Independent Brainstorm
Sound effects that could be used:
• Walking
• Can opening
• Sitting sound
• Drinking
• Door opening
• Talking (duh)
• Coca cola jingle
What could be said in the radio ad:
(Starts with man coming out from door and then
sitting down while also hearing the man sitting
down and saying “Oh that’s better.”) “So now
that summer is over, the colder seasons are
coming in and the warmth gose away.” “But do
you know what stays after summer? Have a
guess.” (pause for around about 3 seconds)
“That’s right.” (sound of coca cola being opened)
“Coca cola, even when its cold, you still want to
drink us” (then coca cola ending theme)
14. Independent Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
– Being able to have your own idea and can always look back
and change things
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Being alone to work on something could possibly be
harder if your not sure what to do and can be a bit lonely
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I do like working independently because I am used to
work alone a lot, sure it could be a pain but its not that
bad
15. Group Idea Generation
Harrison, Jack and Ben
For our final idea, we though Ben’s
idea was a pretty good one where it’s
a bunch of noise and clutter in one
part of it and the second theres a coca
cola can opening it then slowly turns
more peaceful and jolly with possibly
people relaxing and having fun like on
a beach
Sound effects that would possibly be
used:
• Crowd talking
• Phones ringing and pinging
• Lots of foot steps
• Cars honking/traffic jam
• Coca cola can opening
• Calm sea sound
• Kids laughing
• Ball hitting sounds (could be
multiple sounds)
• Sitting sound effects
• Possible closing line saying “Coca
cola, open happiness”.
• Sigh sound effects.
16.
17. Group Idea Generation
• Strengths of using this method
Two brains are better than one and this method creates way
more ideas for whatever the group is doing
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Sometimes ideas might clash and cause problems with the
project and could take a while to sort out
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• If its people I know then this mothed is a pretty good
idea but if its people I don’t really know then it
becomes a problem
18. Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– Telling your ideas to someone with more experiences
will always be good because you can also get iddeas
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Being shy or tired is not really a good mood to be in if
your being given some ideas
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• If im tired then im probably not gonna remember
it that much but it is pretty helpful to get help
19. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– You can look back at it and your teachers and view what you have put
down and can talk to you with your ideas.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Just takes some time to put in what you wanna say about how this is a
good project and such
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• It pretty much like writing down what your gonna do in a quick
summary but with steps so I don’t mind this idea but I would rather
just jot down what my head can come up with and go from there.
20.
21. Initial Reaction
• With the next task we were given, its to make a Advergame
with using pixel art and photoshop to make it.
• Ill probably find using photoshop to be more tricky sinces I
haven’t used it that much still at this time but with pixel art, it
wont be that hard to make
• I've never done animation ever in photoshop so its all gonna
be new for me
• And my idea for what I'm going to make, it has to relate to
coca cola but I'm not 100% sure what's going to happen in it
but ill think of something.
22. Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
Can look back onto what you said and use that to help with
the current project
• Weaknesses of using this method
If you got no idea what to say then this is pointless, if you’re a
slow typer it might be hard and you might want some practice
more than just hearing out what your doing.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I mean in the end of the day, your basically making a list but
written if as you were asked about what your thought about
what your doing so I probably would use this a lot more than
any other method
24. Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
your idea is literally there for you to see and you can
multiple different ideas and helps a lot to look back at
• Weaknesses of using this method
It dose take a bit of time to make and depending on who
you are, you could take up to an hour of doing this
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I do like the idea because I could make a sketch to
look like the main design but im quite a creative
minded person so I don’t really need to sketch but
it could be helpful to me
25. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
• You can look back at it and your teachers and view what
you have put down and can talk to you with your ideas.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Just takes some time to put in what you wanna say about how
this is a good project and such
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• It pretty much like writing down what your gonna do in a
quick summary but with steps so I don’t mind this idea but I
would rather just jot down what my head can come up with
and go from there.
