This is called a VENN DIAGRAM. It is
used to represent sets. This diagram
shows two sets.
From this Venn diagram, we can say
that:
★ Amy and Daniel like singing but
do not like football.
★ John likes football but does not
like singing.
★ Clare and Alice like both singing
and football.
In this lesson, we will explore the Venn
Diagram, and how it is used in
Mathematics.

16. SUMMARY
● A Venn Diagram is used to represent sets and their operations, such as intersection and
union of sets.
● It consists of a rectangle, with two or more circles inside. The circles are usually overlapping
or one circle is inside another.
● The rectangle represents the Universal Set.
● The area where the circles overlap represents the intersection.
● If one set is a subset of the other, the second circle is placed inside the first to represent the
subset.
● Shading of a Venn diagram can be used to represent various set operations.
