3. OBJECTIVES
LESSON OBJECTIVE(S) [OBJETIVOS DE LA LECCIÓN]
By the end of this lesson, the student should be able to:
● Describe the connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change.
● Describe the main effects of climate change via global warming.
Al final de esta lección, el estudiante debe ser capaz de:
● Describir la conexión entre la quema de combustibles fósiles y el cambio climático.
● Describir los principales efectos del cambio climático a través del calentamiento global.

6. INTRODUCTION
Have you noticed
there are more
hurricanes lately?
And the Categories
are going up. Last year
we saw a hurricane
get really close to
Category 5!
Let’s see what those
Categories mean.
Click the triangle and
watch the video.
7. More intense hurricanes are a
consequence of climate change
due to global warming.
In this lesson we will learn how
fossil fuels are connected to this
phenomenon.
8. What is Climate Change and What Causes It?
Watch the video below and answer the questions given. Write the answers in your notebook to share with
your class.
1. What effect is the main cause of climate change?
2. Name two (2) gases that behave like walls of a greenhouse?
3. What do these gases do with the heat coming from the Sun?
4. Which gas has increased in the atmosphere by more than one-third (⅓) since the Industrial
Revolution? What process releases large amounts of this gas?
5. Name three (3) aspects of our lives affected by climate change?
6. How does climate change cause increased flooding?
7. Climate change leads to more intense weather. Besides stronger storms, what else gets more
intense?
9. What is Climate Change and What Causes It?
Watch the video
below and answer
the questions
given. Write the
answers in your
notebook to share
with your class.
10. Climate change is caused by
greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a
greenhouse gas.
The burning of fossil fuels releases
this gas into the atmosphere in
large quantities.
11. SUMMARY
● Climate change is caused by the greenhouse effect, powered by gases that behave like
walls of a greenhouse in the atmosphere.
● Carbon dioxide is one of those greenhouse gases. Since the Industrial Revolution, the
burning of fossil fuels releases this gas into the atmosphere in large quantities. So much
that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by ⅓ since the
Industrial Revolution.
● Climate change has many effects on weather, human health and food production, amongst
other areas.
