1. CLASS: MATH FORM 1
TOPIC OF LESSON: Set Theory II
MODULE / SECTION: Module 1 - Number & Number
Sense
2. OBJECTIVES
SYLLABUS OBJECTIVE(S) [OBJETIVO DE SYLLABUS]
Candidate should be able to:
Classify types of numbers using the knowledge of Set Theory
El candidato debe ser capaz de:
Clasifique los tipos de números usando el conocimiento de la teoría de
conjuntos.
3. OBJECTIVES
LESSON OBJECTIVE(S) [OBJETIVOS DE LA LECCIÓN]
By the end of this lesson, the student should be able to:
● Explain the features of union and intersection, including examples from number classification;
● Describe the set notation for union and intersection;
● Interpret set notation that includes that for union and intersection.
Al final de esta lección, el estudiante debe ser capaz de:
● Explicar las características de unión e intersección, incluidos ejemplos de clasificación de
números;
● Describe la notación de conjunto para unión e intersección;
● Interpretar la notación del conjunto que incluye eso para la unión y la intersección.

Set Theory I
6. INTRODUCTION [INTRODUCCIÓN] cont’d/…
What if we placed these shapes in different groups?
★ Shapes with 4 sides = A & F
★ Shapes with all lines of equal length = A & B
As you can see, A, belongs to both groups. In Set Theory, this is
called an INTERSECTION.
In this lesson we will be looking at intersections and unions, as
described in Set Theory.

17. SUMMARY
● Intersection and union are both Operations of Sets.
● Intersection is a list of all the elements that are in both stated sets.
● The symbol for Intersection is ∩
● Union is a list of all the elements that are in either set.
● When listing elements of a Union, do not repeat elements that are present in both sets
● The symbol for Union ∪
