in Italy but spread to
Europe.
ARCHITECTURE
- Architects used the classical
elements (arches, columns).
- Architects designed
buildings in the Herrerian
style, named after Juan de
Herrera.
- Austere style with little
decoration.

LITERATURE
- There were some exceptional writers like Saint Teresa and
Saint Juan de la Cruz.
- Both wrote about mystical and spiritual topics.

- Garcilaso de la Vega wrote poetry.
PAINTING AND SCULPTURE

It was inspired by the Greek and Roman cultures.
Celebrated the individual.
Renaissance art was driven by the new notion of "Humanism”.
Artist loved details and realism.

The Artistic Movements of the Renaissance and Golden Age in Spain

  • 2. There were 2 important artistic movement during this period…
  • 3. - The word Renaissance means rebirth. - Beginning in the 1400s. - The Renaissance began in Italy but spread to Europe.
  • 4. ARCHITECTURE - Architects used the classical elements (arches, columns). - Architects designed buildings in the Herrerian style, named after Juan de Herrera. - Austere style with little decoration. The Monastery of El Escorial LITERATURE - There were some exceptional writers like Saint Teresa and Saint Juan de la Cruz. - Both wrote about mystical and spiritual topics. - Garcilaso de la Vega wrote poetry.
  • 5. PAINTING AND SCULPTURE - It was inspired by the Greek and Roman cultures. Celebrated the individual. Renaissance art was driven by the new notion of "Humanism”. Artist loved details and realism. Human bodies were painted with good proportions.
