1. RENAISSANCE
Renaissance is called as rebirth of learning mainly of ancient greece and rome. The renaissance
introduces the concept of intellectuallity in art. The most famous is Leonardo da Vinci. Art,
architecture and science were closely connected during the Renaissance peroid.
MANNERISM
Mannerism is also called as late renaissance. The genius of this era is michelangelo. It is like the
counter narrative or reaction of renaissance. Baroques style replace it.
COMPARISION
Early renaissance begens from milan high from rome and mannerism from florence.
Renaissance had high regards to classical time’s standards,it was a form of art tries to show
idealized world. Whereas, mannerism was extremely anticlassist.
Renaissance removed emotion detailes in art whereas mannerism is more playfull and emotional.
Renaissance art is more stable than mannersim. Both has nudes figures but mannersism complex
and artificial position or body posture is just opposite to renaissance stability.
Renaissance art was categorized through realism and naturalism. Mannerism is less logical and
unnatural.

2. The way renaissance follow perspective,depth and maturity is absent in mannerism.it is of more
intense,dramatic,unnatural color and flatten space.[1]

Renaissance is the rebrith of humanism has satisfactory and firm human figures unlike
mannerism’s long limbs and short heads.[1]
The artists of High Renaissance developed a system of scientifically defined proportion and
structure based on the harmony of the parts. Whereas Manerism sculptures had oddly proportional
form.
The establishing attitude of High Renaissance painting was usually a geometric shape. Mannerism
beleivies in illusions.
We can say that if renaissance is classism then mannerism is expressionism.

We can see the difference of narrative ,composition,and light in both the style. Renaissance has
prespective ,unity, focal point and natural light. Mannerism has no prespective , no focal point,
more dramatic and playful lighting.

4. In both the picture we can see clear difference of both era. Renaissance has nature spce or
background ,accurate body posture and nature color. And are stable on ground. Mannerism has
abnormal body posture ,unnatural color and flat spce or background. All are over one another.

5. Parmigianino Madonna
In the Raphael painting both the Madonna and Child appear to be in an accepted and idealised
mother and child story. There is a very normal relations between the two subjects. In the
Parmigianino there contact between mother and child is very unnatural, it is almost abnormal with
very little details between the subjects. Like background is so unnatutal,proportion and figure is
bumpy and uncomfortable.

6. Saint Peters Basillica has both renaissance and mannerism role.The Renaissance style places
highlighting on symmetry, proportion, geometry and the regularity of parts, and is highly
influenced by the many examples of the architecture of Roman architecture. Mannerism emphasis
on stylishness in design applied to a building just like painting, showed extensive knowledge of
Roman architectural style but not necessary united entirely.

The renaissance sculpture is stable, proportional and shows ideal human figure whereas mannerism
has drama,story to tell and uneven and uncomfortable body posture.
In my view, mannerism is more apealing as compared to renaissance as it belief in experiment and
exploration whereas renaissance is stiff to classicism idea. Proportion idea is not so good as every
body not have perfect proportion in reality like shown in renaissance ,mannerism on contrary has

7. variety. I love that every painting is from artist’s point of view rather being considerate about
reality and has similar concept.
