Q3. What kind of media
institution might distribute your
media product and why?
What locations and outlets are suited to my target audience
(media access, consumerism, locations)
Poptastic is music magazine that is orientated around the pop
genre and popular culture. The places where the magazine will
be sold would be public locations such as: supermarkets, post
offices, WH Smith, Superdrug and online. This is because the
target audience of mainstream magazines live in densely
populated regions like cities rather the rural towns rather target
audience for the magazine falls mainly into the E socio-economic
category which includes the unemployed and students. This
means that the affordable price of £2.99 for the monthly edition
will be affordable for the youngest consumers as magazines
such as Shout charges the same price. The data that I gathered
from my questionnaire showed me that consumers were not
willing to pay above £5 or less for a magazine so the cheaper
price caters to the consumers needs.
Digital platforms will also be used to distribute the product
because of the fact that the target audience is been the ages of
11-20 so they are more tech-savvy than the senior demographics
because of their dependence and access to cheap social media
services. This will help to expand the magazine brand name.
After conducting research on various magazine
publishing companies I have narrowed down my findings
to a single company - Egmont Publishing. Egmont
produces over 20 monthly magazines aimed at children
and teenagers. Egmont publishing is one the many
divisions under Egmont Group which has branched out
into over 30 countries. Egmont publishing has expertise
in creating products and marketing them to the teenage
consumers. They publish magazines such as We Love
Pop, Go Girl and Star wars Adventures so because my
publication has a similar age demographic as ‘We Love
Pop’ Egmont would be one of the best companies to
publish my finished magazine. Additionally, Egmont has
always been a leader in the use of paper from
sustainable sources therefore because of the high
ethical standards of the company it is even more
rewarding knowing that the company has been actively
trying to reduce it’s impact on the environment.
Furthermore because of Egmont Group’s international
success it is likely that the institution will increase sales
for Poptastic thus pushing the magazine towards the
position as market leader.
