1. Question 7
evaluation
Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you think you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
2. Evaluatethesuccessofmypreliminarytaskbasedonespecifictechnicalrequirements?
Our task was to complete a preliminary task which provides:
• A photograph of a student in a medium close up
• Appropriate text
• The masthead being red
I followed these instructions which is shown on the complete front
cover, my masthead is very eye catching and clean due to it being
red which is alerting to the eye and audience.
With the medium close up I had my model smile which perceives
my model to be soft, warming and friendly towards the audience.
I followed the rule of thirds by placing her in the left centre of the
cover, because this allows sophistication towards my magazine.
I used appropriate text by using appropriate text due to my
magazine being for school, and targeted to parents
I also did place many technical convections that are need for a
magazine, such as placing the information into columns and
following the same colour scheme as the front cover.
For the contents page I found it difficult, placing the technical
research into the programme. Which Is why I found using
Photoshop challenging.
3. Evaluatethe use mise-en-scenein the
preliminarytaskand my improvements
For the mise-en-scene, I placed my model in uniform because it’s conventional
towards a school magazine, because it places model as being sophisticated due to
her suited uniform. The setting was behind a wooden door, this gives an appeal to
the audience that Ratcliffe college is an old school, this also adds to its
sophistication, allowing a positive setting due to its background.
My model is only wearing a small amount of makeup, but not to grab male
attention, but because she is 17 or a an older college student it places the concept
that she wants to look her best at school.
I could improved more on the font cover and contents page by adding more
appealing fonts and edits such as using drop shadows and using more appealing
colours, to appeal an attract my audience more. In my opinion I feel like i wasn’t
prepared enough when creating my preliminary task. Because I needed more
practise when using Photoshop.
I also could of improved the masthead due to the instructions stating that it must
be red, yet I felt that the colour red didn’t blend well with the background. Due to
the background being dark, therefor the masthead was difficult to see.
I also could of improved the appearance of my contents page, such as adding more
images to appeal to the audience more and adding more appealing edits and fonts.
4. Were did you use the same skills in the
preliminary as you did in your main task
In the preliminary I chose my colours carefully, such as the blues and
reds because I thought these were the best colours for the task.
Because the red is eye catching and appealing to the audience due to
them being bright and them blending well with the backgrounds. The
dark blue and white provide sophistication towards my school
magazine.
Therefore in my main task I thought of the colour scheme in depth to
attract my niche older rnb target audience, which is why used colours
such as reds and whites, because they are classified as sophisticated
colours.
My technical skills:
When making the new preliminary task, I felt more confident when
using the tools on photo shop and being more adventurous when
editing. I felt more confident when using the blending tools such as
the drop shadows, which I used multiple times on the front cover and
contents page
6. What I improved on my new
preliminary task
• On the new preliminary I improved the
appearance due to using a wider range of
blending options when using photo shop
such as the drop shadows.
• I also changed the colour scheme, I used
blue and white because I felt like these
were more appropriate for my school
magazine proving sophistication, therefor
appealing more to the audience.
• I also changed the masthead from being
red to blue, because this fitted in with the
new colour scheme. I also followed this
colour scheme on the contents page
because i wanted everything to fit In and
look presentable and clear.
