5. What is CPEC ?
o CPEC is an abbreviation of China Pakistan
Economic Corridor.
o CPEC is an ongoing development mega projects
whose aim is to connect Gwadar port of Pakistan
to china northwest region of Xinjiang, via a
network of highways, railways and pipeline.
6. Introduction to CPEC:
o CPEC is a collection of infrastructure projects currently
under construction throughout Pakistan.
o The economic corridor is Central to China-Pakistan
relations and will run about 2700km from Gwadar to
Kasghar.
o China Pakistan Economic corridor and its connectivity with
central Asia ,Middle East, Africa will help to shape entire
region.
7. Background of projects:
o The project was proposed by Chinese premier Li keqiang
during his visit to Pakistan in May 2013.
o The Pak-China Economic corridor was inaugurated in
Islamabad on 27 August 2013.
o The vision for economic corridor was stretches far back as
Musharaf era.

On 20th April 2015, Pakistan and China signed an
agreement to commence work on the $46 billion on 51
projects with approximately $28 billion in immediate
projects and the rest allocated for projects in the gas or oil
pipeline.

o Strategic alliance was formed in 1972 and economic
cooperation began in 1979.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, met the
Chinese Premier, Li Keqiang, after which various
agreements were signed to expand the mutual
cooperation between the two countries. As much as
15 agreements were signed in areas of agriculture,
industry, technical training, forestry, earth sciences
and transfer of electronics. The proposed Special
Economic Zones (SEZs) under the China-Pakistan
Economic Corridor (CPEC) will also be given a boost.
Pakistan is expected to receive a USD 6 billion
package from China to help aid its ailing economy.
