2. Introduction
CPEC is the abbreviation of china Pakistan
economic corridor.
CPEC is an ongoing development mega
projects whose aim is to connect the Gwadar
port of Pakistan to China’s northwestern
region of Xinjiang, via a network of
highways, railways and pipelines.
CPEC is a collection of infrastructure
projects currently under construction
throughout Pakistan.
3. Continue….
The economic corridor is considered
central to China–Pakistan relations and will
run about 2700 km from Gwadar to
Kashghar.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and its
connectivity with Central Asia, Middle
East and Africa will help to shape entire
region.
Overall construction costs are estimated
around $46 billion, with the entire project
expected to be completed in several years.
4. Brief history
Li Keqiang during his visit to Pakistan in May
2013, the CPEC will act as a bridge for the new
Maritime Silk Route that imagines linking 3
billion people in Asia, Africa and Europe
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the
corridor would transform Pakistan into a
regional hub and give China a shorter and
cheaper route for trade with much of Asia, the
Middle East and Africa.
The layout of the economic corridor has taken
various regions' interests into consideration and
will benefit a wide-ranging public, said Xi.
5. Benefits
CPEC will not only benefit China and
Pakistan but will have positive impact on
Iran, Afghanistan, India, Central Asian
Republic, and the region.
$46 billion promised by China
is three times the total FDI Pakistan got in
the last period.
So now Pakistan has feasibility through
CPEC as its FDI was on a decline. Now it
has gained momentum by nearly 17% of
their GDP.
6. Continue….
The project is estimated to directly
create some 700,000 jobs up to 2030,
and speed up GDP growth significantly.
Pakistan is facing acute energy
problems. The country’s overall
capacity of power generation
is 23,538 MW, leaving a shortfall of
nearly 40,000 to 60,000 MW. If things
go as planned, by 2017 these projects
would add 10,400 MW to the national
grid.
7. Continue….
Chinese banks are willing to finance
proposed infrastructure projects at an interest
rate of 1.6%.
The CPEC deal also includes $ 5.9 billion for
road projects and $ 3.7 billion for railway
projects, all to be developed by 2017.
