4. INTRODUCTION
• First proposed by Chinese PM Li-Keqiang & Pakistani PM
Nawaz Sharif in 2013.
• On 20 April 2015, Pak & China signed an agreement to
commence work on CPEC.
• It connects China's Xinjiang region with Pakistan's Gilgit–
Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions.
• China Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of projects.
• Link the Pakistani city of Gwadar Port in southwestern
to China’s northwestern region.

6. HISTORY OF PAK- CHINA RELATIONS
• Pakistan–China relations began in 1950 .
• Strategic alliance was formed in 1972 and economic co-
operation began in 1979.
• China has invested $20 billion in various projects.
• China has become Pakistan’s largest supplier of arms and its
third-largest trading partner.
• Both countries have an ongoing free trade agreement.

• There are three routes of CPEC:

• Eastern Route
• Western Route

• Gawadar Port to Kasghar through Pakistan Cities Gawadar, Turbat,
Khuzdar, RajanPur, DG Khan, Bannu, Peshawar, Kohat and Hasanabdal .

• Gawadar Port to Kasghar through Pakistan Cities Gawadar, Turbat,
Khuzdar, RajanPur, DG Khan, Faisalabad, Pindi Bhattian,Rawalpindi and
Hasanabdal.

• Gwadar - gateway for Central Asia.
• Central Asia can be connected to CPEC via Tirmiz (southern city
of Uzbekistan).
• CPEC can connect both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan’s liquid
cargo through pipelines & Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan’s dry cargo
via road.
• Increase energy market share in Western China and India.
19. CHALLENGES
• Threats from TTP and other terrorism states.
• America is against CPEC.
• Destabilization of Afghanistan.
