2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting.
Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece β consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to
realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
3. Mood board (or other idea development work):
These images are all inspirational towards my
project as the general colour scheme is what I
want to achieve in my project as the pastel
colours are key conventions of this type of zine,
and I think it goes well with the nature of the
genre and compliments it well. The informal and
hand written vibe of these zines is something I
want portray through my product; some of these
fanzines have more of a professional look to them
but I want to achieve a more homemade look as I
think it will cater for younger people more.
4. Content:
My fanzine will consist of:
o 3 interviews with 3 different people who have been
working in mental health for a combined 50+ years with
one being interviewed on mental health in the 90s/00s,
one being interviewed about the 2010s and the other
being interviewed about the current day. Each interview
will be across a double page with them either having
information on one side and then the interview on the
other, or depending on the size and quality of the
interview I might do it across both pages.
o Illustrations will be across double pages and will be
filtered in between the interviews and information pages
to break up the writing.
o Pages with information about mental health and help
lines will be at the start and end of the zine to help
educate people on the topic and how/where to get help.
5. Planning: Pagination
o Front cover β masthead βOur Mindsβ at the top middle with an illustration under it which fills the majority of the front page, and with
the author name under it. The background with be a pastel blue or purple. The illustration will have a message in the actual
illustration or under it.
o Pg.1 & 2 β Contents page with page numbers and brief information about the pages and it will look handwritten and informal so it is
an informative but not sophisticated.
o Pg.3 & 4 β Article on mental health about the basic understanding of it, how to cope with it, help lines, expert help etc.
o Pg. 5 β Information on how mental health in the 90s/00s was portrayed by the public and the media.
o Pg.6 β Interview with mental health practitioner of 37 years Joanne Ward, it will be more informal than a regular interview for a
magazine, but still formal enough to understand the severity of the topic. The interview will be about mental health in the 90s/00s
and how her experience was working through it in the early part of her career.
o Pg.7 & 8 β Illustration with a message about mental health on both pages to break up the information of each decade.
o Pg. 9 β Information on how mental health in the 2010s was portrayed by the public and the media, and how it has developed over
the years.
o Pg.10 β Interview with a former managing director of a mental health service for 10+ years Dale Ward. The interview will be about
his experience working in mental health, why he wanted too and about the media affecting mental health.
o Pg. 11 β Information on how mental health in the current day is portrayed by the public and the media, and how it will develop as
the years go on.
o Pg. 12 β Interview with mental health worker of 5+ years Jake Mawer. The interview will be about his experience working currently in
the mental health industry, how he thinks it will develop in the future and how he would go about improving it.
o Pg. 13 β Illustration page
o Pg. 14 β Help line page on the inside of the back cover to support people wanting help to deal with their own mental health or try
and get support for someone else.
o Back cover β a wrap around of the front cover so both the front and back cover link up together.
