The document contains an evaluation by a student of their research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, and audience appeal for a music video production project. It also includes feedback from three peers. The student felt their research was detailed but focused too narrowly on one genre. Their planning was moderately detailed but they wish they had a more developed backup plan. They struggled with time management and had to reuse some footage but completed the video on time. Technically, the camera quality was lower but similar shots and angles were used as in another example video. Aesthetically, filters were used to achieve an "old" look appropriate for the indie genre. The student believes they successfully appealed to their target audience. The peer feedback was
3. RESEARCH
I think the strengths of my research was most of it was
detailed and therefore enabled me to get a good idea of
the genre I was exploring and it helped me understand
what appealed to that type of audience. It also allowed
me to collect a range of ideas for my music video.
In terms of weaknesses for my research I stuck to one
genre which closed off certain opportunities that I could
of explored if I had reached out to other genres. To
improve I would of branched out in terms of genre. The
effect that this would have would be that I would have
had a better idea of what genre my video belonged in
and therefore would have been more appealing for the
audience.
4. PLANNING
I think my planning was moderately detailed and clear.
This would of therefore been useful if I was able to go
through with the idea I initially had. However I did have
contingency plan which in certain cases I did follow such
as using other people as features as some were
unavailable at times also in terms of particular locations
being unavailable I then needed to find another place
which was also written in my contingency plan.
Id say the weaknesses of my planning were based around
my contingency planning in terms of what song and what
ideas I have in case the first one fell through which it
did. To improve I would have more detailed and planned
out contingency plan including a backup song and
backup idea. In the case that I did do that it would of
allowed me more time to plan out a more narrative
inclined product.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I think overall with the time I had I managed well
considering my first plans fell through. However I do
think that if I had managed the time a little bit better the
outcome of the video would have been a lot better. If I
had more time I would of added a narrative aspect to the
video which was a big part of my first idea. Despite my
video not having a storyline to it , I do believe it still fits
in nicely with the genre that I chose as they don’t tend to
have much of a storyline.
Throught the editing process I did reuse some of the
footage I had due to the fact I didn't’t get everything
filmed on time however I don’t think it is obvious that
certain clips have been reused but if it had managed my
time better this would have not been the case. Despite
the lack of time management, I was able to complete the
music video on time including the editing.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
I think that in certain ways both of these
videos have a similar feel to them in
terms of camera. The camera I used was
a lot lower quality and that is evident
when compared to the mormor video
however I think the overall look of each
videos are very similar by the angles and
shots used. Examples of close ups and
longs shots are evident in both videos.
However id say there is a bigger range of
angles and shots used in the mormor
video.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
I think in technical terms my video
is a lot less technical but looks as if
it is. My video has a certain filter on
top which gives it a old and
amateur feel to it. The mormor
video also displays this feature
however in terms of quality footage
it looks a lot more professional and
seems as if the aim was to make
the video look rustic whereas my
video looks as if it wasn’t as
intended.
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
There is a pinky
type tint to the
video I did this to
make the video to
look as if it was
made when the sun
was setting. This
also made sure
that all my clips
looked as if they
were all filmed at
the same time on
the same time. I
think it also fits in
really well with
aesthetic of an
indie music video.
There is also
a grain effect
on the video
which makes
the video
seem old. I
think this fits
the aesthetic
of the genre
however if
someone
wasn’t aware
of the indie
genre they
would be
confused as
to why the
I heightened the saturation
throughout the video which
enhanced the colours and made
them more bold. This I think was
a good asset to my video as the
colour are very visually pleasing
The appearance
looks as if its been
filmed on a vhs
camera and is a
low definition
quality and has
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
I think that I have appealed to my target audience this is because of
the way it looks the events that occur and the angles and shots that
are used. The outfits that are worn by the people that feature in the
video are the stereotypical outfits that the people of the indie genre
would wear. I think the mid shots of the people involved where their
outfits are on show will specifically appeal to the audience as they
could give the audience outfit ideas. Also the settings I used would
also appeal to the audience as they most likely go to those types of
places. The aesthetic the people of the indie genre have is out there
and not really the typical kind of style teenagers in 2020 would be
prone to wearing and it’s a unique style that would definitely appeal
to my audience and this is very much illustrated thought my music
video. I think also they way the people are presented in my music
video is also very similar to how the audience may view themselves
meaning it would certainly appeal to the audience. The video is very
chilled and has an open ended meaning and therefore it is up to the
viewer to interpret the video which is very common in indie music
