PREHISTORY
The first humans appeared on the Earth 2.5 million years ago. We divide
Prehistory into three stages:
• Palaeolithic Age
• Neolithic Age
• Metal Age
The invention of writing marks the beginning of Ancient History.
ANCIENT HISTORY
In the 1st
millennium BCE, the people of the Iberian Peninsula were
farmers who lived in walled villages and Knew how to work metal. During
this time, colonisers arrived on the Peninsula and started to mix with
indigenous people. This led to the formation of two people: the Celts and
the Iberians.
THE ROMAN EMPIRE
The Romans were from Rome. The Romans had a very powerful army that
conquered lands around the Mediterranean, and they began the conquest
of the Iberian Peninsula. They called the territory Hispania and divided
it into provinces. They founded cities and built new roads and numerous
cities. Hispania was part of the Roman Empire for over 600 years. The
Hispanics, like the rest of the Empire, adopted the Roman language,
religion, culture and customs. This process is called Romanisation.
