• They were interested in trading.

ROMANS
• Roman empire started in year 27 BC and finished in
year 426 AC.
• They competed with Carthaginians for trading
control in the Mediterranean Sea, causing the
Punic Wars.
• In the second Punic Wars, Romans started having
the control of most of the Iberian Peninsula.
26. ROMANISATION
• It is the name to the adaptation to the roman way of
life. People of the Peninsula adopted Roman language:
Latin.
• They founded new cities: Tarragona, Mérida and Itálica.
• They built roads, bridges and aqueducts.
• They divided the Peninsula into provinces.
• They built amphitheatres, circuses and thermal baths.
27. ROMAN SOCIETY
• Society was organised into free people and
slaves.
• Free people: PATRICIANS (rich people) and
PLEBEIANS (por people).
• Slaves had no rights.
28. ROMAN ART
• They were great builders. They built many
buildings: temples, basilicas, amphitheatres,
circuses, theatres and termal baths.
• They made mosaics on the floors with tiny
pieces called “tesseras”.
