Working Title: Next Level
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Product’s Purpose: The products purpose is mainly to entertain. However I think my product
could be used to educate because in the magazine I will review old and new games along with
consoles. There will be top 10 lists and debates. So there is plenty of things to educate people on
even the smallest level.
The entertainment comes in because people that buy this magazine have bought it to be a part of
this and get involved. The whole point of a gaming magazine is to lean about games. So for the
reasons its educational is the reason it’s entertaining.
What is the product’s purpose (entertain/educate etc.) and how will you achieve this?
Genre: The genre of my magazine is a media magazine focus on gaming
What sort of product is it
Content: The magazine is focused on gaming. The magazine will include such things as top 10
lists that will count down such things as “best games of 2015”, “best games for the ps2”, ect. There
will also be a section where readers will be able to wright in and comet for them self’s and give
their opinion on the topics.
Debates a section where I will give both sides to a topic. For example “pc vs console” I will give
both sides of the argument and at the end I’ll leave it up to the reader to vote, either by writing in or
on a Facebook page/website. This will give people a chance to see why some people may like one
thing over another and then chip in with their opinions at the end. Then in the following issue I’ll
feature the best arguments for one over the other.
Reviews of old and new games and consoles, This is a section where I will give my opinions and
share my experiences with a specific product. I will tell people whether or not I like the product, I
will give my opinion and tell people whether or not I think it’s worth buying.
A price list of new games coming out, Just a basic list of the new triple A games out this month. A
list of prices and a short description of the game, no opinions or review, just a description of the
game as the developers describe it.
Readers’ comments and mail. As described before in the when talking about the debates section,
readers will be able to write in their opinions, and possibly correct me on a few things. All the
comments will be featured in the following issue. Readers will also be able to wright in just
generally and maybe give their opinion on a random old game or console, or whatever they want.
They will be able to wright in through the Facebook page, the P.O Box and the Gmail email
address. So there is no reason why they can’t write in.
A list of new Indy games. This will be a short list (top 10) top up and coming Indy games, no
specific criteria that allows games on this list, just Indy games that are cool and are available for
people to easily buy.
What is your product about? Discuss what you would put in it (be specific). Does it have a story? If
so, discuss it here
Audience: Mostly I am targeting males aged between 10-29. I feel like mostly males are
interested in this type of thing, however I will not limit myself by just focusing on this specific
demographic.
I think that I will aim mostly at students and older teens. I think that even though a lot of people
play games, not everyone will buy the magazines because it’s seen as “unprofessional” so I doubt
that many business people will buy it. However they will possibly buy it for their kids. So will have
to appeal to children.
The psychographics I am aiming to target are.
• Belongers: Want to belong to a group they are also brand loyal. I feel like if I can draw

their attention to my magazine, I’ll have a loyal customer.
• Achievers: Even though they are usually a more serious business type, I feel like they may
play games to relive some stress, etc. Therefore they may have an interest in videogame
magazines. So even though they may not be the most loyal customer they may have
people buy it for them on Christmas or a birthday.
• Type B: I feel like this is the stereotypical view of the typical gamer. They are quite likely
to have an interest in video games, and video game magazines. So I feel like they are a
demographic I should be targeting strongly.
• Balanced: These group of people respond to success. So I feel like if my magazine can
include a walk through, or a trophy/ achievement guide, than that will give them what their
looking for.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc.
Why would your project appeal to this person?
Legal & Ethical Considerations: For the most part there will not be any offensive material in the
magazine. The only thing that would be considered offensive is the mature themed games
featured. For reviews and such.
I wouldn’t personally restrict people of a younger age because magazines of this type aren’t
usually age restricted. I feel that it’s mostly up to their parents to decide whether or not to buy it for
them.
There is no reason for anyone to be offended by the magazine spastically, however depending on
the games featured in the magazine may be controversial and may not sent the best message to
readers. I do feel like if I review the games in a professional and from a journalistic point of view I
don’t believe there is any reason for any group, religions or ethnicities to be offended.
I will use characters, names and logos in my magazine. Mainly because that’s what the audience
of the game will recognise and that’s how I will draw them to my magazine. However, I will ask to
use logos and names so I won’t be sued for copyright. I will rotter scope some images to create my
own, and edit already existing promotional material and art work for the games/ console. When
showing in game material I will edit that to fit in with my magazines style. I will also ask permeation
before using.
I think that my product will follow the basic guide lines of what a gaming magazine is and what the
consumers expect from such a product. I do feel however that I have enough original content and
ideas to separate me from the competition. For example, readers’ comments have been featured
in many magazines in the past. But with my magazine I will integrate social media. I will use twitter
and Facebook to easily connect and communicate with the readers. In the future there are
possibilities for a mobile app to be incorporated into the magazine.
With the social media integration not only will it be easy for me to communicate with the readers.
The readers can communicate with each other. Talking and debating on this month’s topics. This
will create a sense of community because it gives everyone a voice.
Think about any offensive material you will include?
Will you restrict younger people using/accessing it?
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities?
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone?
Are you using characters/names/logos of existing products/IPs?
Will you product be sufficiently different from existing products to not get sued for copyright
infringement?
