2. INITIAL REACTION
For my final major project I have decided to design a Leeds United Fanzine.
To do a Magazine for the final major project would be very beneficial for the course and also a
different experience from anything I would usually do.
A fanzine follows my interests, and is related to everything I am fascinated by. For this reason, I
will enjoy the process and be satisfied by the end product, I feel I have an advantage on perusing
a project like this as I know more than the average person about this topic, which just inspires me
to get the finished product.
The reason I have decided to do a Leeds United related Fanzine is due to the time which football
consumes in my life, which is a great amount, and my passion for the sport is incomparable,
therefore doing a magazine about something I love for my FMP, will allow me to show my skills
and express myself in something that grabs my attention.
So my first impression of how I imagine my fanzine to turn out will be an interactive booklet, full
of fun, and creative designs, which is very appetizing and aesthetically pleasing to the normal
persons eye, even if your not so interested in the topic, I aim to satisfy those who aren’t so
interested by the audience appreciating the layout/design.
Leeds United Fans will obviously be the target audience, however with general football fan
debates, and knowledge of the major leagues, Premier League fans and more will be attracted to
the articles, this helps spread my audience and target a wider field of potential readers.
3. I will attempt to target the biggest audience possible when marketing, which means I will be able to
have to most accurate feedback when the fanzine is completed based on a wider variety of reviews,
allowing me to work out what are the stronger factors of the fanzine, and the part which aren’t so
good, and need improving.
This will help me satisfy the audience with every issue with is launched, with an updated and better-
quality version of the fanzine.
I plan to market the fanzine in several innovative ways, allowing me to portray my Leeds United
encyclopedia, and share my views and opinions with fans.
The goal would be to create a virtual, and interactive product which potential audience can trial, this
will allow them to read the fanzine in a rather creative format, with the accessibility of scrolling the
the fanzine taking part in the games, sharing their own opinions through the interactive forum,
download designs, which can be used as screensavers, which is the equivalent of the physical copy,
which includes a poster, of a graphic design.
A marketing method I will look to use is a potential advertisement, using cool editing and unique
merchandise enticing the audience to click, meaning they will have a look at what the brand is
offering.
If all goes to plan, I will post 10 physical copies to the houses of the correct audience in my area,
hoping for a review, and this will give me a good representation of who would essentially
“subscribe” to the monthly fanzine, and how committed the audience are to their interests.
7. MOOD BOARD ANALYSIS
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• The images I have collected have a bright and engaging, almost relaxing tone, which
describes the mood of the fanzine, similar to how the audience should feel when
listening.
• The colours used represent the club, and engage all fans, as they are ensured that the
product lays within their interest.
• The designs and materials used on the mood board represent how the end product
will relate to, cartoon effect of some designs and graphic art throughout which
portrays the clean and slick style I’m going for, hopefully this reflects on the product
and aesthetically pleases the targeted audience.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• It will be a guide to follow when designing and editing for colour schemes etc. and
how the audience will view the podcast, through intros and outros, and on screen
questions.
• A guide to follow allows me to stay on track and continue a reoccurring theme to
keep to layout relevant and keep readers engaged.
