My Brief
 You have been commissioned by the
Northern Echo to produce a new
magazine or newspaper product. Your
product could be in any style or genre
but it must be self financed through
sales or advertising. You must also
produce your magazine for a specified
audience segment within the 16 to 25
age group
MINDLESS
I have chosen this name for my
magazine, the definition of mindless is
someone who is careless, oblivious and
unreasonable (these are just key words)
from this definition I think it goes well
with my theme of article. It is relevant
because people are mindless and
oblivious of benefits reading can give
you.
My Client
The Northern Echo
I need to create a magazine for the northern
echo that:
Is funded through the use of advertisement
Target:
Ages: 16-20
Socioeconomic: B,C1,C2
Carry out research in ordered to understand
your audience
Things to consider
My Client
Identify my target audience
Carry out extensive research
Identify a gap in the market
Create stories that will relate to my target
audience
Create a magazine that will not give my
financial difficulties
16-20

Secondary audience
 I will also have to appeal to my secondary audience.
 The colour scheme is going to have to appeal to outside
audience, so some neutral colours.
 Imagery that appeal to both young females, it could be
a window to the future self and also appeal to the male
audience
Things to consider
The secondary audience for my magazine will include
Northern Echo readers, parents and siblings
In order to avoid offense and ensure the secondary
audience are happy there will be…
No nudity
No inappropriate content
Things to consider
The PCC is a body who deals with complaints
from members of the public about the content
of magazines and newspapers. There are 16
codes that must be followed by magazines
and newspapers. The PCC look into complaints
that have been made by individuals who
believe that the code has been breached.
I need to think of these things as I am making
my own magazine
Things to consider
I have to make sure that I have full consent from
everyone that I, interview, photograph and take
information from. Under 18 ask parents
I will have to make sure that I do not harass anyone,
that if they do not want to do anything I ask, move on
I will have to be caring when talking about sensitive
topics: why people read books
I will make sure that I have not gone against any
copyright laws and that everything I write is accurate

Genre research
Genre research…
•Young model
•Active layout
•Variation of fonts
•Bold fonts
•Feminine colour's
•Colour's that could
appeal to both
genders
•High eye line
How it affected
my design
•The layout(busy)
•Fonts
•Coloring,
(pink blue gold)
•Model
(window to future self)
I looked at two type of
magazine’s women
lifestyle and a literature I
want to combine the two.
It is very active
There is a range of
different colours.
There is a lot to
the layout.
It looks formal,
Long/short
paragraph.
What I will include
From looking at front covers and Dps i am going to include
The layout plan:
Long paragraphs
Different colours
Young models
Bold fonts
Break out boxes
Audience research
My audience likes: since I am mostly aiming my magazine at
the niche market of people that read, the people that mostly
read it will like.
Sites like wattapd
Kindle store
Smashwords
I researched these website and found they are very popular for
younger people. This has helped me because I can incorporate these
websites into my magazine and talk about them.
Sites where people can read
books that people have written
them selves. Also write there own
stories.
Audience appeal
Colours: has to appeal to
that of women
So I will have some pink an
purples
Sites that people read on
black and orange
Imagery:
I will have to have images
that my audience can relate
to.
Young female people
Books
Book websites.
Articles: I will make the articles
relatable to.
Age, genre of books and the most
books people of that age read
Gender- so romance books, fantasy
Fonts:
Colours:
MY USP
What is going to be different about my
magazine is that it will attracted small niche
groups that love to read, at the same time it will
have aspects of women's lifestyle magazine I
will make sure that my adds relate to women’s
aspects along with my theme. It is going to talk
about emotions and wellbeing.
My magazine
● My magazine will be focused on niche groups.
● My magazine is based around literature.
● It will talk about the latest books.
● The importance of books
My idea
Name: Mindless
Genre of the magazine: women’s lifestyle
Gap in the market: this fits in the women’s lifestyle
magazine genre, but it has it’s own twist, there are
articles that are informative about the world of
literature and books. For example: why is reading
good for you.
Downfall: Although there is a gap in the market for
this, my idea is not only for women. Men could
possible want to read about these things but it is n a
women’s lifestyle magazine.
My aims
My aims is for people to get more interested
in reading.
I want all readers to be able to relate primary
focus and secondary
Discuss topics that are informative but at the
same time they wont feel bored, something
they can relate to.
I want to break away from stereotypes of
women

page spreads and create two version of this
double page spread. I then carried out
research to gain audience feedback.
Mock up 1
