1. I asked this question so that I could get a general idea of how people ranked my magazine in their own opinions. I was pleased that people thought my magazine was at the high end of the scale, though I was very surprised to find that people had given me full marks, as even I knew there could be room for improvement. Maybe this was their ideal magazine? Or maybe they were being nice, either way I am happy with the results of this question.
2. This question was important because I can see how viewers knew who the target audience is. The majority saw the magazine to be for teenagers which is who I was aiming the magazine for and a couple of people voted for young adults. The magazine can be for young adults as the magazine is quite mature and informative and young adults may actually find the magazine a good read because it has a broad taste in music.
3. The only areas which were voted for in this question was: Photography, Layout and Design. The majority voted that the photography was the best feature on my magazine, which did please me because I liked the images I had taken. I was also content with the Design category being the second highest choice as I especially liked the double page spread, with the large image and textures underneath the writing. The question also includes a kind of soft criticism in a way because it shows what I can improve to make more interesting; such as the Typeface. I don’t really know why I included ‘Price’ In the question, because although its important, its not really that interesting.
4. I thought this was a good question to ask because it shows honestly if people would buy my magazine. The majority of people said Yes they would buy it with another number of people who said Maybe. Some people also said No, this doesn’t offend me at all because people may not be into the music/categories included, or people just didn’t like the magazine at all, but its still a good input because I can get the general feeling of my magazine from the audiences point of view.
5. I thought this question was useful to include because this also would affect the magazines selling numbers and popularity. If I sold my magazine at £5+ not many people would buy it because it would be too dear, and the target audience are mainly teenagers and they don’t have much disposable cash, even if they have a job as they probably would buy other things they need or want more, so a cheap magazine would sell more, whilst not burning a hole in the pocket of the buyer.
6. This is a very important and useful question to ask, because as the surveyors were mainly teenagers, it is their opinions and what they would like to see more of and it is a pointer in the direction to improvement and a better magazine. The majority of people would have the Typeface changed: I think I was quite vague when I asked this Question though as ‘Typeface’ could mean many different areas on my magazine. For Example; I used a different typeface on each band, as the Masthead, and Tagline and Feature font were all different, so this could have been to much, hard to read or just annoying, I think it was maybe the contents page, because as I look back I think it’s too crazy and just looks mushy and confusing, so I would definitely improve that.
7. Many people thought my magazine was a close competitor to Kerrang! Magazine and Q Magazine. I thought this was actually rather a good response because I did want my Magazine to be a close competitor to Q, and it would be close to Kerrang! Because it Would feature a lot of the musicians they include; though it would mainly be some of the Graphics and art would be different to my magazine. I would have preferred to be a close competitor to NME magazine, but no one voted for that; maybe because they don’t read It, so they don’t really know much about it or, they just didn’t think my magazine was a Close competitor.
8. The response for this question was pretty spot on to what I intended for my magazine, I think It would definitely be sold in Newsagents and be a good look out at music venues, as it is a music magazine so it could be used to promote brands, musicians, signed or unsigned. So it could be used to boost knowledge and popularity in towns and cities, and then at music venues.
9. I was pleased to find that the highest voted for categories, as Indie is what people would Think more of when they see the, magazine. I saw that Various was equally voted to Indie – which make them tie most voted for – which is great because as there is a lot of Small musicians and unsigned bands they may not fit into one category – they could be Subgenres – or completely different to what one might expect.
10. Most people thought that my magazine has a distinct house style, which I was, again, pleased about, as my magazines diversity probably helped with this outcome. Meanwhile, a few people said maybe, this might be because they weren’t sure if they thought it was, or they may not understand what ‘house style’ meant, which means I probably should have put another a simpler term in brackets to help those people.
