Independence Day Research Paper
It has been a while since you had to rely on a console to play a high tech game. Nowadays, you
can find incredible games that can work on smartphones and tablets pretty well. Of course, they
won t come with all the graphics and your device won t have the same capacity to process complex
adventures, but it doesn t mean that you won t get hook up and have lots of fun.
And Hollywood knows how hard we fall for our movies and have used games to promote their
films and to keep monetizing them years after their release. And if you are one of those who
loves to play games based on movies, here are five of them that you need to try on your mobile
device.

The Great Depression Of 1929 Essay
It is almost nine decades since the outbreak of great depression of 1929 and it still haunts the
economy of America today. The Great Depression was a time of financial hardships and misery
for the Americans. America experienced a time of wreckage and terror. The Great Depression was
not a sudden collapse. Many events led up to the most traumatic economic period of modern times.
World War I, the Roaring Twenties and unequal distribution of wealth among the people were all
origins of the Great Depressionbut a specific cause to this disaster stills remains a mystery
today. After World War I ended Americans wanted a change in their country. Women wanted more
rights and were given the right to vote by 1920. Women became more independent and worked to
help their family and ease the burden of the men at house. Americans wanted to improve their
country. Americans spent their money on improving their roads, bridges and real estate. New
technologies like refrigerators, televisions, radios and cars were mass produced to make life
easier. With the development of new technologies accessibility were endless. Radios covered news;
music and other forms of entertainment, middle class were able to afford cars due to Henry Ford s
method of assembly line. Technology improved productivity in the manufacturing area to an extent
that raised living standards for many. Not every Americans were able to afford the latest appliances,

The Asylum Seeker Is Defined As Person Who Has Fled Their...
An asylum seeker is defined as person who has fled their own country and applied for protection
as a refugee. (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2015).According to the Convention on
refugees, a refugee is someone who has travelled outside his or her own country and cannot return
due to a well founded fear of persecution because of his or her race, religion, nationality,
membership of a particular social group or political opinion which was stated in the Convention
Relating to the Status of Refugees.
As soon as a person in a refugee situation and flees to an international border, he or she is a
defined as a refugee. The person s refugee status is confirmed when the claim they put forward is
assessed, either by a national government or an international agency, such as the UNHCR, and he
or she is found to meet the definition of a refugee.
The term refugee is often used in more terms then the expansion of its legal definition allows. A
refugee generally includes all people who flee their homes to seek refuge from any kind of harm
or threat of harm, such as war, civil strife, domestic violence, poverty or environmental
collapse. However, the legal definition is narrower. The legal definition only applies to people
who can prove they have a well founded fear of persecution because of their race, beliefs, ideals
and opinion. These are free rights that should be obligated to every individual for example freedom
of speech.
Australia has had a long history of welcoming

Analysis Of Ethos, Pathos And Logos
While I had previously heard of Ethos, Pathos and Logos, I didn t have a clear understanding of
the effect each could have to an audience. Each rhetorical appeal can be useful when persuading
an audience, but the most effective use of each would be pathos. Think about a time when you
believe something to be true, you just felt it and when presented with actual evidenced that your
beliefs were incorrect it didn t sway your way of thinking. How many times have you seen a
headline about a crime of logic? We as humans are emotional creatures. I believe it to be impossible
for us to make a decision without emotion.
Being able to invoke people s emotions can open an easy gateway for ethos and logos. Once
someone has become emotionally invested

Women And The Spartan Women
Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were
often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide
an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described
by Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this
misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient
civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted
between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were
incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the
Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their
societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and
educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far
more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and
independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the same freedom and status as Spartan
women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that regardless of gender all Spartiates
had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta. With this focus in mind, women were
allowed more freedom, rights, and independence. Spartan women were

Sex Offender Recidivism Statistics
Sex crimes are a major problem in the United States, especially in certain states such as
California. Legislators have passed numerous laws to try to reduce the number of victims. One
of the measurements taken to reduce recidivism is the sex offender registry, which is a system
designed to keep track of those convicted of a sex offense. There are websites now available that
contain the sex offenders name, address, and photograph. The registries main purpose is to prevent
future sex crimes and to reduce recidivism. The sex registry was set up with good intentions;
however over the years more and more people are on the list without fitting the definition of a sex
offender, making the registry unfair and ineffective. Sex offender registry... Show more content on

These offenders are people who had consensual sexual relationships with a minor. Sometimes the
offender is also a minor, but is older than the other partner. The older person is then charged with
statutory rape and are forced to register as a sex offender even though there was no force used.
This law is in place to prevent older persons from taking advantage of a minor; however, this is
completely unfair, especially if the offender is also a minor. Some opponents might say that
Romeo and Juliet offenders should be on the registry because their sole purpose is to take
advantage of minor to meet their needs. This is true and all Romeo and Juliet offenders should
pay for the offense in some way; however, their names should not be on the registry and
definitely not for life. Alternatives penalties include paying a fine, doing community service,
going to counseling, and have the their name on the registry for a short term if the age gap is
greater than five years or if the offense is committed more than once. For most offenders, these
are foolish mistakes that they made in their teenage years, and therefore shouldn t pay for it all
their life. In addition, there are couples who are happily married even though there is an age gap
of five or seven

The Business Propositions For Woodmere
Woodmere is a window fashion supplier with facilities in Michigan whose customers are
predominately dealers at the retail level. Currently John Smith, a sales representative for
Woodmere, has been working with a company named HomeHelp which is looking to secure an
exclusive distribution agreement with a supplier that currently practices time based logistics. The
opportunitycould be very profitable for both companies as a time based system would allow both
companies to have greater visibility into the supply chain. Woodmere has been the supplier of
choice for the last 50 years with Happy Home Living but this partnership has recently become
strained as salesfor Happy Home continue to dramatically fall.
Some of the key questions that need to be addressed include what are the major business
propositions for Woodmere and HomeHelp to consider in evaluating this proposal? Is time based
logistics the right strategy for each company? One of the initial decisions that Woodmere needs
to consider is if partnering with HomeHelp is the right business decision. One of the rules that
HomeHelp follows is the belief in keeping costs low and service high (D. Bowersox, D. Closs, B.
Cooper, J Bowersox, 2012). This belief may not align with Woodmere which is a company known
for its long standing partnerships. For Woodmere this partnership could mean a significant change
in their current logistical process though if they decide to not partner with HomeHelp then they

As already mentioned, the story of Memento is told backwards and starts at the end of its right
chronological order (scene V), where Leonard kills Teddy. Therefore, the story ends at sequence A,
where Lenny kills Jimmy the drug dealer. The colour scenes alternate with the black and white
scenes and depict the main events of the story since the viewer experiences everything through
Leonard s point of view.Since the story is told backwards, scene by scene the audience gets more
information about the reasons for the murderLenny commits in the very first sequence of the film.

The narrow vote came after heated debate on the floor centered on the needs of low income
students. Though Foil initially agreed to an amendment that would direct any savings as a
result of HB117 to Go Grants (Louisiana s needs based scholarship program), the Baton Rouge
Republican later asked the House to remove the provision. In a move that seems out of character
to many, Baton Rouge Democrat Ted James encouraged his colleagues to support Foil s
measure: When we create a culture of low expectations we get what we ask for. We need to make
changes to TOPS I hope you follow my green light, the oft champion of low income families said.
Opposed by Governor John Bel Edwards (D Amite) and the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation (named
for the founder of the scholarship), HB117 is expected to meet resistance in the Senate. As Foil
attempts to up the GPA requirement from a 2.50 to a 2.75 advocates across the state will be
closely watching to see if Foil s tick sheet gets the necessary bump on the Senate side.
A scheduled vote on Baton Rouge Republican Steve Carter s Gas Taxbill was postponed
Wednesday amid concerns that it did not have the necessary support for House passage. Set to
raise the State s tax on gasoline by 17 cents per gallon, the measure would raise upwards of $500
million each year for transportation and infrastructure needs. HB632 would require a two thirds
majority for approval and current whip

The Major Elements and Dimensions of Culture in Italy Essay
The Major Elements and Dimensions of Culture in Italy
Introduction
The world is made up of over one hundred countries. Those countries are what make the world a
melting pot of diversity, creativity, productivity, and fun. Of all the countries a person could
explore, one would like to present an introduction of Italy. This paper is intended to give the reader
insight on the culture, business, and international relations of Italy. Those International relations are
specifically in comparison to the United States. Both countries rely on one another. For instance, it
is common to see Italians sporting their American made clothing, and it is common to see
Americans admiring their Italian made art. Their codependence of one another is ... Show more

153). Those rates are partially because children who are between the ages of 6 and 18 are required
to attend school (Croce et al, 2009, p. 153).
Religion
Another important, demographical element to discuss is religion. The predominant religion in Italy
is Catholicism (Garelli, 2007). The Roman Catholic headquarters are in Rome, Italy, also known as
the Vatican City. The church is directed by bishops. Almost 70% of the people who practice
Catholicism live in European countries (Saenz, 2005). It is interesting because Garelli stated that
even though a majority of Italians identify with Catholicism, they do not practice it regularly
(2007). He stated that the practice of Catholicism is becoming a minority in Italy (Garelli, 2007).
Religion and government. In terms of how business and the government are affected by religions in
Italy, the country allows for the freedom of worship to all people. Italy, unlike America, does not
have a strict adherence to the separation of church and state. The government financially supports
the Catholic Church at the request of the elected government representatives (Merriman, 2009).
Even the students are allowed to attend voluntary religion classes (Merriman, 2009). One factor that
assists the country with their religious relations is the agreement made between many religions and
the state (Merriman, 2009). One religious group excluded from such agreement is Muslims because

Jack Merridew is nothing short of a devil in disguise. The devilish mask I created represents how
corrupt he became throughout the book. Jack, like the devil, wanted to be in power, and went out
of his way to get it through darker means, which contributed to his downfall in character. His power
hungry nature created a monster which was bred to killRalph and his other companions, even if it
weren t by his own hands necessarily. His tribe and followers, like Roger for example, took the
lives of Piggy and Simon, and were willing to go farther to make sure Jack stayed in power. The

Before the Challenger disaster NASA was a company that once was never prepared to handle
disaster. NASA experienced it s first disaster in October of 1968 known as the Apollo. When the
Apollo occurred NASA wasn t prepared and failed at protecting it s company and discussing the
publics concerns for the disaster. NASA at this time had no exact protocol on handling disasters
and acted on impulse which contributed to NASA losing their reputation. After the Apollo disaster
NASA made it best efforts to create direct protocols to follow when a disaster occurs that they
later was able to use when disaster struck again in the Apollo 13 disaster of 1971. It was at this
time that NASA followed the protocol they set fourth for disaster that helped them handle the crisis

I argue this because NASA was not honest in all their disasters and tried to make coverups that
the public later found out about and when trust is lost its hard to regain it back. The public
believes they have the right to know about crisis and companies are responsible for keeping them
informed so by NASA refusing to give instant and direct information about there crisis they felt
NASA neglected there right to know. NASA failing to let the public know about a crisis many
would argue they weren t being sensitive to how the crisis affected others besides them directly.
Today NASA would need to be more honest about the disaster that occurred and make instant
statement about what is happening to keep the public informed so the public can feel NASA is
considering how they feel. With the change in technology since 1986 NASA would be able to
discuss their crisis through media outlets such as Print,Film,Recording,Television,Radio, and most
importantly the internet where they could use Social Media outlet which are huge

The Evolution of Anticruelty Laws
Soon, many groups were concerned about how animals were being treated. Anticruelty laws were
first passed in Great Britain. The United States quickly followed, responding to the animal welfare
groups; insisting that the government needed to act to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals
(Judson 20). This movement grew rapidly across the United States. In 1829, New York passed the
first anticruelty law prohibiting the malicious injuring or killing or farm animals such as horses,
oxen, cattle or sheep. By 1907, every single American state had passed anticruelty acts. By 1923,
most states prohibited the practice of neglecting and abandonment, cockfighting, and some types of
hunting methods of animals (Judson 21). Throughout the 1800s, animal welfaregroups in Great
Britain and the United States pushed for their governments to pass laws to protect animals from
methods such as slaughter and animal experimentation. In 1824, welfare groups in London were
already being formed. The first society was formed, called the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals(Guither 2). Later, in 1835, public policy was passed in Great Britain to
consolidate and amend the several laws relation to the cruelty and improper treatment of animals
(Guither 2). Decades later, in 1911, Parliament passed the Protection of Animals Acts, which is still
n effect today. Harold D. Guither, author of the book Animal Rights: History and Scope of a

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Essay
Tom Stoppard employs many themes in his play Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead. They largely
have to do with life, agency, and identity, so it is important to not take the actions or dialogue of the
play literally. Most of them have deeper meanings that are applicable to any person that questions
the above stated themes. Tom Stoppard uses absurdist devices to explore the theses of humanity s
incapability to comprehend or understand death, fate and free will s prevalence in life, and personal
identity. At the beginning of the play, Rosencrantz and Guildensternare flipping coins. The coins
that land heads up go to Rosencrantz, and for some reason, all of the coins are doing so. After
landing heads up seventy seven times in a row, Guildenstern believes that by the law of

The Importance Of Art

embodiment of expression, it allows individuals to explore their creativity and enhances their
learning abilities. Without art everything would be black and white, there would be no substance.

Individuals who experience trauma or loss had an impact on their artistic thinking, for example,
Frida Kahlo. John Lennon. Paul McCartney. Truman Capote. Robin Williams. Jerry Garcia, some
of the most revered creative minds in modern history have experienced major trauma.
Psychologists call this phenomenon post traumatic growth. When an individual experiences a
major loss, the brain explores its own creative escape as part of rebuilding themselves, especially
as our perspectives, priorities, and ways of thinking shift around. Post traumatic growth has been
explored in hundreds of scientific studies, including a 2004 study in the Journal of Traumatic Stress
showing that 70% of survivors experienced some kind of positive psychological change after a
traumatic experience.
Art is extremely helpful with teen development. Since teenagers minds and emotions are so
complex it is hard for them to express it directly to others. Adolescents go through times where
they don t feel accepted. Art is the ultimate form of expression which is why some teens who have
a creative mind are able to revert to their talent, it could be through music, clothing, photography,
painting, etc. Art can be therapeutic to those who are capable of tapping into their creative side, it
could be the solution to their problem if they are able to understand the purpose of art. The

To Kill A Mockingbird Dystopian Essay
The Oxford English Dictionary defines dystopia as an imagined place or state in which
everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. The
novel To Kill a Mockingbird is a sad novel with mystery and excitement. There is prejudice
against black people, and little seems to be right. One may wonder if the book meets the
standards of a dystopian novel. The book overall does not meet the qualifications of a dystopian
novel for many reasons. To start, the first reason that To Kill a Mockingbird is not a dystopian
novel is its setting. A dystopian novel usually has a futuristic science fictionsetting. The novel is
set in the tired old town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930 s (Lee 5). There are no advanced
technological advancements; it is a plain simple town. Macomb, while it is fictional, is very
realistic. To Kill a Mockingbird does not match the setting of a typical dystopian novel like
Fahrenheit 451 and Hunger Games. Both of those books fit the cookie cutter dystopian book
perfectly as far as the setting of each novel goes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Merchants Of Cool
In Rushkoff s film, The Merchants of Cool, he rhetorically questions if teenagers even have a

implication was that they do not. However, with the internet s advancements and the accessibility
of communication with massive amounts of people, teenagers today can form authentic cultures
that are not contaminated by the corporate media. When the documentary was produced, media

mostly homogenous and simple to promote familiarity and emotional response. Had these

The Merchants of Cool, Rushkoff goes to a teenage party to survey rising trends and notices a
strange phenomenon. The girls dancing in front of his camera seemed to be selling the same
exaggerated sex appeal that corporations were selling to the teenagers. He labeled this sensation a
sort of giant feedback loop which implied that, since corporations try to mirror teenage behavior
and then pervert that into a more explicit version to sell back, which in turn causes teenagers to
emulate the corporation s behavior, teenagers are incapable of having a genuine culture to call their
own, much like the young

The Brutality Of Human Trafficking In Asia
People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in
chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used. unknown. This quote helps
explain how people are being used as if they were objects in the depths of Asia. Human trafficking
has been an ongoing problem in Asia and is prevalent even today. Human Trafficking
is defined as
the action or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to another,
typically for the purposes of forced labour or commercial sexual exploitation. Most everyone

over to Asia to spread the awareness of human trafficking and the U.S. involvement would help
to decrease the amount of men, women, and children being taken. There are human trafficking
hotlines in Asia to report and stop human trafficking. Again, these are not widely known and
therefore can not always do their jobs. One of these places or hotlines is the ZOE. According to
Human Trafficking Hotline on gozoe.org (n.d.) ZOE receives over 200 calls a year on its
human trafficking hotline. ZOE s Child Rescue (ZCR) department members are Thai citizens
who speak a variety of languages (Thai, Karen, Burmese, etc.) (para. 2). Even though they do
collect on average 200 calls a year, that is only a speck to the thousands of people actually taken
in Asia every year. By spreading awareness in ways such as annual conventions and advertising,
people will become more aware of the existing problem. By giving the people of Asia the
knowledge and the ability to prevent such an attack, the course of human trafficking will presumably

A major character in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the girl with the dragon tattoo, Lisbeth
Salander. Salander is the female protagonist who comes from a difficult and mysterious childhood.
Known for her unconformity, she tends towards the unorthodox in her behaviors and appearances.
Because of her reserved, repressed personality, Salander is oftentimes judged, misunderstood and
dismissed by others. In the eyes of her colleagues, she s seen as a the girl with two brain cells and

Snow White By The Brothers Grimm
Snow White The story of Snow White is a cautionary tale that has been written by many. Each
time it has been told, the authors had a different interpretation of how it should be. The two
variations that I will be focusing on are The Brothers Grimm s story and Walt Disney s film.
Although the fairytales are written and filmed by different authors, they share a common theme
and two symbols. The theme that is present in both Grimm s and Disney s versions is that evil
will always be punished. The symbols that are in both tales include the concept of beauty and
the red poisonous apple. The Brothers Grimm wrote a few versions of Snow White, but the one
I will be referring to be Snow White. I will be comparing this story to the film of Walt Disney
titled Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. These two variations have a great deal in common
including being about Snow White, but they both tell her story a bit differently. I will point out
a few of these differences. In Grimm s version, the Queen visits the dwarf s house three times.
Each time she comes, she leaves with Snow to be looking presumably dead. The Queen harms
her first with a tightly laced corset; second with a poisonous comb she brushes her hair with and
last with a red piece of a poisonous apple. In Disney s film, a red apple poisons Snow once in the
attempt by the evil Queen to take her life. In the Grimm s Snow White, the kiss of the Prince does
not awaken her like in Disney s film, but instead the Prince s men drop her

Analysis Of The Paschal Mystery And Saint Angela Merici
Around the world, the Catholic faith is celebrated daily in similar and different ways. The Catholic
Church throughout the world shares the same liturgy and arrangement but each Church interprets
the Gospel differently. Whether it be the music, art located the church, symbols, or the delivery of
the message, all services provide a different feeling. The Paschal Mystery is always remembered
and portrayed during mass. My home Parish, Saint Angela Mericihas a tall building with a very
plain look to it but our priests are very skilled and tend to never disappoint. Servite s service was
long and overextended due to the Friars being representative to the Servite order. The two
celebrations run similarly but also have contrasts because of diversities within the church and
its attendants. At Saint Angela Merici (SAM), there are 4 columns of wooden pews and a main
altar constructed from granite. Above the altar is a floating crucifix with Christ on the cross.
Along the walls of the church are art pieces depicting the stations of the cross. In contrast,
Servite s mass is held in a theater with multiple rows of individual seats. The altar appears to be a
folding table with a cloth covering the legs. SAM has a very plain interior design, with two
statues. One statue is of Mary and the other is of Joseph. Due to Servite s emphasis on respecting
Mary, there is only one statue which is of Mary. SAM s exterior is very tall and narrow while
Servite s theater looks like any other theater

Locating The Xhoi Recognition Site On Lambda Dna Using
Locating the XhoI Recognition Site on Lambda DNA Using a HindIII and XhoI double digest
Haleigh Wood
Abstract
Restriction enzymes cut DNA at certain sites to create multiple DNA fragments. Restriction
enzyme HindIII has known DNA fragment lengths and recognition sites when digesting lambda
DNA, while the lambda DNA recognition site for restriction enzyme XhoI is unknown. The goal of
this study is to determine the lambda recognition site of XhoI by comparing a HindIII digest and
a HindIII and XhoI double digest on an electrophoresis gel. The HindIII digest had a band at 9.4
kb, but this band was not visible in the double digest, therefore we concluded the recognition site
for XhoI was around 9.4kb. There were also two additional DNA ... Show more content on

XhoI is a type I restriction enzyme, so the location of the recognition site on lambda DNA is
unknown but it is known that it cleaves at CTCGAG sites (XhoI (10u/ul)). While the DNA
fragment lengths and cleavage sites are known for HindIII lambda DNA digest, they are not
known for a XhoI lambda DNA digest. The goal of this study is to determine the recognition site
of XhoI on lambda DNA by comparing the DNA fragments from a HindIII digest to the DNA
fragments of a HindIII and XhoI digest. We will do this by creating a mixture of solutions
containing only DNA, DNA and HindIII, DNA and XhoI, and DNA, HindIII and XhoI. We will
then run a gel electrophoresis, which will separate the DNA, fragments by size and we will
compare the DNA fragments from each solution. Through comparing the DNA fragments from the
HindIII digest and the HindIII and XhoI double digest, we will be able to determine the XhoI
recognition site on the lambda DNA.
Methods
Preparation of restriction digest solutions:
To begin the process to determine the XhoI recognition site in the lamda DNA fragment we first
prepared 4 tubes of solutions containing 10X Optizyme reaction buffer, sterile water, lambda
DNA (0.3 ug/ul), XhoI (10u/ul, 3000u), and HindIII (10u/ul, 7500ul). Tube 1 contained 2ul 10X
Optizyme, 16ul sterile water, and 2ul lambda DNA. Tube 2 contained 2ul 10X Optizyme, 14ul
sterile water, 2ul lambda DNA, and 2ul XhoI. Tube 3 contained 2ul 10X Optizyme, 14ul sterile
water, 2ul

An introduction to the study that provides an overview of the issues studied and discussed: The
study of The Relationship of Sugar to Population Level Diabetes Prevalence: An Econometric
Analysis of Repeated Cross Sectional Data , revolves around the effects of sugar consumption on
diabetes. It is said that the rise in diabetes is mostly due to type 2 diabetes that lead to hypertension,
insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. But it is unclear whether the prevalence of type 2 diabetes is
determined by the amount of sugar being consumed. While studies have shown that sugar plays an

But an increase of sugar availability of 150 kcal/person/day resulted in a rise of 1.1% in diabetes
prevalence. From the cross national model of diabetes prevalence from 2000 to 2010, there has
been an overall increase of diabetes by 27% on average, with one fourth of the results accounted
by an increase of sugar availability. The Gross Domestic Product coefficient also played a role in
that a 1% increase in GDP resulted in a 1.07% increase in diabetes prevalence. This goes to show
that economic development is an important factor in the prevalence of diabetes. Findings further
showed that sugar significantly correlated with the prevalence of diabetes but the effects of sugar
was independent on the total calorie consumption and obesity. When the obesity factor was
unaccounted for, the effect of sugar was not drastically changed, which shows that obesity remains

Iraq and Democracy Essay
Iraq and Democracy
Systems based on guaranteed freedoms, the rule of law, and peaceful electoral transitions are
obviously desirable for all. Today s debate over bringing democracy to the Muslim Middle East
often centers on whether the region is ready for democracy (Newsom). A number of problems
the US has to face during transferring democratic essentials seems to just increase: ongoing fights
in whole Iraq, a lack of governmental structure, a shortage of charismatic political figures, who
would be acceptable by American side, and finally the lack of cultural experience in democratic
governing. Giving the power over to Iraqis must be done, but the process has to be careful and

The question of postoccupation foreign policies hasn t arisen. When it does, issues of the treatment
of US forces, the role of Islam, and attitudes toward Israel may arise. Each will be followed closely
in Washington. If new policies are unacceptable, strong demands will be made, either for a forceful
removal of the offending government or for sanctions. It may not be enough for proponents of
diplomacy to point to the risks of setting aside an elected government or to urge dialogue with the
new authorities, arguing that the experience of power often modifies the most radical of
governments. The US commitment to the results of democracy will be sorely tested.
The temporary government in Iraq struggles with a lot of difficulties. The first is the
disappearance of all previous government structures following the war there was chaos within
these, like: army, police, and all Baas party councils, even officials in national departments and
villages leaders. Although action was necessary, experts warned that the situation in Iraq wouldn

after 1945 (there the symbol of country continuity was held by leaving Mikado on the throne).
Now all of those people are slowly replaced by new, pro American Iraqis. Another serious problem
is the lack of fresh, charismatic

The Nordic Creation Myth
Much of the information about the Norse religion derives from Edda, which were a compilation of
Norse poem, gathered in Iceland during the Middle Ages (Lemonick and Dorfman). In Norse
Mythology, the world was created when Odin and his brothers slew the Frost Giant Ymir, and it
will end when the Giants rise against Odinand his comrades and kill them in battle. Nordic culture
was deeply centered on war, the only way one could enter Valhalla (the warrior s paradise) was to
die courageously in battle. Violence was a constant in their mythology, even love was accompanied
by murder, and treachery. Despite the harshness of death, friendship, drinking, eating, making love,
avenging wrongs, and fighting bravely was highly regarded (Citation). Nordic... Show more content

The gods would die when the Giants and demons rose against them. The last fight would take
place at Vigrid, a field one hundred miles in length and breadth (Ashliman). Odin would be
swallowed by Fenrir the wolf, but his son would avenge him. Thor and the Midgard Serpent would
destroy each other; so would Loki and Heimdall; and Tyr would slay Garm, the fierce dog of
Niflheim, and be clawed to death in turn. The stars and all heavenly bodies would plummet from
the sky as the earth sank beneath the sea. In Nordic mythology this was the end of time when all
existence would be destroyed. From the ashes of the old world, the Nameless One would give
birth to a new world beyond the edge of time (Ashliman). Nordic mythology shares several
similarities to that of the Bible, particularly that in the end of times a great battle will be fought,
from the ashes of which will be born a new

Products and Services for Consumers
1.Debate the issue of global versus adapted products for the international market. A recurring
debate exists relative to product planning and focuses on the question of standardized products
marketed worldwide versus differentiated products adapted or even redesigned for each culturally
unique market. Those with a strong production and unit cost orientation advocate standardization
and others, perhaps more culturally sensitive, propose the policy of a different product for each
market. The issue cannot be resolved with a simple either/or decision. Cost revenue analyses need
to be done and decisions made in the hard, cold lights of profitability. There is no question that
significant cost savings can be realized from having standardized... Show more content on

Industrialized countries have the highest quality image, and there is generally a bias against
products from developing countries. Within groups of countries grouped by economic
development there are variations of image. For example, one study of COE between Mexico
and Taiwan found that a microwave oven manufactured in Mexico was perceived as
significantly more risky than an oven made in Taiwan. However, for jeans there was no
difference in perception between the two countries. One might generalize that the more technical
the product, the less positive is the perception of one manufactured in a less developed or newly
industrializing country. There is also the tendency to favor foreign made products over domestic
made in less developed countries. Not all foreign products fare equally well since consumers in
developing countries have stereotypes about the quality of foreign made products even from
industrialized countries. A survey of consumers in the Czech Republic found that 72 percent of
Japanese products were considered to be of the highest quality, German goods followed with 51%,
Swiss goods with 48%, Czech goods with 32% and, last, the United States with 29%. One final
generalization about COE involves fads that often surround products from particular countries or
regions in the world. These fads are more often product specific and generally involve goods that
are themselves faddish in nature. European consumers are apparently

the harshness of reality. Walter is first seen as the Commander of a navy hydroplane through a

wife as she nags him for speeding. Unnamed Mrs. Mitty continues to command her husband even
insisting that he wear gloves. Walter, upset, purposely takes off the gloves at a red light. As he
stopped at the red light for too long, a cop tells him to Pick it up, brother! (The). Mitty

Thurber had a troublesome marriage with Althea; Walter is constantly being controlled by Mrs.
Mitty. Because of Mrs. Mitty s nagging and imposing influence seen in paragraphs 3 and 4,
Walter is triggered into a daydream. As a world famous surgeon, he not only is in control of his
life, but the life of his patient. Mitty cleverly adapts to emergencies like using a fountain pen to
fix the needed surgical machinery (The). Every time he escapes, it is because of a trigger, often
through an authority figure imposing on him. In fact, it is the clear distinction between fantasy and
reality that makes escaping a theme. The heavy juxtaposition between diction of the dream world
and real life is evident. For example, in the second daydream as a surgeon, Dr. Mitty snapped at
fellow doctors and nurses to give him a fountain pen and uses fake yet complicated sounding
medical terms such as Obstreosis of the ductal tract (The). However, in the subsequent paragraph as
Walter clumsily almost hits another car in the parking lot in reality, he only muttered in response to
the valet, unable to give a definitive reply. The dramatic juxtaposition between Mitty s spectacular
fantasies and mundane reality drives the story. Thurber highlights Mitty s desperateness for action
through the drastic differences in scenes. Also, Thurber distinguishes daydreams by incorporating
much more imperative voice and literary devices compared to straight dialogue in the reality.
Thurber literally makes the fantasies more alive and interesting than boring reality. Onomatopoeia
is seen in 3 of the 5 daydreams, ta pocketa pocketa... in paragraph 1 for the hydroplane and the same
sound for the surgical machine (The). Rat tat tatting in paragraph 14 reflects the machine gun
sounds Captain Mitty heard during war. By using onomatopoeia,

Management Information Systems Recommendations Report
For Fictitious Company Globally, retailing is witnessing epic transformations. The use of
technology has fueled upheavals in the retail landscape that are revolutionary in scope, and
unprecedented in nature (Leventon, Gupta Magal, 2011). Technology has advanced from the
automation of structured processes to systems that are truly revolutionary in that they introduce
change into the fundamental business procedures, workflow and management of an organization.
Numerous studies have shown that the employment of new or the updating of a business s existing
technology contributes to a firm s competitive advantage, which in turn creates greater value for the
customer (Altshuler, Gelb Henry, 2010; Bharadwaj, 2000; Carr, 2003; Mellville, Kraemer,
Ghurbaxani, 2004). The main operational and human resource challenges for Fictitious Company
that will be addressed from a management information system perspective in this report are: low
levels of inventory, manual procurement procedures, access to new trends, and security and ethical
breaches by employees.
A competitive advantage exists when a company is able to deliver the same benefits as
competitors but at a lower cost, or deliver benefits that exceed those of competing products (Porter,
1998). The operational and human resource challenges experienced by Fictitious Company clearly
places the business at a competitive disadvantage. To address this dilemma it is

Ancient Egypt and Mondern Society
Over the last several thousand years, dozens of great civilizations have risen from nothing and
fallen back into obscurity. Not all civilizations, however, leave a lasting mark on the world,
especially not one so profound that influences the world as it exists today. One such civilization
that has had a profound impact on daily modern lives was that of Ancient Egypt. Their systems of
religion and technological innovation helped not only to leave a permanent impression on the
world, but also served to mold both the civilizations that directly followed it as well as society
today. The Ancient Egyptian civilization spanned several thousand years and is one of the few
societies of the time that came into being independently. Egyptian... Show more content on

Egyptians not only contributed to future society through the invention of their language, giving
them the ability to record their history for future generations, but they also were the first people
to create a sensible medium upon which to inscribe their language: paper. Taken from the fibers
of the papyrus plant, Egyptian paper was the first of its kind ( Ancient 1). This invention would
come to change everything about written language, but not only did Egyptians create the first
paper, they also were skilled at creating ink. The process and depth of color utilized in the
Egyptian invention of ink and dye was so marvelous that these brilliant hued colors can still be seen
today, thousands of years later ( Ancirnt 1).
Egypt is also known for its statues depicting various gods and tombs for its numerous pharaohs.
Their architectural prowess is a feat marveled at even today. The ability to design and build such
grand monuments such as the iconic pyramids of Giza, rivalling even the Mayan and Aztec
temples of South and Central America, reveals the true nature of innovation in Egypt. In fact, even
without modern tools of measurement, the Great Pyramid, the largest tomb in Egypt, is almost
geometrically perfect. For such a large structure, the length of all four sides at its base differ by
less than a foot (McKenty 1).

Rotator Cuff Injury Research Paper
Millions of people across the United States suffer from either Bursitis or a rotator cuff injury
every year. Although sometimes the two can be misconceived, they are very different in all
actuality. Bursitis is the inflammation or irritation of the bursa. A bursa is a fluid filled sac used
as a bumper near the joints to reduce friction. There are many bursae located in your body, some of
which being in the hip, shoulder, wrist, and elbow. However, a rotator cuffinjury only affects the
shoulder area of the body. The rotator cuff is composed of the supraspinatus, infraspinatus,
subscapularis, and teres minor muscles. There is only one main way to be diagnosed with Bursitis
and it happens when you overuse a joint in sports or on the job. You can put the bursa under
pressure for a long time, thus causing the bursa to become inflamed.... Show more content on

On the other hand, scientists have found three main activities that can cause a rotator cuff tear.
Repetitive stress is when you repeat a certain action or movement constantly and cause the
muscles to tear. Sports like baseball and tennis can cause this. Another way of disruption is by a
lack of blood supply in the rotator cuff. As people age blood supply to our tendons and muscles
can deplete, causing an impairment in our body s natural repair of tendons. The final way that
can cause a tear in the rotator cuff is bone spurs. Bone spurs can develop on the underside of the
acromion bone. When we lift our arms, the spurs rub on the rotator cuff tendons. This condition is
called shoulder impingement, and over time will weaken the tendon and make it more likely to
tear. The first sign of trouble with Bursitis is pain. Along with this pain will come swelling,
redness, and tenderness of the affected area. In some cases, it will cause stiffness in the

Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible
Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to
follow religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business
with you or even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft
accusation was staring you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to
doubt whether the accused individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his
reputation and his friends reputations that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He
would, quite literally, rather die. Although John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as
a witch, he gains his reputation and respect among those who matter, like his wife, because he
refuses to falsely identify his friends and neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation
toward the end of the play shows that characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations
they deserve, despite the personal tragedies that might take place along the way. Having a good
reputation is very important in The Crucible. It means you can be accepted by society. If you do
not have a good name, you will be completely rejected. John Proctor would no longer be thought
of a morally straight and righteous person. Reverend Parris would lose all his respect and not be
accepted by society. Judge Danforth would be constantly questioned and lose his job. Keeping and
maintaining your good name is an overwhelming theme in The

Barton is the founding of the American Red Cross. After the war, she took a deserved cure
vacation to Europe. While on her stay, she came in contact with some members of the National
Red Cross Committee. With her heart set on creating an American Red Cross, she returned to
America. The government was hesitant to begin the organization. They were afraid of getting
entangled into foreign affairs. Finally, it was finally approved in 1882 at the Geneva Convention.

The Technique Of Film And Video Editing
Summarizing
The Technique Of Film Video Editing.
Film first began in 1895. By the time the first motion picture was made, editing was non existant.
The very first films made were less than a minute long. Only films like Melies used at least a
little bit of editing. Melies films also grew longer in length, however they were all still single
shots. Although the films were edited to have multiple shots and to tell a story, they were not made
in a manner that we are now used to. It was only until the movies of Edwin S. Porter that film
editing started to have a meaning.
EDWIN S. PORTER FILM CONTNUITY BEGINS
Intrigued by the length and quality of MeВґlie`s s work, In 1903 Edwin S. Porter began to use a
visual continuity to make his films more compelling. In one of his films The Life of an American
Fireman (1903)he uses 20 shots in six minutes to show how the mother and child are saved. Porter
believes that a single should stand as the basic principle of editing. The job of the camera was
simply to record the shot and not add ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Griffith. Emotional relevance plays a major role in this film, and to capture the most emotional
scenes in the narrative I will be using Close up shots. A camera technique made famous by D.W.
Griffith(Dancygey 2011: 5). Like Mr. Griffith tried to achieve with his audience, I want the
spectators watching our film to show sympathy towards our protagonist. This will make them
feel emotionally involved with the film(Dancyger 2011: 5). The scene in the beginning of the
film where the actor sheds a tear, I will be using the close up shot and paying clearly emphasis on
the tear as it drops from his eyes. This scene immediately tells us that the car guard is not proud
with the position of life he is in. Another scene that I will be using a close up shot will be the
ending scene as the car guard starts to realise his life is about to

History of the Holocaust
HISTORY OF THE HOLOCAUST There are many important dates throughout the history of the
Holocaust, spanning the time line of January 30,1933 through May 8,1945.This report covers
some of the tragic events, from the beginning of Hitler s dictatorship, and the fall of the Nazi
power. From Nazi camps to hateful deaths. The holocaust was, and still is one of the most
important parts of history. The beginning of the Nazi s power began when the hateful man, Adolf
Hitler, came to be dictator of Germany in 1933. He was named chancellor by President Paul von
Hirdenburg. Hitler took the chancellor s oath on January 30,and that night Nazis celebrated the

hospitals. The survivors were placed in displaced persons facilities. In 1946 at Nuremberg, Nazi

  • 9. Women And The Spartan Women Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were often given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide an income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described by Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this misogynistic view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient civilization. The role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted between two important civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were incredibly advanced for their time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the Spartan and Athenian women held roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their societies. However, their lives were much different. While the Spartan women were strong and educated, the Athenian women held a status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far more advanced than Athenians in aspects of life including education, athleticism, and independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the same freedom and status as Spartan women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that regardless of gender all Spartiates had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta. The Roman Catholic headquarters are in Rome, Italy, also known as the Vatican City. The church is directed by bishops. Almost 70% of the people who practice Catholicism live in European countries (Saenz, 2005). The United States quickly followed, responding to the animal welfare groups; insisting that the government needed to act to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals (Judson 20). This movement grew rapidly across the United States. In 1829, New York passed the first anticruelty law prohibiting the malicious injuring or killing or farm animals such as horses, oxen, cattle or sheep. By 1907, every single American state had passed anticruelty acts. By 1923, most states prohibited the practice of neglecting and abandonment, cockfighting, and some types of hunting methods of animals (Judson 21). Throughout the 1800s, animal welfaregroups in Great Britain and the United States pushed for their governments to pass laws to protect animals from methods such as slaughter and animal experimentation. In 1824, welfare groups in London were already being formed. The first society was formed, called the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(Guither 2). • 25. Snow White By The Brothers Grimm Snow White The story of Snow White is a cautionary tale that has been written by many. Each time it has been told, the authors had a different interpretation of how it should be. The two variations that I will be focusing on are The Brothers Grimm s story and Walt Disney s film. Although the fairytales are written and filmed by different authors, they share a common theme and two symbols. The theme that is present in both Grimm s and Disney s versions is that evil will always be punished. The symbols that are in both tales include the concept of beauty and the red poisonous apple. The Brothers Grimm wrote a few versions of Snow White, but the one I will be referring to be Snow White. I will be comparing this story to the film of Walt Disney titled Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. These two variations have a great deal in common including being about Snow White, but they both tell her story a bit differently. I will point out a few of these differences. In Grimm s version, the Queen visits the dwarf s house three times. Each time she comes, she leaves with Snow to be looking presumably dead. The Queen harms her first with a tightly laced corset; second with a poisonous comb she brushes her hair with and last with a red piece of a poisonous apple. In Disney s film, a red apple poisons Snow once in the attempt by the evil Queen to take her life. In the Grimm s Snow White, the kiss of the Prince does not awaken her like in Disney s film, but instead the Prince s men drop her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Analysis Of The Paschal Mystery And Saint Angela Merici Around the world, the Catholic faith is celebrated daily in similar and different ways. The Catholic Church throughout the world shares the same liturgy and arrangement but each Church interprets the Gospel differently. Whether it be the music, art located the church, symbols, or the delivery of the message, all services provide a different feeling. The Paschal Mystery is always remembered and portrayed during mass. My home Parish, Saint Angela Mericihas a tall building with a very plain look to it but our priests are very skilled and tend to never disappoint. Servite s service was long and overextended due to the Friars being representative to the Servite order. The two celebrations run similarly but also have contrasts because of diversities within the church and its attendants. At Saint Angela Merici (SAM), there are 4 columns of wooden pews and a main altar constructed from granite. Above the altar is a floating crucifix with Christ on the cross. Along the walls of the church are art pieces depicting the stations of the cross. In contrast, Servite s mass is held in a theater with multiple rows of individual seats. The altar appears to be a folding table with a cloth covering the legs. SAM has a very plain interior design, with two statues. One statue is of Mary and the other is of Joseph. Due to Servite s emphasis on respecting Mary, there is only one statue which is of Mary. SAM s exterior is very tall and narrow while Servite s theater looks like any other theater ... • 27. Locating The Xhoi Recognition Site On Lambda Dna Using Locating the XhoI Recognition Site on Lambda DNA Using a HindIII and XhoI double digest Haleigh Wood Abstract Restriction enzymes cut DNA at certain sites to create multiple DNA fragments. Restriction enzyme HindIII has known DNA fragment lengths and recognition sites when digesting lambda DNA, while the lambda DNA recognition site for restriction enzyme XhoI is unknown. The goal of this study is to determine the lambda recognition site of XhoI by comparing a HindIII digest and a HindIII and XhoI double digest on an electrophoresis gel. The HindIII digest had a band at 9.4 kb, but this band was not visible in the double digest, therefore we concluded the recognition site for XhoI was around 9.4kb. XhoI is a type I restriction enzyme, so the location of the recognition site on lambda DNA is unknown but it is known that it cleaves at CTCGAG sites (XhoI (10u/ul)). While the DNA fragment lengths and cleavage sites are known for HindIII lambda DNA digest, they are not known for a XhoI lambda DNA digest. The goal of this study is to determine the recognition site of XhoI on lambda DNA by comparing the DNA fragments from a HindIII digest to the DNA fragments of a HindIII and XhoI digest. We will do this by creating a mixture of solutions containing only DNA, DNA and HindIII, DNA and XhoI, and DNA, HindIII and XhoI. We will then run a gel electrophoresis, which will separate the DNA, fragments by size and we will compare the DNA fragments from each solution. Through comparing the DNA fragments from the HindIII digest and the HindIII and XhoI double digest, we will be able to determine the XhoI recognition site on the lambda DNA. Methods Preparation of restriction digest solutions: To begin the process to determine the XhoI recognition site in the lamda DNA fragment we first prepared 4 tubes of solutions containing 10X Optizyme reaction buffer, sterile water, lambda DNA (0.3 ug/ul), XhoI (10u/ul, 3000u), and HindIII (10u/ul, 7500ul). It is said that the rise in diabetes is mostly due to type 2 diabetes that lead to hypertension, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. The Gross Domestic Product coefficient also played a role in that a 1% increase in GDP resulted in a 1.07% increase in diabetes prevalence. This goes to show that economic development is an important factor in the prevalence of diabetes. The Nordic Creation Myth Much of the information about the Norse religion derives from Edda, which were a compilation of Norse poem, gathered in Iceland during the Middle Ages (Lemonick and Dorfman). In Norse Mythology, the world was created when Odin and his brothers slew the Frost Giant Ymir, and it will end when the Giants rise against Odinand his comrades and kill them in battle. Nordic culture was deeply centered on war, the only way one could enter Valhalla (the warrior s paradise) was to die courageously in battle. Within groups of countries grouped by economic development there are variations of image. For example, one study of COE between Mexico and Taiwan found that a microwave oven manufactured in Mexico was perceived as significantly more risky than an oven made in Taiwan. However, for jeans there was no difference in perception between the two countries. One might generalize that the more technical the product, the less positive is the perception of one manufactured in a less developed or newly industrializing country. There is also the tendency to favor foreign made products over domestic made in less developed countries. Not all foreign products fare equally well since consumers in developing countries have stereotypes about the quality of foreign made products even from industrialized countries. A survey of consumers in the Czech Republic found that 72 percent of Japanese products were considered to be of the highest quality, German goods followed with 51%, Swiss goods with 48%, Czech goods with 32% and, last, the United States with 29%. Because of Mrs. Mitty s nagging and imposing influence seen in paragraphs 3 and 4, Walter is triggered into a daydream. As a world famous surgeon, he not only is in control of his life, but the life of his patient. Mitty cleverly adapts to emergencies like using a fountain pen to fix the needed surgical machinery (The). Every time he escapes, it is because of a trigger, often through an authority figure imposing on him. In fact, it is the clear distinction between fantasy and reality that makes escaping a theme. The heavy juxtaposition between diction of the dream world and real life is evident. For example, in the second daydream as a surgeon, Dr. Mitty snapped at fellow doctors and nurses to give him a fountain pen and uses fake yet complicated sounding medical terms such as Obstreosis of the ductal tract (The). However, in the subsequent paragraph as Walter clumsily almost hits another car in the parking lot in reality, he only muttered in response to the valet, unable to give a definitive reply. The dramatic juxtaposition between Mitty s spectacular fantasies and mundane reality drives the story. Thurber highlights Mitty s desperateness for action through the drastic differences in scenes. Also, Thurber distinguishes daydreams by incorporating much more imperative voice and literary devices compared to straight dialogue in the reality. Thurber literally makes the fantasies more alive and interesting than boring reality.
