Global Public Policy Is Made By State And Non State Actors
Global public issues such as global climate change, international financial market, illicit international
trade, cross border migration, internet governance and cyber war, nuclear proliferation, global public
drug and etc cause a need of global public policy. Basically global public policy has been designed in
order to achieve desired goals in global public challenges. Global public policy is made by state and
non state actors. In classical political science only the states were recognized as a significant actors in
public policy and international policies were made between states( Wimmer and Schiller,2002), while
in the recent decades non state actors play important role in global governance(Whitman, 2009,87).
For instance, UN, UNDP, UNIDO are central in the global public sphere (Kaul 2003).
Global public policy activities take place among non state actors and intergovernmental counterpart in
global agora (Stone, 2008, 5 8).Global public policy needs to be made in global agora. Previously,
global agora was a place for social, economical, political and cultural interaction of states and non
states members. However, today global agora is evolving with various set of networks , global public
and private partnership and multilateral initiatives global agora is managed by business and policy
elites(Stone, 2008, 10).
Global public policy aim to respond to three types of policy problems (Soroos 1991):
Firstly, transboundary problems such as money laundry, drug trafficking and

Personal Pilate Action Plan
Specific Goal:
I would like to improve my performance in the pilates exercise of roll ups. The pilates roll ups targets
and strengthens the abdominal muscles and spine. It also tones the buttocks, lower back and hips. I am
choosing an exercise that targets core strength because I have Crohn s Disease and this affects my
core. I want to build core muscle and this will help my digestive system. My fitness test in one of my
first pilates classes showed I have a weak core because I had a difficult time doing the Hundreds
exercise and roll ups. If possible, I would like to double my performance in the roll ups exercise over
the course of two weeks.
Measured Goal:
Current level of performance: 20
Target level of performance: 40
Action Plan:

The first point, holding a plank is an activity I may do every morning before going to school. Before
eating breakfast or getting ready, I can awaken myself up and challenge myself by doing a plank on a
pilates mat beside my bed. Second, the roll ups exercise may be done very easily in my bedroom on
my mat before going to bed. Whereas, performing crunches every second day gives me time to
recover from my previous workout and still progress with myself to attain my goal. I either have time
in the morning or at night and my action plan incorporates both times. The only resource this action
plan requires is a pilates mat and I will use my mother s mat at home and I already have a treadmill in
my basement.
Timely Goal:
Today, it is Friday October 23, 2015 that I am creating my goal for an exercise in pilates. I will have
class on Monday October 26, 2015 in which I will be able to work on my roll ups. Considering the
two hour pilates class I have every Monday and the measures I am aiming to take outside of class, I
am hoping to achieve my target in two weeks from now. Therefore, in my pilates class on Monday
November 9, 2015 I will be able to achieve my

Night Of The Living Dead Essay
In 1968, in a cemetery about 30 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh, a movie that would change
cinematic history forever was being created. George Romero s classic film Night of the Living Dead,
was being filmed. Up until 1968, the word zombie had a completely different meaning than it does
today. George A. Romero created the horror movie antagonist that many audiences know and fear. The
Pre Romero zombie has many notable differences from the modern zombie. Most notably, it is alive
and simply under a voodoo curse. These zombies did not crave flesh or brains, and there were no large
scale outbreaks. Night of the Living Dead changed this all, and paved the way for the zombie to
evolve into what it is today. Although it seems laughable to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rather than following a single path, as it had in the past, modern zombie evolution has branched out
like roots on a tree. According to Kevin Boon there are currently 9 major classifications of zombies
...Zombie Drones, Zombie Ghouls, Bio Zombies, Cultural; Zombies, Zombie Ghosts, and Zombie
Ruses. These many classifications show how the progression of the zombie has become more than just
one thing. The plots of movies have changed along with the types of zombies. Rather than just a small
outbreak, that are often full scale zombie apocalypses. These large scale outbreaks are caused by many
things, such as a cure for cancer in the 2007 thriller I am Legend, or government experimentation,
such as in the 2002 Sci Fi flick 28 Days Later. The Zombie has also gone on to attain speed, strength,
and intelligence, making it a much bigger threat than before. Imagine the difference between coming
across a voodoo zombie, which would be a bit unsettling at most, and coming across a modern
zombie, which would likely mean inevitable death. As technology and special effects have advanced,
so has the ability to create more and more terrifying versions of the

Citizens United Vs Fec
In 2008, a non profit organization called Citizens United attempted to air a film entitled Hillary: The
Movie. Because it was so close to the potential nomination of Hillary Clinton, Citizens United was
barred from commercializing and airing their film. Upset with this apparent disregard for the First
Amendment, the conservative non profit fought back against the courts, eventually take it to the
Supreme Court. This Supreme court ruling was entitled Citizens United v. FEC . Citizens United
attempted to show how free speech shouldn t be limited for companies. Congress shall make no law

You need money to run a campaign, and each federal election will eventually come down to who
contributed the most money. The Service Employees International Union denounced the decision
saying, Today the US Supreme Court lifted the floodgates and started dismantling century old
restrictions on corporate electoral activiy in the name of the free speech rights of corporations
meaning if you a corporate person , you are now free to hit the corporate ATM and spend whatever of
your shareholders money it takes to elect the candidates of your choice. However, money doesn t buy
elections. This couldn t have been made anymore evident by the 2016 election.
(campaignfreedom.org, opensecrets, org) Clinton raised 687.3 million dollars to fund her campaign,
while Trump raised a mere 306.9 million dollars. Not only that, ads for Clinton were triple the amount
of ads for Trump. And most importantly, the three biggest super PACS (making a whopping one fourth
of total campaign contributions), all supported losing candidates. This election made it clear that
money is less important than the person. People didn t vote for Hillary because of her emails and her
corruptness, while people voted for Donald because we wasn t politically correct and desired change.

Nimrud Research Paper
The remains of the city, Nimrud, tell many stories about itself throughout its lifespan. Even though
most of the remains left today were destroyed by an Islamic terrorist group, we can still replicate,
through the architecture, the lives of the Nimrud people. Through the statues built and the reliefs on
the walls we can determine the everyday lives, wars, and divinity that the people of Nimrud lived
among.
Sir Layard was the first to head an excavation team at Nimrud. He choose this site considering his
earlier travels near Nimrud. One of his major find was the sculpture of the King Ashurnasirpal II.
From the expedition were two colossal winged lions, which Layard insisted be kept intact, unlike
similar lamassu from Khorsabad that had been cut into smaller sections for their transportation to the
Louvre Museum. Layard moved his winged lions whole, much in the same way they had originally
been transported to Nimrud in antiquity. His findings were shipped to The British Museum where they
became the centerpiece of their art. 1 This sentence from his book shows how much he wanted to
preserve the art and architecture of Nimrud. Sir Layard wanted to keep these pieces in a whole ...

Zora Hurston s Sweat Essay
Living Happily Ever After 1 In Zora Hurston s short story, Sweat, [Titles] Delia Jones is married to a
very dominant and powerful man. Skye [Sp] Jones is his name, and he is an abusive man who has no
respect for Delia. Being married for fifteen years seems to be a lot for Delia, considering that she has
only loved Skyes [Sp] for a short time after they were married. Living a life of fear and helplessness
allows the dominant figure of that person s life to continue to have total control until the fall of that
dominant figure. The theme of the story [This theme] can be supported by characterization, symbols,
and setting.

Delia continues to do her laundry and take care of the house while her husband is out with his

her that when he gets ride [rid] of Delia, that she can have anything in the house or in the whole town.
Skyes is trying to make himself out to be a respectable loving man, and he wants Bertha to believe
that he has power. The only power that he has is when it involves controlling his wife.
3 Delia Jones is petrified of snakes, and Skyes really has no problem with them.
[Poor topic sentence: if this paragraph is about symbolism, the word symbol (or symbolism ) should
appear in the topic sentence.] One day when Skyes came home with Delia s horse and wagon, he
threw his whip at her. Delia thought that it was a snake at first, and she was quite frightened. The whip
is definitely a sign of dominance, and control. [Good point] This scene takes place at the beginning of
the story; therefore we get a better understanding of the dominant figure right away. Another symbol
in the story is the laundry that Delia does. Skyes has yelled at her several times to stop washing the
white folk s laundry, but she continues to do so. This could be a way for Delia to get back at Skyes for
all the misery that she has gone through. Delia also starts on the laundry Sunday s

The Characteristics Of A Detective Fiction
Detective Fiction Essay
A detective fiction is a literary genre in form of a short story or novel that deals with crimes, usually
murder and detectives are involved to seek out justice for the victims. The detectives involved in
detective fictions can either be private, amateur, or police detectives. There are also other characters
like the suspects and the side kicks. An amateur detective is a detective who has no license to operate
as a private investigator neither is he/she a member of the police force. These detectives have a
different profession, but are not trained in criminal investigation. They have a passion in crime and
delivering justice to the society. On the other hand, a private detective also known as hard boiled is a
male or female detective trained in criminal investigation. Dealing with crime is his/her profession,
therefore, has good physical attributes and uses the gun efficiently. The two detectives differ in two
ways; first, they differ in financial status, secondly they differ on how they use violence in their
investigations.
The first difference between an amateur detective and a private detective is their financial statuses. An
amateur detective is an individual who has another job or rather a ... Show more content on

Raymond Chandler. Raymond writes that, He is a relatively poor man, or he would not be a detective

short story Trouble is My Business by Phillip Marlowe. This story presents a needy private detective.
When he is hired, he confesses that, I started to get up from my chair, then remembered that business
had been bad for a month and that I needed the money (Marlowe 255). This is an example of a hard

Eye-Opening Lessons Learned In Alex Haley s Popular Book
In 1977, the television miniseries Roots first aired on ABC. It was based of Alex Haley s popular book
released in 1976. The story is about Alex Haley s ancestors, tracing all the way to Africa. It starts with
a teenage boy, Kunta Kinte, who was born in Gambia in West Africa. When Kunta is looking for some
wood to make a drum, he gets captured and that is when the long adventure begins. There were three
really eye opening lessons I learned about slavery: the boat ride to American was painful and most did
not survive, slaves were not allowed to read or write, and after the Civil War and slaves were free,
they were still treated badly and still not considered equal. First, coming to America on the slave ship
was an awful ordeal. When Captain Thomas Davies saw the slave ship blueprints, the horrors started
to sink in. The slaves were chained up and squeezed in tight for maximum profit. They were put under
the deck and got sea sick alot. Workers on the ship would also rape the female slaves for pleasure. One
time, Captain Thomas Davies was in his cabin and Mr Slater came in and offered him a female slave
for pleasure. The female slave looked horrified and Captain Thomas Davies refused to take her
because he was a married christian man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Contradictions Of Poverty
Poverty does not solely pertain to individuals without the money to sustain themselves. Rather,
poverty refers to the conditions of individuals or groups of people who only possess limited means to
have and raise their children, care for their loved ones, maintain households, or contribute to their
communities. In Contradictions of Capital and Care, Nancy Fraser identifies these social needs as the
key capacities of social reproduction that are necessary for culture, political organization, and the
creation of self expanding value via economic production. Individuals lose these social capacities due
to the contradiction between economic production and social reproduction that is inherent in
capitalism; once these capacities are lost, individuals remain stuck in the cycle of poverty because of
their limited abilities within the existing societal structures and hierarchies that subjugate them. The
only way to significantly reduce and eventually end poverty is thus to restructure society, so that social
reproduction and economic production are no longer contradictory and are recognized as inter
dependent spheres.
While poverty has numerous causes that create and reinforce it, the central cause of poverty is the
contradiction between social reproduction and economic production. In capitalist society, economic
production outweighs social reproduction, simply because economic production brings in money,
which is what gives individuals purchasing power and the ability to

Salt Solution Concentrations And Water On The Mass Of...
The Effect of Salt Solution Concentrations and Water On the Mass of Potatoes
Research Question
What happens to the mass of the diced potatoes when submerged in varying concentrations of salt
solutions and water in 10 minute intervals? This experiment will compare the mass of the diced
potatoes submerged in distilled water, 1% salt solution, 5% salt solution, and 10% salt solution
respectively in 10 minute intervals.
Background Information
Potatoes first originated in South America and were later introduced to Europe by Spanish explorers.
Now, potatoes have become an important staple food item to have in the kitchen. They are packed
with more energy than any other vegetable. A potato is made of potassium, vitamin C, fiber, starch,
water, and fat. The concentration of each component is as follows: 18% starch, 78% water, 2
5%protein, and 1% fat.
Hypothesis
If the concentration of the salt solution increases then, its mass will decrease. This is because water
molecules move from a higher concentration to a lower concentration in a process called osmosis.
Potatoes are made of mostly water and because of the salt solution concentration the water molecules
in the potato will move out of it. The higher the concentration, the more water molecules move out of
the potato.
Variables
The independent variable is the salt solution concentration. The dependant variable is the mass of the
potato. The control variable is the distilled water.
Control of Variables

Why Should Smoking Be Banned In Public Essay
The numbers of people who smoke have increase over the years. Although they are equipped with the
knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It is a personal choice and
a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking. It is not
for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should be allowed to smoke.
However, smoking does not only affect the smoker negatively. It also affects all the people around
those who smoke because when people smoke in pubic the smoke travels everywhere through the air,
and the negative effects of this smoke affects all living, breathing creatures. Therefore smoking should
be banned in all public places.
People who smoke in public portray a bad example. Children are easily influenced in their growing
stages. They imitate the people around them because they cannot differentiate between right and
wrong. Therefore they perceive the actions they see around them as the way things should be. Besides
that, teenagers who see people smoke in public take it as precedent to start smoking as well. There is a
saying that goes monkey see monkey do, which tells us that people imitate the actions of others as
they see it in their daily lives. Teenagers happen to think that smoking makes a person cool. When
they see adults doing it on the streets it strengthens their belief in the coolness of smoking. Some
teenagers think that smoking marks their transition into

Parent and Child Relationships of Oedipus Rex and Live Alone
In society, the sense of family is one of the core values in life. One of the most common relationships
in a family is that of the parent and child. Throughout history, playwrights have composed pieces
containing the impressionable relationship of a parent and a child. Sophocles and Deborah Salem
Smith effectively use the strained relationships of Oedipus and Jocasta, and Helen Warren and
Clementine to develop their plays Oedipus Rex and Love Alone. While both plays contain parent and
child relationships, the type of relationship proves to be radically different. In Oedipus Rex, Jocasta
serves as the Queen of Thebes and Oedipus is an abandoned son of Jocasta and current king of
Thebes. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus, happily married to Jocasta, has several children with
the Queen. Jocasta s first husband was King Laius, and together they gave birth to Oedipus. Jocasta
and Laius heard a devastating prophecy, which stated that their son was going to kill his father and
marry his mother. In order to avoid this prophecy, Jocasta and Laius bound Oedipus s ankles and left
him on a mountainside to die. Ironically, Jocasta and Oedipus relationship was doomed the second
Oedipus was born. In the play Love Alone, Susan, Helen Warren s partner and Clementine s biological
mother dies due to complications while under surgery. The death of Susan, causes Clementine s and
Helen s relationship to become closer than ever before, although at first it seems to be a little to close

on ethical leadership constructed by Lino and myself, we believe that Stalin was a very unethical
leader. According to his actions, it is clear, that Stalin failed in all aspects of our criteria. Born Iosef
Vassarionovich Dzugashvili, Stalin had no respect for human rights and made decisions that would
deliberately harm others, the appalling affect these decisions had and he did not promote or even

Stalin was an extremely unpeacful dictator who took things by force if necessary. Those who opposed
him were punishable by death. Stalin also used manipulation as a way of winning over followers.
Therefore it is clear through his actions that Stalin was a callous leader who did not welcome or
harbour peace.
Stalin, supreme dictator of the Soviet Union and Puppet Master of Eastern Europe, suffered a fatal
stroke, while lying alone in his room. All because his Bodyguards, family and government associate,
after 27 years of Iron Fisted rule, were to afraid to knock on the door. Josef Stalin was a vicious, cruel
man and an unethical leader. This is shown through his lack of respect for human rights. A man who
found pleasure in ordering the torture and execution of his most loyal followers. At least 30 million
and possibly as much as 60 million were; shot, hung, starved, beaten, drugged to death as a result of
his extreme fear of opposition. This lack of respect for human rights that shows his unethical
behaviour resulted in millions of people living in a regime of fear. In fact, Stalin was so immoral and
unethical that, when Vladimir Lenin died, he invented methods of elimination, in order to eradicate his
number one rival Leon Trotsky. This technique consisted of: Imprisonment, exile and assassination.
He finally succeeded, and sent Trotsky to Mexico. Stalin was a man who suffered

My Writing Portfolio
Writing Portfolio Reflection Over the course of the last four months, I have developed numerous
writing skills each week from our classes daily Khan Academy lessons, and I have learned new, strong
verbs to incorporate into my english papers. I have also recognized who I am as a writer and what my
securities are as an author. My experience thus far in Mrs. Lahiti s language arts course has been very
successful for I have grown as an author. In this reflective essay I will explain my strengths and
weaknesses as an english writer, and give textual backup to prove how I have grown. I would consider
myself a good writer, but getting thoughts from my head to paper has always been a difficult and long
process for me. So when given an in class essay assignment, such as the identity of Marjane Satrapi, it
s likely not my best work. In the Persepolis essay, I misspelled a couple of easy words such as
rebelled, against, and toward. I always feel rushed when given a timed assignment and suffer the
consequences of making a few too many stupid mistakes. I have also struggled with thesis statements.
For example, in the same Persepolis essay my thesis statement was Marji was daring. The problem
with this sentence is that I didn t elaborate the three main traits of Marji s identity, I only named one. I

overcame in the last couple years. I used the five senses to embellish more details of taste, smell,

The Theme Of Death In Shute s On The Beach
Death is an idea that everyone must wrestle with at one point in their life, whether it be a quickly
approaching doom or a peaceful end sixty years down the line. In Shute s On the Beach, each
character s individual arch in the novel take separate paths but are all headed towards the same place:
death. In response to the extreme scenario they are thrown into, that climax will come much sooner
than any of them intended and many are left wondering if they are ready to meet their end. What each
one of them decide to do along the way in order to make their lives end on a positive note relates to
how they choose to approach death. The theme deals with the way they react to their death, and what
each distinct reaction does for them whether it be comfort, distraction, or enjoyment.
Being that no one can simply escape death, seeking comfort in it, or even welcoming it is a tempting
idea that many might juggle with when meeting their end. Peter Holmes is a character in the novel
with an ideal much in line with that goal: finding comfort in his doom and accepting his death.
However, that may only be scraping the surface in relation to his true beliefs and motives. He knows a
great deal more about the impending threat than his wife Mary because she lives a life sheltered from
realities, living in a sentimental dream world of her own (Shute 127). He carefully tries to bring her to
the same realization he had already accepted and chooses his words selectively saying We re all going
to get it. Every living thing. Dogs and cats and babies everyone, (Shute 125). He even implies that
their infant daughter is involved. Peter, having been serving in the Australian Navy for years, is a
strong willed man able to face the truth and protect his family from it. For that reason, he takes it upon
himself to make it easier on them and attempts to put a positive spin on the terrible truth. Simply put,
he welcomes his and his family s death in order to assure his wife that everything will be ok. Despite
his love for the sea and the relaxation it brings him, he asks Commander Towers Will the ship be at
sea for much of that time, sir? Things aren t too easy now, compared with what they used to be, and it
s a bit difficult at

Summary Of The Middle Class In Madame Bovary
The middle class in France during the early 1800s, otherwise known as the Bourgeoisie, was defined
by capitalistic views and business minded outlooks. However, many people of this era, including
author Gustave Flaubert, were highly critical of this middle class. In Flaubert s novel Madame Bovary,
the character Homais represents the ideas and spirit of the Bourgeoisie. Because of his dissatisfaction
with the middle class, the author gives Homais several negative character traits, such as selfishness,
cowardice, and hypocrisy. Flaubert s criticism of the egotistical and corrupt nature of Homais is
evident during the procedure on Hippolyte and the argument between Homais and the priest; Homais
triumph at the end of the novel suggests that Flaubert is also critical of the outcome of the pharmacist
s actions, not just the actions themselves.
Flaubert establishes Homais cowardice when he refuses to take responsibility for the failed operation
on Hippolyte. Charles originally does not want to take part in this procedure, but Homais urges him to
do so. After the operation is deemed a failure, Monsieur Canivet criticizes Charles to Homais when he
says, But some doctors want to be smart, so they use all sorts of remedies on their patients without
worrying about the consequences... and, ...we wouldn t dream of operating on someone who s in
perfect health! (Flaubert 157). Even though Homais knows that he pressured Charles into performing
this operation, he does not say anything to Canivet that expresses his partial responsibility. Flaubert
writes, He therefore did not defend Bovary or make any comment at all; abandoning his principles, he
sacrificed his pride to the more serious interests of his business (157). Therefore, Flaubert criticizes
the spineless nature of Homais by emphasizing his lack of response to Canivet s insults. The author
reveals Homais character trait of irresponsibility in this scene, suggesting that Flaubert views the
Bourgeoisie as cowardly. Homais and the middle class, in the mind of Flaubert, are too craven to be
held accountable for any action that would hurt their reputations.
In addition to demonstrating Homais cowardly nature, the operation scene also serves to reveal his

Little Women Be Banned
Jo March is a spirited girl who cares a lot about her family. Her older sister Margaret Meg March is a
feminine girl who loves the idea of luxury and family. Their younger sister Beth is a shy, sweet
natured girl who loves music; and their youngest sister Amy is an artistic girl who only wants to climb
higher. Now tell me, how can a story about these four girls maturing into wonderful women be
challenged or banned?
Louisa May Alcott s Little Women is by far the best novel about growing up I have ever read in my
entire years of existence. It shows you a heartbreaking tale of four sisters who love and care greatly
about each other. It shows how you don t have to be rich to be happy, or how important family is right

Influence Of Organizational Culture On Corporate Performance
support the proposition that organizational culture is found to be a filter through which leadership
influences various performance outcomes.
Human Resource Management Organizational culture affects corporate performance. Corporate
culture is a deeply embedded form of social control that influences employee decisions and behavior.
Culture is persistent and operates unintentionally. It is an automatic pilot directing employees in ways
that are consistent with organizational expectations. Corporate culture assists the sense making

Human Resource requires administrator to compare job titles, skill levels together with the culture of
work and remuneration to determine the contributions employees with different jobs and titles make
towards accomplishing company objectives. Human resources management considers internal
consistency when determining pay rates for employees who do the same work and employees who do
different works in accordance with the culture on ground in the organization. The internal consistency
depends on how a company is structures reflect the structure and culture of the organization. The pay
structure of an organization is its range of pay rates for different jobs and skill levels within the
organization (Barney, 1986). Company s culture factors are social customs, job requirements,
employee acceptance, employee knowledge and skills. The social customs of an organization do not
determine wages only but the current notion of federally mandated minimum which evolve from the
employee demanding a just wage which always go with the remuneration culture of the organization.
The organizational culture has a positive relationship with the human resource management. However,
the job requirements factors determines some jobs may require greater skills, knowledge or experience

Cultural Differences Between Body Language, Communication...
As professional caregivers, nurses are required to communicate with patients to assess, diagnose and
provide interventions that result in desirable outcomes. An ever changing cultural and spiritual
population is a hallmark of the US identity since its inception two and a half centuries ago. This poses
a challenge for nurses who must be able to quickly and accurately identify client needs and provide
appropriate care. Language differences are a natural barrier to communication, as are cultural
differences in body language, communication styles and cultural beliefs. People whose culture differs
from the nurse may have different views about overall health and well being, choices for
interventions, responses to pain and opinions about death and life prolonging care. Nurses must be
open to differences in cultural beliefs and educate themselves about the diversity in their area to best
meet the needs of the community.
It is important, however, that a well intentioned desire to achieve cultural competence does not result
in oversimplification and stereotyping. There is variation within cultural groups and uniqueness to
individual experiences that must also be considered. Nurses must aspire to respect differences in
culture and treat patients in a manner that instills trust. The American Nurses Association developed a
set of standards of practice for culturally competent nursing to ensure that all patients specific needs
are addressed, as well as ensuring equity in the workplace

In the film Shawshank Redemption we learn about a man who is an educated, professional banker by
trade, who finds himself in a situation in which he chooses to secretly follow his beautiful wife
knowing she is having an affair with the golf pro who works at their country club. One evening, Andy,
the banker, decides to bring a gun along with him as he follows his wife and the golf pro. He stops at a
couple of bars and proceeds to become inebriated. Andy is clearly a man whom by all means would be
considered a respectable person in society and follows the particular norms of that time until he begins
to make choices to differentiate himself from the folkways and mores of any expectations regarding
the laws that had been established for the purpose of structure, order and conformity. By all accounts
we see Andy s character reflecting certain choices of conformity in which he clearly represents
behavior and appearance that follows and maintains a particular standard and acceptance of a group.
As we learn further in the story we must also consider the factors of behavior that reflects deviance.
This behavior challenges the norms. Andy has been convicted of violating the norms of everyday life
by murdering his wife and her lover and he is arrested for the murder. Although in Andy s court
preceding he pled innocence and expressed to the judge that he had not murdered his wife and her
lover, maintaining the story that he had sobered himself up and then

Essay about Exposing the Hoax of www.DHMO.org
Information literacy is an important skill, and unfortunately one that many people lack. Recently, I
evaluated the website www.DHMO.org. Although most of the information available on the website
has merit, it was created as a hoax to bring light to the subject of information literacy in todays
society. My evaluation of the website will prove that the website masks itself as a reputable source of
information, but by researching the website itself, it becomes evident that it is in fact nothing more
than a hoax. According to the criteria for evaluating a website set forth by the University of California
Berkeley, the URL makes this website appear legitimate. There are no indicators that the website is
published by an outside source. It also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although most of the information available may be true, there are other indicators that the website
may not have the most reliable information. There are no footnotes contained on any of the webpages,
nor are there links to reliable sources of information. In fact, nearly all of the links on the site will
redirect you to another page under the same domain. This, to me, is a good indicator that there are no
other sources to justify that the information contained are from a quality source. One link on the site s
main page that I found particularly deceptive was the US Environmental Assessment Center logo. A
google.com search of the name resulted in a top hit for the US Environmental Protection Agency s US
Environmental Assessment Center. Upon closer examination, I realized the logo s for the USEPA and
the logo for the US Environmental Assessment Center on the DHMO.org website were very similar,
but not the same. Lastly, and most importantly, when I first started reading the information on
DHMO.org I wasn t even sure what dihydrogen monoxide was. However, a search of the name turned
up a newspaper article that told of a California town that had attempted to pass legislature after
hearing about the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide (Wan, 2004). Luckily, the city council discovered
that the term

Social Aspect Of Reconstruction Essay
Finally, the social aspect of Reconstruction created problems such as violence and unbalance between
African American and southern Confederates. Black rights and freedoms upset many white
southerners who had ordered slaves around for years and caused retaliation from former Confederates.
Violent hate groups began to form such as the Knights of the White Camelia, or the more well known
Ku Klux Klan (Jackson n.p). These organizations sought to maintain white supremacy by suppressing
blacks and government officials in favor of black rights. Methods of lynching, hanging, attacks on
public jailing systems, and other forms of violence spread through the South (History.com n.p).

Ideally, a solution to the problems of Reconstruction would eradicate all forms of brutality, but land
redistribution would only further agitate the South. My proposal, though radical, would give white
southerners what they truly wanted all along: more say in the government. Under Lincoln s leadership,
the South felt its voice in government slowly dwindling away. What if the North could give
southerners more sway over northern politics? My plan would impose a law against the individual
profit of northern carpetbaggers in the South. It would also allow the South to build a sort of embassy
in the North as its own form of representation in government, under one condition. In return,
southerners must allow for the aforementioned government run labor camps to function peacefully in
the South. Additionally, each state must accept the five year supervision of a small group of law
enforcement officers trained to maintain racially violent situations. Considering the circumstances,
both the former Confederates and African Americans have a fairly decent deal under my plan. All
white southerners become pardoned, states rejoin the union, no one hangs for treason, carpetbagging
becomes illegal, labor camps repair damaged areas in the South, and southerners reestablish their

Global Public Policy Is Made By State And Non State Actors Global public issues such as global climate change, international financial market, illicit international trade, cross border migration, internet governance and cyber war, nuclear proliferation, global public drug and etc cause a need of global public policy. Basically global public policy has been designed in order to achieve desired goals in global public challenges. Global public policy is made by state and non state actors. In classical political science only the states were recognized as a significant actors in public policy and international policies were made between states( Wimmer and Schiller,2002), while in the recent decades non state actors play important role in global governance(Whitman, 2009,87). For instance, UN, UNDP, UNIDO are central in the global public sphere (Kaul 2003). Global public policy activities take place among non state actors and intergovernmental counterpart in global agora (Stone, 2008, 5 8).Global public policy needs to be made in global agora. Previously, global agora was a place for social, economical, political and cultural interaction of states and non states members. However, today global agora is evolving with various set of networks , global public and private partnership and multilateral initiatives global agora is managed by business and policy elites(Stone, 2008, 10). The pilates roll ups targets and strengthens the abdominal muscles and spine. It also tones the buttocks, lower back and hips. I am choosing an exercise that targets core strength because I have Crohn s Disease and this affects my core. I want to build core muscle and this will help my digestive system. My fitness test in one of my first pilates classes showed I have a weak core because I had a difficult time doing the Hundreds exercise and roll ups. The first point, holding a plank is an activity I may do every morning before going to school. Before eating breakfast or getting ready, I can awaken myself up and challenge myself by doing a plank on a pilates mat beside my bed. Second, the roll ups exercise may be done very easily in my bedroom on my mat before going to bed. Whereas, performing crunches every second day gives me time to recover from my previous workout and still progress with myself to attain my goal. I either have time in the morning or at night and my action plan incorporates both times. The only resource this action plan requires is a pilates mat and I will use my mother s mat at home and I already have a treadmill in my basement. Timely Goal: Today, it is Friday October 23, 2015 that I am creating my goal for an exercise in pilates. I will have class on Monday October 26, 2015 in which I will be able to work on my roll ups. Considering the two hour pilates class I have every Monday and the measures I am aiming to take outside of class, I am hoping to achieve my target in two weeks from now. • 4. Night Of The Living Dead Essay In 1968, in a cemetery about 30 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh, a movie that would change cinematic history forever was being created. George Romero s classic film Night of the Living Dead, was being filmed. Up until 1968, the word zombie had a completely different meaning than it does today. George A. Romero created the horror movie antagonist that many audiences know and fear. The Pre Romero zombie has many notable differences from the modern zombie. Most notably, it is alive and simply under a voodoo curse. These zombies did not crave flesh or brains, and there were no large scale outbreaks. Night of the Living Dead changed this all, and paved the way for the zombie to evolve into what it is today. Although it seems laughable to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than following a single path, as it had in the past, modern zombie evolution has branched out like roots on a tree. According to Kevin Boon there are currently 9 major classifications of zombies ...Zombie Drones, Zombie Ghouls, Bio Zombies, Cultural; Zombies, Zombie Ghosts, and Zombie Ruses. These many classifications show how the progression of the zombie has become more than just one thing. The plots of movies have changed along with the types of zombies. Rather than just a small outbreak, that are often full scale zombie apocalypses. These large scale outbreaks are caused by many things, such as a cure for cancer in the 2007 thriller I am Legend, or government experimentation, such as in the 2002 Sci Fi flick 28 Days Later. The Zombie has also gone on to attain speed, strength, and intelligence, making it a much bigger threat than before. Imagine the difference between coming across a voodoo zombie, which would be a bit unsettling at most, and coming across a modern zombie, which would likely mean inevitable death. As technology and special effects have advanced, so has the ability to create more and more terrifying versions of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because it was so close to the potential nomination of Hillary Clinton, Citizens United was barred from commercializing and airing their film. Upset with this apparent disregard for the First Amendment, the conservative non profit fought back against the courts, eventually take it to the Supreme Court. This Supreme court ruling was entitled Citizens United v. FEC . Citizens United attempted to show how free speech shouldn t be limited for companies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You need money to run a campaign, and each federal election will eventually come down to who contributed the most money. The Service Employees International Union denounced the decision saying, Today the US Supreme Court lifted the floodgates and started dismantling century old restrictions on corporate electoral activiy in the name of the free speech rights of corporations meaning if you a corporate person , you are now free to hit the corporate ATM and spend whatever of your shareholders money it takes to elect the candidates of your choice. However, money doesn t buy elections. This couldn t have been made anymore evident by the 2016 election. (campaignfreedom.org, opensecrets, org) Clinton raised 687.3 million dollars to fund her campaign, while Trump raised a mere 306.9 million dollars. Not only that, ads for Clinton were triple the amount of ads for Trump. And most importantly, the three biggest super PACS (making a whopping one fourth of total campaign contributions), all supported losing candidates. This election made it clear that money is less important than the person. People didn t vote for Hillary because of her emails and her corruptness, while people voted for Donald because we wasn t politically correct and desired change. • 6. Nimrud Research Paper The remains of the city, Nimrud, tell many stories about itself throughout its lifespan. Even though most of the remains left today were destroyed by an Islamic terrorist group, we can still replicate, through the architecture, the lives of the Nimrud people. Through the statues built and the reliefs on the walls we can determine the everyday lives, wars, and divinity that the people of Nimrud lived among. Sir Layard was the first to head an excavation team at Nimrud. He choose this site considering his earlier travels near Nimrud. One of his major find was the sculpture of the King Ashurnasirpal II. From the expedition were two colossal winged lions, which Layard insisted be kept intact, unlike similar lamassu from Khorsabad that had been cut into smaller sections for their transportation to the Louvre Museum. Layard moved his winged lions whole, much in the same way they had originally been transported to Nimrud in antiquity. His findings were shipped to The British Museum where they became the centerpiece of their art. 1 This sentence from his book shows how much he wanted to preserve the art and architecture of Nimrud. Skye [Sp] Jones is his name, and he is an abusive man who has no respect for Delia. Being married for fifteen years seems to be a lot for Delia, considering that she has only loved Skyes [Sp] for a short time after they were married. Living a life of fear and helplessness allows the dominant figure of that person s life to continue to have total control until the fall of that dominant figure. The theme of the story [This theme] can be supported by characterization, symbols, and setting. 2 Delia Jones is a Negro woman who washes clothes for the white folks in her community. Skyes is trying to make himself out to be a respectable loving man, and he wants Bertha to believe that he has power. The only power that he has is when it involves controlling his wife. 3 Delia Jones is petrified of snakes, and Skyes really has no problem with them. [Poor topic sentence: if this paragraph is about symbolism, the word symbol (or symbolism ) should appear in the topic sentence.] One day when Skyes came home with Delia s horse and wagon, he threw his whip at her. Delia thought that it was a snake at first, and she was quite frightened. The whip is definitely a sign of dominance, and control. [Good point] This scene takes place at the beginning of the story; therefore we get a better understanding of the dominant figure right away. Another symbol in the story is the laundry that Delia does. Skyes has yelled at her several times to stop washing the white folk s laundry, but she continues to do so. This could be a way for Delia to get back at Skyes for all the misery that she has gone through. Delia also starts on the laundry Sunday s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Characteristics Of A Detective Fiction Detective Fiction Essay A detective fiction is a literary genre in form of a short story or novel that deals with crimes, usually murder and detectives are involved to seek out justice for the victims. The detectives involved in detective fictions can either be private, amateur, or police detectives. There are also other characters like the suspects and the side kicks. An amateur detective is a detective who has no license to operate as a private investigator neither is he/she a member of the police force. These detectives have a different profession, but are not trained in criminal investigation. They have a passion in crime and delivering justice to the society. On the other hand, a private detective also known as hard boiled is a male or female detective trained in criminal investigation. Dealing with crime is his/her profession, therefore, has good physical attributes and uses the gun efficiently. The two detectives differ in two ways; first, they differ in financial status, secondly they differ on how they use violence in their investigations. Another example is the short story Trouble is My Business by Phillip Marlowe. This story presents a needy private detective. The story is about Alex Haley s ancestors, tracing all the way to Africa. It starts with a teenage boy, Kunta Kinte, who was born in Gambia in West Africa. When Kunta is looking for some wood to make a drum, he gets captured and that is when the long adventure begins. There were three really eye opening lessons I learned about slavery: the boat ride to American was painful and most did not survive, slaves were not allowed to read or write, and after the Civil War and slaves were free, they were still treated badly and still not considered equal. First, coming to America on the slave ship was an awful ordeal. When Captain Thomas Davies saw the slave ship blueprints, the horrors started to sink in. The slaves were chained up and squeezed in tight for maximum profit. They were put under the deck and got sea sick alot. Workers on the ship would also rape the female slaves for pleasure. • 17. Social Contradictions Of Poverty Poverty does not solely pertain to individuals without the money to sustain themselves. Rather, poverty refers to the conditions of individuals or groups of people who only possess limited means to have and raise their children, care for their loved ones, maintain households, or contribute to their communities. In Contradictions of Capital and Care, Nancy Fraser identifies these social needs as the key capacities of social reproduction that are necessary for culture, political organization, and the creation of self expanding value via economic production. Individuals lose these social capacities due to the contradiction between economic production and social reproduction that is inherent in capitalism; once these capacities are lost, individuals remain stuck in the cycle of poverty because of their limited abilities within the existing societal structures and hierarchies that subjugate them. The only way to significantly reduce and eventually end poverty is thus to restructure society, so that social reproduction and economic production are no longer contradictory and are recognized as inter dependent spheres. While poverty has numerous causes that create and reinforce it, the central cause of poverty is the contradiction between social reproduction and economic production. In capitalist society, economic production outweighs social reproduction, simply because economic production brings in money, which is what gives individuals purchasing power and the ability to ... The Effect of Salt Solution Concentrations and Water On the Mass of Potatoes Research Question What happens to the mass of the diced potatoes when submerged in varying concentrations of salt solutions and water in 10 minute intervals? This experiment will compare the mass of the diced potatoes submerged in distilled water, 1% salt solution, 5% salt solution, and 10% salt solution respectively in 10 minute intervals. Background Information Potatoes first originated in South America and were later introduced to Europe by Spanish explorers. Now, potatoes have become an important staple food item to have in the kitchen. They are packed with more energy than any other vegetable. A potato is made of potassium, vitamin C, fiber, starch, water, and fat. The concentration of each component is as follows: 18% starch, 78% water, 2 5%protein, and 1% fat. Hypothesis If the concentration of the salt solution increases then, its mass will decrease. This is because water molecules move from a higher concentration to a lower concentration in a process called osmosis. Potatoes are made of mostly water and because of the salt solution concentration the water molecules in the potato will move out of it. The higher the concentration, the more water molecules move out of the potato. Variables The independent variable is the salt solution concentration. The dependant variable is the mass of the potato. The control variable is the distilled water. Control of Variables Another controlled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Why Should Smoking Be Banned In Public Essay The numbers of people who smoke have increase over the years. Although they are equipped with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It is a personal choice and a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking. It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should be allowed to smoke. However, smoking does not only affect the smoker negatively. It also affects all the people around those who smoke because when people smoke in pubic the smoke travels everywhere through the air, and the negative effects of this smoke affects all living, breathing creatures. Therefore smoking should be banned in all public places. People who smoke in public portray a bad example. Children are easily influenced in their growing stages. They imitate the people around them because they cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Therefore they perceive the actions they see around them as the way things should be. Besides that, teenagers who see people smoke in public take it as precedent to start smoking as well. There is a saying that goes monkey see monkey do, which tells us that people imitate the actions of others as they see it in their daily lives. One of the most common relationships in a family is that of the parent and child. Throughout history, playwrights have composed pieces containing the impressionable relationship of a parent and a child. Sophocles and Deborah Salem Smith effectively use the strained relationships of Oedipus and Jocasta, and Helen Warren and Clementine to develop their plays Oedipus Rex and Love Alone. While both plays contain parent and child relationships, the type of relationship proves to be radically different. In Oedipus Rex, Jocasta serves as the Queen of Thebes and Oedipus is an abandoned son of Jocasta and current king of Thebes. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus, happily married to Jocasta, has several children with the Queen. Jocasta s first husband was King Laius, and together they gave birth to Oedipus. Jocasta and Laius heard a devastating prophecy, which stated that their son was going to kill his father and marry his mother. In order to avoid this prophecy, Jocasta and Laius bound Oedipus s ankles and left him on a mountainside to die. Ironically, Jocasta and Oedipus relationship was doomed the second Oedipus was born. • 23. The Theme Of Death In Shute s On The Beach Death is an idea that everyone must wrestle with at one point in their life, whether it be a quickly approaching doom or a peaceful end sixty years down the line. In Shute s On the Beach, each character s individual arch in the novel take separate paths but are all headed towards the same place: death. In response to the extreme scenario they are thrown into, that climax will come much sooner than any of them intended and many are left wondering if they are ready to meet their end. What each one of them decide to do along the way in order to make their lives end on a positive note relates to how they choose to approach death. The theme deals with the way they react to their death, and what each distinct reaction does for them whether it be comfort, distraction, or enjoyment. Being that no one can simply escape death, seeking comfort in it, or even welcoming it is a tempting idea that many might juggle with when meeting their end. Peter Holmes is a character in the novel with an ideal much in line with that goal: finding comfort in his doom and accepting his death. However, that may only be scraping the surface in relation to his true beliefs and motives. He knows a great deal more about the impending threat than his wife Mary because she lives a life sheltered from realities, living in a sentimental dream world of her own (Shute 127). He carefully tries to bring her to the same realization he had already accepted and chooses his words selectively saying We re all going to get it. Every living thing. Dogs and cats and babies everyone, (Shute 125). He even implies that their infant daughter is involved. Peter, having been serving in the Australian Navy for years, is a strong willed man able to face the truth and protect his family from it. For that reason, he takes it upon himself to make it easier on them and attempts to put a positive spin on the terrible truth. Simply put, he welcomes his and his family s death in order to assure his wife that everything will be ok. • 24. Summary Of The Middle Class In Madame Bovary The middle class in France during the early 1800s, otherwise known as the Bourgeoisie, was defined by capitalistic views and business minded outlooks. However, many people of this era, including author Gustave Flaubert, were highly critical of this middle class. In Flaubert s novel Madame Bovary, the character Homais represents the ideas and spirit of the Bourgeoisie. Because of his dissatisfaction with the middle class, the author gives Homais several negative character traits, such as selfishness, cowardice, and hypocrisy. Flaubert s criticism of the egotistical and corrupt nature of Homais is evident during the procedure on Hippolyte and the argument between Homais and the priest; Homais triumph at the end of the novel suggests that Flaubert is also critical of the outcome of the pharmacist s actions, not just the actions themselves. Flaubert establishes Homais cowardice when he refuses to take responsibility for the failed operation on Hippolyte. Charles originally does not want to take part in this procedure, but Homais urges him to do so. After the operation is deemed a failure, Monsieur Canivet criticizes Charles to Homais when he says, But some doctors want to be smart, so they use all sorts of remedies on their patients without worrying about the consequences... and, ...we wouldn t dream of operating on someone who s in perfect health! (Flaubert 157). Even though Homais knows that he pressured Charles into performing this operation, he does not say anything to Canivet that expresses his partial responsibility. Flaubert writes, He therefore did not defend Bovary or make any comment at all; abandoning his principles, he sacrificed his pride to the more serious interests of his business (157). Therefore, Flaubert criticizes the spineless nature of Homais by emphasizing his lack of response to Canivet s insults. The author reveals Homais character trait of irresponsibility in this scene, suggesting that Flaubert views the Bourgeoisie as cowardly. Homais and the middle class, in the mind of Flaubert, are too craven to be held accountable for any action that would hurt their reputations. In addition to demonstrating Homais cowardly nature, the operation scene also serves to reveal his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As professional caregivers, nurses are required to communicate with patients to assess, diagnose and provide interventions that result in desirable outcomes. An ever changing cultural and spiritual population is a hallmark of the US identity since its inception two and a half centuries ago. This poses a challenge for nurses who must be able to quickly and accurately identify client needs and provide appropriate care. Language differences are a natural barrier to communication, as are cultural differences in body language, communication styles and cultural beliefs. People whose culture differs from the nurse may have different views about overall health and well being, choices for interventions, responses to pain and opinions about death and life prolonging care. Nurses must be open to differences in cultural beliefs and educate themselves about the diversity in their area to best meet the needs of the community. It is important, however, that a well intentioned desire to achieve cultural competence does not result in oversimplification and stereotyping. There is variation within cultural groups and uniqueness to individual experiences that must also be considered. Nurses must aspire to respect differences in culture and treat patients in a manner that instills trust. A google.com search of the name resulted in a top hit for the US Environmental Protection Agency s US Environmental Assessment Center. Upon closer examination, I realized the logo s for the USEPA and the logo for the US Environmental Assessment Center on the DHMO.org website were very similar, but not the same. Lastly, and most importantly, when I first started reading the information on DHMO.org I wasn t even sure what dihydrogen monoxide was. However, a search of the name turned up a newspaper article that told of a California town that had attempted to pass legislature after hearing about the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide (Wan, 2004). Luckily, the city council discovered that the term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Social Aspect Of Reconstruction Essay Finally, the social aspect of Reconstruction created problems such as violence and unbalance between African American and southern Confederates. Black rights and freedoms upset many white southerners who had ordered slaves around for years and caused retaliation from former Confederates. Violent hate groups began to form such as the Knights of the White Camelia, or the more well known Ku Klux Klan (Jackson n.p). These organizations sought to maintain white supremacy by suppressing blacks and government officials in favor of black rights. Methods of lynching, hanging, attacks on public jailing systems, and other forms of violence spread through the South (History.com n.p). Perhaps some consider land redistribution an effective solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ideally, a solution to the problems of Reconstruction would eradicate all forms of brutality, but land redistribution would only further agitate the South. My proposal, though radical, would give white southerners what they truly wanted all along: more say in the government. Under Lincoln s leadership, the South felt its voice in government slowly dwindling away. What if the North could give southerners more sway over northern politics? My plan would impose a law against the individual profit of northern carpetbaggers in the South. It would also allow the South to build a sort of embassy in the North as its own form of representation in government, under one condition. In return, southerners must allow for the aforementioned government run labor camps to function peacefully in the South. Additionally, each state must accept the five year supervision of a small group of law enforcement officers trained to maintain racially violent situations. Considering the circumstances, both the former Confederates and African Americans have a fairly decent deal under my plan. All white southerners become pardoned, states rejoin the union, no one hangs for treason, carpetbagging becomes illegal, labor camps repair damaged areas in the South, and southerners reestablish their ...
