Past, Present, Future
Abstract
This past, present and future paper will reflect on my personal and professional growth during the time
frame that I was a student at the University of Phoenix. One of the themes that are explored in this
paper is that education is a lifetime pursuit. Another theme is what I am taking away from the
institution now that I have completed my course of study. Finally the paper sets future career and
personal goals to continue my lifetime of learning.
Past Present and Future
Past
I have always valued education, and have a great yearning for knowledge. Prior to attending the
University of Phoenix I had attended Oral Roberts University, majoring in Management Information
Systems, for three years. My studies at Oral Roberts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My written work has gotten better and I have sharpened some of my information retrieval and
utilization skills.
The two general education courses taken during my course of study that have had the greatest impact
on my current and potential employment are Skills for Professional Development and Critical
Thinking and Computer Logic. I chose these courses because that helped to develop skills and tactics
that will help me to be a better employee to future employers as well helped me develop personally as
well.
I chose the Skills for Professional Learning class because it taught the concepts of team learning and
team problem solving. The most important thing that I learned in this course is what is referred to as
the 4P Meeting Management Model by the authors of the book Tools for Teams. This model teaches
that a successful team meeting consists of a defined purpose, the right participants, a plan and a
defined process.
I chose the Critical Thinking class because it was the first class I ever had that really defined and
elaborated on what critical thinking is. Critical thinking is the subconscious process that we go
through to solve problems, we can however teach ourselves to be better critical thinkers. In Keys to
Success the authors basically say that critical thinking deals with asking questions, considering
without judgment as many response as you can, and choosing responses that are as complete and
accurate as possible .

The Dust Bowl Of Tarrant County College
Tarrant County College has a traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl that is sponsored by Ohio State
Library, American Library Association, Mount Holyoke, and the National Endowment for the
Humanities. This traveling exhibit is in a decent location, has a great display, and gives out a lot of
information about the Dust Bowl. This traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl is located in the Tarrant
County College Southeast Campus library in Arlington, Texas. It is located off of Highway 360. The
exhibit is located in the library in the main building on the first floor. When one walks into the library
they would walk past the front desk as if they were going to the back of the library. After the front
desk they would pass the computers and behind the computers is where the exhibit is. The exhibit
about the Dust Bowl is in a good location because it is in the library where most students go daily. The
location can also be considered a bad location because it is not easily seen from the door and one has
to be looking for it to find it. The exhibit should be advertised to let more people know about it and
tell them what it is near in the library. The traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl has twelve different
displays. Ten of the displays are set up in a circular formation with numbers on the bottom. On each of
these displays there are pictures and information on the front and back of them. All of the front side of
the displays are facing the inside of the circle and are numbered one

Arguments Against Codified Constitution
A constitution can be defined as A set of rules that seek to establish the duties, powers and functions of
the various institutions of government; regulate the relationship between and among the institutions;
and define the relationship between the state and the individual, (Winrow, n.d.) Marking the
approaching 800th anniversary of Britain s famous Magna Carta, Graham Allen MP has put forward a
proposition about how Britain should reconsider its un codified constitution. He states:
At the beginning of the 2010 Parliament, we felt that the time was right to engage the public in a
comprehensive evaluation of the United Kingdom s democratic arrangements, culminating in this
consultation which runs into the year that we will celebrate 800 ... Show more content on

Many codified constitution supporters fail to take into account the overall rigidity of a codified
constitution, a problem that has caused numerous problems for countries around the world (PaCRC,
2014, pp. 24 26). Most predominantly is the classic, yet potent example of the USA and their gun
laws. There has been an on going debate about whether gun laws should be restricted due to their
position on the constitution. The argument of many anti gun restrictions, such as the National Rifle
Association (NRA) and the Gun Owners of America (GOA), is that the right to bear arms, stated under
the second amendment of the US constitution as The right of the people to keep and bear arms should
not be infringed , outlines the fundamental right for law abiding American citizens to legally own a
firearm, and therefore should not be contested as it forms part of the key liberties of an American
citizen. Although, in recent years, the USA has seen numerous public shooting sprees, most
predominantly the Columbine shootings of 1999, Sandy Hook shootings of 2012 in Connecticut and
Virginia Tech killings of 2007. This has called into question the compatibility of the second
amendment with modern day society. It is clear that there needs to be some form of restriction on the
possession of guns in the US, yet due to the nature of the codified constitution in place, this is
extremely difficult to alter, highlighting the rigidity of codified constitutions and the lack of flexibility
to update legislation in sync with an ever changing

Comparing What s Eating Gilbert Grape, And Shawshank Red
The three movies What s Eating Gilbert Grape, Of Mice and Men, and Shawshank Redemption all
have separate themes and ideas that revolve around particular characters. However, one clear intention
that all of the following movies are trying to send across, is to be generally a better person. Gilberts
mom, Lennie, and Brooks are all characters that struggle in some way and also all end dejectedly bad.
These problems that the characters face could have all been resolved in a solemn manner if people did
not judge others by their appearance but by their morals, if people were there for each other even if
they re frustrated by them, finally if they did not jump to rash decisions and not give up. To start with,
society has been rather harsh on those who are obese , whether that be magazines ,tv shows and so on.

Organic Extraction Distillation Process With Abe Extraction
ABSTRACT
Conventionally, Butanol is made with the Acetone Butanol Ethanol process using Clostridium species
to ferment sugars from biomass. Conversely, the route is linked with some shortcomings such as low
butanol yield and by product formation (acetone and ethanol). The low productivities and butanol
yields of ABE batch fermentation can be increased by continuous fermentation with cell recycle and
integrated product removal. In order to facilitate an effective and energy efficient product removal, we
suggest to apply a hybrid extraction distillation process with ABE extraction in an external column.
INTRODUCTION
Butanol (ethyl alcohol) is a four carbon alcohol which has been mainly used as a solvent, chemical
intermediate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The total ABE titer is 15 18 g/L with 10 13 g/L butanol. ABE fermentation by Clostridia usually has
two phases, acidogenesis and solventogenesis (Lee et al., 2008). In the acidogenesis phase, glucose or
other sugars are converted into acids such as acetate acid and butyrate acid, which leads to rapid
decrease in pH. Under certain critical pH, Clostridia shifts to the solventogenesis phase during which
it consumes acids to produce solvents (acetone, ethanol and butanol). The most important factor that
triggers the shift from acidogenesis to solventogenesis is external and internal pHs. Some
metabolically engineered Clostridia do not have this shift mechanism .
As a fuel, butanol can be used in pure form or blended in gasoline in any concentration unlike ethanol
that can be blended only up to 85%; however, a higher blend would necessitate motor engine
modification . In addition, the energy content of butanol being 29.2 MJ/L is 30% higher than that of
ethanol (21.2 MJ/L) and much closer to gasoline (32.5 MJ/L). Also, butanol s low vapor pressure,
hydroscopic nature, less volatility and less flammability facilitates its blending and supply in existing
gasoline channels and pipelines.

The Blue Collar Guys Essay
The Blue Collar Guy
There is a Chinese proverb that says, Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those
doing it. Steve Olson wrote an essay that talks about that very principle. He titled his essay Year of the
Blue Collar Guys . It is about the hard working blue collar guys (BCGs) living in America, but what
was his purpose in writing about BCGs? What kind of modes of persuasion does he use to persuade
his audience to his way of thinking? How does he respond to the opposing side of his argument, and
what kind of logical fallacies does he use?
First and foremost, what is Olson s purpose in Writing Year of the blue collar guy? His purpose is to
convince the working class of America to show recognition to the BCGs. ... Show more content on

He uses humor to allow his audience to see just how ridiculous yet still amazing BCGs are. For
example, Olson says, These talkers, are the guys we drove from the playgrounds into the libraries
when we were young and now for twenty years or more now we have endured the revenge of the
nerds . (Paragraph four) Though this statement may not be completely accurate, Olson wrote it in a
way that would seem humorous to most of his audience and, still have a hint of legitimacy behind it.
Olson s use of pathos wasn t as effective towards his overall goal of showing Americans how critical
BCGs are. Though he still got his point across, he could have been more convincing if he used a more
logical approach by simply stating the accomplishments that BCGs have done in comparison to white
collar guys would have been a more convincing argument than forming it into a humorous comment.
To any perspective on life, there is always an opposing side, and the opposing side Olson brings up in
his essay is that BCGs are not sophisticated enough to receive the kind of recognition they want. He
states that BCGs have been portrayed as beer drinking, big bellied, bigoted, rednecks who dress badly
. (Paragraph 1) Most people would respond by shooting insults back towards whoever said that. Olson
chooses another approach, surprisingly, he agrees with them. He takes what they say and laughs at it.
After he brings up these insults, Olson continues by saying,

Descriptive Essay On Going Down Hills
The sun was playing hide and seek with the moon, the moon was seeking. The trees standing
motionless with their fingertips covered in baking sugar. As my eyes broke the horizon of the hill I felt
something hit my feet, it was my stomach. Looking down the hill for 20 minutes I came to a
conclusion, I m screwed. As we sat there, the three of us, with our eyes crawling over the hill to look
down it once more, we got up. One by one. It was the first year my cousins and I had decided to go
snowboarding. Most of the guys had no real experience going down hills while glued to a frictionless
two by four. I was proud of the experience I had, a whole one inch of it. Going on a small practice
runway just to get the feel of riding before going up was what we all started off on. My butt had
became a close friend with the rock hard ground from all those unexpected meetings when the body
wouldn t feel like going the same direction as the board. Feeling confident from making a new friend
and wanting to go up some actual hills, we left the rest of the guys behind. I was one of the ones that
felt like we were ready for some new friend making grounds. Making our way to the line to get onto
the chair lift we all laughed as we knew that we were about to get hit with some reality. As the line
slowly evaporated in front of me, I could hear the screeching sound of the cables getting louder.
Simply just walking up the the lift and sitting down wasn t an option. I had to push off with one foot

Dreamers Of Religion
It s a warm Sunday morning coast to coast, as little boys and girls rush to the church that sits patiently
waiting for them to arrive. Their parents follow behind, walking just fast enough to keep up, but not so

arrive early in order to obtain their reserved spot only made so according to them. Whether the

churchgoers: the hypocrite, the seeker, and the day dreamer. The hypocrite goes to church as if they

The Garden Of Forking Paths, By Jorge Luis Borges
After reading the lecture and the short stores by Jorge Luis Borges, one can able to conclude that we
are surrounded by criminal activities. In every culture, region or country there are some sort of
criminal activities more over the same type of crimes that occurs. In Latin America the crime rates
were significantly high in the past and still continues in the 21st century. Each of these stories written
by the author Jorge Luis Borges carries some kind of connection in Latin America.
After reading the short story, The Garden of Forking Paths , we learn that Yu Tsun is a secret spy for

I can also say that this story can connect with most detectives regardless of culture or location. The
scenarios in which was described in the short story can connect to individuals who are investigators
who then eventually becomes the victims of their own work. For example, I ve heard factual
information where a detective has been killed by the perpetrator for investigating a crime. I believe
that this story deals with revenge of an officer. The perpetrator Scharlach wanted to get revenge for his
brother who was arrested by the detective and then later died in prison. From that, I was able to form
another conclusion. In Latin America, gang members usually look out for each other. With that said,
when one is hurt, killed, died, revenge sets into place.
After reading the short story, Borges and I , I was able to interpret a theme of identity. The plot
surprise is that the narrator discusses himself as if he is two separate persons: I and The other one, the
one called Borges. This can possible relates to Latin America violence to those who commits crime.
They can either defined themselves as two different persons for the purpose of self

Chain Of Command In The Military
The Chain of Command in the Military and 2nd and 3rd order effects.
The chain of command is defined as an official hierarchy of authority that dictates who is in charge of
whom and of whom permission must be asked.
There is a chain of command evident in multiple forms. There is a chain of command in households
with parental figures and family hierarchy, in every structured organization, within workplaces and
largely in the military.
The military chain of command is in place to provide the control and the communication necessary to
accomplish the mission. There are multiple levels of organizations and each level is responsible for a
lower level which are all accountable to each of the higher levels. There must be loyalty within the
chain to each level for the system to work properly. With devotion of loyalty to the hierarchy this can
be an extremely effective and efficient system for accomplishing tasks and keeping the chain of
command informed. The goal is to solve problems, and find answers at the lowest possible level,
issuing orders downward and receiving clarification and resolving problems upward.
When a mission is in place there is a team effort in the chain of command to accomplish those tasks
representing that mission. One example is when a state is ready to deploy, they receive a notification
of sourcing from National Guard Bureau. The task is brought to me by my chain of command. I begin
my process with notifying anyone in my immediate chain of command to

use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, and cigarettes are the
most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. adults (3). For the sake of saving life, some
universities have banned tobacco use on campus. The University of Nebraska Lincoln currently allows
smoking provided that the smoker is not within the prohibited areas 10 feet away from some buildings
and 25 feet from other buildings (4). The university is the only institution in the University of
Nebraska system that does not have a tobacco free policy. Other Nebraska institutions of higher
education including Creighton University, Bellevue University, Clarkson College, College of Saint

infertility is defined clinically as a disease of the reproductive system characterized by a failure to
achieve successful pregnancy after twelve months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.4
Reproduction either in vivo or in vitro is dependent on the presence of viable gametes (sperm and
ovum), a successful sperm to ovum interaction; fertilization and an effective implantation of the
fertilized ovum onto the endometrial wall of the uterus.3 In a study carried out in south western
Nigeria, the common causes of infertility were: tubal factor (39.5%), uterine factor (30%), and ovarian
factor (13%).5 Other causes included cervical factor (3%), pelvic inflammatory disease PID (5.5%),
and endometriosis (2.5%).5
In vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment offers the highest pregnancy rate irrespective of the cause of
infertility.6 The first successful IVF procedure was documented by Dr Edwards and Dr Steptoe in
1978, where ova and sperm were

Loss Of Innocence In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Norman Cousins, American journalist and peace activist, once said, The tragedy of life is not death but
what we let die inside of us while we live. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding,
the characters go through a loss of innocence which can be illustrated by the words of Norman
Cousins. Throughout the novel, the young boys are put in situations in which their innocence slowly
dwindles away by being revealed to the born hate inside of everyone. The characters loss of innocence
in Lord of the Flies is shown when Jack killed a pig for the first time, by the truth from the Lord of the
Flies, and the gradual death of the island itself. Jack killing a pig is a scene in the novel where
innocence is lost. After landing on the island, Jack went with the choir to find meat. He went up to
pigs twice before he could bring himself to kill one. On page 74, the author writes, The chant was
audible but at that distance still wordless. Behind Jack walked the twins, carrying a great stake on their
shoulders. The gutted carcass of a pig swung from the stake, swinging heavily as the twins toiled over
the uneven ground...Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood (Golding 74). This passage displays
how once Jack had slaughtered the pig, he showed his accomplishment to the boys and acted as if he
was powerful with his new skill. Before killing a pig, there were two instances in which Jack told
everyone he could kill but did not have the guts to take the life of a living animal. Taking a pig s life
unleashed a side of Jack that none of his companions had seen before. The first kill was a trigger for
Jacks lust for hunting and eventually his loss of innocence. The revelation made by the Lord of the
flies expresses loss of innocence in Simon. During a mirage, Simon hallucinates that the sow head on
the stick came to life and spoke about innate hatred born in all people. The Lord of the Flies says, You
knew, didn t you? I m part of you (Goulding 143). This quote shows that sin is a part of us and always
will be. Goulding made the point very clear by having the Lord of the Flies divulge such a dark
message because he was symbolic of hatred and the devil. The conversation Simon had with the Lord
of the

The Pathophysiology Of Asthma
Asthma is a common disease that affects approximately 300 million children and adults worldwide
(Arshad, S. H., Babu, K. s., 2009). It leads to rising healthcare costs and reduces the quality of life in a
person due to the restrictions that a person has depending on the type of asthma. Doctors who can treat
asthma are called Pulmonologist, and an Immunologist. It is important to know the pathophysiology,
clinical manifestation and medical management to properly treat the disease.
Pathophysiology
Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs.

Not everybody s body responds the same to medications. Medications for asthma are categorized in
three categories: anti inflammatory, bronchodilators, and leukotriene modifiers, (Types of Asthma,
n.d.). Anti inflammatory agents, suppress inflammation. Bronchodilators relax smooth muscle
contraction which helps with the narrowing of the bronchial tubes. Leukotrienes interrupt the chemical
signaling inside the body that can lead to inflammation and constriction. One kind of anti
inflammatory is a corticosteroid. This the most potent and effective kind. A anti inflammatory that is
commonly prescribed to children is called Cromolyn Sodium and Nedocromil (Types of Asthma, n.d.).
Inhalers are also used in the treatment of asthma. Two types of inhalers are long term and quick relief.
Long term inhalers help for longer periods of time and quick relief is a in the moment type of thing.
Providers recommended decreasing being around allergens that can trigger asthma. When patients are
taking medications, sometimes they begin to feel better and show no symptoms for some time, but this
is confusing to them. They see it as oh I m better I can stop taking my medication. That is not the case
because asthma can flare up

Socialism In The Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
Socialism Throughout The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, he portrays that capitalism is the cause of all
evils in society. No matter how hard Jurgis and his family worked and tried, they were still stuck in the
same squalor. Sinclair uses the life of Jurgis s family, an immigrant family, to indicates that capitalism
is bad, unfair, deceitful, untrust, inhuman, and violent. In Sinclair s point of view, socialism is as
remedy for the evils of capitalism. Jurgis s family would have fared better under socialism than under
capitalism. Sinclair portrays his view through the factories conditions and how it only cared about
gaining benefits regardless the workers health and safety, as well as the customers . The work

Allusions In The Crucible
You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the
force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn
almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the
Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous
actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the
instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire
saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed
divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not
only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their
omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin
to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t
change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a
non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown ... Show

The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did
many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was
just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way,
he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore,
the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not

All Men Are Created Equal Joseph Brant Analysis
The meaning of the phrase all men are created equal has evolved dramatically since the time it was
written, and continues to evolve. Today, it means we are all equal, regardless of race, gender, or
preference. At the time of composure of the Declaration of Independence, it only referred to the white
men that owned land. Women, slaves, and Native Americans were not included in all men . In the
encounter written by Joseph Brant, the war chief tells of how he went to the King of England and
made their requests known. He told them of how they had been treated poorly by the Canadians and
requested that they be chastised. The war chief also voiced his concern that they had given so much

Affects of Ph on Peroxidase Enzyme
The Affects of pH on Peroxidase Enzyme
Claire Bell
Biology 1130
Jazmen Myers
Section 36
Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower
activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its
environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent studies
and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an experiment testing
the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the experiment we created
different solutions all containing hydrogen peroxide, peroxidase, and guaiacol. However each cuvette
contained a different pH level, 2,5,7,or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the blank cuvettes, the 2 mL of pH levels 2,5,7, and 10 were added first, followed by the 1mL of
peroxidase. However our experimental cuvettes contained both hydrogen peroxide and guaiacol.
Before the cuvettes were placed in the spectrophotometer we added 0.1 mL of H202, followed by 0.02
mL of guaiacol these two substances were added last immediately before they were placed in the
spectrophotometer. Para film was placed over the cuvette opening, and the assay solution was shaken
and placed into the spectrophotometer where its saturation level was then tested. We recorded the
saturation level of the solution every 15 seconds for 3 minutes. This process was repeated two times
for each pH level for a total of two trials.
Results
Figure one depicts the reaction rate of peroxidase enzyme over time. The y axis shows the absorbance
of the assay solutions, and the x axis depicts time it took for the reaction to occur in seconds.
Figure 2 is a representation of the average saturation of each cuvette at a specific point time as a
function. The y axis shows the specific saturation points from figure 1, and the x axis provides the
different levels of pH. The pH scale provided on the x axis ranges from 0 to 14, 0 being the most
acidic and 14 being the most basic. The point chosen from figure 1 was the saturation levels of each
cuvette at 110 seconds. The saturation point was chosen because in the previous graph at time 110

The Reasons And Causes Of The Filipino American War
The Filipino American War was sparked by the unprovoked shooting of Filipino soldiers by American
sentries stationed in a suburb of Santa Mesa in February 1899. Pimentel (1999) describes on a hot,
humid night of Feb 4, 1899, American sentries patrolling the Manila suburb of Santa Mesa opened fire
on Filipino soldiers walking near a bridge over the San Juan River (Pimentel 1999. Pg. 1). The war
lasted from February 1899 until July 1902. The war was noted as one of the bloodiest conflicts in U.S.
history noted to have claimed over 250,000 lives (Pimentel 1999). The war lasted longer than the
Americans expected, moreover the war resulted in Filipino soldiers shifting to guerrilla warfare to
make up the lack of firepower. Pimentel (1999) describes, overwhelmed by superior American power,
the Filipinos shifted to guerrilla warfare. The strategy worked, but it also prompted U.S, commanders
to employ more brutal tactics against an elusive enemy that enjoyed popular support (Pimentel 1999.
Pg. 2). The Filipino soldiers were able to find support from the The Filipino people. Filipino people
were first colonized by the Spanish for over 300 years before being sold to America for 20 million
during the peace treaty signed in Paris on December 1898. Consequently, under the long control of the
Spanish gave way to the Filipino people craving their freedom from the Spanish and currently during

Performing the Audit Kudler policies and procedures will be reviewed using a risk base audit
approach. Attribute sampling technique will test internal controls of the POS System Observed sales
transaction made at each store. Using the variable sampling technique, financial report from REMS
system and bank statements obtained from the bank will be compared to Kudler s bank reconciliation
reports. After the evidence is gathered and reviewed an overall audit opinion will be given to
determine if objectives were met and whether procedures were sufficient.
Lastly any reportable conditions or deficiencies uncovered during the course of the audit will be
identified and deem a follow up. The request for additional documentation, another audit, or a phone
call would be considered a follow up.
Non Computer Auditing Auditing around the computer is not generally an effective approach to

Private Development and Corporate Funding to Fight Shoreline Erosion
At its simplest, shoreline erosion is the result of the combination of processes, both natural and
manmade, by which shoreline and beaches are damaged or lost. For this discussion, wetlands are also
included. There is an ongoing debate over the best way by which to preserve beaches, shorelines, and
wetlands. Conservation extremists argue that limiting or restricting land use, and restoring damaged
property with tax money represents the most prudent answer to shoreline erosion. Included in this
position is the inherent role of government intervention to preserve America s shoreline. There are
many problems with the conservation position, and many advantages to ... Show more content on

Many, if not most, of our coastal environment concerns stem from population growth pressure
(Rhinehart, 1997). These trends make it clear that the hodgepodge of environmental and zoning laws
throughout the country many at odds with each other are unable to cope with the pressures brought to
bear on America s shoreline resources. Only the consistently well reasoned principles of private
industry can answer the growing needs of shoreline, beach, and water resource management.
There are many wise and sensible voices pointing out the failures and shortcomings of the
conservation movement. Washington State Representative Joyce Mulliken, R Ephrata, has recently
announced the proposal of legislation to repeal shoreline regulations approved by the Washington
Department of Ecology (DOE). The regulations would prohibit the use of all lands within 200 feet of a
shoreline, including commercial development, farming, ranching, and other essential activities. Rep.
Mulliken points out those state s most extreme environmental lobbyists created these rules, without
concern for legitimate business interests. Further, these regulations constitute an unfunded mandate
that would cost millions to local taxpayers. Regulations such as the ones imposed on the people of
Washington State represent a direct threat to the state s farmers, ranchers, dairy producers, and other
agricultural industries. They also constitute a direct threat to private property

Of Mice and Men Movie Review
Of Mice and Men captures the viewer s attention with a girl in a red dress (Moira Harris) running
through an open field, and our two main characters, George Milton (Gary Sinise) and Lennie Small
(John Malkovich), running from men on foot and horseback with rifles and dogs. It gives us an insight
on their personalities. It also shows us Lennie s strength and accidental violence
The cinematography is great, showing personal moments with close up shots, and less personal
moments with far out shots. When Lennie and George are hiding in the ditch there is a close up shot,
but when they are traveling to the ranch, there is a far away shot. This helps the reader understand the
tension of the scene and how personal it is. This effects the importance many scenes in the movie.
Gary Sinise, the director of the film, does a good job of portraying Salinas as an old Western town. He
also chooses to only show human violence, not animal violence, making this movie unique. He does
not show the killing of animals such as rats and dogs, but instead chooses to show when Lennie fights
Curley and when characters die. This is to show the importance of the human violence, opposed to the
less important animal violence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Russian Revolution Of 1917
The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought with it the fall of 300 years of Romanov rule and marked the
beginning of the transition of Tsarism to Communism, from which Lenin established the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics, succeeded by Stalin. The Revolution is worthy of investigation as it is
arguably the most significant event of the 20th century, considering that it helped shape many other
subsequent events such as the Second World War and the Cold War. The Bolsheviks triumph can be
accounted to two reasons: the first being the weaknesses of autocracy leading to the fall of Tsarism;
the second the relative strengths of the Bolsheviks compared to the downfalls of the Provisional
Government, leading to the Bolshevik takeover. There were many reasons for the fall of Tsarism, such
as the backwardness of Russian society, the failure of the Tsar personally, and the autocratic system of
government which caused grievances amongst the people. The Russian public desired political
change, whether towards a more democratic society like 20th century Britain, or towards a more
socialist revolution in which power was returned to the people. When assessing the reasons as to why
Tsarism collapsed, it is crucial to look at the setting of early 19th century Russia, which inevitably led
to the Tsar s weaknesses in his control of the government.
Russia at this time was a backwards and provincial society: encompassing a vast expanse of territory,
the towns were underdeveloped and the

  • 2. Past, Present, Future Abstract This past, present and future paper will reflect on my personal and professional growth during the time frame that I was a student at the University of Phoenix. One of the themes that are explored in this paper is that education is a lifetime pursuit. Another theme is what I am taking away from the institution now that I have completed my course of study. Finally the paper sets future career and personal goals to continue my lifetime of learning. Past Present and Future Past I have always valued education, and have a great yearning for knowledge. Prior to attending the University of Phoenix I had attended Oral Roberts University, majoring in Management Information Systems, for three years. My studies at Oral Roberts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My written work has gotten better and I have sharpened some of my information retrieval and utilization skills. The two general education courses taken during my course of study that have had the greatest impact on my current and potential employment are Skills for Professional Development and Critical Thinking and Computer Logic. I chose these courses because that helped to develop skills and tactics that will help me to be a better employee to future employers as well helped me develop personally as well. I chose the Skills for Professional Learning class because it taught the concepts of team learning and team problem solving. The most important thing that I learned in this course is what is referred to as the 4P Meeting Management Model by the authors of the book Tools for Teams. This model teaches that a successful team meeting consists of a defined purpose, the right participants, a plan and a defined process. I chose the Critical Thinking class because it was the first class I ever had that really defined and elaborated on what critical thinking is. Critical thinking is the subconscious process that we go through to solve problems, we can however teach ourselves to be better critical thinkers. In Keys to Success the authors basically say that critical thinking deals with asking questions, considering without judgment as many response as you can, and choosing responses that are as complete and accurate as possible . • 3. The Dust Bowl Of Tarrant County College Tarrant County College has a traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl that is sponsored by Ohio State Library, American Library Association, Mount Holyoke, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. This traveling exhibit is in a decent location, has a great display, and gives out a lot of information about the Dust Bowl. This traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl is located in the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus library in Arlington, Texas. It is located off of Highway 360. The exhibit is located in the library in the main building on the first floor. When one walks into the library they would walk past the front desk as if they were going to the back of the library. After the front desk they would pass the computers and behind the computers is where the exhibit is. The exhibit about the Dust Bowl is in a good location because it is in the library where most students go daily. The location can also be considered a bad location because it is not easily seen from the door and one has to be looking for it to find it. The exhibit should be advertised to let more people know about it and tell them what it is near in the library. The traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl has twelve different displays. Ten of the displays are set up in a circular formation with numbers on the bottom. On each of these displays there are pictures and information on the front and back of them. All of the front side of the displays are facing the inside of the circle and are numbered one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Arguments Against Codified Constitution A constitution can be defined as A set of rules that seek to establish the duties, powers and functions of the various institutions of government; regulate the relationship between and among the institutions; and define the relationship between the state and the individual, (Winrow, n.d.) Marking the approaching 800th anniversary of Britain s famous Magna Carta, Graham Allen MP has put forward a proposition about how Britain should reconsider its un codified constitution. He states: At the beginning of the 2010 Parliament, we felt that the time was right to engage the public in a comprehensive evaluation of the United Kingdom s democratic arrangements, culminating in this consultation which runs into the year that we will celebrate 800 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many codified constitution supporters fail to take into account the overall rigidity of a codified constitution, a problem that has caused numerous problems for countries around the world (PaCRC, 2014, pp. 24 26). Most predominantly is the classic, yet potent example of the USA and their gun laws. There has been an on going debate about whether gun laws should be restricted due to their position on the constitution. The argument of many anti gun restrictions, such as the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Gun Owners of America (GOA), is that the right to bear arms, stated under the second amendment of the US constitution as The right of the people to keep and bear arms should not be infringed , outlines the fundamental right for law abiding American citizens to legally own a firearm, and therefore should not be contested as it forms part of the key liberties of an American citizen. Although, in recent years, the USA has seen numerous public shooting sprees, most predominantly the Columbine shootings of 1999, Sandy Hook shootings of 2012 in Connecticut and Virginia Tech killings of 2007. This has called into question the compatibility of the second amendment with modern day society. It is clear that there needs to be some form of restriction on the possession of guns in the US, yet due to the nature of the codified constitution in place, this is extremely difficult to alter, highlighting the rigidity of codified constitutions and the lack of flexibility to update legislation in sync with an ever changing ... • 6. Comparing What s Eating Gilbert Grape, And Shawshank Red The three movies What s Eating Gilbert Grape, Of Mice and Men, and Shawshank Redemption all have separate themes and ideas that revolve around particular characters. However, one clear intention that all of the following movies are trying to send across, is to be generally a better person. Gilberts mom, Lennie, and Brooks are all characters that struggle in some way and also all end dejectedly bad. These problems that the characters face could have all been resolved in a solemn manner if people did not judge others by their appearance but by their morals, if people were there for each other even if they re frustrated by them, finally if they did not jump to rash decisions and not give up. To start with, society has been rather harsh on those who are obese , whether that be magazines ,tv shows and so on. • 7. Organic Extraction Distillation Process With Abe Extraction ABSTRACT Conventionally, Butanol is made with the Acetone Butanol Ethanol process using Clostridium species to ferment sugars from biomass. Conversely, the route is linked with some shortcomings such as low butanol yield and by product formation (acetone and ethanol). The low productivities and butanol yields of ABE batch fermentation can be increased by continuous fermentation with cell recycle and integrated product removal. In order to facilitate an effective and energy efficient product removal, we suggest to apply a hybrid extraction distillation process with ABE extraction in an external column. INTRODUCTION Butanol (ethyl alcohol) is a four carbon alcohol which has been mainly used as a solvent, chemical intermediate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The total ABE titer is 15 18 g/L with 10 13 g/L butanol. ABE fermentation by Clostridia usually has two phases, acidogenesis and solventogenesis (Lee et al., 2008). In the acidogenesis phase, glucose or other sugars are converted into acids such as acetate acid and butyrate acid, which leads to rapid decrease in pH. Under certain critical pH, Clostridia shifts to the solventogenesis phase during which it consumes acids to produce solvents (acetone, ethanol and butanol). The most important factor that triggers the shift from acidogenesis to solventogenesis is external and internal pHs. Some metabolically engineered Clostridia do not have this shift mechanism . As a fuel, butanol can be used in pure form or blended in gasoline in any concentration unlike ethanol that can be blended only up to 85%; however, a higher blend would necessitate motor engine modification . In addition, the energy content of butanol being 29.2 MJ/L is 30% higher than that of ethanol (21.2 MJ/L) and much closer to gasoline (32.5 MJ/L). Also, butanol s low vapor pressure, hydroscopic nature, less volatility and less flammability facilitates its blending and supply in existing gasoline channels and pipelines. • 11. The Blue Collar Guys Essay The Blue Collar Guy There is a Chinese proverb that says, Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those doing it. Steve Olson wrote an essay that talks about that very principle. He titled his essay Year of the Blue Collar Guys . It is about the hard working blue collar guys (BCGs) living in America, but what was his purpose in writing about BCGs? What kind of modes of persuasion does he use to persuade his audience to his way of thinking? How does he respond to the opposing side of his argument, and what kind of logical fallacies does he use? First and foremost, what is Olson s purpose in Writing Year of the blue collar guy? His purpose is to convince the working class of America to show recognition to the BCGs. ... For example, Olson says, These talkers, are the guys we drove from the playgrounds into the libraries when we were young and now for twenty years or more now we have endured the revenge of the nerds . (Paragraph four) Though this statement may not be completely accurate, Olson wrote it in a way that would seem humorous to most of his audience and, still have a hint of legitimacy behind it. Olson s use of pathos wasn t as effective towards his overall goal of showing Americans how critical BCGs are. Though he still got his point across, he could have been more convincing if he used a more logical approach by simply stating the accomplishments that BCGs have done in comparison to white collar guys would have been a more convincing argument than forming it into a humorous comment. To any perspective on life, there is always an opposing side, and the opposing side Olson brings up in his essay is that BCGs are not sophisticated enough to receive the kind of recognition they want. He states that BCGs have been portrayed as beer drinking, big bellied, bigoted, rednecks who dress badly . (Paragraph 1) Most people would respond by shooting insults back towards whoever said that. Olson chooses another approach, surprisingly, he agrees with them. He takes what they say and laughs at it. After he brings up these insults, Olson continues by saying, ... The chain of command is defined as an official hierarchy of authority that dictates who is in charge of whom and of whom permission must be asked. There is a chain of command evident in multiple forms. There is a chain of command in households with parental figures and family hierarchy, in every structured organization, within workplaces and largely in the military. The military chain of command is in place to provide the control and the communication necessary to accomplish the mission. There are multiple levels of organizations and each level is responsible for a lower level which are all accountable to each of the higher levels. • 21. Loss Of Innocence In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies Norman Cousins, American journalist and peace activist, once said, The tragedy of life is not death but what we let die inside of us while we live. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, the characters go through a loss of innocence which can be illustrated by the words of Norman Cousins. Throughout the novel, the young boys are put in situations in which their innocence slowly dwindles away by being revealed to the born hate inside of everyone. The characters loss of innocence in Lord of the Flies is shown when Jack killed a pig for the first time, by the truth from the Lord of the Flies, and the gradual death of the island itself. Jack killing a pig is a scene in the novel where innocence is lost. After landing on the island, Jack went with the choir to find meat. He went up to pigs twice before he could bring himself to kill one. On page 74, the author writes, The chant was audible but at that distance still wordless. Behind Jack walked the twins, carrying a great stake on their shoulders. The gutted carcass of a pig swung from the stake, swinging heavily as the twins toiled over the uneven ground...Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood (Golding 74). This passage displays how once Jack had slaughtered the pig, he showed his accomplishment to the boys and acted as if he was powerful with his new skill. Before killing a pig, there were two instances in which Jack told everyone he could kill but did not have the guts to take the life of a living animal. Taking a pig s life unleashed a side of Jack that none of his companions had seen before. The first kill was a trigger for Jacks lust for hunting and eventually his loss of innocence. The revelation made by the Lord of the flies expresses loss of innocence in Simon. During a mirage, Simon hallucinates that the sow head on the stick came to life and spoke about innate hatred born in all people. The Lord of the Flies says, You knew, didn t you? I m part of you (Goulding 143). This quote shows that sin is a part of us and always will be. Pimentel (1999) describes on a hot, humid night of Feb 4, 1899, American sentries patrolling the Manila suburb of Santa Mesa opened fire on Filipino soldiers walking near a bridge over the San Juan River (Pimentel 1999. Pg. 1). The war lasted from February 1899 until July 1902. The war was noted as one of the bloodiest conflicts in U.S. history noted to have claimed over 250,000 lives (Pimentel 1999). The war lasted longer than the Americans expected, moreover the war resulted in Filipino soldiers shifting to guerrilla warfare to make up the lack of firepower. Pimentel (1999) describes, overwhelmed by superior American power, the Filipinos shifted to guerrilla warfare. The strategy worked, but it also prompted U.S, commanders to employ more brutal tactics against an elusive enemy that enjoyed popular support (Pimentel 1999. Pg. 2). The Filipino soldiers were able to find support from the The Filipino people. Filipino people were first colonized by the Spanish for over 300 years before being sold to America for 20 million during the peace treaty signed in Paris on December 1898. Consequently, under the long control of the Spanish gave way to the Filipino people craving their freedom from the Spanish and currently during the time of the war from the American government, thus propelling the Filipino people to aid ... Private Development and Corporate Funding to Fight Shoreline Erosion At its simplest, shoreline erosion is the result of the combination of processes, both natural and manmade, by which shoreline and beaches are damaged or lost. For this discussion, wetlands are also included. There is an ongoing debate over the best way by which to preserve beaches, shorelines, and wetlands. Conservation extremists argue that limiting or restricting land use, and restoring damaged property with tax money represents the most prudent answer to shoreline erosion. Included in this position is the inherent role of government intervention to preserve America s shoreline. There are many problems with the conservation position, and many advantages to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many, if not most, of our coastal environment concerns stem from population growth pressure (Rhinehart, 1997). These trends make it clear that the hodgepodge of environmental and zoning laws throughout the country many at odds with each other are unable to cope with the pressures brought to bear on America s shoreline resources. Only the consistently well reasoned principles of private industry can answer the growing needs of shoreline, beach, and water resource management. There are many wise and sensible voices pointing out the failures and shortcomings of the conservation movement. Washington State Representative Joyce Mulliken, R Ephrata, has recently announced the proposal of legislation to repeal shoreline regulations approved by the Washington Department of Ecology (DOE). The regulations would prohibit the use of all lands within 200 feet of a shoreline, including commercial development, farming, ranching, and other essential activities. Rep. Mulliken points out those state s most extreme environmental lobbyists created these rules, without concern for legitimate business interests. Further, these regulations constitute an unfunded mandate that would cost millions to local taxpayers. Regulations such as the ones imposed on the people of Washington State represent a direct threat to the state s farmers, ranchers, dairy producers, and other agricultural industries. They also constitute a direct threat to private property ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of Mice And Men Movie Review Essay We ll live off the fatta the lan ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Of Mice and Men Movie Review Of Mice and Men captures the viewer s attention with a girl in a red dress (Moira Harris) running through an open field, and our two main characters, George Milton (Gary Sinise) and Lennie Small (John Malkovich), running from men on foot and horseback with rifles and dogs. It gives us an insight on their personalities. It also shows us Lennie s strength and accidental violence The cinematography is great, showing personal moments with close up shots, and less personal moments with far out shots. When Lennie and George are hiding in the ditch there is a close up shot, but when they are traveling to the ranch, there is a far away shot. This helps the reader understand the tension of the scene and how personal it is. This effects the importance many scenes in the movie. Gary Sinise, the director of the film, does a good job of portraying Salinas as an old Western town. He also chooses to only show human violence, not animal violence, making this movie unique. He does not show the killing of animals such as rats and dogs, but instead chooses to show when Lennie fights Curley and when characters die. This is to show the importance of the human violence, opposed to the less important animal violence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 34. The Russian Revolution Of 1917 The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought with it the fall of 300 years of Romanov rule and marked the beginning of the transition of Tsarism to Communism, from which Lenin established the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, succeeded by Stalin. The Revolution is worthy of investigation as it is arguably the most significant event of the 20th century, considering that it helped shape many other subsequent events such as the Second World War and the Cold War. The Bolsheviks triumph can be accounted to two reasons: the first being the weaknesses of autocracy leading to the fall of Tsarism; the second the relative strengths of the Bolsheviks compared to the downfalls of the Provisional Government, leading to the Bolshevik takeover. There were many reasons for the fall of Tsarism, such as the backwardness of Russian society, the failure of the Tsar personally, and the autocratic system of government which caused grievances amongst the people. The Russian public desired political change, whether towards a more democratic society like 20th century Britain, or towards a more socialist revolution in which power was returned to the people. When assessing the reasons as to why Tsarism collapsed, it is crucial to look at the setting of early 19th century Russia, which inevitably led to the Tsar s weaknesses in his control of the government. Russia at this time was a backwards and provincial society: encompassing a vast expanse of territory, the towns were underdeveloped and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
