The Library of Congress
b HISTORY /b br The Library of congress was established by an act of congress on April 24, 1800. It
was originally housed in the United States capitol. The collection, which stared out small at 740
volumes, slowly increased to over 3,000 volumes by 1814. That year, though, the British along with
the capitol burned those books during the assault on Washington. br br To rapidly replace the
collection, Thomas Jefferson offered his personal library to congress at no cost, describing the nature
of his books like so: I do not know that it contains any branch of science which Congress would wish
to exclude from the collections; there is, in fact, no subject to which a Member of Congress may not
have occasion to refer. This changed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He recommended an individual structure and, in 1872 proposed a scheme to Congress for such a
building. In 1875, he told the Congress that the Library had worn out all shelf space and that books are
now, from sheer force of necessity, being piled on the floor in all directions. Unless Congress obtained
rapid action on the question of a separate structure its Librarian would soon be placed in the unhappy
predicament of presiding over the greatest chaos in America. br br The first separate Library of
Congress Building, the Jefferson Building, was suggested by Librarian of Congress Ainsworth Rand
Spofford in 1871, authorized in 1886, and completed in 1897. When its doors were opened to the
public on November 1, 1897, it represented a supreme nationwide accomplishment: its 23 carat gold
plated dome capped the largest, costliest, and safest library structure in the world. It s highly decked
out front wall and center, for which more than forty American artists and sculptors could outshine
European libraries in magnificence and loyalty to classical civilization. A modern guidebook bragged:
America is justly proud of this gorgeous and palatial monument to its National sympathy and
appreciation of Literature, Science, and Art. It has been designed and executed entirely by American
art and American labor (and is) a fitting tribute for the great thoughts of generations past, present, and
to be. This new national Temple

New York Community Bancorp Is The Fourth Largest Savings...
Aims and Objective:
New York Community Bancorp is the fourth largest savings and loan association (S L) in the United
States and the largest in New York State. Pennfed Savings Bank offers traditional retail services and
its main commercial focus are family residential mortgages. The FDIC approved the merger, and
under the terms of the Agreement and Plan of Merger, PennFed shareholders will receive 1.222 shares

Next, the second hypothesis will be that, the short term return of the bidder firm is insignificant and
negative. Lastly, the long term hypothesis will be that, the abnormal return of the acquiring firm is
negative or negligibly close to zero. Literature review:
Empirical studies examining stock market reaction to M A announcement find little evidence of
wealth creation, with shareholders of the target firms gaining at the expense of the bidder firms. A
merger is said to create value, if the combined value of the bidder or target firm increases on the
announcement of the merger (Houston et al., 2001) (Ghosh Dutta, 2015) (Campa, 2004). Moreover,
the synergistic gains hypothesis of corporate acquisitions underlined by Isa Yap (2004) states that, a
combination of two firms will result in a combined gain that is, more than the sum of the value of the
individual firm. These gains may be attributed to the increasing efficiencies and synergies of the
companies involved.
While some studies show there may be little or no improvements in the post acquisiton operating
performance of merged banks, M As do create value. This is observed by the positive or negative
reactions of stock prices during M A announcements (Isa Yap, 2004) (Campa, 2004) (Drymbetas
Kyriazopoulos, 2014). Most studies find that cumulative abnormal returns occur in the days following
or prior to the announcement date (Andrade et al., 2001).

Personal Narrative-Fair Job Fair
Last Friday, I went to the Career Fair and there were eleven organizations. Out of the eleven
organizations, I only went up to three organizations because I was more interested in their companies.
The first company I went up to was Shaw because Shaw is a carpet company that I want to start off for
my first job. When I went up to the two ladies, I introduced myself and stating what I am majoring in
and what I am looking for. One of the ladies provided me information whether the company had a
position open for any accounting. Unfortunately, the company did not have any opening. She told me
after graduation to look at their website for any open position, so I left her a copy of my resume. After
having my first conversation, I realize I forgot to ask her for a business card. It is important for me to
ask for a business card, so I can email them if I have any questions. I need to improve that as one of
my networking skills of not being afraid to ask for a business card. ... Show more content on

provided me with two business cards. The first card was about the website that I can search for open
position, and the second card was her information. Before I left the table, I provided her my resume
since she forgot to ask. I made sure that she had a copy and being able to communicate well. So, I did

A Critical Reflection
The critical reflection
Secondly, one of the ways to find any solution to avoid the loss of at least 200000 jobs in Australia is
with a critical reflection. The Gibbs model has provided an easy tool to analyse in simple steps a
philosophical and practical cycle, to develop a strategic solution to solve and maintain enterprises in
health. In comparison with the Stephenson critical reflection framework, Gibbs brings a rapid
solution, being a pragmatic approach building the knowledge through past and present events. The

Judgment In Puppy And Sonny s Blues
So Judgmental
In the world today it takes 5 seconds for a person to judge someone. That quick 5 second judgment
will stay in a person s brain forever. In the short story Puppy and Sonny s Blues Judgment plays a
prominent role in how the stories playout. In this essay I will show you the ways that judgment come
into play, the similarities in between characters, and how moving past judgment can affect the
outcome.
In Sonny s Blues the narrator and in Puppy the main character Marie presents many similarities
including judgement against other characters. In Sonny s Blues the narrator is displaying his judgment
towards his brother Sonny. For example, the narrator keeps his brother at arms length and does not
think it is possible for Sonny to ever change his ways. The narrator is very skeptical of his brother s
life. Just like in the Puppy the main character Marie emphasizes her dislike against Callie s parenting
skills. One example would be, when Marie refuses to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sonny at first does not know how to handle his emotions, causing him to go on a dark downward
spiral of drugs and trouble at an early age. It is not until later in his life that he lets his emotions come
out in a healthy way, through music. The narrator on the other hand deals with his emotions by boxing
them inside of himself, causing him to isolate himself from the world around him. The characters in
Puppy are very similar also. Both Marie and Callie come from difficult past and have strange children.
Marie s son has violent outburst. She fixes the outburst by having him constantly play a video game to
calm him. Callie s son darts in front of cars while playing outside. Callie feels as if she has solved the
issue by putting her son on a chain that is connected to a tree. Both Marie and Callie love their sons

Whole Foods has already bought its largest competitor, Wild Oats, which has shown to be profitable.
By promoting organic foods Whole Foods can increase sales and attract new customers by introducing
them to the Whole Foods experience. Whole Foods would benefit not only by promoting itself but the
industry in general. In addition to promoting organic foods, they could enhance their brand image and
loyalty by continuing their community service efforts. If the industry continues to grow and they
continue to bring about brand awareness and loyalty, Whole Foods could strengthen its market share
and profitability. The key threats that Whole Foods faces include: local grocers increasing their
organic food options, the size of Whole Foods stores deterring customers, and the price of organic
foods. Local grocers could potentially take away from Whole Foods sales by stealing the customers
that want to get in and get out. If customers can get the organic foods they want at a smaller grocery
store, some customers may switch to them. This is where the size of Whole Foods stores becomes a
threat to themselves. If they continue to buy and build large stores they could potentially deter some of
their consumers to the smaller grocers in the area. Also what is a threat now is the high price of
organic foods. Consumers must pay a premium for these items because they cost more to produce.
Whole Foods must keep the customers

Emma And Clueless Analysis
Heckling has transformed Emma through a new set of social values, a new medium and a different
context. She shows the changed ideologies and values by transforming the provincial setting of
Highbury and upper class (gentry) systems whereby wealth, property and status govern strict codes of
behaviour and social relationships to a microcosm of modern Beverly Hills. In Emma, marriage is a
social custom and expectation acting as a medium for security, financial assets, wealth and social
status. Class systems made social interaction and experience limited with rank giving rise to
insensitive, arrogant and pompous individuals like Emma and Cher.

The Economic Impact Of Amoebic Dysentery
There are no definitive metrics on the economic impact of amoebic dysentery. The disease mostly
afflicts children in farming communities whose source of drinking water are streams, rivers and
ponds. Knowledge of the economic cost of diarrheal diseases in the developing countries, on the other
hand, offers rough estimates of the cost of amoebic dysentery. It worth mentioning that about 40% of
the diarrheal diseases in the developing countries is attributable to amoebic dysentery according to a
paper presented at the 28th African Health Sciences Congress, Mauritius, July, 2008. A study done at a

The First Jewish Roman War
As briefly stated in the previous section of this paper, John was writing to both Jewish and Gentile
Christians, post the First Jewish Roman war. The era of his writing and the audience to which he was
writing greatly affected what he was communicating with this passage of Scripture. The logos in the
90 s CE would have been understood by Greeks through a Platonic and Stoic worldview as a
mediatory means between the divine and human realms or as the reason , the force by which the
universe was structured. Philo, a first century philosopher combined this understanding of the logos
with the Jewish conception of wisdom personified. Before the writings of John s Gospel, the Jewish
writings personified Wisdom as a divine mediator of God s person and intent (see Proverbs 8:27; 29
30; 35 36). One can see how language like this shapes and forms the understanding of Jesus that John
wanted to convey to his audience. The Hellenistic audience, influenced by Plato would see Jesus as
the mediating agent between heaven and earth, which was confirmed by Jesus in John 1:51, while
Jewish readers would understand the Word of God through an Old Testament worldview as God in
action, specifically in creation, revelation and deliverance. Craig Keener talks of John s usage of logos
in this way,
By calling Jesus the Word, John calls him the embodiment of all God s revelation in the Scriptures and
thus declares that only those who accept Jesus honor the law, fully (1:17). Jewish

Liberty and The Bill of Rights
Upon creating the U.S. Constitution, the framers of America believed that in order to form a more
perfect union, we required a government that would secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and
our posterity. They sought to form a political entity that would take the necessary steps to ensure that
the people of the nation would have the freedom to act and speak according to their own free will and
guarantee their future generations the entitlement to that same liberty. The bill of rights, laid out as the
first 10 amendments in the Constitution, guarantees citizens a number of personal freedoms that the
government cannot infringe upon. Through the process of incorporation, the amendments not only
apply to the federal government, but also to the states and local government. Therefore, allowing for
the reservation of powers to the states and the people that were not notably allowed to the federal
government. Due to the colonial experience with Great Britain imposing restrictions on people s
rights, the founders of this nation were suspicious of the government s rise to tyranny, thus a limited
government and popular sovereignty were important to them to avoid a monarchial system. To protect
our freedoms, the framers created a government where power is derived from its people. John Locke s
idea that people are born with natural rights of life, liberty, and property laid foundation to the
democracy that lives on today. Locke believed that since people allow its

The History of Dan Gable
If you are, or ever were, a wrestler, could you imagine having a record of 181 1? Dan Gable did not
have to imagine it, because that was his record. Throughout his high school, college and Olympic
career, he only lost one match. Nate Kaeding expressed it perfectly when he said, He has truly earned
his place as the godfather of Iowa sports (Wrestling Life). Dan Gable is the best, pure wrestling role
model because of the amount of hard work and dedication he put into the sport and his drive to always
be better. This is illustrated in his record as a high school and college wrestler, a coach, and in the
Olympics as a wrestler and coach.

Theme Of Biblical Allusion In Wuthering Heights
As Lockwood lays to rest in the third chapter of Emily BrontĂŤ s Wuthering Heights, he is wrought
with a dream of a fictional Reverend Jabez Branderham and his surplus of sins. The dream almost
reads as incomprehensible at first glance, especially when wedged between Lockwood s visions of
Catherine Earnshaw, but the dream holds clout in the overarching tale of Wuthering Heights,
especially when taking its moral implications into consideration. To implement a biblical allusion in
one s text requires the understanding that, no matter what one intends to do with the material, it will
remain morally charged nonetheless. The material can be contorted or figured into a new message
altogether, but some moral proposition will certainly remain. In the case of Lockwood s dream, BrontĂŤ
s allusion to Peter and his interest in forgiveness are contorted to address what happens when the
threshold of forgiveness is surpassed. Furthermore, the dream does not grapple with the power of
forgiveness, but with the level of desperate exasperation one reaches after prolonged anguish. It is
through the contortion of such a biblical allusion that Lockwood is met with what is essentially a
warning against staying at either Thrushcross Grange or Wuthering Heights a warning which he
ultimately disregards, thus leading to his exposure to the litany of terrors which exist in the story of
Wuthering Heights. Though Lockwood s dream doesn t exactly parallel the biblical tale which it
alludes to, the

William the Holy Conqueror
Even though William the Conqueror descended from a line of Vikings who had lived in France for
over 200 years, William had more of an impact on the English language than the majority of
influential English born people of the time. The French speaking Normans brought a whole new
vocabulary to England, whose language was closely related to German. (Barlow 8). He even
introduced the Norman legacy of building castles, including the Tower of London. Although he is
most well known for the Norman invasion of 1066 that overthrew the Anglo Saxon reign which had
lasted for over six centuries, William was a very religious man. He was moral and righteous by the
standards of the time, and devoted much of his time to the Norman church. William was born in 1028
and was the only son of Duke Robert I of Normandy who later died on a voyage to Jerusalem. After
his father s death in 1035, he was knighted at the age of fifteen and the Norman magnates accepted
William as duke even though he was an illegitimate child; he was actually known as William the
Bastard. This caused William serious problems later in life and he had to overcome several massive
obstacles one of which was surviving numerous rebellions; which his mother somehow got him
through. William relied heavily on King Henry I of France for protection. He faced substantial
difficulty maintaining control over Normandy but by his early twenties he emerged a powerful leader.
William then gathered an army to protect his estate. He

Generational Differences in the Classroom
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It
should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it comes to learning. The key to being
able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to
satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and
those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials.
This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ,
and what to provide to each group in order for their learning experience to be most rewarding.
The Silent Generation was born between the mid 1920 s to early 1940 s. The silent generation was
born in the middle of the Great Depression, and saw their parents struggle with finance issues
(Levonius, 2015). This generation learned to value the money that they had and tended to save more
than spend. This generation was raised in the midst of the World War, therefore this generation
preferred to keep their heads down and stay silent while working hard to achieve slow progress
(Levonius, 2015). In the classroom, members of this generation prefer to be in the background and not
the center of attention. They are a group that respects authority, does what is asked of them and does
not quit the job until complete. This generation grew up in a teacher centric educational system,
meaning that children should be seen and not heard. While they were in school if they spoke out of
turn there was usually some sort of punishment. The silent generation has a learning style that is based
on the classic classroom structure, and what that means is they prefer to sit in front of an instructor
and listen to the lecture. They like for learning to be taught in a linear format with feedback that is
clear (Levonius, 2015). It is common that this generation has decided to return to school simply for the
fact that they want to keep their minds sharp, after retirement. It is important for these adult students

The Impacts of Changing Immigration Patterns of the...
Immigration has gone through many different stages of change just as the nation of Canada had many
stages of change. Transformations of immigration during the post war period greatly impacted the
society and immigration patterns of today. These changes included the post war immigration boom, a
less segregating Immigration Act and the rise of multicultural and refugee immigration. Post war
immigration patterns have differed from previous waves of immigration due to their size and source of
immigration resulting in a grand change in the face of Canada. During the post war period, Canada
benefited from a boom of immigrants. After the war, 1.5 million immigrants flocked to Canada

However, the induction of the Point System coincided with restrictions from the Britain. This made
Canada more preferable to various immigrants. The ideals against discrimination of immigrants have
since been an integral part of immigration policy. The new vision for Immigration Act in 1976 led to
the increased opportunities for visible minorities and refugees. In the 1986 Census of Canada, a visible
minority is defined by Statistics Canada as people of the following origins: Blacks, Indo Pakistani,
Chinese, Korean, Japanese, South East Asian, Filipino, Other Pacific Islanders, West Asian and Arab,
and Latin American, excluding Argentinean and Chilean (justice.gc.ca). This new revision of the
Immigration Act dealt with many issues with the immigration process from previous revisions. This
Immigration Act defined 4 classes of immigrants (independent, family, sponsored family member and
refugees). The previous Act of 1952 had only focused on independent and dependent (sponsored)
immigrants. Even though this Act supported family reunification of Asian Canadians, it discriminated
and placed quotas on many ethnic groups. The Immigration Act of 1976 on the other hand, focused on
the right of immigrants to uniform and fair treatment from government officials and generosity to
refugees (). This allowed for more visible minorities and refugees to make Canada their new home.
For example, by 1978, the number of refugees and reunited families outnumber that of immigrants

Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes And Leadership...
A Look at Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes and Leadership Concepts in the Workforce By
Robert Graves For a majority of my life, I ve been involved in sports. I can even remember when I
played on my first team, the time my father first enrolled me on my first T ball league. There are
pictures in our family photo album of me holding a basketball at an age even younger than when I
played in the T ball league, shooting it into a Mattel basketball hoop. Throughout the years, I ve
played on various sports teams from little league baseball, YMCA basketball, high school football,
and even a high status volleyball team during my time in the Marine Corps. I love sports and the team
concept; in fact, a majority of my friends played in some type of league, or were former teammates of
my own. I ve noticed throughout the years, as I look back on my life, that I had always been some sort
of captain or role model, and even in the jobs I held I had always been promoted faster than my peers,
and have always been given great recognition and appraisal. I have always been told I was a good
leader, and people came to me willingly to seek assistance and advice. Still to this day, as a chief in
my shop, and as a family friend, people turn to me for life coaching. I see this trend as well with some
of my former teammates, and even some former High School and College athletes that enlisted in the
services. Seeing this trend I began to wonder if there is a correlation between

Ralph Waldo Emerson From Self Reliance
Self reliance is being shown throughout Excerpts from Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson and
Excerpts from Resistance to civil government by Henry David Thoreau. It is saying that you think for
yourself; do for yourself. Emerson is explaining that you need to believe in yourself and use your gut.
Thoreau demonstrates that you need to speak up for yourself because if you hold back and just keep it
to yourself then you can t do anything about it. In Self Reliance Emerson explains on how using what
your brain tells you can be helpful. First, Emerson talks about how you should believe in yourself. To
believe in your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all
men . That is considered being a genius. Willing to think different thoughts and believe in it. Have

Suburban Animals By Jane Eyre
I believe the thesis for Jane s essay is the following, As this essay will show, wild animals increasingly
find suburban life in the United States to be attractive. Which was located on the fourth paragraph of
her introduction. In the introduction, she starts off by talking about how America has changed
compared to decades ago. She speaks about how animals and humans are clashing with one another.
She says it s difficult to ignore this problem as there are stories about bears raiding trashcans and
mountain lions showing up frequently that turns up in the press or on television. Her theory on this
issue is because people are moving closer to the wilderness and are invading their land. Humans aren t
entirely the problem as she mention that

Reflection Paper On Preeclampsia
After our daughter was diagnosed with preeclampsia during her second pregnancy, her dad and I
offered to keep our grandson for a weekend so she could get the rest her doctor had prescribed. Mason
was nearly 27 months old at the time and we weren t sure how he would do away from home. He had
been to Papa and Mimi s home several times before, but never without his parents. My daughter and I
met halfway between our homes, where I gathered Mason and his belongings and returned home
excited to have him all to myself for the first time. Well almost to myself; I did have to share him with
Papa. Once we arrived back to our house, the spoiling began. We played and laughed and snacked on
treats while watching one of his favorite shows after dinner. After his bath, we ended our first day with
bedtime stories. His parents were in the process of transitioning him from the crib to a bed, so we were
fairly certain he d do just fine in our queen size spare bed. And he did. For almost an hour. After that
first hour, we heard the cries of a little grandson who wanted his parents because he began to hear an
unfamiliar sound. Every time the furnace kicked on and he heard the forced air as it blew through the
register he would panic and ask, But Mimi, what is that noise? After several failed attempts to reassure
him it was just the sound of air, it became apparent Mimi wasn t going to be sleeping anywhere but in
that bed next to him for the night, so I snuggled up to him and prayed for

Mercury Planet Research Paper
You are now ready to explore every planet in our solar system. You will learn tons of cool facts about
each planet. This will also teach you about where the names of our planets came from and what the
planet is known for.
Mercury and its speed.
In Roman mythology Mercury is the god of commerce, travel and thievery. The planet got its name
because of how fast it moves. One year in mercury is 88 days, which means it revolves around the Sun
in 88 days. Not only that but Mercury is the closest planet to The Sun. It is also known as the 2nd
hottest planet. Mercury has no moons though because of how close it is to The Sun.

made out of gas.
7. Uranus and it s ice
Uranus is the seventh planet closest to the sun. Uranus is the ancient Greek deity of the Heavens, the
earliest supreme god.The color of Uranus is bright blue. Uranus is always very cold and windy. One
Day in Uranus is 17 hours. Uranus also complete a full orbit around the sun in about 84 earth years.
Like all gas planets Uranus has some rings. Uranus has about ten small moons and five big ones.
Uranus is known for how cold it is. It s basically filled with gases but mainly ice. Something about
Uranus is really doesn t have an actual surface it kind of has rocky and icy water fluids.

James Lincoln Collier s My Brother Sam Is Dead
Truly believing in something means that you are willing to stand up for it and risk your life or suffer
consequences because of it. In James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier s My Brother Sam is
Dead, Sam Meeker did just that. It showed a story where even though standing up for something that
you believe leads to other conflicts, it s worth it if you truly believe in it.
During the American Revolution, people would risk their lives for what they believed in specifically
freedom, and they would be willing to suffer the consequences of their actions. This book takes place
in a time period where it was quite common for young men to join the army and the fight for freedom.
In an argument between Father and Sam, Sam brings up, Sir, it s worth dying to be free. This
statement is showing how Sam feels about freedom. Even though Sam believes it, didn t mean that
others did. Sam s father hadn t agreed with him, which sparked a bigger argument. The argument had
created a very tense relationship between Sam and Father, but Sam had stood up for what he believed
even though others around him didn t agree. It showed that even though he knew ... Show more

We continued to learn that although things weren t always at peace at home, Sam still believed in
caring for his family. One specific example was when both Sam and his brother heard noises coming
from outside. There are people out there, Sam shouted. Let s go. This is showing that while Sam still
wasn t quite at ease with his family, he cared for them so much that he had risked himself without
knowing that the cattle thieves could turn on him by going out to try and stop them. Sam had believed
that his family was important, so he chose to go out and try and save the cattle. It s showing that while
things still weren t quite settled with his family, he was willing to do something for them because he

Cannibalism Is Not Illegal ( Eveleth )
The Other, Other, White Meat
We had to eat these dead bodies, and that was it , this is what Andes plane crash survivor, Roberto
Canessa, had to say on his experience with cannibalism. Cannibalism is the consumption of a member
of the same species. Consuming human flesh is not against the law in the United States, therefore
cannibalism is not illegal (Eveleth). In the eyes of the law, murdering someone to eat is wrong, but the
act of eating a human is not. To Americans the simple thought of eating another human is sickening.
To most that is true, but to others consuming human flesh is a way of life. Some cultures practice
cannibalism for their own spiritual beliefs and others have to eat human flesh to survive. Human flesh
has proteins most want when eating meat. The act of eating human meat has gotten a bad reputation
over the years, looking back in history, people thousands of years ago have different views.
Cannibalism is a way to survive, with the proteins necessary to do so, and a way for cultures to
express their beliefs. Cannibalism is a taboo topic most people do not know enough about. People eat
people for a variety of reasons, the most well known being killers getting a thrill from eating their
victims. Although not everyone who is a cannibal gets a high from eating humans, Americans still see
it as evil. Jeffrey Dahmer is the most well known example of this, a man who gets a sexual desire
from killing and eating his victims. Everyone across America knew of

Fat Sick And Nearly Dead Analysis
Hayden Yost Dr. Burns Eng 101 Nov. 15th, 2017 Is Juice Fasting Alone Enough for College Students?
Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step
towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term
changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a
diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its
facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first
started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as
the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross,
recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. This, combined with his realizing what is
bound to happen if nothing changes pushes Cross to making the decision to shift his life onto a path
promising a much happier future. The documentary begins with a melancholic but determined Joe
Cross and follows his 60 day travels across the United States sharing his journey, goal, and progress
made under the juice fast. As time passes, the viewer witnesses the changes Cross experiences, as he
grows more optimistic, outgoing, and determined to where he chooses to incorporate regular exercise
alongside his juice fast journey. To say a juice fast provides no benefits would be a

Robert Nesta Marley, commonly known as Bob Marley , was born on February 6, 1945 in St. Ann s,
Jamaica. Marley was son of a white man named Norval Marley and black lady named Cedilla Marley
Boker. Due to Marley being mixed he was always rejected growing up (MacDonald). Many people
disliked him due to his rastafarian ways of life. Bob Marley has differing views, society s naive
perception that all he does is smoke marijuana and what is really true he was an inspirational musician
that wanted to unite the world. As commonly known Bob Marley was a rastafarian, being a rastafarian
and having dread locks meant that one voweled not to brush or cut their hair. Bob Marley took his
dreadlocks as his identity. Also being a rastafarian meant living a certain way, the way one ate, treated
other people, and smoking marijuana was part of their religion not just to get high. In the Marley
Documentary, Bob Marley says Christ promised to mankind that him will return within 2000 years
and when him return him will be the king of kings through the lineage of king Solomon and king
David now we look there to see who is this one man , Haile Selassie I stating that they believed the
Emperor of Ethiopia was Christ returning. Rastafari was also taken from his name, he was called Ras

Amazon s Business Model Analysis Essay
Amazon
Amazon.com is ranked number one out of the Top 25 U.S. E commerce Retailers (ranked by annual
sales) as of 2016 (Zaczkiewicz, p 1). Amazon ranks above many other e commerce retailers, such as
Wal Mart, Apple, Staples, and Macy s. The business model, customer value propositions, revenue
model, marketspace, main competitors, comparative advantages, market strategy, management team,
and organizational structure has helped Amazon to stay in business since 1996.
Business Model
Amazon s business model is selling products (basically anything or everything a person could want or
need) from all over the world. Other than the United States, Amazon has separate website divisions for
Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain,
and United Kingdom. Since Amazon has included so many other countries, it makes it easier for
people to find the products they are looking for and pay with their own currency. That reason has led
Amazon to being the number one e commerce retailer.
Customer Value Propositions
The customer value propositions for Amazon have always been price and convenience since the
company started. Low prices have always been a huge deal for Amazon since they have Earth s
Biggest Selection of products available through their family of websites, sold at the lowest cost at a
small profit (Noren, p 1). Convenience plays a major part in Amazon s customer value propositions

The Development of Chondrocranium of Chondrichthyes Essay
Chondrichthyes possess a skeleton that differs considerably from other species in that their skeletons
are made up of cartilage rather than bone. This project gives insight on the normal developmental
pattern of the chondrocranium of a chondrichthyan, using the little skate, Leucoraja erinacea as a
model organism. This is demonstrated by using histological techniques to visualize and describe this
sequence of chondrocranium development, focusing on two stages of development. In the context of
what is morphologically known from their relative taxas and other chondrichthyans, the
developmental pattern that occurs in these two stages is given in detail. It s suggested that from
anterior to posterior, beginning with the earlier of the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting off as a pair of parachordal cartilage, the basal region, or basal plate will grow to surround the
notochord and pair with prechordal cartilages, the trabeculae cranii, that form in front of the notochord
to form the ethmoid plate. The occipital region will form at the posterior end of the chondrocranium
and surround the descending notochord via a segmented occipital arch, which exhibits similarly to that
of a vertebral column present in vertebrates having both a neural and hemal arch (3).
The little skate, Leucoraja erinacea, is a chondrichthyan that is a key model organism for
chondrichthyan embryology studies. As an oviparous species, after internal fertilization its
development is independent of its mother, encapsulated in a laid, moderately thin keratinized egg case
during embryonic development. These embryos receive nourishment via a yolk sac located in the egg
case and remain capsuled during development for approximately 6 9 months (Figure 2a j). As an
oviparous species, they are amenable to experimental embryological manipulation and therefore are
important as a model organism.
Chrondrichthyans are an important lineage in that their studies can shed light onto evolutionary
processes that can give key insights into both development of extinct early jawed fishes and the
evolution of higher

Drugs, Propylthiouracil, And Its Active Metabolite...
The thionamide drugs, propylthiouracil, carbimazole, and its active metabolite methimazole, have
been in use to treat thyrotoxicosis for more than 60 years. A meta analysis of randomised controlled
trials showed long term remission of hyperthyroid Graves disease in about 50% of those treated with
thionamide drugs for a prolonged period. Carbimazole or methimazole are preferred in most
situations, as a small risk of serious liver injury (about 1 in 10 000 adults) has recently been
highlighted during propylthiouracil use. In addition, carbimazole or methimazole can be taken once
daily rather than every eight or 12 hours as is the case for propylthiouracil, and the longer half life
leads to more rapid control. All inhibit the function of TPO, reducing oxidation and organification of
iodide. These drugs also reduce thyroid antibody levels by mechanisms that remain unclear, and they
appear to enhance rates of remission
After euthyroidism is achieved, two different regimens can be employed. In the first regimen, termed
block replace, the dose of thionamide is kept constant, thus blocking thyroid hormone production, and
levothyroxine is then added in a suitable dose to maintain euthyroidism. In the second regimen,
termed titrated, the thionamide dose is progressively lowered at regular intervals to allow endogenous
synthesis of thyroid hormone to continue in a regulated fashion

efforts, and even how he chooses to adorn his outfit with a red carnation, and is eventually released
despite the loathing of his teachers. He joyfully heads to Carnegie Hall for his shift as an usher. It is
here where Paul escapes the monotony of his life; he finds refuge in his livened senses the sounds of
the symphonies, the lights, the feeling of life. Yet he must return to his strangulated home of Cordelia
Street, a place he naturally detested for its homogeneity, and a place that motivated him to his great
escape. After stealing bank notes and checks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her in depth descriptions of people and ideas illuminated the story. It made me feel as though I had to
keep up; I couldn t rest or relax my attention for fear of the story leaving me. She also seemed to
involve all of Paul s senses to add emphasis, both to describe his likes and dislikes. For example, when
portraying Paul s reactions to his mundane home, she wrote, the loathing of respectable beds, (touch)
of a house penetrated by common foods, (smell) colorless mass of every day existence (sight), and of
Paul s trip to New York, she wrote, ... the chatter, the perfumes, the bewildering medley of color he
had, for a moment, the feeling of not being able to stand it. (Sound, smell, sight, and touch,

Colin Kaepernick Takes A Stand By Kneeling
The message being sent by Billy Witz in his article, This Time, Colin Kaepernick Takes a Stand by
Kneeling is that the United States has to start treating every citizen equally. Not too long ago, Colin
Kaepernick, the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, decided to take a seat during the national
anthem rather than stand with his team. Most people in the crowd booed Kaepernick because they had
thought that he was underrating the sacrifices made by the military. After the game, he stated, I love
America... That s why I m doing this. I want to help make America better (Witz 1). This quote shows
the love the Kaepernick has for his country and all of the citizens in it; he does not want to see people
of different ethnicities and color to be

Horizontal Integration In Star Wars And The Matrix
In the modern day transmedia world, developing a truly successful franchise proves to be challenging
against the ceaseless competition worldwide; hence, the concept of horizontal integration is of upmost
importance to amount to this objective. Ultimately, horizontal integration is the act of owning various
media enterprises which, in turn, can aid the original media outlet in creating an overall more
successful franchise. Two of the world s largest media companies, The Walt Disney Company and
Time Warner (Larivière, 2015.), endorse this system as a means of expanding their universal appeal to
consumers, as well as enhancing their ranking in the world of media; consequently, generating more
profit and achieving the status of a successful transmedia franchise . Perhaps the two most renowned
media franchises owned by these respective companies are Star Wars and The Matrix, which
demonstrate the benefits of horizontal integration with regards to ... Show more content on

The success of both epidemics proves to be as a result of intertwining the story world as a whole
through multiple texts to create a narrative so large that it cannot be contained within a single medium
(Jenkins, 2016). Transmedia story telling ultimately relies on horizontal integration to achieve success.
As Jenkins (2011) states, elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery
channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience. In other
words, contemporary franchises need to break the boundaries of traditionally telling a story within a
set media outlet; instead, branching out this story world into different medias to achieve a maximum
fan base through areas of consumer interest. For example, Disney holds ownership of the Star Wars

Petroleum, The Most Valuable Commodities
Crude oil, also known as petroleum, is among the most valuable commodities in the world. It is vital
to many industries, accounting for just over thirty three percent of the world s energy supply. Crude oil
is a naturally occurring substance that can be refined into several products, including diesel fuel,
motor oil, and gasoline, among others. Though prices of crude oil in years passed were typically high,
they fluctuate daily in response to a host of factors, including world wide rates of production and
consumption, environmental issues, overall global economic health, and sociopolitical developments
in other nations that purchase oil. These are, furthermore, factors over which neither government nor
industry have control. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The potential changes that BP should have been scanning for include technological and legislative
changes, changes in the global economy, and changes in the physical environment. BP should have
been aware, for example of any changes or trends in technology. Successful monitoring is then
determined by a company s ability to accurately interpret the data collected from scanning. In this
example, if BP had detected a technological change or trend, it would be important for them to have
an understanding of exactly what the technology is and what it is capable of. Next, the company must
be able to project how the detected changes and trends will impact business. A new technology could
be a potential opportunity for BP or a threat if implemented by a competitor. And finally, once the
changes and trends have been identified, it is important for the firm to determine the significance and
timing of the event. With a change in technology, BP would need to assess whether or not
implementation would give them a competitive advantage. The threat of new entrants to the industry
in the context of the BP oil spill was likely pretty low. Aside from the traditional challenges of
entering an industry as a new comer, new offshore leases were placed on hold, and a moratorium
subsequently placed on offshore drilling below 500 feet by the federal government. This would have
deterred any new

“The Science of Shopping” versus The Signs of Shopping -...
WRIT 102
Feb 24, 2013
The Science of Shopping versus The Signs of Shopping Two Sides of an Issue Shopping has become a
daily activity which happens a billion times in America and around the world. We cannot imagine how
our lives would be affected if shopping was suddenly stopped. Malcolm Gladwell and Anne Norton
both write articles about two sides of modern day shopping: how consumers have impacted the retail
industry and how the industry influences consumers. In the article The Science of Shopping, Malcolm
Gladwell, a well known writer and journalist, analyzes the shopping behaviors of customers and how
retailers can lure customers; while Anne Norton, a professor of political science at the University of
Pennsylvania, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Gladwell writes What Paco likes are facts (100). The sentence is short but strong and
clear enough to emphasize the idea of the following paragraph. The way Gladwell describes Paco
Underhill and his expression of Paco is objective. Although Gladwell says It isn t a hostile gaze,
because Paco isn t hostile at all, readers do not find any kind of subjective emotion in his article (102).
He keeps his tone throughout the article neutral, neither positive nor negative. This is one of the
strongest points that makes his essay more convincing compared with Norton s essay. Gladwell is
specific when talking about Paco. He gives a brief description of Paco and the way he feels when he
interacts with Paco: Paco Underhill is a tall man in his mid forties, partly bald, with a neatly trimmed
beard and an engaging, almost goofy manner (Gladwell 98). This gives readers a clear image of Paco
Underhill like he actually stands before them. In contrast, Norton shows her negative voice in the
Shopping at the Mall part of the article. Norton writes Those who own and manage the mall restrict
what come within their confines (105). Using many strong verbs, restrict, permit and a clear negative
tone, Norton strongly confirms that Neither freedom of speech nor freedom of assembly is permitted
there (105). Despite

Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Essay
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, by Walt Whitman, is a poem about a man who takes the Brooklyn ferry
home after his work day. At first glance one may say How can this long poem really be about a ferry?
Once you get reading you realized there is much more to it then riding the Brooklyn Ferry. This poem
deals with the idea that all humans are united in the harmonies of life because we all share the same
land. This poem describes the relationship between human beings. The poem is describing how he
believes that people see the same things he does and feels the same things he does while on the Ferry.
Since they do experience the same things, this makes them come together because they must react in
the same ways. He is implying that the ferry is connecting humanity because they all witness the same
things while riding it. Throughout the poem the speaker shifts who he is addressing. It goes from the
crowd, to the second person, to then addressing the commuters on the ferry, and then to everyone who
has every rode the ferry, and then to everyone that has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society started to become more homogeneous with the assimilation of immigrants along with the
fusion of nationalities, cultures and ethnicities in the United States. The opposite of the melting pot is
the idea of the salad bowl where cultures begin to mix but still stay distinct in certain aspects.
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry is about New York, which commonly gets referred to as the Melting Pot.
New York symbolizes hope and adventure for all different kinds of people from all over the world.
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry has been called one of Walt Whitman s greatest poems. It speaks about how
he sees the Melting Pot of America come into play. Crossing Brooklyn Ferry connects to history
because the underlying message talks about the immigration into the United States and the changing

owning a wine store from a few different business owners. Author Teague states that the margins are
thin, the hours are long and the competition is fierce. The business owners may realize their dream
only to discover the reality doesn t include much of a salary or many weekends off. Matt Franco of
MCF Rare Wine in Manhattan s West Village, thought starting his own store would be easy due to his

The collection, which stared out small at 740 volumes, slowly increased to over 3,000 volumes by 1814. That year, though, the British along with the capitol burned those books during the assault on Washington. br br To rapidly replace the collection, Thomas Jefferson offered his personal library to congress at no cost, describing the nature of his books like so: I do not know that it contains any branch of science which Congress would wish to exclude from the collections; there is, in fact, no subject to which a Member of Congress may not have occasion to refer. Unless Congress obtained rapid action on the question of a separate structure its Librarian would soon be placed in the unhappy predicament of presiding over the greatest chaos in America. br br The first separate Library of Congress Building, the Jefferson Building, was suggested by Librarian of Congress Ainsworth Rand Spofford in 1871, authorized in 1886, and completed in 1897. When its doors were opened to the public on November 1, 1897, it represented a supreme nationwide accomplishment: its 23 carat gold plated dome capped the largest, costliest, and safest library structure in the world. Literature review: Empirical studies examining stock market reaction to M A announcement find little evidence of wealth creation, with shareholders of the target firms gaining at the expense of the bidder firms. A merger is said to create value, if the combined value of the bidder or target firm increases on the announcement of the merger (Houston et al., 2001) (Ghosh Dutta, 2015) (Campa, 2004). Moreover, the synergistic gains hypothesis of corporate acquisitions underlined by Isa Yap (2004) states that, a combination of two firms will result in a combined gain that is, more than the sum of the value of the individual firm. These gains may be attributed to the increasing efficiencies and synergies of the companies involved. While some studies show there may be little or no improvements in the post acquisiton operating performance of merged banks, M As do create value. This is observed by the positive or negative reactions of stock prices during M A announcements (Isa Yap, 2004) (Campa, 2004) (Drymbetas Kyriazopoulos, 2014). In the short story Puppy and Sonny s Blues Judgment plays a prominent role in how the stories playout. In this essay I will show you the ways that judgment come into play, the similarities in between characters, and how moving past judgment can affect the outcome. In Sonny s Blues the narrator and in Puppy the main character Marie presents many similarities including judgement against other characters. In Sonny s Blues the narrator is displaying his judgment towards his brother Sonny. For example, the narrator keeps his brother at arms length and does not think it is possible for Sonny to ever change his ways. The narrator is very skeptical of his brother s life. Whole Foods has already bought its largest competitor, Wild Oats, which has shown to be profitable. By promoting organic foods Whole Foods can increase sales and attract new customers by introducing them to the Whole Foods experience. Whole Foods would benefit not only by promoting itself but the industry in general. In addition to promoting organic foods, they could enhance their brand image and loyalty by continuing their community service efforts. If the industry continues to grow and they continue to bring about brand awareness and loyalty, Whole Foods could strengthen its market share and profitability. The key threats that Whole Foods faces include: local grocers increasing their organic food options, the size of Whole Foods stores deterring customers, and the price of organic foods. Local grocers could potentially take away from Whole Foods sales by stealing the customers that want to get in and get out. If customers can get the organic foods they want at a smaller grocery store, some customers may switch to them. This is where the size of Whole Foods stores becomes a threat to themselves. If they continue to buy and build large stores they could potentially deter some of their consumers to the smaller grocers in the area. Also what is a threat now is the high price of organic foods. Consumers must pay a premium for these items because they cost more to produce. Whole Foods must keep the customers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The First Jewish Roman War As briefly stated in the previous section of this paper, John was writing to both Jewish and Gentile Christians, post the First Jewish Roman war. The era of his writing and the audience to which he was writing greatly affected what he was communicating with this passage of Scripture. The logos in the 90 s CE would have been understood by Greeks through a Platonic and Stoic worldview as a mediatory means between the divine and human realms or as the reason , the force by which the universe was structured. Philo, a first century philosopher combined this understanding of the logos with the Jewish conception of wisdom personified. Before the writings of John s Gospel, the Jewish writings personified Wisdom as a divine mediator of God s person and intent (see Proverbs 8:27; 29 30; 35 36). One can see how language like this shapes and forms the understanding of Jesus that John wanted to convey to his audience. The Hellenistic audience, influenced by Plato would see Jesus as the mediating agent between heaven and earth, which was confirmed by Jesus in John 1:51, while Jewish readers would understand the Word of God through an Old Testament worldview as God in action, specifically in creation, revelation and deliverance. Craig Keener talks of John s usage of logos in this way, By calling Jesus the Word, John calls him the embodiment of all God s revelation in the Scriptures and thus declares that only those who accept Jesus honor the law, fully (1:17). • 14. Theme Of Biblical Allusion In Wuthering Heights As Lockwood lays to rest in the third chapter of Emily BrontĂŤ s Wuthering Heights, he is wrought with a dream of a fictional Reverend Jabez Branderham and his surplus of sins. The dream almost reads as incomprehensible at first glance, especially when wedged between Lockwood s visions of Catherine Earnshaw, but the dream holds clout in the overarching tale of Wuthering Heights, especially when taking its moral implications into consideration. To implement a biblical allusion in one s text requires the understanding that, no matter what one intends to do with the material, it will remain morally charged nonetheless. The material can be contorted or figured into a new message altogether, but some moral proposition will certainly remain. In the case of Lockwood s dream, BrontĂŤ s allusion to Peter and his interest in forgiveness are contorted to address what happens when the threshold of forgiveness is surpassed. Furthermore, the dream does not grapple with the power of forgiveness, but with the level of desperate exasperation one reaches after prolonged anguish. It is through the contortion of such a biblical allusion that Lockwood is met with what is essentially a warning against staying at either Thrushcross Grange or Wuthering Heights a warning which he ultimately disregards, thus leading to his exposure to the litany of terrors which exist in the story of Wuthering Heights. Though Lockwood s dream doesn t exactly parallel the biblical tale which it alludes to, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William the Holy Conqueror Even though William the Conqueror descended from a line of Vikings who had lived in France for over 200 years, William had more of an impact on the English language than the majority of influential English born people of the time. The French speaking Normans brought a whole new vocabulary to England, whose language was closely related to German. (Barlow 8). He even introduced the Norman legacy of building castles, including the Tower of London. Although he is most well known for the Norman invasion of 1066 that overthrew the Anglo Saxon reign which had lasted for over six centuries, William was a very religious man. He was moral and righteous by the standards of the time, and devoted much of his time to the Norman church. William was born in 1028 and was the only son of Duke Robert I of Normandy who later died on a voyage to Jerusalem. After his father s death in 1035, he was knighted at the age of fifteen and the Norman magnates accepted William as duke even though he was an illegitimate child; he was actually known as William the Bastard. This caused William serious problems later in life and he had to overcome several massive obstacles one of which was surviving numerous rebellions; which his mother somehow got him through. William relied heavily on King Henry I of France for protection. He faced substantial difficulty maintaining control over Normandy but by his early twenties he emerged a powerful leader. • 16. The Characteristics Of Generational Differences In The... Jordan Clary Professor Debra Owens Human Resource Management 27 September 2017 Generational Differences in the Classroom Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it comes to learning. The key to being able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials. This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ, and what to provide to each group in order for their learning experience to be most rewarding. The Silent Generation was born between the mid 1920 s to early 1940 s. The silent generation was born in the middle of the Great Depression, and saw their parents struggle with finance issues (Levonius, 2015). This generation learned to value the money that they had and tended to save more than spend. This generation was raised in the midst of the World War, therefore this generation preferred to keep their heads down and stay silent while working hard to achieve slow progress (Levonius, 2015). In the classroom, members of this generation prefer to be in the background and not the center of attention. They are a group that respects authority, does what is asked of them and does not quit the job until complete. This generation grew up in a teacher centric educational system, meaning that children should be seen and not heard. While they were in school if they spoke out of turn there was usually some sort of punishment. The silent generation has a learning style that is based on the classic classroom structure, and what that means is they prefer to sit in front of an instructor and listen to the lecture. They like for learning to be taught in a linear format with feedback that is clear (Levonius, 2015). It is common that this generation has decided to return to school simply for the fact that they want to keep their minds sharp, after retirement. It is important for these adult students to ... Transformations of immigration during the post war period greatly impacted the society and immigration patterns of today. Post war immigration patterns have differed from previous waves of immigration due to their size and source of immigration resulting in a grand change in the face of Canada. The ideals against discrimination of immigrants have since been an integral part of immigration policy. The new vision for Immigration Act in 1976 led to the increased opportunities for visible minorities and refugees. In the 1986 Census of Canada, a visible minority is defined by Statistics Canada as people of the following origins: Blacks, Indo Pakistani, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, South East Asian, Filipino, Other Pacific Islanders, West Asian and Arab, and Latin American, excluding Argentinean and Chilean (justice.gc.ca). This new revision of the Immigration Act dealt with many issues with the immigration process from previous revisions. This Immigration Act defined 4 classes of immigrants (independent, family, sponsored family member and refugees). The previous Act of 1952 had only focused on independent and dependent (sponsored) immigrants. Even though this Act supported family reunification of Asian Canadians, it discriminated and placed quotas on many ethnic groups. The Immigration Act of 1976 on the other hand, focused on the right of immigrants to uniform and fair treatment from government officials and generosity to refugees (). This allowed for more visible minorities and refugees to make Canada their new home. For example, by 1978, the number of refugees and reunited families outnumber that of immigrants ... There are pictures in our family photo album of me holding a basketball at an age even younger than when I played in the T ball league, shooting it into a Mattel basketball hoop. Throughout the years, I ve played on various sports teams from little league baseball, YMCA basketball, high school football, and even a high status volleyball team during my time in the Marine Corps. I love sports and the team concept; in fact, a majority of my friends played in some type of league, or were former teammates of my own. I ve noticed throughout the years, as I look back on my life, that I had always been some sort of captain or role model, and even in the jobs I held I had always been promoted faster than my peers, and have always been given great recognition and appraisal. I have always been told I was a good leader, and people came to me willingly to seek assistance and advice. Still to this day, as a chief in my shop, and as a family friend, people turn to me for life coaching. In James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier s My Brother Sam is Dead, Sam Meeker did just that. It showed a story where even though standing up for something that you believe leads to other conflicts, it s worth it if you truly believe in it. During the American Revolution, people would risk their lives for what they believed in specifically freedom, and they would be willing to suffer the consequences of their actions. This book takes place in a time period where it was quite common for young men to join the army and the fight for freedom. Cannibalism Is Not Illegal ( Eveleth ) The Other, Other, White Meat We had to eat these dead bodies, and that was it , this is what Andes plane crash survivor, Roberto Canessa, had to say on his experience with cannibalism. Cannibalism is the consumption of a member of the same species. Consuming human flesh is not against the law in the United States, therefore cannibalism is not illegal (Eveleth). In the eyes of the law, murdering someone to eat is wrong, but the act of eating a human is not. To Americans the simple thought of eating another human is sickening. To most that is true, but to others consuming human flesh is a way of life. Some cultures practice cannibalism for their own spiritual beliefs and others have to eat human flesh to survive. Human flesh has proteins most want when eating meat. The act of eating human meat has gotten a bad reputation over the years, looking back in history, people thousands of years ago have different views. Cannibalism is a way to survive, with the proteins necessary to do so, and a way for cultures to express their beliefs. Cannibalism is a taboo topic most people do not know enough about. People eat people for a variety of reasons, the most well known being killers getting a thrill from eating their victims. Although not everyone who is a cannibal gets a high from eating humans, Americans still see it as evil. • 27. Fat Sick And Nearly Dead Analysis Hayden Yost Dr. Burns Eng 101 Nov. 15th, 2017 Is Juice Fasting Alone Enough for College Students? Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross, recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. This, combined with his realizing what is bound to happen if nothing changes pushes Cross to making the decision to shift his life onto a path promising a much happier future. The documentary begins with a melancholic but determined Joe Cross and follows his 60 day travels across the United States sharing his journey, goal, and progress made under the juice fast. As time passes, the viewer witnesses the changes Cross experiences, as he grows more optimistic, outgoing, and determined to where he chooses to incorporate regular exercise alongside his juice fast journey. The Development of Chondrocranium of Chondrichthyes Essay Chondrichthyes possess a skeleton that differs considerably from other species in that their skeletons are made up of cartilage rather than bone. This project gives insight on the normal developmental pattern of the chondrocranium of a chondrichthyan, using the little skate, Leucoraja erinacea as a model organism. This is demonstrated by using histological techniques to visualize and describe this sequence of chondrocranium development, focusing on two stages of development. In the context of what is morphologically known from their relative taxas and other chondrichthyans, the developmental pattern that occurs in these two stages is given in detail. The little skate, Leucoraja erinacea, is a chondrichthyan that is a key model organism for chondrichthyan embryology studies. As an oviparous species, after internal fertilization its development is independent of its mother, encapsulated in a laid, moderately thin keratinized egg case during embryonic development. These embryos receive nourishment via a yolk sac located in the egg case and remain capsuled during development for approximately 6 9 months (Figure 2a j). As an oviparous species, they are amenable to experimental embryological manipulation and therefore are important as a model organism. The thionamide drugs, propylthiouracil, carbimazole, and its active metabolite methimazole, have been in use to treat thyrotoxicosis for more than 60 years. A meta analysis of randomised controlled trials showed long term remission of hyperthyroid Graves disease in about 50% of those treated with thionamide drugs for a prolonged period. Carbimazole or methimazole are preferred in most situations, as a small risk of serious liver injury (about 1 in 10 000 adults) has recently been highlighted during propylthiouracil use. In addition, carbimazole or methimazole can be taken once daily rather than every eight or 12 hours as is the case for propylthiouracil, and the longer half life leads to more rapid control. All inhibit the function of TPO, reducing oxidation and organification of iodide. These drugs also reduce thyroid antibody levels by mechanisms that remain unclear, and they appear to enhance rates of remission After euthyroidism is achieved, two different regimens can be employed. In the first regimen, termed block replace, the dose of thionamide is kept constant, thus blocking thyroid hormone production, and levothyroxine is then added in a suitable dose to maintain euthyroidism. In the second regimen, termed titrated, the thionamide dose is progressively lowered at regular intervals to allow endogenous synthesis of thyroid hormone to continue in a regulated fashion Subtotal or near total thyroidectomy is an option for patients who relapse after antithyroid drugs ...
