Satire and Propaganda Essay
Many see propaganda as undermining reason. Propaganda works with the emotions to get a mass to do
a certain action. Since propaganda tries to remain hidden, are there any in the world who see it and try
to uncover such propaganda? Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers challenge the
conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does satire function in
relation to propaganda? First, one must define propaganda and since many have done so already, I
shall use the Sheryl Ross model. Her model defines propaganda as an epistemically defective message
designed with the intention to persuade a socially significant group of people on behalf of a political
institution, organization, or cause. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jon Stewart treats the pundits as well as the political figures as propaganda. He discovers the falsities

Therefore, one can treat The Daily Show as propaganda. However, since The Daily Show contains
both truth and falsities, it can appear to be propagandistic, but if one were to analyze the arguments in

entertainment together. Now The Colbert Report is a different

The Epic of Beowulf
Beowulf is the oldest anglo saxon poem written in English. The poem describes the heroic deeds of
Beowulf in his fight against monsters. Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in Denmark,
the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation.
Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from
Scandinavia.
The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather.
Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king that
dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to
fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end.
Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is
recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his
adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist,
Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength
and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now,
Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have done
many glorious deed.
The episodes of the poem are moving ahead step by step; this literary procedure is called

British Airways Case Study
In this individual assignment, reading material, including the different ways companies innovate, re
energize a mature organization, and change corporate culture, provide the basis for analyzing British
Airways (BA) transformation and the challenges encountered in making an organizational change.
Identification of critical factors leading to their successful transformation as well as the steps,
sequence, and risks taken to transform the organization and personal assessment of what could have
been done differently is provided in this case study.
Connection of British Airways case to re energizing the mature organization
The re energizing the mature organization reading was relevant to the BA case through the company s
recognition of the need to overcome challenges to renew, understanding and practicing the principles
of renewal, and putting in place leadership and work activities necessary to accomplish the re
energized effort. As a mature organization that was struggling, BA faced opportunities for change that
needed to focus not only internally, but externally as well. Beatty and Ulrich (1991) note (as cited in
Jick Peiperl, 2011, p. 39) that given such challenges, mature organizations need to build internal
organizational processes that meet external customer requirements.

Clifford Geertz s Focus on the Power of Religion
Clifford Geertz has focused more on the symbolic power of religion. He has talked about the fact that
it is the symbolic power of religion that has a strong influence on the people. It is the religion, in
accordance to Clifford that helps the people in understanding the place that the people have in the
world. The actions that are undertaken by the people are also defined by the religion. Based on the
arguments that have been given by Clifford, it can be added here that there is a great effect of religion
and the religious values on the kind of politics being observed in the nations (Pals 309). When we talk
about the religion, it can be added here that we are talking about the set of beliefs as well as the ethical
values, which are used in the creation of the world and the ways in which the world is managed. So
where does the symbolic state of religion stand in the modern political world. One of the main facts
that need to be mentioned here is that politics is related with the development certain motivations in
men. These motivations need to be powerful and long lasting. It has been found in the case of the
definition of religion by Geertz. He has added that religion provides a set of symbols that develop long
lasting, modulations in the people. There is no doubt about the fact that the politics and democracy has
more to do with the development of strong states and nations. There needs to be a general order of
existence in the nations and states, which leads to strong

The Theme Of Revenge In The Jungle Book
The Jungle Books is a series of classic stories written by famous author Rudyard Kipling. The stories
are separated into two books; The Jungle Book (1894) and The Second Jungle Book (1895) and were
first published in magazines in England in 1984 5. One may say the stories can be regarded as classic
stories told by an adult to children. They are fables where animals can talk and live in harmony
according to The Law of the Jungle . However, the stories are teaching moral lessons that are
inspirational for both adults and children. The stories contains powers that challenge The Law of the
Jungle and force the jungle animals to fight while Mowgli , the stories protagonist makes a self
discovery that changes him forever. This essay will discuss this self discovery with the theme of
revenge in the Mowgli stories in The Jungle Books.

revenge. There are several noticeable facts that stress this statement. First of all, Shere Khan hates ...

be beneficial depending on the situation and circumstances. On one hand, revenge could make one do
things that are not good. Shere Khan was breaking the rules in The Law of the Jungle and every
animal was afraid of him because of that. He was trying to kill Mowgli by doing everything that was
necessary and was therefore alone with nobody that cared for him. However, as we have learned by
Mowgli revenge may be beneficial for some. Mowgli saved all the jungle animals from Shere Khan by
killing him, which made the jungle once again in order. Mowgli made a self discovery that in fact he
was a human and was capable of doing good, rather than bad, as Shere Khan was trying to convince
the jungle animals that Mowgli some day in the future would

##equality In A Dolls House And A Midsummer Night s Dream
Both Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream portray men as
superior, leading to a common theme of gender inequality and discrimination within relationships. In
Shakespeare s work, there is a comical aspect, downplaying the societal issue, but Ibsen s work is very
dramatic, casting a more serious light on the sexual discrimination. In Ibsen s work, A Doll s House,
the setting is 1879, during the Victorian Era. During this time, women were assigned to an inferior
role: Stay home and attend to the children and housekeeping while the men work. This system rested
on the idea that women were inferior to men, the two genders not socially nor legally equal. Nora is
the primary example of a woman constricted by social role. From the very beginning of the play, it is
clear that Torvald holds all of the power in the relationship. Nora is treated as a child, being called
discriminating names such as spendthrift , squirrel , little lark , etc. My little songbird must never do
that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with no false notes! (Ibsen 26). She is also set
to a certain standard and has to obey Torvald s rules. For example, Nora is banned from eating
macaroons because they will rot her teeth. Controlling what Nora may and may not eat shows just
how constricted and imprisoned she really is. Not only does he control her and what she does, but he
insults her as well. Torvald states, Of course! If only this obstinate little person can get her way! (Ibsen
35). Do you think I was going to let her remain there after that, and spoil the effect? (Ibsen 53). Nora
is confined to the societal values that show she needs a man by her side in order to take care of her and
to live. Surely you can understand that being with Torvald is a little like being with papa. (Ibsen 217).
This shows that for most of Nora s life, she s been under the control of a man. She wasn t only under
his control, but begged him for things like money as well, furthering her need for a man. Mrs. Linde
also plays a stereotypical role, fulfilled by the happiness and service of others. I only feel my life
unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore. (Ibsen 143). She also states I want to

The Crucible By Nicholas Hytner Essay
The movie I chose to research was the crucible, directed by Nicholas Hytner but written by Arthur
Miller. This film starred a young Wynona Ryder along with Daniel day Lewis and Paul Scofield.
Originally released on November 27th 1996, the film was well received even being nominated for an
Oscar in 1997, along with 26 additional academy awards that year, sadly it only won 4. Of course a
film about witchcraft, an affair, and people being hanged would spark controversy especially since it
was rated at pg 13 but nothing major was said about this. On the other hand Rolling stone magazine
said In the film s most complex role, Day Lewis performs with quiet power. Playing nobility can make
actors insufferable, but Day Lewis keeps John Proctor human even when saddled with smudgy
makeup and fake brown teeth for his final scene. Giving the film an overall positive review. The film

Comparing The Pyramid Of The Sun And The Ise Jingu
Among many of the world s most outstanding structures, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Ise Jingu are
exceptional sacred spaces. Built by ancient civilizations, both structures carry deep cultural
significance. Both these spaces share profound ancient traditions and longevity while embracing two
very different religious trains of thought. Consequently, each structure has comparable history but
rather diverse use.
The Pyramid of the Sun located in Teotihuacan is a four tier, stepped pyramid. This enormous
earthwork covers some 13 acres and is considered one of the largest stepped pyramids in the world
(Dewitte et al 440). However the structure s significance goes further than its sheer feat of primitive

The cave in many historic accounts is the beginning of life and the dwelling place of gods and
guardians. Thus the Pyramid and the cave symbolize the existence and duration of life. Consequently
the location of the Pyramid is very significant. By itself the pyramid is simply a grand structure.
However, because the Pyramid is constructed upon a series of caverns and a natural springs it is
crucial to the religious system. Caves are considered the womb of the earth and springs are the
openings to the underworld and to the earth gods (Heyden 134,141). The Pyramid is then a grand
monument to the origin of life and a bridge to the spirit realm. Furthermore, the Pyramids physical
orientation is also significant. The structure has four corners and the cave beneath has four chambers
which are believed to be homage to the earth fertility gods and associated with the cardinal direction
(Heyden 141). Additionally the pyramid also faces west, toward the setting sun which further
emphasizes the structure s sacred overtones (Dewitte et al 440). Therefore, the pyramid not only has
spiritual importance, but the location upon which the Pyramid sits is especially

Motive For Murder In Hamlet
Murder often represents the revenge or hatred felt by a desperate soul attempting to fill an empty
space. Shakespeare s Hamlet Prince of Denmark is full of death, but the true purpose behind tragic
murders is buried beneath a cynical reason. King Claudius slowly unravels the details of his dirty act,
and Queen Gertrude, Hamlet, and Ophelia all have a part in the deaths that occur throughout this
eventful play. The crimes that are committed only help to destroy the pitiful existence that each of
these characters portray. The horrific murders that take place throughout Shakespeare s Hamlet
provide the motive for revenge by the characters of Claudius, Hamlet, Ophelia, Laertes and Gertrude.

Ophelia is a confusing and emotional character because her body does not match her mind;
mesmerizing on the outside but devious on the inside. Her life is constantly surrounded by men who
have either taken advantage of her beauty or people who believe she is actually going insane. King
Claudius and Hamlet are prime examples of men who continually disrespect her kind heart. Letters are
given back to Hamlet by Ophelia and this causes an intense conflict between these two artful
characters. Hamlet becomes extremely upset and states, That if you be honest and fair, your honesty
should admit no discourse to your beauty (Shakespeare 3.1. 107 108). Her destiny appears to be in a
nunnery to prevent her dreadful life from progressing to insanity, but reality snatches her first. Ophelia
s motive of revenge is brought upon several characters through a shameful crime; suicide. Her lifeless
body floats in a bed of water surrounded by flowers after the drowning occurs. Shakespeare s brilliant
imagery provides the reader with an insight of just how peaceful her death is, but it also guides the
reader towards why she killed herself in the first place. Revenge is the main reason of Ophelia s
suicide and her wishes come true after her brother, Laertes, is deeply affected. His sister has just died,
and he is desperate to prove himself worthy of living

An essential theme that is politically and socially relevant to the film is the idea of rich versus poor. In
Panem, the wealth is heavily represented as the governments and the game makers behind the Hunger

huge disparity between the lives of the wealthly and the poor. Researchers believed that the alleviation

Congenital Heart Disease ( Chd )
Congenital Heart disease (CHD)
Congenital heart disease is also known as Congenital heart defect or congenital cardiovascular
malformations. The word congenital means existing at birth. Congenital heart defects change the
normal flow of blood to the heart. CHD is the most common type of birth defect, this disease affects 8
out of every 1,000 newborns. More than 35,000 babies each year in the United States are born with a
congenital heart defect.
If you have a congenital heart defect it means your heart has a problem with its structure when you
were born. Defects may involve the inferior walls of the heart, the valves inside the heart, the arteries
and veins that carry the blood to the heart or the body. You may also be born with a small hole in your
heart or it could be more severe. In these cases there may be very serious conditions, but many of
which can be treated with surgery.
Congenital heart disease include many different types of defects. Some of these defects are simple,
such as a hole in the septum. Others, are more complex and severe that include combinations of
simple defects, problems with the location of blood vessels leading to and from the heart and other
serious problems with the development of the heart. The different types of defects ranging from
simple to complex are holes in the heart (septal defects or atrial septal defects ASD), Patent Ductus
Arteriosus (PDA abnormal blood flow occurs between the aorta and pulmonary artery), Narrowed

Sarbanes Oxley Act Of 2002 (SOX)
The Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002(SOX), also known as the public company accounting reform and

attractive to investors. However the investors did not know that the success of these companies were

Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act
Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.
Andrew Jackson
President Andrew Jackson said this. As most people know he wasn t all that he was suppose to be,
unless didn t like Indians either. This brings me to my point about his idea to move the
Indians from their homelands. His idea is known as the Indian Removal Act. This ended up paving the
way for the Trail of Tears.
The Indian Removal Act played a major part in the Trail of Tears. This act was passed on
May 28 in the year 1830, and signed into law by President Andrew Jackson. He felt as if the land the
Indians lived on were needed by the whites for growing in population. He came up with this act
because he knew exactly how to persuade

Delight In Disorder By Ben Herrick Summary
The poems Delight in Disorder by Robert Herrick and Still to be Neat by Ben Johnson display similar
themes. Both poems are written about natural beauty, Delight in Disorder , focuses more on the
careless beauty while Still to be Neat focuses on the simplicity of natural beauty. Although these two
poems are extremely similar because of their themes they are also different. Both authors aim to
unveil the true meaning of beauty through being natural and having a balance between disorder and
order in one s appearance. In Delight in disorder , Herrick describes a woman that is dressed without
extreme care and her detail is more enticing and captivating than a woman who has put all their energy
and effort into dressing up. Herrick writes in lines 11 14, A careless shoestring, in whose tie I see a
wild civility; Do more bewitch me than when art is too precise in every part (766), in these lines he is
describing the elegance of the woman s imperfections. Herrick is emphasizing in his poem that if a
woman takes extreme care in her appearance it can make her seem rigid and uptight. Herrick believes
that a woman whose appearance is disorganized comes across as easy going, and more approachable.
Ben Johnson s, Still to be Neat , the woman is described in line 9 as neatly dressed from her hair to her
makeup along with her loosely flowing clothes (767). Johnson is describing that he prefers and natural
beauty rather than the artificial beauty described in the poem. The

Jewish Christian Relations Essay
While we speak about the tenuous relationship between Christians and Jews dating back to the time of
Christ, the seeds for the schism within Judaism may have been planted more than 500 years prior.
Jeremiah was one of a group of distinguished prophets whose works became part of the Old Testament
canon. The Jewish quot;wisdom quot; prophets lectured, warned and blamed all who would listen
about the sins of their own people, the resulting punishments that God had prescribed for them, and
what they had to do to get back into God s good graces.
Some prophets targeted Jewish monarchs as an idolatrous distraction which prevented the people from
properly hearing the Word of God. Other prophets still maintained that ... Show more content on

quot; The Old Israel along with its Old Testament...had been succeeded, fulfilled, completed, replaced,

quot; said Rabbi A. James Rudin about the Christian attitude during the formative years of the Church
(Fisher, Rudin, Tannebaum 9).
Sensitivity relating to the perceived expiration of the first Mosaic covenant has brought forth a minor
controversy in recent decades about the political correctness of referring to the Old Testament as being
quot;old. quot; Some Catholic Scripture professors express a preference for quot;Hebrew Scriptures,
quot; while others apologetically retain the old reference to prevent confusion. (Pazcuzzi 2/97). The
issue of Judaism having been superceded by Christianity will be addressed at various points in this
paper.
In addition to the writings of Jeremiah, other Old Testament works written in the centuries prior to the
birth Christ pointed to the coming of a messiah to save the Jewish people from their continuing history
of enslavement, persecution, and dislocation. Some Jews waited for a David like king to rescue them.
Others felt that Jesus Christ who had suffered for the sins of his people, the one who had endured and
conquered death was the true messiah. Whether the messiah had come or the messiah was still yet to
come was the key issue between the Jews who remained Jews during the first and succeeding
centuries versus those who

The Dolphin Is A Breed Of Dolphin
Maui s dolphin is a breed of dolphin that is slowly heading toward extinction, as they are a very
endangered subspecies (1). On the North West coast of the North Island in New Zealand (between
Dargaville and New Plymouth) lays isolated areas, which is where the Maui dolphin can be found,
normally found in groups of approximately 1 to 5 dolphins within about 5 nautical miles of the shore.
(2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m
and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and
sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable
dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed
on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food
chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in
2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats
to Maui s dolphins the subspecies is in population decline holding a survival rate of 84% and a
population decline rate of 2.8% per year, these statistics were taken between the years of 2001 and

Out Of This Furnace By Thomas Bell Essay
Out of this Furnace is a fictional novel by Thomas Bell which is based on true events from the 18th
century. It is a well written tale of Slovak immigrants who came to the United States in search of
better opportunities than they had in their old country. The story revolves around four main characters:
Djuro Kracha, Kracha s daughter Mary, Mary s husband, Mike Dobrejcak, and, their son Dobie. As
history tells us, many early immigrants who moved to America had either of these motives: financial
prosperity, social status and societal freedom. Similarly, as the story unfolds, we see that all of these
characters became subject to harsh conditions and that each of them went through their own version of
struggle. This novel has succeeded in enlightening us about the great effort that these Slovak
immigrants made against the issues that encountered them in America. They faced numerous
hardships in the form of underpaid and unsafe jobs, poor residence and other types of inequalities.
Kracha, like most of the immigrants, moved to America by boat in 1881 for financial growth, because
of the opportunities in his old country, Hungary, were too scarce for him to climb the financial ladder.
He had a wife back at home, who at the time was pregnant. During this time, America opened its
borders to a wave of immigrants, who were mainly inexperienced laborers. As America was stepping
into the age of industrialization, the demand for cheaper labor went up and therefore, to meet this

The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle Essay
The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle
The three periods of development I will cover in this piece of coursework are the Norman Period, the
Medieval Period and the Elizabethan Period.
Each period had many different updates installed due to new threats and advances in technology.
Norman Period 1070 1130:
The castle began its existence as a Saxon burgh, which was discovered by William Fitzosbern, owner
of the Isle of Wight, which was given to him by King William 1st. Fitzosbern proceeded to convert the
partly existing burgh into a wooden motte and bailey castle by firstly constructing a campaign fort in

Brattices (small wooden sheds) were also attached to wall by small jutting stones; these could be built
quickly and were effective for defence. The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The walls
were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop the
wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow archers to
shoot from quickly and not get hit by enemy fire. We saw evidence of this on the
Carisbrooke Castle fieldtrip, where there were small notches in the stone for the flap hinges.
The main gatehouse and drawbridge, with two square towers on either side, was built in 1136 too.
Between the two sturdy gates and portcullises was the murder zone , which allowed defenders to pour
hot oil and sand etc over invaders as they tried to enter. Later developments to the gatehouse at around
1378 included the square towers being changed to circular drum towers and crossbow loopholes being
added because of the aforementioned device being invented. Another major development around this
period was the barbican. The barbican ensured that to get close to the gatehouse, invading troops
would have to walk around the barbican first exposing their sides to fire from the drum towers.
The earthworks were adorned with

Have you ever closed your eyes and envisioned a world of nothing? Have you ever stopped and

many, the answer is yes, but for even more the answer is no. People seldom take the time to
understand and appreciate the uniqueness that each of us possesses. For this reason, people are often
uneducated about those individuals who live with various disabilities on a daily basis. Society has
become so accustomed to turning a cold shoulder to those members who are less fortunate by no fault
of their own and now this cruel behavior of discrimination is somewhat the norm in the world today.

Bub s wife had read for Robert ten years prior to the visit and the two had kept in touch by sending

felt that working for Robert was something extraordinarily meaningful that had happened in her life.
Although Robert has just lost his wife, this is no excuse for Bub to show any courtesy to the man; after

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to
enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin
succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more

nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the
cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage
and pain. Sewell s novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England,

Privacy And Freedom From Government Intrusion
Although people in the United States are entitled to privacy and freedom from government intrusion,
there is a limit to that privacy. State or federal police officers are allowed, where justified, to search
your premises, car, or other property in order to look for and seize illegal items, stolen goods or
evidence of a crime. There are certain rules that the police must follow when engaging in searches and
seizures (FindLaw, 2014). Not every search, seizure, or arrest must be made pursuant to a lawfully
executed warrant. The Supreme Court has ruled that warrantless police conduct may comply with the
Fourth Amendment so long as it is reasonable under the circumstances (FindLaw, 2014). First, this

examples of court cases concerning search and seizure of vehicles and the Fourth Amendment. Third,
this paper examines the Richmond VA 2nd Precinct Police Departments policies, procedures, and
practice of conducting vehicle searches. This paper examines the Richmond, VA 2nd precincts policies
for vehicle trunk searches, searches that are conducted after the driver has being arrested, searches on
impounded vehicles, searches on abandoned vehicles, and searches of vehicle passenger s
compartments and containers. Of interest will be if their policies and procedures or practice complies

The Issue of Accounting Entity Definition in Regards to...
The UK public sector has been transformed over the past few decades. In an increasingly global
economy, the main lever by which central governments can influence the success of the domestic
economy is by ensuring its public sector operates efficiently. The central governments of the
developed economies have adopted similar change agendas to transform their public sectors. These
change agendas entail the introduction of new structures, new kinds of organizations and a reinvention
of many parts of the public sector. The intention of successive governments has been the creation of a
New Public Sector , which is more strategic and corporate in its thinking. This New Public Sector is
intended to replace a public sector characterized by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite of that definition, the creation of an accounting entity is also a political process with
potentially huge implications. Kurunmäki states that the boundaries which describe an organization as
an economic unit separate from other units are not as clear cut, natural or fixed as the accounting
entity assumption implies . To which extent does NOMS now fulfill the above described
requirements? What are the issues involved in the representation of NOMS as an accounting entity?
By defining NOMS as an accounting entity, the financial controls involved seek to limit accountability
to the very institution which is fair to say and in line with the so called market based New Public
Sector reforms (Arnold, 1991). As a consequence, NOMS has to face the challenge to act within a
managerial, instead of an administrative culture. When looking for example at healthcare reforms
throughout Western Europe during the late 1970s and 1980, we find out that before introducing those
reforms and seeing hospitals as accounting entities, several problems occurred: Poor management
followed by arm s length management, with organizational actions guided by practices rooted in a
rationality that privileged professional or clan over bureaucratic or managerial forms of control
(Kurunmäki, 1999). These associated problems could be

Surveillance Cameras Should Be Public Places
Surveillance Cameras Earlier this year my brother and I were hit by a white Ford truck, while riding to
school. The driver of the truck quickly sped off immediately after the accident, leaving us scared, and
confused and the car totaled. If only there was a surveillance camera that could have witnessed it. The
camera could have got a clear view of his license plate, or even him. More surveillance cameras
should be installed in public places because they are useful for catching criminals, protecting people,
and growing the economy. Every day there are property crimes, assault crimes personal crimes and if
there is a way to benefit the safety the citizens it should be taken advantage of. First, the more
surveillance cameras that are in an area the lower the rate of the criminal participating in criminal
activity (Brown). Research shows that surveillance cameras are not as effective in all locations and
crimes, but there is evidence that they decrease property crime rates (Brown). There are already
surveillance cameras at most stop lights and in most stores to capture images of people in case
someone breaks the law, but if there were more surveillance in public places it would be easier to
catch crimes other than just someone running a red light or shoplifting. For example, if a child was
kidnapped, the police would already have video evidence of the kidnapper. This would make it easier
to identify the person. Overall, more surveillance would make police investigations

How Does Laurie Halse Anderson Use Allusions In Speak
On a dark august night, Melinda and Rachel went to an end of summer party. Feeling out of place,
Melinda resorted to drinking. Once she took a step out, she was confronted and assaulted by a senior
named Andy Evans. Melinda felt small and just wanted to say no but the words couldn t find their way
out. That was the night that Melinda got raped. Melinda s conflict with herself continues as she tries to
overcome the events of that night. In the realistic fiction novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, the
author uses symbolism and allusions to show how Melinda struggles to overcome the rape throughout
the novel. Symbolism is widely used in Speak to suggest something more of an object. Colors are big
symbols as they convey Melinda s thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate this, Anderson compares Melinda to a dryad (p.17). Dryads originate from Greek
mythology and it is the female spirit of a tree. The life of a dryad is connected to a tree. Dryads also
tend to be shy creatures. Metaphorically, the author is trying to imply that teenagers are in the stage of
development and growth, just like plants. Melinda is still growing and overcoming her rape. Anderson
also makes allusions to literature to compare and contrast Melinda s story to stories of other
characters. To exemplify, Maya Angelou is mentioned quite frequently. In her novel I know why the
caged bird sings, (p.50) she writes about how she was raped by Mr. Freeman. She can t talk and is
helped by someone with a name of a plant. Anderson uses irony since in the novel Speak, Mr.
Freeman is the one who helps Melinda grow. Also, metaphorically comparing Angelou and Maya, we
can foreshadow what happens next (the rape). When Melinda finds her closet, she discovers a
shattered mirror which symbolizes her past and she tries to cover it up with a picture of Maya Angelou
(which is not better.) The poster which symbolizes her rape and secrets doesn t help Melinda grow.
Another example would be The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. (p.100) Melinda mentions
[Hester] is kind of quiet. We would get along. (p.101) Melinda is comparing herself to Hester Prynne,
a character in Hawthorne s novel who has to wear a red letter A to mark her guilt. Both Melinda and
Hester feel like outcasts and are a shame in society. Anderson also uses allusions by mentioning the
suffragettes (p.154). The suffragettes were people who stood up against unfair treatment of women. To
get extra credit, Melinda has to write a report and present it to the class. Being that Melinda doesn t
speak, she and David Petrakis, her lab partner, make a plan. Instead of talking, Melinda gives

Unlike conventional airplanes, rotary winged aircrafts have a fundamental advantage in that lift and
control are relatively independent of forward speed. Rotary aircrafts do not need a runway and have
much more freedom and maneuverability in the air. Despite early efforts to fly using rotary winged
devices as well as the mentioned advantages, the first successful flight came from a fixed wing aircraft
[2]. The development of rotor technology paved the path for the creation of the quadcopter. Etienne
Oehmichen successfully built the first quadrotor in 1922 called the Oehmichen No. 2. A single 120
horsepower engine powered the four rotors of this machine. However, due to a lack of control of
individual rotors, the altitude and orientation could not be varied. To combat this issue, four additional
propellers were attached to better direct the movement of the quadrotor [3]. Modern quadcopters do
not rely on additional propellers to maneuver themselves. Instead, each rotor can be manipulated to
perform virtually any aerial move. Today, quadcopters are used in many areas of industry due to their
reliability, cost effectiveness and multi functionality. The most widely known uses come from
photography and the military. Quadcopters are constantly seen being used in sports media coverage,
recreational and professional filming,

Tachycardia Research Paper
What is tachycardia?
Tachycardia refers to an abnormally fast resting heart rate usually at least 100 beats per minute. The
threshold of a normal heart rate (pulse) is generally based on the person s age. Tachycardia can be
dangerous; depending on how hard the heart has to work.In general, the adult resting heart beats
between 60 and 100 times per minute (some doctors place the healthy limit at 90, so some of them
may diagnose tachycardia at slightly lower than 100 beats per minute). When an individual has
tachycardia the upper or lower chambers of the heart beat significantly faster sometimes this happens
to both chambers.
When the heart beats too rapidly, it pumps less efficiently and blood flow to the rest of the body,
including the heart itself is reduced. The higher than normal heartbeat means there is an increase in
demand for oxygen by the myocardium (heart muscle) if this persists it can lead to myocardial
infarction (heart attack), caused by the dying off of oxygen starved myocardial cells. Some patients
with tachycardia may have no symptoms or complications. Tachycardia significantly increases the risk
of stroke, sudden cardiac arrest or death. Our heart rates are controlled by electrical signals which are
sent across heart tissues. When the heart produces rapid electrical signals tachycardia occurs. ... Show

Ban The Use Of Guns By Civilians
Pierce Hodges Mrs. Desanto Research paper Feb 9, 2015 A Call to Ban the use of Guns by Civilians
Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired,
signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are
not clothed. (citation) Guns are a major source of crisis in our nation today, and as President
Eisenhower speaks to in this quote, firearms take something away from society. We are supposed to be
a peaceful and civilized nation, but because of guns, we are becoming a violent nation and a disaster.

In that same situation, with no gun around, there is a much less chance of someone being severely
injured or killed. Many people suggest securing schools more by doing things like locking all doors,
bullet proof vestibules, mandatory ID and background checks, and even microchips monitoring people
s whereabouts in the school. All of these things may help, but the problem is much bigger than the
schools. The problem is in the access to guns that our laws allow. The use of guns by civilians should
be banned because, the statistics show that the more guns, the more chance for violence. The military
and law enforcement should be the only ones legally allowed to carry guns. When our forefathers
drafted the Bill of Rights with the Second Amendment protecting the individual right to possess
firearms, the society and the motive was different. it was a limited right and they left some authority
over it to the government. The government is able to limit this, so seeing how guns are negatively
affecting our society, they should use their power. There is no reason why so many people, living in
what is supposed to be a peaceful society, possess guns. About 16,272 murders were committed in the
United States during 2014. Of these, about 10,886, or 67%, were committed with firearms. A

The Crisis Management Lesson From Toyota And Gm
The Crisis Management Lesson from Toyota and GM: It s Our Problem the Moment We Hear About It
Delay in confronting crises is deadly. Corporate leaders must have processes for learning of important

management is the ultimate stress test for the CEO and other top leaders of companies. The mantra for
all leaders in crisis management must be: It is our problem the moment we hear about it. We will be

These are key lessons for leaders in all types of businesses from the front page stories about Toyota s

possibly linked to product defects.

Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers challenge the conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does satire function in relation to propaganda? First, one must define propaganda and since many have done so already, I shall use the Sheryl Ross model. Her model defines propaganda as an epistemically defective message designed with the intention to persuade a socially significant group of people on behalf of a political institution, organization, or cause. ... Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in Denmark, the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation. Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from Scandinavia. The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather. Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king that dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end. Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist, Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now, Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have done many glorious deed. • 7. Clifford Geertz s Focus on the Power of Religion Clifford Geertz has focused more on the symbolic power of religion. He has talked about the fact that it is the symbolic power of religion that has a strong influence on the people. It is the religion, in accordance to Clifford that helps the people in understanding the place that the people have in the world. The actions that are undertaken by the people are also defined by the religion. Based on the arguments that have been given by Clifford, it can be added here that there is a great effect of religion and the religious values on the kind of politics being observed in the nations (Pals 309). When we talk about the religion, it can be added here that we are talking about the set of beliefs as well as the ethical values, which are used in the creation of the world and the ways in which the world is managed. So where does the symbolic state of religion stand in the modern political world. One of the main facts that need to be mentioned here is that politics is related with the development certain motivations in men. These motivations need to be powerful and long lasting. It has been found in the case of the definition of religion by Geertz. He has added that religion provides a set of symbols that develop long lasting, modulations in the people. • 15. ##equality In A Dolls House And A Midsummer Night s Dream Both Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream portray men as superior, leading to a common theme of gender inequality and discrimination within relationships. In Shakespeare s work, there is a comical aspect, downplaying the societal issue, but Ibsen s work is very dramatic, casting a more serious light on the sexual discrimination. In Ibsen s work, A Doll s House, the setting is 1879, during the Victorian Era. During this time, women were assigned to an inferior role: Stay home and attend to the children and housekeeping while the men work. This system rested on the idea that women were inferior to men, the two genders not socially nor legally equal. Nora is the primary example of a woman constricted by social role. From the very beginning of the play, it is clear that Torvald holds all of the power in the relationship. Nora is treated as a child, being called discriminating names such as spendthrift , squirrel , little lark , etc. My little songbird must never do that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with no false notes! (Ibsen 26). She is also set to a certain standard and has to obey Torvald s rules. For example, Nora is banned from eating macaroons because they will rot her teeth. Controlling what Nora may and may not eat shows just how constricted and imprisoned she really is. Not only does he control her and what she does, but he insults her as well. Torvald states, Of course! If only this obstinate little person can get her way! (Ibsen 35). Do you think I was going to let her remain there after that, and spoil the effect? (Ibsen 53). Nora is confined to the societal values that show she needs a man by her side in order to take care of her and to live. Surely you can understand that being with Torvald is a little like being with papa. (Ibsen 217). This shows that for most of Nora s life, she s been under the control of a man. She wasn t only under his control, but begged him for things like money as well, furthering her need for a man. Mrs. Linde also plays a stereotypical role, fulfilled by the happiness and service of others. I only feel my life unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore. (Ibsen 143). Of course a film about witchcraft, an affair, and people being hanged would spark controversy especially since it was rated at pg 13 but nothing major was said about this. Both poems are written about natural beauty, Delight in Disorder , focuses more on the careless beauty while Still to be Neat focuses on the simplicity of natural beauty. Although these two poems are extremely similar because of their themes they are also different. Both authors aim to unveil the true meaning of beauty through being natural and having a balance between disorder and order in one s appearance. In Delight in disorder , Herrick describes a woman that is dressed without extreme care and her detail is more enticing and captivating than a woman who has put all their energy and effort into dressing up. Herrick writes in lines 11 14, A careless shoestring, in whose tie I see a wild civility; Do more bewitch me than when art is too precise in every part (766), in these lines he is describing the elegance of the woman s imperfections. The Jewish quot;wisdom quot; prophets lectured, warned and blamed all who would listen about the sins of their own people, the resulting punishments that God had prescribed for them, and what they had to do to get back into God s good graces. Some prophets targeted Jewish monarchs as an idolatrous distraction which prevented the people from properly hearing the Word of God. Other prophets still maintained that ... James Rudin about the Christian attitude during the formative years of the Church (Fisher, Rudin, Tannebaum 9). Sensitivity relating to the perceived expiration of the first Mosaic covenant has brought forth a minor controversy in recent decades about the political correctness of referring to the Old Testament as being quot;old. quot; Some Catholic Scripture professors express a preference for quot;Hebrew Scriptures, quot; while others apologetically retain the old reference to prevent confusion. (Pazcuzzi 2/97). The issue of Judaism having been superceded by Christianity will be addressed at various points in this paper. In addition to the writings of Jeremiah, other Old Testament works written in the centuries prior to the birth Christ pointed to the coming of a messiah to save the Jewish people from their continuing history of enslavement, persecution, and dislocation. Some Jews waited for a David like king to rescue them. Others felt that Jesus Christ who had suffered for the sins of his people, the one who had endured and conquered death was the true messiah. Whether the messiah had come or the messiah was still yet to come was the key issue between the Jews who remained Jews during the first and succeeding centuries versus those who ... (2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in 2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats to Maui s dolphins the subspecies is in population decline holding a survival rate of 84% and a population decline rate of 2.8% per year, these statistics were taken between the years of 2001 and 2011 (9). • 30. Out Of This Furnace By Thomas Bell Essay Out of this Furnace is a fictional novel by Thomas Bell which is based on true events from the 18th century. It is a well written tale of Slovak immigrants who came to the United States in search of better opportunities than they had in their old country. The story revolves around four main characters: Djuro Kracha, Kracha s daughter Mary, Mary s husband, Mike Dobrejcak, and, their son Dobie. As history tells us, many early immigrants who moved to America had either of these motives: financial prosperity, social status and societal freedom. Similarly, as the story unfolds, we see that all of these characters became subject to harsh conditions and that each of them went through their own version of struggle. This novel has succeeded in enlightening us about the great effort that these Slovak immigrants made against the issues that encountered them in America. They faced numerous hardships in the form of underpaid and unsafe jobs, poor residence and other types of inequalities. Kracha, like most of the immigrants, moved to America by boat in 1881 for financial growth, because of the opportunities in his old country, Hungary, were too scarce for him to climb the financial ladder. He had a wife back at home, who at the time was pregnant. During this time, America opened its borders to a wave of immigrants, who were mainly inexperienced laborers. The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle Essay The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle The three periods of development I will cover in this piece of coursework are the Norman Period, the Medieval Period and the Elizabethan Period. Each period had many different updates installed due to new threats and advances in technology. Norman Period 1070 1130: The castle began its existence as a Saxon burgh, which was discovered by William Fitzosbern, owner of the Isle of Wight, which was given to him by King William 1st. Fitzosbern proceeded to convert the partly existing burgh into a wooden motte and bailey castle by firstly constructing a campaign fort in one corner, as stated in The Carisbrooke Castle Official Guide Book ... The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The walls were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop the wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow archers to shoot from quickly and not get hit by enemy fire. We saw evidence of this on the Carisbrooke Castle fieldtrip, where there were small notches in the stone for the flap hinges. The main gatehouse and drawbridge, with two square towers on either side, was built in 1136 too. Between the two sturdy gates and portcullises was the murder zone , which allowed defenders to pour hot oil and sand etc over invaders as they tried to enter. Later developments to the gatehouse at around 1378 included the square towers being changed to circular drum towers and crossbow loopholes being added because of the aforementioned device being invented. Another major development around this period was the barbican. The barbican ensured that to get close to the gatehouse, invading troops would have to walk around the barbican first exposing their sides to fire from the drum towers. People seldom take the time to understand and appreciate the uniqueness that each of us possesses. For this reason, people are often uneducated about those individuals who live with various disabilities on a daily basis. She felt that working for Robert was something extraordinarily meaningful that had happened in her life. • 33. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an increasingly global economy, the main lever by which central governments can influence the success of the domestic economy is by ensuring its public sector operates efficiently. The central governments of the developed economies have adopted similar change agendas to transform their public sectors. These change agendas entail the introduction of new structures, new kinds of organizations and a reinvention of many parts of the public sector. The intention of successive governments has been the creation of a New Public Sector , which is more strategic and corporate in its thinking. Despite of that definition, the creation of an accounting entity is also a political process with potentially huge implications. Kurunmäki states that the boundaries which describe an organization as an economic unit separate from other units are not as clear cut, natural or fixed as the accounting entity assumption implies . To which extent does NOMS now fulfill the above described requirements? What are the issues involved in the representation of NOMS as an accounting entity? By defining NOMS as an accounting entity, the financial controls involved seek to limit accountability to the very institution which is fair to say and in line with the so called market based New Public Sector reforms (Arnold, 1991). As a consequence, NOMS has to face the challenge to act within a managerial, instead of an administrative culture. When looking for example at healthcare reforms throughout Western Europe during the late 1970s and 1980, we find out that before introducing those reforms and seeing hospitals as accounting entities, several problems occurred: Poor management followed by arm s length management, with organizational actions guided by practices rooted in a rationality that privileged professional or clan over bureaucratic or managerial forms of control (Kurunmäki, 1999). The driver of the truck quickly sped off immediately after the accident, leaving us scared, and confused and the car totaled. If only there was a surveillance camera that could have witnessed it. The camera could have got a clear view of his license plate, or even him. More surveillance cameras should be installed in public places because they are useful for catching criminals, protecting people, and growing the economy. Every day there are property crimes, assault crimes personal crimes and if there is a way to benefit the safety the citizens it should be taken advantage of. First, the more surveillance cameras that are in an area the lower the rate of the criminal participating in criminal activity (Brown). Research shows that surveillance cameras are not as effective in all locations and crimes, but there is evidence that they decrease property crime rates (Brown). There are already surveillance cameras at most stop lights and in most stores to capture images of people in case someone breaks the law, but if there were more surveillance in public places it would be easier to catch crimes other than just someone running a red light or shoplifting. For example, if a child was kidnapped, the police would already have video evidence of the kidnapper. This would make it easier to identify the person. • 37. How Does Laurie Halse Anderson Use Allusions In Speak On a dark august night, Melinda and Rachel went to an end of summer party. Feeling out of place, Melinda resorted to drinking. Once she took a step out, she was confronted and assaulted by a senior named Andy Evans. Melinda felt small and just wanted to say no but the words couldn t find their way out. That was the night that Melinda got raped. Melinda s conflict with herself continues as she tries to overcome the events of that night. In the realistic fiction novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, the author uses symbolism and allusions to show how Melinda struggles to overcome the rape throughout the novel. Symbolism is widely used in Speak to suggest something more of an object. Colors are big symbols as they convey Melinda s thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate this, Anderson compares Melinda to a dryad (p.17). Dryads originate from Greek mythology and it is the female spirit of a tree. The life of a dryad is connected to a tree. Dryads also tend to be shy creatures. Metaphorically, the author is trying to imply that teenagers are in the stage of development and growth, just like plants. Melinda is still growing and overcoming her rape. Anderson also makes allusions to literature to compare and contrast Melinda s story to stories of other characters. To exemplify, Maya Angelou is mentioned quite frequently. In her novel I know why the caged bird sings, (p.50) she writes about how she was raped by Mr. Freeman. She can t talk and is helped by someone with a name of a plant. Anderson uses irony since in the novel Speak, Mr. Freeman is the one who helps Melinda grow. Also, metaphorically comparing Angelou and Maya, we can foreshadow what happens next (the rape). When Melinda finds her closet, she discovers a shattered mirror which symbolizes her past and she tries to cover it up with a picture of Maya Angelou (which is not better.) The poster which symbolizes her rape and secrets doesn t help Melinda grow. Another example would be The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. (p.100) Melinda mentions [Hester] is kind of quiet. We would get along. (p.101) Melinda is comparing herself to Hester Prynne, a character in Hawthorne s novel who has to wear a red letter A to mark her guilt. Both Melinda and Hester feel like outcasts and are a shame in society. Anderson also uses allusions by mentioning the suffragettes (p.154). The suffragettes were people who stood up against unfair treatment of women. To get extra credit, Melinda has to write a report and present it to the class. Being that Melinda doesn t speak, she and David Petrakis, her lab partner, make a plan. Instead of talking, Melinda gives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike conventional airplanes, rotary winged aircrafts have a fundamental advantage in that lift and control are relatively independent of forward speed. Rotary aircrafts do not need a runway and have much more freedom and maneuverability in the air. Despite early efforts to fly using rotary winged devices as well as the mentioned advantages, the first successful flight came from a fixed wing aircraft [2]. The development of rotor technology paved the path for the creation of the quadcopter. Etienne Oehmichen successfully built the first quadrotor in 1922 called the Oehmichen No. 2. A single 120 horsepower engine powered the four rotors of this machine. However, due to a lack of control of individual rotors, the altitude and orientation could not be varied. To combat this issue, four additional propellers were attached to better direct the movement of the quadrotor [3]. Modern quadcopters do not rely on additional propellers to maneuver themselves. Instead, each rotor can be manipulated to perform virtually any aerial move. Today, quadcopters are used in many areas of industry due to their reliability, cost effectiveness and multi functionality. The most widely known uses come from photography and the military. • 39. Tachycardia Research Paper What is tachycardia? Tachycardia refers to an abnormally fast resting heart rate usually at least 100 beats per minute. The threshold of a normal heart rate (pulse) is generally based on the person s age. Tachycardia can be dangerous; depending on how hard the heart has to work.In general, the adult resting heart beats between 60 and 100 times per minute (some doctors place the healthy limit at 90, so some of them may diagnose tachycardia at slightly lower than 100 beats per minute). When an individual has tachycardia the upper or lower chambers of the heart beat significantly faster sometimes this happens to both chambers. When the heart beats too rapidly, it pumps less efficiently and blood flow to the rest of the body, including the heart itself is reduced. The higher than normal heartbeat means there is an increase in demand for oxygen by the myocardium (heart muscle) if this persists it can lead to myocardial infarction (heart attack), caused by the dying off of oxygen starved myocardial cells. Some patients with tachycardia may have no symptoms or complications. Tachycardia significantly increases the risk of stroke, sudden cardiac arrest or death. Eisenhower once said, Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. (citation) Guns are a major source of crisis in our nation today, and as President Eisenhower speaks to in this quote, firearms take something away from society. In that same situation, with no gun around, there is a much less chance of someone being severely injured or killed. Many people suggest securing schools more by doing things like locking all doors, bullet proof vestibules, mandatory ID and background checks, and even microchips monitoring people s whereabouts in the school. All of these things may help, but the problem is much bigger than the schools. The problem is in the access to guns that our laws allow. The use of guns by civilians should be banned because, the statistics show that the more guns, the more chance for violence. The military and law enforcement should be the only ones legally allowed to carry guns. When our forefathers drafted the Bill of Rights with the Second Amendment protecting the individual right to possess firearms, the society and the motive was different. it was a limited right and they left some authority over it to the government. The government is able to limit this, so seeing how guns are negatively affecting our society, they should use their power.
