2. Chief Walton Eager Case Study
Upon reviewing the required case study, the facts and concerns of the study are easily
recognizable. The first fact is that Chief Walton Eager experience before becoming chief was in
the department he currently runs (Cordner, 2016). Also, according to the reading he also
apparently possesses some people skills. Next, since receiving the appointment, he posts new policy
and procedure on a bulletin board to let his department know about desired guidelines. Additionally,
the majority of the officers at the Rixton PoliceDepartment use service style policing, and perform
ethically and professionally. However, there is a small number of officers that believe in aggressive
law enforcement rather than serving the public. Consequently, these set of facts listed in the case
study present an enormous amount of problems for the Rixton community.
Although Chief Eager is technically implementing new policies and procedures in the department,
he is failing to ensure that his officers understand (Cordner, 2016). The study does not refer Chief
Eager ensuring that his supervisors understand the new policies, nor ensuring that they will
implement and enforce them. When an administrator fails to confirm that new mandates are
recognized and followed, stress and cliques are imminent in the ... Show more content on

The two factions appear as though they are spending more time on worry about the other, than
actually performing their duties. Thus, there is an internal divide that is creating strife and reducing
the effectiveness of the department s abilities and responsibilities. The department is also likely
appears foolish to the community due to the different ideologies presented; furthermore, a single
excessive force incident by the militaristic portion could ruin the image of those attempting to

3. Theology and Development

FACILITATOR: REV. DR. ISAIAS CHACHINE | Theology and Development| | Theological
Reflection Amartya Sen and Elaine Graham, Heather Walton and Frances Ward|
This paper will deal with the importance of Theological reflection and it will argue that theological
reflection is the responsibility of all individuals in the human race. In response to Amartya Sen s
work in Development as Freedom as well the treatment of theological reflection and the analysis of
methods by Elaine Graham, Heather Walton and Frances Ward, this paper will attempt to unpack
what the term development means with a view to offering a theological response to the concerns
articulated by Sen in his book. This theological response ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Graham et al makes us aware that there remain problems with the way students have been
historically expected to engage in theological reflection and they cite 3 problems. For the purposes
of this paper I will emphasise one with a view of introducing a theological reflection model that is
designed to bring about transformation. According to Graham et al (Graham, Walton, amp; Ward,
2005, p. 7) one of the problems are that pastoral care, contextual analysis and patterns of theological
reflection are often divorced from the study of systematic/historical/biblical disciplines on the
curriculum in theological colleges, courses and seminaries.
Here I wish to offer a theological reflection model that does well to integrate pastoral care, biblical
study and theological reflection and it is also an effective tool for bringing about transformation in
a community. In fact this model is taught at the College of The Transfiguration Grahamstown as
part of the course titled Implementing transformation in a community using Christian principles. It
is also an interdisciplinary model in the sense that it can also be applied in Christian ethics courses.
This model is called SEE JUDGE ACT. I will return to this model later in this paper.
To return to the views of Graham et al, they argue that the history of doctrine should be

4. The African American Artist By White Anglo Saxon...
Although dominated by white Anglo Saxon sociocultural patterns, American culture is in fact a
tapestry woven of diverse threads that include Native American, Hispanic, Asian and African
traditions, as well as those of European origin (Craven, 2003, p. 529). America is often described
as the melting pot; the concept of culture is formulated around the notion of many subcultures
inside one larger nation in which, the melting pot has not merely melted; it has cooked a broth with
an unmistakable favor of its own (Perry, 1949, p. 357). Many painters took up the plight of those
who were not sharing fully in the American dream (Craven, 2003, p. 564). Evidence of this is in the
visual images throughout the course of American history of what the overall ideology of American
culture summarizes enabling one to perceive what Americans daily lives were like in the past, how
it is seen now in the present, and what it may reflect in the future. The African American artist
Robert Gwathmey (1903 88) painted pictures of the social injustices meted out to blacks to keep
them in poverty (Craven, 2003, p. 546). He captured the true aesthetics of the African American
culture and what dreams/aspirations they hoped to achieve, even portraying the struggle of their
adversities. His painting entitled Belle (1965) portrays the destitution, discrimination, and
amateurish methods of white supremacy reflected on the blacks psyche in America. Grant Wood,
another American artist, painted the

5. Computer Access and Information Storage
Executive Summary
Computer access and information storage has drastically evolved with the increase of computer
usage and internet access across a wide range of areas including homes, businesses, schools and
government departments. These changes make requirements for more specific laws to regulate the
use of computers and storage of data as well as new forensic techniques and tools to investigate
such offences.
Following this, computer forensic investigators are becoming a necessity for lawyers and barristers
as support in both criminal and civil proceedings. What legislation exists in Ireland to handle
computer crime?
Ireland does not have exclusive law that would deal with computer crime as such, but has two
laws that can handle computer crimes. Criminal Damage Act 1991 (the 1991 Act ) deals with
principal offences in section 2 and section 5 while Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences)
Act, 2001 (the 2001 Act ) covers computer related offences in section 9 and section 48.
Criminal Damage Act 1991
Section 2 (1) A person who without lawful excuse damages any property belonging to another
intending to damage any such property or being reckless as to whether any such property would be
damaged shall be guilty of an offence.
While section 2 above does not call out specific reference to computer related crime, the definition
in the statute regarding property does include offences relating to data.

Arkansas, then dominated all the United States and began to internationalize in 1991. Wal Mart
is now targeting the Asian market. Established in China since 1996, the group employed some

terms of commercial policy. The Asian continent: Wal Mart s strategy on this continent concerns
major markets such as Japan and China. The penetration was done due to the joining system.
Indeed, the culture and the Chinese legislation was being so significantly different, the implantation
without changing the American business concepts would have been too risky. The European

same strategy of penetration was settled for both countries but two contrary results. A huge success
for the first, thanks to a very close culture between the two countries, the political American

failure was flagrant. Hard discount being already very developed, it was so difficult for Wal Mart

7. Differences Between Willy Loman And Death Of A Salesman
In 1949, Arthur Miller released a play called Death of a Salesman which involves the struggle of
the Loman family. In 1985, August Wilson released a play called Fences which involves the
struggle of the Loman family. Both the Maxson and Loman family can relate to each other with the
same issue. They both deal with financial problems, a dysfunctional father, and the father s affair.
Both Troy Maxson and Willy Loman cannot get along with their own families. The difference
between Troy Maxson and Willy Loman is that racial discriminationhas feared Troy into being very
negative and Willy has a mental issue that would make him think that he needs to be rich
(salesman).
In Death of a Salesman, Willy mental issues make him not properly run his family the right way. He
focuses way too much on business and wealth and won t worry about his health and family. He is
convinced that being rich would make him and his family have a good life instead of just being
happy with what he had. His obsession with wealth would cause him to attempt suicide when he
becomes a failure and unemployed. Willy just needs to realize that he is an ordinary man and isn t
meant to be rich.
Also in Death of a Salesman, Biff is dependent on the family and he needs to be a salesman to
make his father proud. However, Biff knows that Willy had an affair with another woman, Willy
later on remember this moment in a flashback. The affair would scarred Biff to drop out of
summer school and would let Linda deal with Willy s mental problems. Biff also tries to get a
job, but ends up unemployed like his father. Biff even tries to steal just so he could make his
father proud. Biff learns that he and Willy cannot be rich and they are just ordinary men who
should get ordinary salaries.
In Fences, Troy runs his family by being negative and bossy. He acts this way because he
struggled to become successful when he was a young man. He was rejected at Major League
Baseball because his race wasn t accepted yet, and that s why he wouldn t let Cory play football
anymore. Racial discrimination is the key element that connects with Troy and his problem with
his family. Troy doesn t want his sons to end up the way he did. Towards the end of the play, Cory
is kicked out

8. Song of Roland Essay
Roland is not depicted as a hero in every way. In what particular way does his heroism cause him
to fail himself and others, and what does that tell us about the culture out of which the poem
emerges? The Song of Roland is a heroic epic that depicts the tragic defeat of Roland, the
courageous leader of Charlemagne s army. Within the epic Rolandis not depicted as a heroin every
way. I believe that Roland s pride eventually becomes the root cause of his failure to himself and
to others. It is this pride that Roland carries that sheds light upon the culture out of which the poem
emerges. In this culture during the late 700 s, pride in one s religion is expected and upheld to
great extents such as sacrifice. The Song of Rolandwas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that Roland knew that his stepfather would not go to King Marsilion and used that to his
advantage to prove himself to Charlemagne. Proving his pride for himself.
Additional proof of Roland s pride that causes him to fail himself and the other Crusaders is his
hard headedness to call for help when being attacked by Saracens. In the Song of Roland, Roland
s biggest enemy is his stepfather Ganelon. Out of spite, Ganelon organizes forces led by the
Saracens to detour Roland and separate him from the Christian forces. Being the proud person he
is, Roland refuses to sound the battle horn to call for help. His pride leads to a massacre of
Charlemagne s army.
Throughout The Song of Roland pride seems to be a major theme. Roland is not the only one with
extreme pride for what he believes in. Without pride for religion, I believe, that there would not be
a crusade, let alone the story of Roland.
With this poem taking place in the latter part of the 700 s, religion and pride in one s religion was
taken very

9. Action-Based Discretization for AI Search
Action Based Discretization for AI Search
Dr. Todd W. Neller*
Department of Computer Science Gettysburg College Campus Box 402 Gettysburg, PA 17325
1486 Introduction As computer gaming reaches ever greater heights in realism, we can expect the
complexity of simulated dynamics to reach further as well. To populate such gaming environments
with agents that behave intelligently, there must be some means of reasoning about the
consequences of agent actions. Such ability to seek out the ramifications of various possible action
sequences, commonly called lookahead , is found in programs that play chess, but there are special
challenges that face game programmers who wish to apply AI search techniques to complex
continuous dynamical systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, we compare three different means of action parameter discretization, including a dispersion
technique that generates an approximate uniform sampling of closed action spaces. Action Based
Discretization Artificial Intelligence search algorithms search discrete systems, yet we live and
reason in a continuous world. Continuous systems must first be discretized, i.e. approximated as
discrete systems, to apply such algorithms. There are two common ways that continuous search
problems are discretized: state based discretization and action based discretization. Statebased
discretization becomes infeasible when the state space is highly dimensional. Actionbased
discretization becomes infeasible when there are too many degrees of freedom. Interestingly,
biological high degree of freedom systems are often governed by a much smaller collection of
motion primitives [Mataric, 2000]. We focus here on action based discretization. Action based
discretization consists of two parts: (1) action parameter discretization and (2) action timing
discretization, i.e. how and when to act. See Figure 1. The most popular form of discretization is
uniform discretization. It is common to sample possible actions and action timings at fixed
intervals. For the following algorithms, we focus on action timing discretization. Experimental
evidence of this paper and previous studies [Neller, 2000] suggests that a fixed

10. Negatives Of Images Of The Photo
Images can project very powerful points without the use of words. In the foreground of the
photo, four young adults who appear to be in their early twenties, are standing next to each
other. Each of them have a cell phone in their hand and seem to be intoxicated by what their
phones are displaying. In the background of the image is an older, cemented, light brown, rock
wall in which the young adults are leaning against. There is no visible interaction between the
four people in the image. These phones may have increased online social interaction; however,
this photo can be used as proof to argue that phones have become a distraction and hindered
personal, face to face relationships and verbal communications. This has consequently caused
the younger generation to put up a social wall which could inadvertently hurt their social skills.
Overall, the details of the image being analyzed shoot straight to the point. The visuals in the
image do not detract from its key point and only includes the four people and the wall they lean
against. Starting from the left in the image is a young brunette woman wearing a light green
tank top and blue jeans. The second individual from the left is a young man with shorter brown
hair with a smile on his face wearing a long sleeved striped white shirt with a lighter pair of blue
jeans. The third person from the left is a young blonde lady wearing a gray dress. The last person

11. The Effect Of Strain Gauge Rosette Used For Multi Channel...
Abstract While calculating the results from the collected data, the thin plate shows non linear
behaviour such that stress does not vary linearly with strain. In theory when pressure is
concentrated at the centre of a circular plate, stress value decreases with respect to increasing radial
distance from the centre. However in this case, we see that there are two principal stresses and they
behave differently than one another. This experiment will introduce us to a new strain gauge called
strain gauge rosette used for multi channel strain measurement and other equations to calculate
principal stresses and strains in a two dimensional state. Introduction For a thin circular plate, stress
and strain usually occur in a two dimensional state. As it is difficult to measure stress, strains are
instead measured in real life practices and its corresponding stress values are calculated. The most
popular measuring tool for strain is the strain gauge. Since strain is the measure of change in
displacement over the original dimension of a structure, the measuring tool must be sensitive
enough to detect that small change in displacement. Thus, we can learn how to handle sensitive
measuring equipment and ways to ensure that the data collected is as accurate as possible and also
to omit any errors that will affect the final calculation. Besides that, we can broaden our knowledge
on multi channel strain measurements because in reality two dimensional strains are not

18. The Caliph Harun Al Rashid
Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of
the Caliph Harun al Rashid and his much exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point
about religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious
mandates while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though
the qadi claims that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the
teachings of Islam, the series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage
with the slave girl which involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male
slave in order to divorce them and avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder,
1955) required for sexual conduct, as well as ordering the male slave to become the property of
the girl in order to annul their marriage when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it
certainly seems that these actions probably violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid
violation of the letter. The story itself makes a somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact
towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling
would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school, (Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu
Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi school. In other words, whether or

19. The Evolutionary Change Under Strong Selective Pressures
Domestication is a phenomenon that has promoted significant evolutionary change under strong
selective pressures (Driscoll et al. 2009). As a result of this phenomenon, various domesticated
strains of flora and fauna have significantly contributed to the development of human civilization
(Morey 1994; Driscoll 2009). Although it was a substantial component to our progress, it was not
until the research of Dmitry K. Belyaev that we began to unravel the early stages of domestication.
Assuming that these initial stages involved selectionon behavior, Belyaev conducted an
experimental study that placed strong selective pressures on tamability. Using the fox, Vulpes
vulpes, as a model, this artificial selection developed an experimental population that expressed
behavioral, morphological, and physiological characteristics of domesticated species (Belyaev
1969).
Under stressful conditions, animals have the tendency to engage in avoidance responses to
promote their chances of survival (Smith Vale 2006; Ranabir Reetu 2011). These avoidance
responses, including fearful and/or aggressive behavior, also tend to be the primary reactions to
human encounters. Belyaev suggested that as a consequence, social interactions in the early stages
of domestication likely depended on animals with an inhibited response to stress. Ergo, he reasoned
that selectively breeding animals expressing this behavioral response, or tamability, would likely
mirror these early stages (Belyaev 1969).

20. Framing A Bad Argument
Abortion, animal rights, border control, gun rights and same sex marriage are always heated
discussions amongst people. Whether people know all the facts or not I can guarantee most have
very strong perceptions and feelings on each of these. A significant thought to remember is that
argumentative essays are not always a disagreement. Occasionally, they merely support an idea or
topic some cannot be argued (Reinking and Von der Osten, 269). Framing the argument, providing
firm support, while remaining cautious of fallacies were the significant points in Chapter 16 of
Strategies of Successful Writing, in my opinion.
Framing the argument, essentially choosing a side of your argument and attempting to influence
the reader to believe the same as you. You must state your argument in a very clear and precise
manner so the reader has no reason to doubt you. After choosing a specific argument, researching
the points to help prove the assumptions will become an easier task. Until a decision on how to
frame the argument has been made, it seems impossible to attempt to convince others. You must
first have all the evidence to support your framing. I do not enjoy trying to push my beliefs onto
others, we are all from different walks of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

information to benefit their point of view. Lacking the information from both sides of an
argument will not persuade the audience in your favor. Stereotyping, a worldwide struggle, must
be avoided in order to persuade in an ethical way. Appealing to a crowd, seems to be a very
popular way to persuade others. In our presidential debates, so many important topics are left on
the sidelines while both nominees simply attempt to appeal to the crowds. Carefully reviewing
your evidence and looking extremely hard for any fallacies will only leave you better prepared.

23. Fire Safety Research Paper
Safety is a priority in the fire service. We must keep our personnel safe in order for them to
provide affective service to the citizens. Our actions, our training, and the equipment that we use,
all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety
for our crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters.
First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our
policy that we do not enter moving water; however, recent training does allow us to enter standing
water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate
safety hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as
tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when we enter standing water. Be that as it
may, the danger of drowning is still a reality. By putting four floatation devices on every
apparatus, we can potentially save the life of a rescuer. The addition of floatation devices is a low
cost, high value addition to improve safety.
Second, Lighted traffic cones are a cost effective way to increase the safety of personnel while
operating at night. We currently have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

addition of these canisters can mean the difference between a close call and a funeral. They will

24. Analysis Of The Book American Writers
Out of all the amazing American writers no one compares to S.E. Hinton, better known as Susan
Eloise Hinton. Early life of Ms. Hinton was no different from anyone else. Susan Hinton wrote a
lot of amazing and inspiring books; her books were also about teens. Whether you are intrigued
by the early life, works, or about her writings of S.E. Hinton you will learn that she leads a
remarkable life. Hinton was born July 22, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended Will Rogers
High School this is where most of her writings were based from. While she was in high school,
she started her first draft, and also one of her books The Outsiders was published in 1967. This
book was actually based on her high school when the blue collar families which were called
Greasers yet on the other side of town were the Socs which were rich from the money in the oil
in the area. The Socs wore expensive clothes, and drove nice cars (Smith). Hinton wrote books
with the narrators as males, and she did not think boys would read her books because she was a
woman writer, so she used her initials as her pen name so readers wouldn t know she was a
woman writer. Hinton met a boy in her biology class as a freshman, he became the inspiration of
her second book ,and helped her with her writer s block by making her write until she got to two
pages before they would go out on a date and if she didn t fish two pages they wouldn t go out the
day.(hinton) She did know later they would get married in 1970. During

25. Difference Between New England And The Chesapeake Colonies
The difference between the colonies of New England and the Chesapeake region were many.
First, they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different reasons for doing so. For the
Chesapeake colonies, including Virginia and Maryland, profit was the aim. After the introduction
of tobacco to Europe by Columbus at the end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and
steadily growing demand for the crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the
Americas for the purpose of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of
New England were set up primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that sought
profit in New England, most settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship. English separatists,
who vehemently disagreed with the way the Church of England was set up, left Holland and came
to America on the Mayflower. They landed in modern Massachusettsand established the Plymouth
Colony. Rhode Island was also founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow
dissenters were exiled from Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and
members of other minority religions. A second difference in the colonies of the Chesapeake and
of New England comes in the basis of their economies. As mentioned above, Virginia was founded
in order to grow tobacco. Maryland s foremost crop was also tobacco. Also, the way tobacco was
cultivated was important to the Chesapeake colonies. Plantation owners were in

27. Esterification Lab
A Fischer esterification reaction was used in the first part of this lab to convert an unknown
alcohol into an ester through the help of microscale reflux, which was later identified using GC,
micro boiling point, and IR spectroscopy. In this type of reaction, an alcohol is reacted with a
carboxylic acid, and is driven by a strong acid catalysis to yield esterand water. To obtain a good
yield of the ester produced, Le Chatelier s principle is exploited to remove excess water and form
more ester product, by the addition of excess carboxylic acid.

By using the technique of reflux, the reaction was allowed to heat for a long period of time,
where the vapors from the boil are cooled by the water flow and condensed back into the vial,
allowing for a constant temperature. Micro boiling point allows for the measuring of a liquid
compounds boiling point through the usage of the Mel Temp. The heating of the sample will
release air bubbles inside of the inverted bell, which will fill with the vapor from the sample,
when the heat is turned off and the last bubble exits the bell, the atmospheric pressure is equal to
the vapor pressure of the sample, giving the boiling point, which can help identify a sample. IR
spectroscopy measures the IR absorbance of a compound, and because each functional group has
unlike IR absorbance, they can be used to identify a compound. Gas chromatography evaporates a
sample and separates it using a carrier gas, which reaches the detector giving out a retention time.
Different compounds have different retention times, so when the GC of an unknown is compared
to a known standard, the sample can be identified. In viscosity determination, the time it takes for a
compound to flow from one mark to another in a pasteur pipette, is compared to the time it takes

Freedom is a basic to education in modern democracies. Freedom in education can be categorized
in the various aspects such as; Freedom of the child, academic freedom and freedom to read. Mc
Garry and Ward, (1966) puts it: A free society and a free world imply a free educational system
and a freedom within the framework of maximum control. In such a closed society they maintained,
freedom in education may consist of ability to say or do in consequential things. The legal idea of
academic freedom originated in Germany in 1850. The Prussian Constitution declared that science

every child who is capable of forming views and opinion has a right to express them freely; in all
matters that affects them. In article number 13 on Freedom of Expression says that the child shall

Freedom to impart information and ideas of all kinds either orally or in writing in art and music.
But the exercise of these rights must respect the rights and limitations of others and must respect
the country s laws and morals.
Academic freedom consists in protecting the intellectual independence of professors, researchers
and students in the pursuit of knowledge and the expression of ideas from interference by
legislators or authorities within the institution itself. This implies that no political, ideological or
religious orthodoxy will be imposed on professors and researchers through the hiring or tenure or
termination process, or though any other administrative means by the academic institution. Nor
shall legislatures impose any such orthodoxy through their control or the university budget. This
protection includes students.

small walking bridge which went over the Alaknandha River, It went with such force, and if you

because the water is that cold, and we are at an extreme altitude. And the most Ironic thing about

we had to perform. We had to get into brand new clothes and we had to give the clothes were

Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. These famous words,
spoken by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his first inaugural address, have famously
resonated throughout history, and although they were said nearly 2000 years after the events of
Plato s The Apology, they perfectly correspond with what is perhaps the most noteworthy moment
of the Platos text. The Apology is Plato s recounting of Socratestrial, in which he faced charges of
corrupting the youth, and believing in Gods different than the Gods of the state of Athens. In the
trial, Socrates makes his argument as to why he should be found innocent of all the charges placed
upon him. One of the most interesting arguments that Socrates makes in his defense is comparing
himself to Achilles, the great Greek warrior from Homer s The Iliad. He makes this comparison
multiple times in his argument, and although it may seem like Socratic irony for the short, fat,
philosopher to compare himself to a great Warrior, Socrates is completely serious in his
comparison. He used a comparison between himself and Achilles as an analogy to represent his
immense motivation to Philosophy. Achilles, living in an honor culture, was willing to die over
what he believed was right, and Socrates was no different in that regard.

Introduction
With the proliferation of drugs in today s society, certain drugs are banned by sporting
authorities because of the unfair advantage they give on athletic competitors. As a result, rigid
controls are put in place to try and limit their use, since 2010 drug testing is more prevalent than
ever before. The majority of drugs that can be used by athletes can be detected in samples of
urine; for some substances blood samples may be required. An athlete is told by a drug control
officer to submit a sample which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the results are reported
back to the governing athletic agency. Drug testing is becoming an increasingly integral part of
sports competitions. As new performance enhancing drugs are developed, new tests are developed
to detect these drugs, and the struggle to keep sports clean continues indefinitely. Gas
chromatography and mass spectrometry are the most common methods of chemical analysis. In this
report the benefits of gas chromatography will be explored in relation to those of mass spectrometry.
It can be concluded that gas chromatography is perceived as a better drug detection method than
mass spectrometry, however; they are commonly put together as the two techniques complement

John Stuart Mill is a man that has been immortalized by the public as both a genius, and a man
before his own time. He has made countless contributions to philosophy, ethics, economics, and
politics; he was a man not afraid to speak his mind, often to a candour level that become
expected of Mill s works (Browne 274). This frankness became attached to Mill s, as he was
typically swift and cunning in the disablement of opposing views and logical backing of his
own. However, because of this, and his often debated stances, Mill often faced scrutiny over his
beliefs, from authors such as Matthew Browne. His opponents were often quick to say how
much it pains them to argue against Mill s point of view. As Browne said, To any one who
regards the genius and character of Mr. Mill with such serious homage as the writer of these
lines, it is a task of peculiar difficulty, and also a considerable pain, to express, and especially to
express in public, strong though qualified dissent from his opinions upon an important question
(Browne 273). However, before we indulge into both the greatness and questioning of Mill s
work it is important to understand how this man came to be. I remember one day asking my
father why it was that he pushed me so hard and seemed to always expect the best out of me.

40. The Theory Of The Human Thought Process
The argument of people being aware of the situations and objects around them has been debated
and researched upon for a very long time. There are philosophers who argue the fact that what
we see and conceive should be taken as absolute fact and there are philosophers who debate that
what we actually see is not to be taken as the truth. In my view, the human thought process is
designed in such a way that it focuses on certain aspects and ignores others. There are things
going on in our day to day lives that we can take in one way, but the reality might actually be
very different. Hence, I support the argument that we, as humans, do not know our minds very
well. One such person who defends such a claim is an American philosopher known as Daniel
Dennett. He argues that every single person on this world considers themselves a pioneer of the
term consciousness. This is because consciousness is not a subject that is limited to only
pioneers. Every single person experiences consciousness and there fore, they all have a view on
their version of consciousness and hence, they consider themselves experts regarding the topic.
He gave an example of a person who performed a magic trick towards an audience and when the
audience was questioned on how he performed those tricks, they each had a different interpretation
of what they saw. None of the things that they saw were actually demonstrated by the magician.
He says How can it be that there are so many changes going on and yet we are

Suicide continues to be one of the main causes of death in teens throughout America. Statistically,
suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470
people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide
Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of
parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide
. On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a
suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution;
but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem
and nothing is worth taking your own life over.
In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his
own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his
father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever
into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This
quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything
to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many
teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family.
Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can
be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from
depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive
outlook on life.

43. The Limitations of GDP as a Measure of Well Being
The Limitations of GDP as a Measure of Well Being A primary aim of governments economic
policy includes economic development and management. The presence of a growing economy
is perceived as a positive characteristic; with increasing gross domestic product (GDP) being
interpreted as positive sign of social well being (van den Bergh, 2008). Countries with a high
GDP have higher taxes paid to government, who may use those taxes to provide public services
such as education and health, which in turn supports the well being of the citizens. Despite this
the measure is often criticized as an indicator of well being. To appreciate the value of GDP as a
measure it is necessary to look at what it is and how it may be used as well as recognize the
limitation of using GDP. GDP is a measure of economic activity in an economy. The measure can
be calculated in three ways, measuring the output by calculating the value of all the goods and
services produced within a country, as expenditure, measuring the value of all goods and services

44. Language In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Their Eyes Were Watching God, a Unique American Narrative
Their Eyes Were Watching God, a 1937 novel by influential Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale
Hurston, examines the historical, cultural, and social foundations of African American life by
following the life of an African American woman in the US South. In her examination of these
foundations, Hurston builds validity and affirmation for black Southern culture by beautifully
portraying the life of the Black Southern community in the Antebellum period, by adopting a
distinctly African American dialect and colloquial Black folk speech, and by using a narrative
inside the novel to construct and narrativize the African American identity.
Based on African American folk traditions of the South,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Janie, like a lot of African American women during that time including Nanny, Janie s
grandmother, shares her own experience and knowledge that she had gained throughout her life.
This frame story is important since Janie s storytelling simultaneously contributes to the identity
of African Americans by keeping the tradition and spreading her knowledge and experience, and
constructs her own identity and history as well (Benesch). Janie summarizes, Ah know all dem

45. The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
The Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The main idea of The Omnivore s Dilemma, by Michael
Pollan, is to make the reader aware of where his food comes from, and what goes into his food.
Pollan does this by breaking the book into four different types of meals: the industrial and
processed meal consisting of foodproduced in factories or grown on large scale farms, the organic
meal created on industrial farms, the grass fed meal made of meat and produce created on
mindful and smaller farms, and finally the meal containing food gathered, hunted, or grown by
the person who will consume it. Pollan starts by explaining the origin of corn in Mexico and
southwestern North America. He visited George Naylor, an industrial corn farmer living in Iowa,
at his farm to learn about the dominating industry. Since corn is one of the cheapest sources of
calories, and is so abundant, scientists have modified it into just about every different form they
can to make more use out of it. Corn is now used to feed cattle, which are physically designed to
eat meat. Corn fed beef contains more saturated fat than grass fed beef, making it exceedingly
unhealthy. Pollan also talks about the harsh lives of animals on... Show more content on

Pollan contrasts the processed food produced on factory farms with Polyface Farm, a small farm
in western Virginia where all of the organisms that produce food there coexist in a mutualistic
relationship. The grass feeds the cows, while the cows actually encourage the growth of the grass.
Chickens eat insects from the waste of the cows, producing rich eggs. The owner of Polyface
Farm, Joel Salatin, has mastered this way of farming by harnessing the natural benefits of
producing a variety of species together. Pollan also participated in the process of slaughtering
chickens on Polyface Farm, which is much smaller and less routine than on factory

46. The Woman Warrior Diction
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston blurs fiction and reality using a poetic, singsong
writing style, blending sentences together using sentence structure and diction. She also relies
heavily on symbols to reveal inner conflict that she had while growing up Chinese American,
trying to determine what was authentically Chinese and what was illusion. In White Tigers, the
narrator describes how after learning to be a warrior, she could see everyone dancing, Whenever
I did not eat for long, as during famine or battle, I could stare at ordinary people and see their
dance. When I get hungry enough, then killing and falling are dancing, too. This revelation is
preceded by a poetic description of the dance she sees in the forest, in which

Humans and nature live together on the planet earth. Unfortunately, humans have destroyed much
of our own environment. There are groups of people who stand up and fight big corporations and
other contributors that pollute and destroy the environment. Greenpeace is one of these
organizations. They fight against many problems concerning our environment. Their organization
is worldwide and they have had a great impact on conserving our global community.
How did Greenpeace originate? In 1971 the United States announced that it would test nuclear
weapons on Amchitka Island. Many individuals were disturbed in hearing this news and they
boarded a fishing vessel to sail across the North Pacific to protest the testing, which ... Show more

Ancient forests are the homes for millions of plants, insects, mammals and many other species.
When their homes are no longer there, they will be forced into extinction without their natural
environment. Also, when ancient forests are destroyed the world s climate is directly impacted.
When they are destroyed they release enormous amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. The 1997
fires in Indonesia s rainforest added as much carbon to the atmosphere as all the coal, oil, and
gasoline burned that year in Western Europe.2 The logging industry is the principle contributing
factor to these fires.3 This is a huge problem that is going to have an effect on the human population
in the upcoming years. Ecotimber is the answer that Greenpeace has for the problems of the
destruction of ancient rainforests. It is the perfect win win situation.4
What is ecotimber? It is manufactured in the Solomon Islands. The people have an area of land
set aside where there are forest reserves, garden land, and harvest area. Trees are felled with
minimal damage and portable mills are used where the trees fall. The people regenerate forests and
the community shares the profits of the ecotimber. This timber is used to build houses, wood floors,
decks and furniture. This is a great way to conserve the ancient forests that are still left throughout
the world.

48. Who Is Paul Rusesabagina A Corrupt Hero
Avondale Kendja A Corrupt Hero: Mimicry and Unreality in the Film Hotel Rwanda In Terry
George s film Hotel Rwanda the protagonist, Paul Rusesabagina, is an ideal of the two different
concepts of mimicry Fanon and Bhabha both elaborate on. Fanon would assert the protagonist is
a representation of how the native bourgeoisie s self centeredness prevents them from leading the
nation into a real prosperity, Spivak would criticize this and Bhabha especially argues that
mimicry is an effective colonial tool to affirm the colonizer s ideology into its colonized subjects
by appropriat[ing] the Other as it visualizes power (Bhabha 86). The system of exploitation is a
necessary means to status in the Rwanda of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his family clearly fit into the more privileged bourgeoisie that Fanon describes, as he
works in the hotel industry, lives in the capital, and expresses a disdain for the Hutu radio
speaker and marchers who terrify his Tutsi driver and relatives. Accruing enough money to
support his family, yet also to display his own prowess in playing the game of exploitation is
more important. In fact, Rusesabagina would show how, as Fanon writes, identifies itself with
the Western bourgeoisie, from whom it has learnt its lessons (Fanon 1580). Despite this
observation, Fanon also claims an implicit essentialism; the bourgeoisie must deny itself from
taking advantage of those that work for them and repudiate its own nature in so far as it is
bourgeoisie (Fanon 1579). However, Spivak observes that the Marxism that Fanon studied under
has impl[ied] that positivism is not a theory , which would be problematic as Fanon s ideas could
be solidified into immutable facts against inquiry (Spivak 2203). Mimicry for Fanon entails a
native turning their backs against their culture in the face of the colonizer urging its subjects to
think of their customs as inherently inferior to their own. The native would then take on several of
the colonizer s behaviors in order to gain a semblance of power,

Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954. New Orleans was a place for opportunities Ruby

that; Flicker, a blind girl that is able to see through the eyes of any living thing, was unable to cast

51. The Battle of the Boyne Essay
The Battle of the Boyne (Irish: Cath na BГіinne) was a turning point in the Williamite claim on the
English throne.
The deposed King James VII of Scotland and James II of England and Ireland and his Jacobite
supporters were defeated by James nephew and son in law, William III and his supporters. By the
invitation of Parliament, William had deposed James in 1688. Both kings acted as commander of
their respective armies.
The battle took place on July 1, 1690 (Old Style) just outside the town of Drogheda on Ireland s
east coast. Each army stood on opposing sides of the River Boyne. William s forces easily
defeated those of James who led an army of mostly raw recruits. The symbolic importance of this

The opposing armies in the battle were led by the Roman Catholic former King James II of England
and Scotland and King of Ireland and opposing him, his nephew and son in law the Protestant
William III ( William of Orange ) who had deposed James from his English and Scottish thrones
in the previous year. James s supporters still controlled much of Ireland and the Irish Parliament.
James also enjoyed the support of the French king, Louis XIV, who did not want to see a hostile
monarch, such as William, on the throne of England. To support James s restoration, Louis sent
6,000 French troops to Ireland to support the Irish Jacobites. William was already Stadtholder of
the Netherlands and was able to call on Dutch and allied troops from continental Europe as well as
from Great Britain.
James was a seasoned general who had proven his bravery when fighting for his brother King
Charles II in Europe, notably at the Battle of the Dunes (1658). However, recent historians have
noted that he was prone to panicking under pressure and to making rash decisions, probably due to
the onset of dementia which was to overtake him completely in later years. William, although a
seasoned commander was hardly one of history s great generals and had yet to win a major battle.
Many of his battles ended in bloody stalemates, prompting

53. Analysis Of The Overlook Hotel From The Shining
Hi, I m Chucky. Wanna play? This quote from Child s Play is one of the most iconic lines in
horror film history. However, creating a scream worthy movie can be an impediment. Directors
have to work with the many different components that are implemented to create a horror film.
Two notable aspects of creating a scary movie are picking the perfect environment and using the
unknown. These two, in combination with others, will certainly create a blockbuster that will
leave fear in their minds. First, the venue of where all the horror takes place plays a major role
in creating the fear factor. In every movie, the setting can set the mood for the scene. The setting
itself can be a character. The Overlook Hotel from The Shining is an excellent example of an
ominous setting. The fact that the hotel is in seclusion leads the audience to suspect that there is
something odd about it and that people should stay away from it. Another example of a daunting
location is the Bates Motel from Psycho. This was another site located far away from civilization,
specifically 15 miles away from the nearest town. However, it was the creepy house next to the
motel that gave it the grim mood.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred Hitchcock once said, There is no terror in the bang, only the anticipation of it. In theory,
the terror comes from the unknown. It is what you don t see that scares you the most. A suitable
representation of this is show in a scene from Child s Play. In the scene, Chucky was thrown out
into a trashcan. However, when the man turned around, the doll was gone and it reappears in front
of the man with its voice altered. The reason this relates to the unknown is because the audience
would never have suspected the doll to have its own mind and murder people. Most would see the
doll as an innocent children s

54. Special Interest Terrorism And Terrorism
Special interest terrorism differs from traditional right wing and left wing terrorism in that extremist
special interest groups seek to resolve specific issues, rather than effect widespread political change.
Special interest extremists continue to conduct acts of politically motivated violence to force
segments of society, including the general public, to change attitudes about issues considered
important to their causes. These groups occupy the extreme fringes of animal rights, pro life,
environmental, anti nuclear, and other movements. Some special interest extremists most notably
within the animal rights and environmental movements have turned increasingly toward vandalism
and terrorist activity in attempts to further their causes (Jarboe, 2002). Right wing terrorism, also
referred to as vigilante terrorism is defined as Vigilante terrorism includes right wing terrorism
aimed at restoring the political relationships of an earlier time or realizing social objectives that
are neglected or discounted in the contemporary world (Professor Cadigan, 2015, Week 4
lecture). There is also left wing terrorism, which is referred to as insurgent terrorism is explained
as forcing change through terrorist acts (Professor Cadigan, 2015, Week 4 lecture). Left wing
terrorism has been around since the 1960s to 1970s. One special interest group that is interesting is
the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). The ALF, established in Great Britain in the mid 1970s, is a

55. Consensus of the People in Nazi Germany
The vital element in maintaining Hitler s regime remains one of the most controversial arguments
amongst historians. There are many considerable factors. Historians such as Jaques Delarue and
Hans Rothfels argue that terror was the main component to sustain control, whilst David Crew and
Dick Geary believe it was propaganda that made it possible. However, there are other factors that
are supported, for instance, contextual condition was backed by Ralph Flenly and Hans Rothfels
and the people s consent, as A.J.P. Taylor proposes, was the imperative constituent. Most historians
have the same problem evaluating as they have different definitions for people s consent. Silent
opposition is the term used for the people who passively opposed.... Show more content on

They also assassinated a Gestapo officer at Cologne in 1944. This behaviour demonstrated that
although young people were forced to support Hitler, not all were convinced by the Propaganda.
In spite of this, the Edelweiss pirates were only a small minority group. Another one of Flenly s
main point is that the effects of the First World War had left a vacuum in the German politics,
one which required a strong leading figure. The emotional appeal of the Nazis was very strong,
the Nazi ideology fitted with the traditional values like the role of men and women and family
values. Only a small group of people would deny these ideas. The Nazis offered exactly what the
people wanted and they extended conventional ideals and gave the people a leader which they
longed for. Their long tradition of obedience to authority and the retarded development of
political and civil freedom was a sign that was also spotted by William Shirer as he claimed
Acceptance of autocracy, of blind obedience to the petty tyrants who ruled as princes, became
ingrained in the German mind. [6] hence the immense support shown in the election results, in
November election 1933, they gained 92.9% of the overall votes. This was an achievement which
cannot be credited solely to terrorism, still less to fraud.[7] Flenly s interpretation also points out
that the people gave their approval

Eastern media market successfully. MTV Management team s focused on identifying the internal
strengths, internal weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to construct a corporate level strategy to
