Throughout The Past Century, China Has Powered Through
Throughout the past century, China has powered through the obstacles of famine, unrest, economic
dislocation, and enormous construction costs to continue its rapid development. Now a preeminent
world power, China faces yet another development challenge: climate change. Current and past trends
suggest that China will treat this problem as it has the other issues, ignoring damage to public welfare
while maintaining an obsessive fixation on projecting an image of modernity. The one potential saving
grace would be a shift in global attitudes about modernity; if the world begins to consider
environmentally sustainable development as a necessary condition to modernity, China will have to
consider environmental concerns in order to maintain its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to the death of 200 million during the Great Leap Forward, the visible climate issues like
flooding and air pollution feel tolerable. As Chinese industry develops, cities are growing with barely
a pause to consider their toll on the environment, much less the future impact of global warming. The
lack of concern for visible, short term issues spells doubt on China s ability to handle longer term
climate issues like rising sea levels.
Nowhere is the lack of concern for short term issues more pronounced than in the Pearl River Delta,
where the growing metropolises of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan lie. The rising South China
Sea and the overstressed Pearl River network neighboring the cities lie just a meter or so below much
of the region s industrial center. Despite the extreme danger posed by the rising waters (tens of
thousands of citizens lost their homes during flooding in Guangzhou), the Chinese government has
continued development and remained mum on the issues. The authorities would rather show off the
region s shiny new office towers and airports than fix costly sewers that could help with flooding.
According to some in the city, people here still focus on the economic side of things, similarly
ignoring climatic dangers. Just like in the previous century, wilful ignorance of consequences during
the pursuit of modernization pervades Chinese society: This became our idea of progress, said one
citizen we thought

Political Involvement os Power of the Public
Political Involvement
The primary reason for political involvement in government intervention is the power of public
opinion. When the people collectively begin to aggressively voice their concerns for a certain action to
take place, it forces the hand of the government to act in response to that distress (Kraft and Furlong,
2013). There are currently nineteen states that offer a higher minimum wage than the federal mandate.
Thirteen states raised their minimum wage levels on January 1, 2014, increasing the purchasing power
of the lowest paid workers in each respective state, some of the increases were under fifteen cents
(United States Department of Labor).
It is projected that minimum wage increases will drive consumer spending; and ... Show more content

The winners in this case would be the workforce earning another $.10 $.25 per hour and this calculates
to an additional $10.00 per week or $520.00 per year with a quarter per hour. However, this can add
up very fast when this is required for hundreds of employees for big businesses (Miller, 2013). It has
to be decided what regulation will do the most common good in the long run, and this never been a
popular assessment to be required to undertake. The benefits such as educational assistance, life
insurance, or travel accident insurance are generally a matter of agreement between an employer and
an employee. In return for the increased wages some employers have opted to drop insurance
coverage plans or lay off workers to help and compensate for some of their losses (United States
Department of Labor).
Theoretical Model
Elite Theory
There are several different theories and models used in general politics and the creation of public
policies. These models and theories help to simplify the understanding of how some things work
(Kraft and Furlong, 2013). According to the Elite Theory perception the general public has little to no
impact on the regulation of public policies. All of the policy changing authority is within the elite
population. The elite theory stresses the fact that partiality is given to the governing body of elites
(Kraft and Furlong, 2013). The policy players in this group include financial

History Of Semaphore Beach
A history of your chosen beach
Semaphore is located just outside off Port Adelaide. Natural processes that affect Semaphore Beach
are to create a breakwater along the coast of Semaphore, if the breakwater was in anyway successful it
would eventually be turned into a permanent concrete structure. For years In Port Adelaide an
environmental group (PAEPG) has been campaigned against the sand mining at Semaphore, It was
creating problems for housing in the surrounding areas. (This info was published by Dylan Ferguson
in 2003 about A Sand Mining problem that also effected sand dunes in the area). The picture on the

Causes of World War II Essay
Causes of World War II When Hitler came to power in 1933 he made several of actions that some
years later lead to war. These actions were re armament, leaving the league of nations, re militarism of
the Rhineland, the spanish civil war, the lightning war and the alliances with Italy and Japan. Hitler s
aims were clear, he wanted lebensraum (living space) in order to gain self sufficiency, wanted to
abolish the treaty of Versailles and revenge for those who signed it. And some years after he seized
power it was clear he wanted to dominate the whole of Europe and the rest of the world. The Second

By 1935 rearmament was well underway. This involved conscription and munitions factories.
Rearmament alarmed the French who, feeling insecure, reinforced the Maginot line (built between
1929 and 1934). This was a line of steel and concrete fortifications stretching from Belgium to
Switzerland, Germany would be able to avoid it and invade France via Belgium. France remained
passive without Britain s support. Britain was sympathetic towards Germany and even signed an
Anglo German naval Treaty (June 1935) allowing Germany s navy to be 35% of the size of the Royal
Navy. Hitler used his new found arms to support Franco in the Spanish Civil War (1936 9) Hitler sent
the Condor Legion of the Luftwaffe to bomb Guernica on 26th April, 1937. Guernica was razed to the
ground and Franco went on to conquer the Basque areas of Spain. Hitler had used Spain as a practice
ground. Having broken the Treaty of Versailles once, Hitler risked doing it a second time by marching
30,000 troops into Rhineland on 7th March 1936. France, with 250,000 troops mobilised, remained
passive because Britain would not support her. To show that his remilitarization was popular, Hitler
held a plebiscite, which showed that 98.8% were

The Power Of Destiny In Macbeth
Thesis
Shakespeare s Macbeth details the outside entities which hold complete influence in the title character
s rise to the Scottish throne and his following demise, ultimately arguing that we have no power to
create our own destiny in the real world.
Body #1
In Macbeth, the most obvious entities controlling the title character s fate are the Three Weird Sisters,
meant both in the play and in classic myth to represent weavers of destiny. Evidence of the sisters
ability to manipulate the future indicating that individuals have no control over the outcome of their
lives is abundant in their dialogue. When Macbeth meets the sisters deliberately seeking wisdom for
the future, the first apparition warns him Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood
to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him. [. (4.1.105 107). When he asks for one more word, the
second tells him Laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.
(4.1.81 83). Given these excerpts, it is clear the witches are not independent agents playing on
Macbeth s ambition and merely giving him the idea of murder to become king, but are rather privy to
information about his future. The power of the witches goes beyond their power is limited to being
able to foresee events. On the contrary, scenes in the play highlight the power of the witches to cause
mayhem within the lives of people. When the sisters are first presented in the story, the first asserts I

My First Certificate Course Of Computer Science
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The computer technology has ushered in a revolution that is unprecedented in its sweep. Its effect on
the everyday lives of ordinary people has been phenomenal. Right from the super satellite control
stations to the grocer s shop, the multinational company and the busy kitchen in the home this
technology is all pervasive, all consuming. This is what makes it one of the most challenging fields as
it not only meets needs but has the power to create new needs, rules and total environments of its own.
I completed my first certificate course in computers in 1995, it was on GWBASIC language. Since
then, computers became a curiosity for me. Due to financial problems at home back then, I could not
take admission in an undergraduate course of computer engineering. Therefore, I joined Bachelor of
Science degree (B.Sc.) course with major in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In the second year
of graduation, I decided to take admission in Master degree course in Computer Science (MCA).
MCA is a three year rigorous course that specializes in computer science. During MCA, subjects like
Discrete Mathematics, C programming, OOPS and C++, Operating Systems, Numerical Methods,
Software Engineering, Databases etc. were my area of focus.
The last semester of MCA was internship program with sumIT Infosoft P Ltd, where I developed a
web based bidding system for one of the clients. Here, I got real exposure to the world of software.
The internship program helped me to

Essay on The Patriot
The Patriot, written by Robert Rodat, takes place in South Carolina and reveals a widowed father s
love for his family and trying to keep them together, despite the Revolutionary War that had begun.
Trying to keep his demons from reappearing, Benjamin Martin faces his fear of his past coming back
to haunt him after serving in the French and Indian War. Martin is a South Carolina farmer who lost
his wife, Elizabeth, and reluctantly signs up to join the Continental Army after his eldest son, Gabriel
joined the regulars to fight against the British. After a battle began on Martin s plantation, Benjamin
helped wounded soldiers from both sides and was approached by William Tavington, a colonel with
the British. During this confrontation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stood up to his own father and those who believed that the British should be killed not fought, and
fought to the end for the cause of freedom. Between Gabriel s dedication to the cause and Benjamin
Martin s military experience, the dedication of the men fighting, the cause of freedom was fought on
all fronts. However, during the fights, many men were lost, including another of Benjamin Martin s
sons, Gabriel. After Gabriel s death, Martin s fears were solidified and vowed not to fight for anyone s
causes. However, he realized that being a true patriot was the only way to honor his son s deaths, so he
fought for the cause of freedom and was truly victorious in his fights.
While The Patriot was a very successful major motion picture, characters from the movie actually
mirror those of characters that were indeed real. Colonel Tavington s character is based on the life of
Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton the subordinate of Lt. General Charles Earl Cornwallis of the British Army.
Benjamin Martin s character was based on Francis Marion (which is also now a famous hotel in
historic downtown Charleston), also known as Swamp Fox fought Indians. In the movie Martin and
his men destroyed the Indians, however in the reality Marion and just a few of his men survived.
Not only were there differences in the characters in the movie and those of the real

Montgomery Bus Boycott
During the 1950 s African Americans were technically equal in the eyes of the law, but not to most of
the southern citizens. Segregation was a time of division between whites and African Americans in
regards to bathrooms, public amenities, schools etc. t all of the country was like this, the occupants
ofnorthern America were open and not as racist towards African Americans. In 1955, African
Americans obligated by Montgomery, Alabama, city ordinance to sit in the back city buses and to give
up their seats to white people ifthe front half ofthe bus was full. On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks was

Constitution. The 14th amendment guarantees all citizens, regardless of race, equal rights and equal
protection under state and federal laws. The city appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which upheld
the lower court s decision on December 20, 1956. Montgomery s buses were integrated on December
21, 1956, and the boycott ended. It had lasted 381 days. Even though in the eyes of the law the buses
were integrated and the issue had been dealt with, African Americans still had to go through adversity
and resistance from white people that usually resulted in violence. While the busses were integrated
the people of Montgomery, Alabama figured out a new way to discriminate against African
Americans, they retaliated with integrated bus stops and even violence. Occasionally snipers were
paid to fire into public busses at African Americans in order to kill them and send a message. In
January 1957, four black churches and the homes of prominent black leaders were bombed; a bomb at
King s house was defuseq. On January 30, 1957, the Montgomery police arrested seven bombers; all
were members of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist group. The arrests largely brought an end to
the busing related violence. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a very important and vital part in the
civil rights movement for many reasons. First, it was the one of the first mass protests on civil rights in
the U.S. The Montgomery bus boycott set the stage for other large protests outside the court system to
bring fair treatment for African Americans. Second, Martin Luther King came up as a prominent
national leader of the civil rights movement while also.keeping true to his commitment to nonviolent
protest. Shortly after the boycott s end, he

Essay on Repairing Spinal Cord Injuries
Injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere. Injuries affect people s lives as they limit their choices,
temporarily or permanently. Most injuries are not preventable, because most happen unexpectedly. For
example, spinal cord injuries can occur if a person falls abruptly on his/her back and shatters their
spinal cord. Although injuries cannot be prevented, they can be healed. New technologies are under
development to solve major injuries, which do not yet have a cure. One of these major injuries is a
spinal cord injury.
The human body consists of many important systems. The nervous system is one of these that ensure
survival of a person. The nervous system is split into two main parts. The spinal cord and the brain
make up the Central ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This results in either a loss of sensation, or a loss of perception. According to the Rick Hansen Spinal
Cord Injury Registry, vehicle accidents make up 46% of spinal cord injuries. Acts of violence (from
knife wounds or gun shots) make up 11% of spinal cord injuries. Falls and sports injuries make up
24%, industrial accidents (damages from chemicals) make up 5%, and other injuries (such as
inflammation of the spinal cord) make up 14% of spinal cord injuries. The survival rate is reasonably
high for those suffering from spinal cord injuries, but life will never be normal again. Since the
connection between the brain and the receptor or effector is damaged, stimulations may not be
interpreted or signals may not reach the effector. This might result in loss of balance, coordination,
loss of sensation, uncontrolled movements, and paralysis.
It is important to note that nerves in the CNS do not regenerate, while nerves in the PNS do
regenerate. This is why when a person gets a cut; it completely heals in several days. But a person
with spinal cord injury cannot completely heal because spinal cord does not contain neurilemma, a
membrane that promotes regeneration of neurons. It was thought that the neurons would not
regenerate once damaged. However, research has found that they do indeed have the ability to
regenerate if scars do not obstruct the regenerative process. Scars are the result of astrocytes and

What Causes Lactose Intolerance
What Causes Lactose Deficiency And How It Can Be Diagnosed Lactose intolerance is considered to
be the inability to break a kind of natural sugar, which is referred to as lactose. It is commonly
established in dairy products including milk and yogurt. If a person is said to be lactose intolerant,
then his/her small intestine will stop making enough amount of lactase enzyme in order to digest or
break down the lactose. The undigested lactose will move towards the large intestine, when this
happens. The bacteria, which are usually available within the large intestine will get interact with
those undigested lactose and in turn, cause symptoms like gas, diarrhea and bloating. This condition
might also be regarded as lactase deficiency. In fact, lactose intolerance is widely seen in adults,
specifically those with African, Asian, Mediterranean Ancestry or Native American. According to
some recent studies, about 30 million American individuals of age 20 are lactose intolerant. Even
though the condition is not serious, yet it might be unpleasant. Actually, the signs of lactose
intolerance arise about 30 minutes to 2 hours after ingesting milk or else several other dairy products
with lactose. Individuals who are suffering from lactose intolerant should avoid consuming those
products or of course take medicines that contain the enzyme lactase before doing so. The symptoms
could range out of mild to severe. Typically, the severity relies on the quantity of lactose you have
consumed and also the amount of lactase, which the individual has actually made. ... Show more

The Effects Of Withdrawal On Biological And Social Health
Tolerance and withdrawal of an addictive substance is what I believe causes the most damage to the
biological and social health of an individual because, with tolerance, a person needs more of a drug in
order to achieve the same effects they felt previously with smaller amounts. And with withdrawal, a
series of symptoms that may appear when a drug on which a user is physically dependent is stopped or
significantly reduced. The withdrawal symptoms vary depending on a range of factors including the
drug type and tend to be opposite to the effects produced by the drug. The body is always trying to

Another unique occurrence during Andrew Jackson s term was how for the first time the United States

only time in the U.S.history that this has ever occurred. Opposite of Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew
Jackson was a leader of the Democratic Party. Andrew Jackson was the man that implemented the

The Collar And To The Virgins, By George Herbert And...
Renaissance poets explain their experience through religion, nature, and love; poets would also write
fictional poetry. Poets, George Herbert and Robert Herrick provide a biblical view on the relationship
between God and man. For instance, Herbert s poem Love explains how man is guilty of his sins and
if he is still worthy of God s love. Herbert explained that man should serve the Lord out of humility.
Aside from his God fearing nature, both men share a desire for freedom from religious devotion. They
feel that their commitment to God hinders them from gaining freedom as a normal person, such as
participating in a town activity and venturing the city streets freely. Herbert and Herrick express their
opinions on freedom, relationship between God and man, and poet characteristics. Herbert and
Herrick s poems The Collar and To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, portray a sense of freedom
and time. In Herbert s poem The Collar, the speaker wants to enjoy life without any religious acts. For
instance, he wants to pick fruits and wear garlands; however, the speaker feels like a captive to his
devotion to the Lord. He wants to enjoy life, for he is afraid of disobeying God. The title The Collar
indicates a slave of God . One can assume that Herbert s dedication to God s worship prevents him
from gaining freedom and time to a free world. Herrick s poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of
Time, the speaker compares nature s aspects to time. For example, he compares blooming flowers to

The World s Wife Carol Ann Duffy Analysis
The World s Wife is a collection of poems by Carol Anne Duffy published in 1999. Throughout Duffy
s collection of the poems she represents women from history, myths and fairy tales, particularly those
whose stories tend to be defined by men, or who have only a cameo appearance in male dominated
scenarios. The Worlds Wife collection explores the themes of sexism, inequality and stereotypes,
which women, sadly still face in modern society. In Duffy s collection some poems look at the story of
the man from a woman s perspective, such as the poem Mrs Aesop . Other poem s stories have been
slightly altered like The Kray Sisters. As we already know the Kray Twins are two male English
gangsters from the East End of London during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of the same sentence the speaker says you came at last at the edge of the woods. The full
stop of this sentence further emphasises the speaker s childhood ending because the whole sentence of

up within the speaker, as she is stepping out of her comfort zone. Little Red continues on saying I
made sure he spotted me. This line makes the speaker sound quite dominating as Little Red was
demanding the Wolf to watch her. Already we can get a sense of reversed roles, as stereotypically men
are seen as more dominating in relationships than woman, but it is Little Red who is dictating in their
relationship. Little Red towards the end of the poem, after 10 years of their relationship describes it as
year in, year out, season after season, same rhyme, same season. The constant repetition is an imagery
how bored Little Red is with her relationship with the greying wolf and that she desires something
new in her life, something more exciting. Also, the sibilance emphasises how irritated Little Red is
becoming towards her partner, as the s sound mirrors the sound of an evil snake, linking to the next
sentence when Little Red describes how she took an axe/to a willow to see how it wept. These two

David Hume s A Treatise Of Human Nature
The argument I shall address for this paper is found on page 385, from David Hume s A Treatise of
Human Nature. In Book 1, he takes a skeptic view on the philosophy of personal identity by making
the claim that there is no such thing as a self. According to Hume, for there to be a self it must be
constant and stable, yet all of our knowledge comes from impressions (perceptions that come from
sensory experience) that are only fleeting: pain and pleasure, grief and joy, passions and sensations
succeed each other, and never all exist at the same time, (Hume 385). His first argument is structured
as follows:
(1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from impressions, or experience.
(2) Thus, if an idea of a self exists then it must be derived from impressions.
(3) For any impression to bring about the idea of a self, that impression must persist, unchanged,
throughout our entire life.
(4) Because our perception constantly changes, we are unable to experience all the impressions at the
same time.
(5) Thus, there is no impression that meets the criteria set forth in (3).
(6) Thus, the idea of a self cannot be derived from impressions.
(7) Therefore, there is no such thing as an idea of a self.
I do believe that Hume s argument is valid because the premises entail the conclusion. However, I do
not think his argument is sound due to issues I find with the premises. My objection below specifically
challenges his sixth premise:
(1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from

The Reasons Behind the Decline of the Mughal Empire Essay
The Mughal Empire was the first large empire in India since the Gupta Empire (nearly a millennium
years of difference); it was made up of many ethnicities, a variety of geographic localities, and
hundreds of nobles and their principalities. At its largest extent, this empire contained over 140 million
inhabitants, as well as encompassing 3.5 million square kilometers. However, as all empires do, the
Mughal Empire faced many difficulties, and by the turn of the 19th century, had weakened
significantly. The first leader of the Mughal Empire in India was Babur, who reigned from 1527 1530.
His original territory was in Afghanistan, but had aspirations to move into the weakened Indian
subcontinent. The clincher for this move was when a noble ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This makes sense when first looked at, but the imperial overstretch argument ignores the fact that as
late as the 18th century, India was the second wealthiest society in the world. In 1526, Babur is said to
have invaded India with 12,000 cavalrymen, but by the time of Shah Jahan, the imperial military
reached 300,000 soldiers, of whom 200,000 were armed cavalrymen. The only way that the Mughals
could support so massive a military was with an equally massive military budget. According to the
economic historian Angus Maddison, India had been the largest economy in the world until it was
surpassed in size by China, circa 1500, and between 1500 and 1700, the subcontinent still accounted
for a full 25 percent of total world economic output. India was so wealthy during this period that in
1600, government revenues reached 100 million rupees, which was equivalent to 17.6 million pounds
sterling; an amount that would not be matched by the British imperial treasury until the mid 19th
century. By 1700, the imperial budget had doubled in size, to 200 million silver rupees, and so the
Mughals could finance almost constant warfare. The administration of the Mughal economy was
directly related to the war making capabilities of the Empire. The relationship between war making
and economic management was at the heart of the patronage and ranking system that distributed

Blow In Hamlet
Shakespeare s Hamlet is one of the greatest tragedies of all. The character of Hamlet is one who has
deeply rooted conflicts, that come into the light. From start to finish, one can see Hamlet s mind warp.
Throughout the play, Hamlet is manipulated, lied to, and driven insane. He is the victim at the end.
Hamlet wants to avenge his father because his uncle killed him. However, the world around Hamlet is
falling apart and he is only doing his best to right all the wrongs he can. His judgment may be
clouded, but there are still bouts of sense from him throughout the play. Shakespeare strategically
plays off of the language, mainly with the word: seems . He uses this word to show the multifaceted
ways of the characters. In Hamlet, nothing is true as it seems to be.

the great state is composed of an addition peninsula. These two peninsulas are surround by 5 great

These drainage basins that formed 6,000 years ago are the origin of the Great Lakes we are familiar
with today. These glacial lakes are thought to much larger than the current bodies of water surrounding
Michigan. The evidence of these lakes can be found, for example, around Saginaw bay where there
are eroded bluffs and plains located far away from the current Lake. Glaciers also left us many
moraines in the state of Michigan. Moraines are land masses where debris, carried by glaciers has
formed ridges or mounds. Moraines can be an indicator of the end of a large glacial retreat. Moraines
are created by the wasting ice sheet and are composed of glacial till. Glacial till (unsorted glacial
sediment) is laid down quickly as the glacier moves and is composed of various sediments with many
rocks and stones. In Michigan there are many famous moraines. As the lucky residents of Marquette
we can look out our windows and see evidence of glaciers because of all of our rolling hills. Rolling
landforms are a typifying aspect of a moraine.
The great lakes have certainly influenced Michigan s unique shape and distinctive mitten shape,
however those lakes aren t the only sources of water that contribute. There are over 36,000 miles of
rivers and streams throughout the state of Michigan that have also helped shape the land we enjoy
today. Rivers help shape landscapes through erosion and the transportation and deposition of

Expansion of Top Level Domain
AGAINST THE MOTION

Expansion of domain name for the benefit of users and companies as proposed by Internet
Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has many major flaws. According to
Association of National Advertisers: ICANN s proposed program for increasing competition,
promoting, innovation, addressing an alleged shortage of Internet addresses and helping differentiate
products and services is deeply flawed. (Association of National Advisers , 2011). The justification to
expand the domain name, that new gTLDs would facilitate customer search, promotes consumer
welfare, even though the registration cost for a new domain is excessively high and would harm the
brand name is flawed. The expansion of domain name will open internet for criminal activity where
felons can cyber squat in the name of trusted brands. Objections raised by stakeholders had not been
addressed adequately and the decision is mostly influenced by the parties getting directly benefits
from this program and not those going to get affected. Since beginning ICANN is proposing
introduction of new gTLDs without completing the comprehensive economic study of the domain
name registration market and, without having a completely developed understanding of the economic
realities of the domain marketplace. Thus, various communities are raising concerns for introduction
of new gTLDs. (Association of National

The Freedom to the Choice of Abortion
We all live our lives as we please all in accordance to the law, but when it comes to abortion people
start to judge and try to regulate how others live and interfere in their personal choices. We live in a
country based on freedoms, and women have and should continue to have the freedom to the choice of
an abortion. A woman s right to choose abortion is a fundamental right recognized by the US Supreme
Court. The courts also have a category of classes called the near suspect classes, which include gender.
Gender deserves protection from possible discrimination at the hands of the majority. Women
constitute a majority of American s and have been discriminated in the past. The Landmark case Roe
v. Wade was decided and remains the law of the land. Making laws against abortions don t stop
abortions from happening; they just make it less safe, which in many cases leads to death. Therefore
idea of supporting pro life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro choice. No child
should be brought into this world where they are not wanted or are not able to live a normal life. Most
people who are against abortion will never even become pregnant, so they should not be making laws
against it. Pregnancy is a private and personal matter. Outlawing abortion is discriminatory and
unfortunately abortions are being transformed from a right to a privilege for most women.
Abortion represents a woman s right to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy, and this is a

Literacy, Opportunity, And Economic Change
This critique will be of chapter one of the book Literacy in American Lives. The author of this book is
Dr. Deborah Brandt, a professor of English at Wisconsin Madison University and her main focus in
Literacy in American Lives is to study about how people have learned to read, how they use their
ability to read, and how literacy learning changes with time. In this first chapter Literacy, Opportunity,

the impact that this change in the value of literacy has in the lives of two farm women from

two women by which she has given the names Martha Day and Barbara Hunt. Martha Day grew up on
a farm in a time near the 1920 s; she did well in high school but did not pursue a higher education

Explain What Makes A Good Role Model
What makes a good role model and how can I ensure that I act as a role model for employees I
supervise? To be a good role model it boils down to three basic things Practice what you preach, be
kind to people and know your job. People are going to imitate those that they admire, so if you are the
manager and you are lax in the guidelines, policy and procedure that you choose to follow, chances are
the employees that you are supervising will follow your lead and they will also be lax in their
treatment of the workplace policy and procedure. This leads to a very untidy workplace both in person
and attitude. Knowing when you can bend the rules a little for a customer who is having a bad day or
if you are looking to build a little goodwill between yourself and a client, but the rules are there for a
reason and must never be broken. Your attitude reflects on your work ethic and being a manager or a
supervisor your work place behavior and attitude are going be held to a higher standard as an example
of the way you would like your staff to conduct them selves. Now when it comes to being kind to your

Are Prisons Obsolete, By Angela Davis
Prompt 2 First Draft
Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) is a term used to describe the overlapping interests of government
and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to social, economic, and
political problems. Angela Davis is a journalist and American political activist who believes that the
U.S practice of super incarceration is closer to new age slavery than any system of criminal justice.
She defines the PIC as biased for criminalizing communities of color and used to make profit for
corporations from the prisoner s suffering. In her book, Are Prisons Obsolete?, she argues that the
prison systems are no longer in use and out of date since prisons just keep increasing as each become
more and more populated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Luis Valdez and Peter Malae represented the PIC as a social problem of segregating people from
different races, meaning that the prisoners would only be surrounded by people of the same race as
themselves. In addition, Lis Valdez and Peter Malae also concentrated on representing the PIC as
formation of problems occurring from isolating prisoners in their cells without any contact from
anyone or anything. One of the differences between the way that Luis Valdez and Peter Malae
represent the PIC is that Luis Valdez focuses on the issue of mass media images revolving around
Mexicans/Mexican Descents. This issue uses media to keep stereotypes alive of Mexican/Mexican
Descents that makes all of them perceived as criminals. Another difference between the way that Peter
Malae and Luis Valdez represent the PIC is that Peter Malae focuses on the lack of freedom and

The public trust in governmental agencies was for first time swatted in Flint, Michigan, when a
catastrophic event claimed 12 lives, due to corrosion of lead pipes. This was because of a gross
negligence of the states appointed emergency manager who decided to switch Flint s public water
source, to Michigan river. This oversight would have been mitigated by the Michigan Department of
Environmental Quality (MDEQ), but unfortunately the agency did not delegate the required federally
corrosion control treatment. Even with complaints of the brown, smelly, lead laden tap water The ...

it is therefore considered safe since municipal water supplies are also regulated by the FDA, in
addition, bottled water company typically reprocess the portable municipal supplies through
distillation, reverse osmosis, and ozonation. Municipal water supply accounts for about 45 percent of
bottled water sold in the united what this means is that bottled water may not any different from tap
water, and according to the IBWA, most FDA bottled water quality standards are the same as the EPA
s maximum contaminant levels (MCL) for tap water systems. In other words, some bottled water
might not be treated as claimed by the IBWA. The EPA sets standards for maximum contaminant in

When it comes to the topic of safety of Tap water or Bottled water, most of us or the Food and Drug
Administration or the Environmental Protection Agency enthusiast will readily agree that without a
doubt, we have a drinking water system that s the envy of the world, that it s an urban myth that
Bottled water is safer than Tap Water. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question

The Fit Shop
The Fit Shop Ltd. is a brand new firm that will open its doors exactly four months from today. Its
business objective is to sell all types of training, fitness, conditioning, and exercise equipment to the
general public. The Fit Stop plans to specialize in this equipment and to provide customers with
personalized advice geared to a customer s specific training or conditioning needs (e.g. training for a
particular sport, rehabilitation from injuries, strengthening of specific muscle groups to deal with back
pain, general conditioning and fitness), regardless of the age of the customer.
In order to provide high quality advice, each store will employ a physiotherapist (to provide advice on

Because of the high level of training required virtually all employees will be full time. The exception
will be students who are enrolled in physiotherapy or kinesiology, will be employed on a part time
basis.
The founder of the business is Susan Superfit, who has an undergraduate degree in both kinesiology
and commerce from the University of Saskatchewan. While at university, she participated in numerous
sports (and suffered frequent injuries due to her all out style of play). She came up with the idea for
this business while laid up with one of her injuries. While there were businesses that sold fitness and
conditioning equipment, she often found that the people selling them had very limited knowledge
about the products and often gave poor advice on what to buy and how to use it.
She has secured funding from private investors and venture capitalist. In order to get volume discounts
on the equipment that she will be purchasing and to beat competitors in the marketplace, she wants to
start with stores in major cities in Ontario and the four western provinces before expanding into
Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. She knows that this is a risky strategy, and that cost control will be
essential to keep the business going long enough to become well known and develop a stable clientele.
Susan does not expect the business to make a profit for a least a few years.
Her main

  • 2. Throughout The Past Century, China Has Powered Through Throughout the past century, China has powered through the obstacles of famine, unrest, economic dislocation, and enormous construction costs to continue its rapid development. Now a preeminent world power, China faces yet another development challenge: climate change. Current and past trends suggest that China will treat this problem as it has the other issues, ignoring damage to public welfare while maintaining an obsessive fixation on projecting an image of modernity. The one potential saving grace would be a shift in global attitudes about modernity; if the world begins to consider environmentally sustainable development as a necessary condition to modernity, China will have to consider environmental concerns in order to maintain its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compared to the death of 200 million during the Great Leap Forward, the visible climate issues like flooding and air pollution feel tolerable. As Chinese industry develops, cities are growing with barely a pause to consider their toll on the environment, much less the future impact of global warming. The lack of concern for visible, short term issues spells doubt on China s ability to handle longer term climate issues like rising sea levels. Nowhere is the lack of concern for short term issues more pronounced than in the Pearl River Delta, where the growing metropolises of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan lie. The rising South China Sea and the overstressed Pearl River network neighboring the cities lie just a meter or so below much of the region s industrial center. Despite the extreme danger posed by the rising waters (tens of thousands of citizens lost their homes during flooding in Guangzhou), the Chinese government has continued development and remained mum on the issues. The authorities would rather show off the region s shiny new office towers and airports than fix costly sewers that could help with flooding. According to some in the city, people here still focus on the economic side of things, similarly ignoring climatic dangers. Just like in the previous century, wilful ignorance of consequences during the pursuit of modernization pervades Chinese society: This became our idea of progress, said one citizen we thought ... • 3. Political Involvement os Power of the Public Political Involvement The primary reason for political involvement in government intervention is the power of public opinion. When the people collectively begin to aggressively voice their concerns for a certain action to take place, it forces the hand of the government to act in response to that distress (Kraft and Furlong, 2013). There are currently nineteen states that offer a higher minimum wage than the federal mandate. Thirteen states raised their minimum wage levels on January 1, 2014, increasing the purchasing power of the lowest paid workers in each respective state, some of the increases were under fifteen cents (United States Department of Labor). It is projected that minimum wage increases will drive consumer spending; and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The winners in this case would be the workforce earning another $.10 $.25 per hour and this calculates to an additional $10.00 per week or $520.00 per year with a quarter per hour. However, this can add up very fast when this is required for hundreds of employees for big businesses (Miller, 2013). It has to be decided what regulation will do the most common good in the long run, and this never been a popular assessment to be required to undertake. The benefits such as educational assistance, life insurance, or travel accident insurance are generally a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee. In return for the increased wages some employers have opted to drop insurance coverage plans or lay off workers to help and compensate for some of their losses (United States Department of Labor). Theoretical Model Elite Theory There are several different theories and models used in general politics and the creation of public policies. These models and theories help to simplify the understanding of how some things work (Kraft and Furlong, 2013). According to the Elite Theory perception the general public has little to no impact on the regulation of public policies. All of the policy changing authority is within the elite population. The elite theory stresses the fact that partiality is given to the governing body of elites (Kraft and Furlong, 2013). The policy players in this group include financial ... Hitler s aims were clear, he wanted lebensraum (living space) in order to gain self sufficiency, wanted to abolish the treaty of Versailles and revenge for those who signed it. France remained passive without Britain s support. Britain was sympathetic towards Germany and even signed an Anglo German naval Treaty (June 1935) allowing Germany s navy to be 35% of the size of the Royal Navy. • 7. The Power Of Destiny In Macbeth Thesis Shakespeare s Macbeth details the outside entities which hold complete influence in the title character s rise to the Scottish throne and his following demise, ultimately arguing that we have no power to create our own destiny in the real world. Body #1 In Macbeth, the most obvious entities controlling the title character s fate are the Three Weird Sisters, meant both in the play and in classic myth to represent weavers of destiny. Evidence of the sisters ability to manipulate the future indicating that individuals have no control over the outcome of their lives is abundant in their dialogue. When Macbeth meets the sisters deliberately seeking wisdom for the future, the first apparition warns him Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him. [. (4.1.105 107). When he asks for one more word, the second tells him Laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth. (4.1.81 83). Given these excerpts, it is clear the witches are not independent agents playing on Macbeth s ambition and merely giving him the idea of murder to become king, but are rather privy to information about his future. The power of the witches goes beyond their power is limited to being able to foresee events. On the contrary, scenes in the play highlight the power of the witches to cause mayhem within the lives of people. • 8. My First Certificate Course Of Computer Science STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The computer technology has ushered in a revolution that is unprecedented in its sweep. Its effect on the everyday lives of ordinary people has been phenomenal. Right from the super satellite control stations to the grocer s shop, the multinational company and the busy kitchen in the home this technology is all pervasive, all consuming. This is what makes it one of the most challenging fields as it not only meets needs but has the power to create new needs, rules and total environments of its own. I completed my first certificate course in computers in 1995, it was on GWBASIC language. Since then, computers became a curiosity for me. Due to financial problems at home back then, I could not take admission in an undergraduate course of computer engineering. Therefore, I joined Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) course with major in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In the second year of graduation, I decided to take admission in Master degree course in Computer Science (MCA). MCA is a three year rigorous course that specializes in computer science. During MCA, subjects like Discrete Mathematics, C programming, OOPS and C++, Operating Systems, Numerical Methods, Software Engineering, Databases etc. were my area of focus. The last semester of MCA was internship program with sumIT Infosoft P Ltd, where I developed a web based bidding system for one of the clients. Here, I got real exposure to the world of software. It had lasted 381 days. Even though in the eyes of the law the buses were integrated and the issue had been dealt with, African Americans still had to go through adversity and resistance from white people that usually resulted in violence. While the busses were integrated the people of Montgomery, Alabama figured out a new way to discriminate against African Americans, they retaliated with integrated bus stops and even violence. Occasionally snipers were paid to fire into public busses at African Americans in order to kill them and send a message. In January 1957, four black churches and the homes of prominent black leaders were bombed; a bomb at King s house was defuseq. On January 30, 1957, the Montgomery police arrested seven bombers; all were members of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist group. The arrests largely brought an end to the busing related violence. • 12. What Causes Lactose Intolerance What Causes Lactose Deficiency And How It Can Be Diagnosed Lactose intolerance is considered to be the inability to break a kind of natural sugar, which is referred to as lactose. It is commonly established in dairy products including milk and yogurt. If a person is said to be lactose intolerant, then his/her small intestine will stop making enough amount of lactase enzyme in order to digest or break down the lactose. The undigested lactose will move towards the large intestine, when this happens. The bacteria, which are usually available within the large intestine will get interact with those undigested lactose and in turn, cause symptoms like gas, diarrhea and bloating. This condition might also be regarded as lactase deficiency. In fact, lactose intolerance is widely seen in adults, specifically those with African, Asian, Mediterranean Ancestry or Native American. According to some recent studies, about 30 million American individuals of age 20 are lactose intolerant. Even though the condition is not serious, yet it might be unpleasant. Actually, the signs of lactose intolerance arise about 30 minutes to 2 hours after ingesting milk or else several other dairy products with lactose. Individuals who are suffering from lactose intolerant should avoid consuming those products or of course take medicines that contain the enzyme lactase before doing so. Poets, George Herbert and Robert Herrick provide a biblical view on the relationship between God and man. For instance, Herbert s poem Love explains how man is guilty of his sins and if he is still worthy of God s love. Herbert explained that man should serve the Lord out of humility. Aside from his God fearing nature, both men share a desire for freedom from religious devotion. In Herbert s poem The Collar, the speaker wants to enjoy life without any religious acts. For instance, he wants to pick fruits and wear garlands; however, the speaker feels like a captive to his devotion to the Lord. He wants to enjoy life, for he is afraid of disobeying God. • 23. David Hume s A Treatise Of Human Nature The argument I shall address for this paper is found on page 385, from David Hume s A Treatise of Human Nature. In Book 1, he takes a skeptic view on the philosophy of personal identity by making the claim that there is no such thing as a self. According to Hume, for there to be a self it must be constant and stable, yet all of our knowledge comes from impressions (perceptions that come from sensory experience) that are only fleeting: pain and pleasure, grief and joy, passions and sensations succeed each other, and never all exist at the same time, (Hume 385). His first argument is structured as follows: (1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from impressions, or experience. (2) Thus, if an idea of a self exists then it must be derived from impressions. (3) For any impression to bring about the idea of a self, that impression must persist, unchanged, throughout our entire life. (4) Because our perception constantly changes, we are unable to experience all the impressions at the same time. (5) Thus, there is no impression that meets the criteria set forth in (3). (6) Thus, the idea of a self cannot be derived from impressions. (7) Therefore, there is no such thing as an idea of a self. I do believe that Hume s argument is valid because the premises entail the conclusion. However, I do not think his argument is sound due to issues I find with the premises. My objection below specifically challenges his sixth premise: (1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The only way that the Mughals could support so massive a military was with an equally massive military budget. According to the economic historian Angus Maddison, India had been the largest economy in the world until it was surpassed in size by China, circa 1500, and between 1500 and 1700, the subcontinent still accounted for a full 25 percent of total world economic output. India was so wealthy during this period that in 1600, government revenues reached 100 million rupees, which was equivalent to 17.6 million pounds sterling; an amount that would not be matched by the British imperial treasury until the mid 19th century. By 1700, the imperial budget had doubled in size, to 200 million silver rupees, and so the Mughals could finance almost constant warfare. Moraines can be an indicator of the end of a large glacial retreat. Moraines are created by the wasting ice sheet and are composed of glacial till. Glacial till (unsorted glacial sediment) is laid down quickly as the glacier moves and is composed of various sediments with many rocks and stones. In Michigan there are many famous moraines. As the lucky residents of Marquette we can look out our windows and see evidence of glaciers because of all of our rolling hills. Rolling landforms are a typifying aspect of a moraine. The great lakes have certainly influenced Michigan s unique shape and distinctive mitten shape, however those lakes aren t the only sources of water that contribute. There are over 36,000 miles of rivers and streams throughout the state of Michigan that have also helped shape the land we enjoy today. Rivers help shape landscapes through erosion and the transportation and deposition of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mr. Darcy progressively gained feelings for her despite of her hatred of him, while Elizabeth began to uncover the real personality and good heartedness of Mr. Darcy. She did remember his boasting one day, at Netherfield, of the implacability of his resentments, of his having an unforgiving temper. His disposition must be dreadful (101). After hearing Mr. Wickham s lies, Elizabeth said I had not thought Mr. Darcy so bad as this though I have never liked him. I had not thought so very ill of him (100). Awhile later, Elizabeth along with her aunt and uncle, mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, decided to tour the home of Mr. Darcy, Pemberley. Her vision of Mr. Darcy soon changes after this visit. Through the discussion between Mr. Darcy s housekeeper, Mrs. Reynolds, Elizabeth learns of Mr. Wickham s true nature. She explains He has turned out very wild (303). Mrs. Reynolds goes on and compliments Mr. Darcy s looks, kind heartedness, and generosity. Elizabeth had not seen this side of Mr. Darcy until he surprised them at Pemberley. Elizabeth thought to herself about his behaviour, so strikingly altered what could it mean? That he should even speak to her was amazing! but to speak with such civility, to inquire after her family! The massive increase in response time is threatening the safety of the residents of New York City, and while the government is introducing new plans to help alleviate the problem, results have been largely unsatisfactory so far. Expansion Of Top Level Domain IST 618 Information Policy Debate Notes Expansion of Top Level Domain AGAINST THE MOTION Aman Shrimal Expansion of domain name for the benefit of users and companies as proposed by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has many major flaws. According to Association of National Advertisers: ICANN s proposed program for increasing competition, promoting, innovation, addressing an alleged shortage of Internet addresses and helping differentiate products and services is deeply flawed. (Association of National Advisers , 2011). The justification to expand the domain name, that new gTLDs would facilitate customer search, promotes consumer welfare, even though the registration cost for a new domain is excessively high and would harm the brand name is flawed. The expansion of domain name will open internet for criminal activity where felons can cyber squat in the name of trusted brands. Objections raised by stakeholders had not been addressed adequately and the decision is mostly influenced by the parties getting directly benefits from this program and not those going to get affected. Since beginning ICANN is proposing introduction of new gTLDs without completing the comprehensive economic study of the domain name registration market and, without having a completely developed understanding of the economic realities of the domain marketplace. Thus, various communities are raising concerns for introduction of new gTLDs. (Association of National ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Freedom to the Choice of Abortion We all live our lives as we please all in accordance to the law, but when it comes to abortion people start to judge and try to regulate how others live and interfere in their personal choices. We live in a country based on freedoms, and women have and should continue to have the freedom to the choice of an abortion. A woman s right to choose abortion is a fundamental right recognized by the US Supreme Court. The courts also have a category of classes called the near suspect classes, which include gender. Gender deserves protection from possible discrimination at the hands of the majority. Women constitute a majority of American s and have been discriminated in the past. The Landmark case Roe v. Wade was decided and remains the law of the land. Making laws against abortions don t stop abortions from happening; they just make it less safe, which in many cases leads to death. Therefore idea of supporting pro life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro choice. No child should be brought into this world where they are not wanted or are not able to live a normal life. Most people who are against abortion will never even become pregnant, so they should not be making laws against it. Pregnancy is a private and personal matter. Outlawing abortion is discriminatory and unfortunately abortions are being transformed from a right to a privilege for most women. To be a good role model it boils down to three basic things Practice what you preach, be kind to people and know your job. People are going to imitate those that they admire, so if you are the manager and you are lax in the guidelines, policy and procedure that you choose to follow, chances are the employees that you are supervising will follow your lead and they will also be lax in their treatment of the workplace policy and procedure. This leads to a very untidy workplace both in person and attitude. Knowing when you can bend the rules a little for a customer who is having a bad day or if you are looking to build a little goodwill between yourself and a client, but the rules are there for a reason and must never be broken. She defines the PIC as biased for criminalizing communities of color and used to make profit for corporations from the prisoner s suffering.
