Ground Sloths Research Paper
Ground sloths are a diverse group of extinct sloths, in the mammalian superorder Xenarthra. The term
ground sloth is used as a reference for all extinct sloths because of the large size of the earliest forms
discovered, as opposed to the extant tree sloths. However, this is a historical convention and should
not imply that all extinct sloths were strictly terrestrial in nature.[1] Their most recent survivors lived
in the Antilles, where it has been proposed they may have survived until 1550 BCE;[2] however,
radiocarbon dating suggests an age of between 2819 and 2660 BCE for the last known occurrence of
Megalocnus in Cuba.[3] Ground sloths had been extinct on the mainland of North and South America
for 10,000 years or more.[4] Their later

Computer Simulations Used as Technology-Based Assessments...
Today we live in an increasingly electronic, virtual world. Educators and their students depend upon
this world to conduct research, simulate reality, and demonstrate their achievement. Our students
never knew their environment not to have the Internet and video games. Thus, they expect their
educational experience to included these as well. Student expectations can be seized upon to engage
them in formal education. Driver Education has long recognized and seized upon this opportunity. The
very nature of the driving task necessitates structured learning and assessment experiences beyond the
traditional classroom, such as simulations. These experiences must provide opportunity for practice
and assessment without risk, a virtual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results could then be instantly observed from the instructor console, via the use of a rotary
telephone dial, and tallied by the system enabling the instructor to assess student knowledge and tailor
instruction. Today the instructors at Chambersburg are using digital photography and presentation
software to assess students continually in the classroom. Effective assessment is accepted universally
as being associated with effective instruction. The need for technology based assessment in the
classroom existed then and exists now. Risk encountered during the real driving is experience is
lessened for the community, the instructors, and the students. Thus, the simulation technology used in
the Driver Education program is necessary.
Computer enabled simulation tools allow amazing representations of the driving experience. Modern
gaming systems like the PlayStation three and X box allow users to see, hear, and feel the driving
experience to an extreme degree. Most students are aware of these simulations if not directly
experienced with them. Elizabeth Simpson and Frances A. Clem state 92 percent of children ages 2 17
play video and computer games (Simpson and Clem 2008). These students then come to the school
setting with expectations of what a simulation should be. They believe it should match or exceed their
gaming console experience. Is this

The Role Of Competition Law And Its Effects On The Local...
My interest in this paper is to consider a complex network prospective; the application of Competition
Law, and more specifically related to its effects on monopolistic competition, and its effects on the
local market and South African economy as a whole.
South Africa (SA) was distant from many other major markets and production centers. This made it
complex for international trade to compensate for these conditions, even though trade has expanded
since 1994, mainly with the European (EU) and the United States (US). Tariff levels have declined on
average, but anti dumping duties protect key industries such as steel, where the state has long had an
interest and an exclusive export agent can prevent arbitrage between export and local markets. SA s
history of import substitution and the attendant habits of business practice and government policy
favored local insiders thus challenging other market entrants. This encouraged the new SA
government to review the SA competition law regime in the White Paper on Reconstruction and
Development in 1994. The need for a new competition policy in SA was because of excessive
economic concentration and ownership, collusive practices by enterprises and the abuse of economic
power by firms in dominant positions. A need for further transition emanated from the effects of
globalization and trade liberalization and the need to redress past inequality and non participation in
the national economy. Thus fundamental principle of competition policy

Essay on A Study of Perspectives
A Study of Perspectives
Livingston s documentary Paris is Burning inspired an awareness of being that I had not previously
experienced. The film urges the spectator to reevaluate not only one s breadth of knowledge of the
black gay culture in the 80 s, but also the perspectives from which one views the film. Personally
speaking, the easiest evaluation of the latter topic would be the perspective of a privileged white
straight female born into a sheltered and socially traditional household. This background would thus
color my reaction to the film: one of intense sadness for the featured interviewees who yearned for an
existence which was mostly unobtainable except in the case of extreme sacrifice and typically led to
social ostracizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This new found perspective, achieved during class discussions and readings, was the finale of the
topic for me until I checked my mailbox after class the following day.
In my mailbox was an honor code abstract detailing a case brought before the council in previous
months. My first thought when carrying the abstract home with me was curiosity at what felt and
looked to be a massive case summery of around 30 pages. I settled down to read it. The case abstract
dealt with an occurrence two semesters ago during a Halloween dance on Bryn Mawr s campus. Two
Haverford male students attended the Hallween party at Rhoads dressed as two specific female Black
popstars. They had painted themselves brown and attached prosthetic breasts and buttocks to their
bodies. (The Muppets abstract, pg. 1) The case abstract is incredibly detailed in documenting all
parties statements and reactions.
After the Halloween party where they wore their costumes the entire night the two males felt
necessary to write an explanation to the community after hearing some rumblings about their costume
from friends and strangers alike. They explained that they had no intention on offending anyone in the
community, but had simply chosen the costumes because of its ridiculous nature. The abstract
explains, [Bert said] they saw white plastic breasts and considered dressing as topless women. Then
they saw the black breasts and butts and decided

Strategic Leadership Plans of Organizations
1. The Blake Mouton leadership grid uses the axes of concern of people and concern for production to
describe five different leadership styles auditory compliance, middle of the road, impoverished, team
management and country club. The National Council on Aging can be described by the Blake Mouton
model as team management. The organization s vision makes clear that t is a people oriented
organization. Trust and respect are important, and work is done by people who share in the common
vision and are willing to work hard towards it.
2. Hersey and Blanchard argue that the maturity of followers is task specific. They focus their model
on two types of maturity job maturity and psychological maturity. The works at the NCOA tend to be
experienced people with many years on the job, and also having worked in other organizations for
long tenures as well. This gives them a high level of job maturity and psychological maturity as well.
In an organization that is characterized by high maturity of followers and a high relationship
orientation, the management style is usually supporting, which is a fairly accurate description of the
NCOA. New workers tend to receive more coaching, but the experienced workers seldom require
more than support for their tasks.
3. The American Association for Retired People fits into the Blake Mouton leadership grid is middle
of the road management. There is equal emphasis on production as people at AARP. Part of this is due
to the organization s size and

Separation of Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll B, and Beta...
Abstract
Pigments extracted from different greens have different polarities and may be different colors. Mixed
pigments can be separated using chromatography paper. Chromatography paper is able to separate
mixed pigments due to their polarity and solubility. Pigments of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and beta
carotene will be separated on chromatography paper because each has its own polarity and solubility,
which results in different distance traveled up the paper. Beta carotene is non polar so it travels the
highest distance, followed by chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll b is the most polar; therefore, it travels the
shortest distance. The separated pigments on the chromatography paper can be eluted in acetone and

The Commanalities of Plan and Form in Thomas Herzog s...
The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, is Thomas Herzog s own home; one can declare
that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for the site itself, is
referred to as his Wohnhaus in Regensberg (1979), with its steep, ground sweeping pitched roof, is

Throughout this essay I will analyse Thomas Herzog s House at Regensburg explaining the
commonalities of plan and form, also looking at different themes and principles behind different
aspects of the house. Also looking at how the houses are syncing in with the environment, in
comparison to two other houses during the twentieth century.
The house ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herzog s first low energy house, is the vice versa of having the characteristics of traditional
culture/customs or being constructed in a plain and simple fashion. Thus creating a new invention, a
design made from logic owing itself to science rather than to emotion. The house at Regensburg has
the pure prism form and rational plan that make it seem machine like , (Davies, C. 2006) whilst using
wood that is seen as non typical Modernist material. The appearance loses the traditional house design
and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle,
reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted
(groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground.
Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of the
triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to heat
the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving features into
the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house like this uses the
principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates D.I.Y aesthetics.
Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times, but this was always an
addition to the conventional house . Herzog merged the two together by creating a two storey house

Summary Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
A society s myths and legends are much more than stories. They represent the values, fears, hopes, and
rules at the core of that culture. Due to the significance and complexity of morality and societal
expectations, these lessons of life are taught to children in the form of symbolic stories much like
fairytales. In his book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis manages to encompass the
incredibly complex concepts of the Christian ideology, such as sin and redemption into a fairytale like
story. Using symbols and metaphor, Lewis creates the fantastic world of Narnia with just enough
parallels that his young audience is able to appreciate the Atonement and nature of Christ in a format
they understand.
In the Mormon church, the Spirit is often described as a burning in one s bosom (D C 9:8). Burning
does not sound very pleasant, it is reminiscent of the symptoms of a heart attack. Lewis compares
these feelings of the Spirit to something from a child s experience. When the Pevensies hear about
Aslan, they felt as if it had come from a dream with enormous meaning, simultaneously terrifying and
too lovely to put into words...so beautiful that you remember it all your life (68). Good and bad
dreams are something that kids have experience with. Because Edmund was poisoned by sin, the
mention of Aslan gave him a sensation of mysterious horror rather than a good feeling (68). This
explains the feelings of guilt one feels after doing something wrong, especially in

X-SCID Gene Therapy Essay
The first X SCID gene therapy trial used a moloney murine viral vector with the c transgene in two
patients with X SCID. One patient had a missense mutation in IL2RG which resulted in a receptor in
the cellular membrane but without a cytoplasmic tail and therefore not functional. The other patient
had a frameshift IL2RG mutation which deleted exon 6 and resulted in a truncated receptor that was
not expressed on the membrane. Their CD34+ T cells were removed and transfected for three days, at
which point they were infused back in to the patient. Around 40% of the infused cells contained the
transgene. 15 days after transfusion, circulating T cells containing the transgene were able to be
detected circulating in both patients by PCR. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their T cell levels were in line with normal controls and it appeared that almost 100% of the
circulating T and NK cells had taken up the transgene. Their production of new T cells was normal
and they had levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells consistent with levels of age matched controls,
although most were naïve (Figure 3). These four patients contained normal levels of antibodies against
diseases they were vaccinated for including poliovirus, tetanus, diphtheria, and influenza. The fifth
patient had no response to the gene therapy treatment. After 30 months, he had no detectable T cells in
the blood and required an emergency HSCT. Overall, most patients that underwent gene therapy
showed a functional immune system, improved clinical outcome, and the development of a thymus at
30 months after transfusion. The four successful patients saw appearance and number of T cells faster
and higher than patients who had received HSCT. Considering that most of the T and NK cells
contained the transgene, the researchers concluded that the expression of the c chain confers a
survival and growth advantage [12].
At ten years after the initiation of the moloney murine virus study, a total of ten patients had been
enrolled. All patients had normal or very slightly low T cell counts after a few months, which
remained at ten years. CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T cell levels were relatively normal in all patients and
appeared to be dependent on the number of cells

The Cosby Show Essay
Critics reaction to the The Cosby Show
The Cosby Show created a controversial impression. The auditory liked this show; its positive attitude
was supported by TV ratings. The series had a successful premier and kept high ratings during next
seasons. The Cosby Show achieved a 33.7 rating for 1985 86 and then 34.9 for 1986 87 (Staiger 144).
Experts also gave mostly positive comments; they liked the humor, character s acting, mise en scenes
and the overall impression of episodes. Its overall style of humor and resolution of narrative problems
matched Middle America s taste standards and contemporary views about responsible parenting
(Staiger 159). Critics liked the show as it created deepness in its shallowness . The Cosby Show did

Show s features made it appreciable for different types of the auditory. It could be treated like a
compromise, according to critics. Caucasian Americans liked the show as it represented many
common uniracial problems for the middle class; they wanted to see episodes despite the fact most
characters were representatives of a different race. African Americans were led by similar motives; the
show did not demonstrate specific racial problems, but there still were enough moments, where people
could recognize own situations and experiences. However, this omnitude became both the advantage
and disadvantage of the show in critics eyes. Some of them mentioned that the creation of the less
dangerous, stereotypical image of black people was one of the program s purposes. And it could be too
good in this task: the trouble of The Cosby Show was that it didn t show the day to day racism that
existed in the streets of New York City for the Huxtable children (Staiger 145). Experts also criticized
the abundance of the indoor scenes, but it is the common problem for sitcoms. It is possible to
conclude critics had a positive attitude towards The Cosby Show, as it reflected issues of parenting,
which were common for all races, but slightly criticized it for the excessive whitewash of the African

Hamlet and His Sanity As Determined in a Court of Law
In the court of law, William Shakespeare s Hamlet will be used as a transcript to determine the fate of
Prince Hamlet as he is responsible for the death of Polonius. With the mask of insanity, Hamlet is
conscious of his actions as he murders Polonius through his malicious intent upon King Claudius.
Also, with Hamlet being in an intense state of emotion during his confrontation of Queen Gertrude, he
intentionally murders Polonius upon adequate provocation which results to voluntary manslaughter.
However, by pursuing King Claudius, Hamlet endangers himself and those close to him as he
relentlessly involves others through his dangerous pursuit. From a legal context, Hamlet is declared

Hamlet understands the concept of what is morally right and wrong as he mourns the death of his
father due to the fact that his father was a person. The lack of appreciate towards a person is morally
wrong because a person is a human being, and not an object.
In the acceptance stage of grief, Hamlet experiences acceptance of his father s death when he
determines the cause of death was murder. To obtain acceptance, according to Kübler Ross and
Kessler, the person must accept the realization of the other person s death and recognize their reality
without them (25). At this stage of acceptance, Hamlet acknowledges his father s death as he accepts
the reality of Claudius being king because Hamlet completely believes that Claudius murdered King
Hamlet in order to become king. Also, with acceptance of his father s death, Hamlet alters his emotion
from depression to vengeance towards King Claudius which results in Hamlet moving from the stage
of depression to the stage of acceptance.
In the anger stage of grief, Hamlet releases his anger during the confrontation with Queen Gertrude.
How anger arises, according to Kübler Ross and Kessler, is only when the person feels safe enough to
express the emotion (11). In this situation, Hamlet did feel secure as he assumed there was not a single
person in the room except for himself and Queen Gertrude. By releasing his anger, Hamlet begins the

Critical Analysis Of The Donner Party
In May of 1846, settlers George Donner and James Reed led an assembly of nearly 90 people on a
journey from Springfield, Illinois to the newly discovered West. The West was full of new hope a
chance of starting anew and the possibility of buying untouched land were promising to those who
yearned for more. The leaders, George Donner and James Reed, followed a book titled, The Emigrants
Guide to Oregon and California written by Lansford Hastings, which ensured a shortcut to their
promising, new destination. Unfortunately, it was Hastings book that ultimately led many in the group
to their untimely demise as the party got stuck in the Sierra Nevada mountains during the harsh winter.
The group ignored warnings from an old friend, James Clyman, and even refuted the whispers heard
prior to their departure of the anguish to come if they followed Hasting s new route. It was a
pilgrimage that created and left a trail of misery, betrayal, and death. Presently, one can compare
different versions of this harrowing American tale as technology has made different genres available
within readers reach. The original story was told firsthand by Eliza Donner, in her book titled, The
Expedition of The Donner Party and its Tragic Fate. Another valuable version utilizes modern
technology in the video documentary, The Donner Party. Although there are significant differences
between the two genres, both show the reader that even though different paths are taken to tell this

drug that treats schizophrenia; which are tablets that control psychotic symptoms such as delusions,
hallucinations, or other symptoms that the patient feels when having this disorder. Using this drug
there are also side effects such as dry mouth, drowsiness, muscle stiffness, and tardive dyskinesia. If a
person has used antipsychotic medication for long periods of time, eventually they might increase
their risk of developing a movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia, briefly talked above which

medication reduces the symptoms of schizophrenia, not take away the cause for it. Along with the
brain, antipsychotic drugs reduce the syndrome of psychosis as well as reducing the symptoms of
bipolar disorder or a manic depression which are alternating periods of mood swings that lead to
depression. The way this medication works is it can either decrease or alter the effect of
neurotransmitters in the brain. Neurotransmitters helps transfer messages throughout the brain and

Compare And Contrast The Hero Journey In The Count Of...
Hero Journey Comparison Contrast Essay A hero is often thought as someone who saves lives and
does admirable acts. This is not always the case as we see in The Count of Monte Cristo, where
Edmond Dantes is wrongly accused of a crime and sent to imprisonment for life. He is stripped of his
freedom and all he owns and rises to the top with only a goal in mind that he keeps dear to his heart.
In The Alchemist, Santiago seeks to find treasure and on his journey, he finds his true love. This is

Henry Viii Influence
Literature has become the most important factor in the construction of the English monarchy. It has
become the way in which people communicate and share their ideas throughout the world. English
literature is the essential piece in ruling a country and determining the future for that country. In
England, English literature has evolved through a number of versions due to the changes made to the
policies and laws, religion, culture, and the monarchy. Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 by
Elizabeth of York and Henry VII at Greenwich Palace (BBC News). In his early age, he was very
interested in the arts and enjoyed reading literature. In 1509, Henry VIII succeeded his father Henry
VII (1457 1509), but had originally become heir to the throne after his older brother, Prince Arthur,
died in 1502 (Henry VIII (r.1509 1547)). He reigned during the House of Tudor monarchy when he
was only eighteen years old until he died in 1547, having Edward VI succeed him. Throughout his
years of reign, he married six women including: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour,
Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. In 1527, Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon,
since she could no longer conceive children, and became infatuated with Anne Boleyn (Henry s
Divorce). This decision led to the English Protestant Reformation which were a series of events...[in]

Investigating The Greenhouse Effect On The Environment
Purpose: To investigate the greenhouse effect.
Hypothesis: If the enclosed area heats up and doesn t allow air to escape, then the temperature inside
the greenhouse should be somewhat higher than the temperature outside the greenhouse.
Prediction: I predict that the temperature inside the greenhouse will rise from the heat of the suns rays.
Materials: 2 thermometers 3 microscopic slides sticky tape 2 triangular pieces of cardboard 1 block of
wood time keeping device
Procedure:
1) Copy the results table into your workbook.
2) Create a hole in one of the pieces of cardboard, just large enough for the thermometer to pass
through. It needs to be a good seal to stop air from escaping.
3) Construct a triangular model using the 3 microscopic slides and sticky tape.
4) Place the greenhouse outside in a sunny position.
5) Place the second thermometer on the block of wood next to the greenhouse.
6) Record the temperature of the 2 theremometers at the beginning of the experiment.
7) Record the temperatures every 2 minutes for 14 minutes.

**Table** Variables:
The independent variable used in this experiment was the greenhouse and the air. The air temperature
was changed by building a greenhouse that would trap the air inside (making it hotter or cooler). The

It is a horrifying idea to think that so many people were accused and locked up in prison. They were
average people who had families, friends, and jobs, and were taken away from them and they don t

Eleven years was taken from him because of a poor system that relied on the human brain s capability

makes it seem so real, that it had to be what the person thought they saw. Improvements are slowly

Medical Marijuana Should be Legalized Essay
Marijuana has been in the news lately since two states, Colorado and Washington, have voted to
legalize recreational marijuana. Currently they are the only two states to legalize recreational
marijuana. Twenty states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana. Iowa, at this
time, has decided not to legalize medical marijuana in spite of many Iowa citizens advocating for the
legalization of the drug. Iowa is taking a cautious approach to medical marijuana. Medical marijuana
has been proven to help with seizures, pain management, nausea and improve the quality of life of
people with certain medical issues. Regulation of medical marijuana will keep the drug safe by
overseeing the growing and sale of the drug and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One Denver citizen put it quite clearly when he stated, The only thing more addictive than illegal
drugs is tax revenue. We have seen this work with gambling which used to be illegal and now is a
wonderful source of revenue for states. Governor Hickenlooper of Colorado has urged other states not
to rush into legalizing marijuana just for the tax revenue, but to wait and see how Colorado handles
any problems that may arise.
The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 criminalized marijuana by restricting possession of the drug to
individuals who paid an excise tax for certain approved medical and industrial uses. Penalty for
nonpayment of this tax was up to $2000 and/or jail time up to five years. (Kriho) Three men, William
Randolf Hearst, Andrew Mellon and Harry Anslinger were the men behind the development of The
Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. The Act was created to reduce the size of the hemp industry. Anslinger
was the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and had made his career enforcing alcohol
prohibition. Prohibition ended in 1933 and Anslinger felt he needed a new illegal substance for job
security. Hearst owned a newspaper empire. Hemp had become a cheap substitute for paper pulp
which is used in the newspaper industry. Hearst felt hemp was a threat to his extensive timber holding
from which paper pulp was also made. Hearst started a scare campaign to convince the public that

The Positive Effects Of Stress On College Students
Stress plays a big part on the daily life of every individual. Stress is a natural by product of adapting
and then regaining internal homeostasis. Every individual will react differently to stressful situations.
There are positive ways that one can deal with stress. These positive ways are called coping, which is
the multitude of strategies one can use in response to a stressor. There are three different coping
strategies, those of which include problem focused strategies, emotion focused strategies, and avoidant
coping strategies, which can help oneself cope with the stress of everyday life. Stress indicates that
change requires an effort to adapt and then an effort to gain stability (Kato, 2017). In the article
written by Flynn and Chow, they conduct research on a rather large group of college students to see if
college really is the most stressful part of life (Hales, 2009). According to Kaisers (1974) terminology
the study conducted indicates that the data set is marvelous for factor analysis.
Stress on College Students Stress plays a huge role on everybody in everyday life. Being a college
student, I did my research article based on students in college and how stressful it is.
Definition of Stress and Coping Stress, as defined by Kato, is the general term describing the
psychological and bodily response to a stimulus that alters one s state of equilibrium. Coping, also
defined by Kato, is the multitude of strategies one can use in response to a stressor. Emotion focused
strategies change a person s emotional response to the stressor (Kato 2017) Problem focused strategies
focus on taking the stressor head on (Kato, 2017). Avoidant coping involves simply avoiding the
stressor (Kato, 2017).
Research on Stress and Coping In an article written by Deborah M. Flynn, she goes into depth about
self efficacy, self worth and stress. This study is important because the time spent in the post
secondary educational system is one of the most stressful periods of life that has been reported (Hales,
2009). As stated in her article, there are clear differences in how some students cope with stress, some
students view stress as a challenge and thrive, whereas others have difficulty coping (Stoliker and

What Are Role Playing Games With Simulated Violence...
Are Role Playing Games With Simulated Violence Perilous Or Diverting?
By Kassie Cordier Playing games is something we all do everyday. It can give us a feeling of
excitement in our daily boring lives. But some games aren t as good for us as you might think. Role
playing games with simulated violence can be perilous for us. Although they seem fine on the outside,
they can be very dangerous for our bodies and our minds. Games can alter our brains to think a certain
way and cause us to become inhumane. This is because they can lead to more serious actions, the
player can get hurt, and it can distract us from more important things.
Firstly, role playing games can distract us from more important things. They can make us lose our

For example, a game might lead a kid to believe that hurting other people is okay because as Raise
Smart Kids explained, they get used to being rewarded when they hurt other players. They believe that
punching, yelling or even killing other people is okay. They show how Kids who play video games are
more likely to have violent thoughts and actions. Making yourself think a certain way will make your
brain adjust to as if you were playing the game and soon the player might not be able to decipher
fantasy from reality. Also, many studies have shown that kids who play a lot of video games (a type of
violent game) are not able to connect with others. Violent games can be leading us to something that
we would never do without them.
In conclusion, video games that are violent can be very perilous to not only kids but anyone who plays
them. They can have short and long term effects on your career and the way you think. Violent games
are bad because they can lead to serious actions, the player can get hurt, and because they can distract
us. Making the choice to play this game is not only affecting you but it can affect the people around
you and how they think of you. So next time you go to play games you should think about the
consequences that come with

The Importance Of Diversity In Education
Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to
overcome an educational barrier you have faced. (350)
My world revolved around Mariner High School, a school that serves a diverse student population
from all over the socioeconomic spectrum. In the beginning, I found myself at the bottom of this
spectrum but I was able to balance my conflict filled life, build my way towards the top of my class,
and engage in many student based organizations. The school which I attended was surrounded by a
struggling community of 70% of students on free and reduced lunch, and were apathetic, resulting in
the educational barriers I faced as a high schooler. I felt confined within the social structure of my
institution and felt limited to the educational opportunities my school provided; there were few STEM
based clubs, AP, and Honor Classes that I could take.
In realization of my limited community, I had the ultimate privilege of obtaining leadership roles in
organizations that I was passionate about, which extended my life outside of Mariner s uninvolved
culture and created a dynamic unparalleled experience within my high school experience. Serving
with a purpose and being involved in organizations that developed the diversity of my individual self
helped me become engulfed in the world. Essentially, I used to only have the perspective of attending
a school with peers who all came from disparate backgrounds, but I ultimately learned more about the

The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury Analysis
Society provides a constant pressure to be a certain cookie cutter definition that only includes a single
shape in the whole box. Stepping out of the desired image is seen as wrong as the balance and
harmony society tries to maintain is unstable. In The Pedestrian written by Ray Bradbury emphasizes
the idea of a collective group pushing a single individual into conforming to their expectations as the
main character Leonard Mead demonstrates this struggle. Leonard Mead tries to conform to society
through the symbolic change of shoes. Moreover, by not fulfilling society s complete regulations
Leonard is soon isolated and pushed away from the community which limited Leonards mental self as
he was alway alone. The Pedestrian reflects on the significant principle to pursue your goals and
desires as it influences on an individual s eccentricity that makes people diverse even if it does not
follow society s regulations. Furthermore, Mr. Leonard Mead struggles with being different and his
personal desires are viewed as abnormal since society fears the unknown consequently abusing the
individual for being different. In addition, methods that further enhances the barrier Ray Bradbury set
between Leonard Mead versus the rest of society is the motif of light versus dark and Ray Bradbury s
short story illustrates conflicts between pursuing a personal desire and choosing to conform influences
a person s individuality as a result of society s regulations.

How To Join The Disability Rights Movement
Join The Disability Rights Movement Unbelievably, there are some disabled people who actually do
not have basic human rights. There is a movement out there that is attempting to change that. That
movement is the disability rights movement. The disability rights movement hopes to acquire equal
rights and equal opportunities for people not given those basic human rights. In specific they want
accessibility and safety, equal opportunity in independent living, employment, education, housing, and
freedom from neglect and abuse. Everyone should show some more respect to disabled people by
joining the disability rights movement. The disabled people are exactly like everyone else. About 50
million people that have a disability lead their own independent lives. They define themselves by their
traits, not their disability and ever since the mid 1900s, they have been trying to get people to
recognise that their disability only affects how they look at things, and is not a definition ( A Brief ).
Most people look at other people with disabilities on a medical scale. The medical model attempts to
normalize a person s conditions and also tends to see people as flawed and incapable (Milne). In
reality, disabled people are just like the rest of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Ground Sloths Research Paper Ground sloths are a diverse group of extinct sloths, in the mammalian superorder Xenarthra. The term ground sloth is used as a reference for all extinct sloths because of the large size of the earliest forms discovered, as opposed to the extant tree sloths. However, this is a historical convention and should not imply that all extinct sloths were strictly terrestrial in nature.[1] Their most recent survivors lived in the Antilles, where it has been proposed they may have survived until 1550 BCE;[2] however, radiocarbon dating suggests an age of between 2819 and 2660 BCE for the last known occurrence of Megalocnus in Cuba.[3] Ground sloths had been extinct on the mainland of North and South America for 10,000 years or more.[4] Their later ... • 3. Computer Simulations Used as Technology-Based Assessments... Today we live in an increasingly electronic, virtual world. Educators and their students depend upon this world to conduct research, simulate reality, and demonstrate their achievement. Our students never knew their environment not to have the Internet and video games. Thus, they expect their educational experience to included these as well. Student expectations can be seized upon to engage them in formal education. Driver Education has long recognized and seized upon this opportunity. The very nature of the driving task necessitates structured learning and assessment experiences beyond the traditional classroom, such as simulations. These experiences must provide opportunity for practice and assessment without risk, a virtual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results could then be instantly observed from the instructor console, via the use of a rotary telephone dial, and tallied by the system enabling the instructor to assess student knowledge and tailor instruction. Today the instructors at Chambersburg are using digital photography and presentation software to assess students continually in the classroom. Effective assessment is accepted universally as being associated with effective instruction. The need for technology based assessment in the classroom existed then and exists now. Risk encountered during the real driving is experience is lessened for the community, the instructors, and the students. Thus, the simulation technology used in the Driver Education program is necessary. Computer enabled simulation tools allow amazing representations of the driving experience. Modern gaming systems like the PlayStation three and X box allow users to see, hear, and feel the driving experience to an extreme degree. Most students are aware of these simulations if not directly experienced with them. Elizabeth Simpson and Frances A. Clem state 92 percent of children ages 2 17 play video and computer games (Simpson and Clem 2008). These students then come to the school setting with expectations of what a simulation should be. They believe it should match or exceed their gaming console experience. Is this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of Competition Law And Its Effects On The Local... My interest in this paper is to consider a complex network prospective; the application of Competition Law, and more specifically related to its effects on monopolistic competition, and its effects on the local market and South African economy as a whole. South Africa (SA) was distant from many other major markets and production centers. This made it complex for international trade to compensate for these conditions, even though trade has expanded since 1994, mainly with the European (EU) and the United States (US). Tariff levels have declined on average, but anti dumping duties protect key industries such as steel, where the state has long had an interest and an exclusive export agent can prevent arbitrage between export and local markets. SA s history of import substitution and the attendant habits of business practice and government policy favored local insiders thus challenging other market entrants. This encouraged the new SA government to review the SA competition law regime in the White Paper on Reconstruction and Development in 1994. The need for a new competition policy in SA was because of excessive economic concentration and ownership, collusive practices by enterprises and the abuse of economic power by firms in dominant positions. A need for further transition emanated from the effects of globalization and trade liberalization and the need to redress past inequality and non participation in the national economy. Thus fundamental principle of competition policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on A Study of Perspectives A Study of Perspectives Livingston s documentary Paris is Burning inspired an awareness of being that I had not previously experienced. The film urges the spectator to reevaluate not only one s breadth of knowledge of the black gay culture in the 80 s, but also the perspectives from which one views the film. Personally speaking, the easiest evaluation of the latter topic would be the perspective of a privileged white straight female born into a sheltered and socially traditional household. This background would thus color my reaction to the film: one of intense sadness for the featured interviewees who yearned for an existence which was mostly unobtainable except in the case of extreme sacrifice and typically led to social ostracizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This new found perspective, achieved during class discussions and readings, was the finale of the topic for me until I checked my mailbox after class the following day. In my mailbox was an honor code abstract detailing a case brought before the council in previous months. My first thought when carrying the abstract home with me was curiosity at what felt and looked to be a massive case summery of around 30 pages. I settled down to read it. The case abstract dealt with an occurrence two semesters ago during a Halloween dance on Bryn Mawr s campus. Two Haverford male students attended the Hallween party at Rhoads dressed as two specific female Black popstars. They had painted themselves brown and attached prosthetic breasts and buttocks to their bodies. (The Muppets abstract, pg. 1) The case abstract is incredibly detailed in documenting all parties statements and reactions. After the Halloween party where they wore their costumes the entire night the two males felt necessary to write an explanation to the community after hearing some rumblings about their costume from friends and strangers alike. They explained that they had no intention on offending anyone in the community, but had simply chosen the costumes because of its ridiculous nature. The abstract explains, [Bert said] they saw white plastic breasts and considered dressing as topless women. Then they saw the black breasts and butts and decided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Strategic Leadership Plans of Organizations 1. The Blake Mouton leadership grid uses the axes of concern of people and concern for production to describe five different leadership styles auditory compliance, middle of the road, impoverished, team management and country club. The National Council on Aging can be described by the Blake Mouton model as team management. The organization s vision makes clear that t is a people oriented organization. Trust and respect are important, and work is done by people who share in the common vision and are willing to work hard towards it. 2. Hersey and Blanchard argue that the maturity of followers is task specific. They focus their model on two types of maturity job maturity and psychological maturity. The works at the NCOA tend to be experienced people with many years on the job, and also having worked in other organizations for long tenures as well. This gives them a high level of job maturity and psychological maturity as well. In an organization that is characterized by high maturity of followers and a high relationship orientation, the management style is usually supporting, which is a fairly accurate description of the NCOA. New workers tend to receive more coaching, but the experienced workers seldom require more than support for their tasks. 3. • 7. Separation of Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll B, and Beta... Abstract Pigments extracted from different greens have different polarities and may be different colors. Mixed pigments can be separated using chromatography paper. Chromatography paper is able to separate mixed pigments due to their polarity and solubility. Pigments of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and beta carotene will be separated on chromatography paper because each has its own polarity and solubility, which results in different distance traveled up the paper. The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, is Thomas Herzog s own home; one can declare that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for the site itself, is referred to as his Wohnhaus in Regensberg (1979), with its steep, ground sweeping pitched roof, is content to get its summer shading from the tree canopy above . Thus creating a new invention, a design made from logic owing itself to science rather than to emotion. The house at Regensburg has the pure prism form and rational plan that make it seem machine like , (Davies, C. 2006) whilst using wood that is seen as non typical Modernist material. The appearance loses the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground. Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates D.I.Y aesthetics. Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times, but this was always an addition to the conventional house . • 9. Summary Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe A society s myths and legends are much more than stories. They represent the values, fears, hopes, and rules at the core of that culture. Due to the significance and complexity of morality and societal expectations, these lessons of life are taught to children in the form of symbolic stories much like fairytales. In his book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis manages to encompass the incredibly complex concepts of the Christian ideology, such as sin and redemption into a fairytale like story. Using symbols and metaphor, Lewis creates the fantastic world of Narnia with just enough parallels that his young audience is able to appreciate the Atonement and nature of Christ in a format they understand. In the Mormon church, the Spirit is often described as a burning in one s bosom (D C 9:8). Burning does not sound very pleasant, it is reminiscent of the symptoms of a heart attack. Lewis compares these feelings of the Spirit to something from a child s experience. When the Pevensies hear about Aslan, they felt as if it had come from a dream with enormous meaning, simultaneously terrifying and too lovely to put into words...so beautiful that you remember it all your life (68). Good and bad dreams are something that kids have experience with. Because Edmund was poisoned by sin, the mention of Aslan gave him a sensation of mysterious horror rather than a good feeling (68). This explains the feelings of guilt one feels after doing something wrong, especially in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One patient had a missense mutation in IL2RG which resulted in a receptor in the cellular membrane but without a cytoplasmic tail and therefore not functional. The other patient had a frameshift IL2RG mutation which deleted exon 6 and resulted in a truncated receptor that was not expressed on the membrane. Their CD34+ T cells were removed and transfected for three days, at which point they were infused back in to the patient. Around 40% of the infused cells contained the transgene. 15 days after transfusion, circulating T cells containing the transgene were able to be detected circulating in both patients by PCR. The ... Their production of new T cells was normal and they had levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells consistent with levels of age matched controls, although most were naïve (Figure 3). These four patients contained normal levels of antibodies against diseases they were vaccinated for including poliovirus, tetanus, diphtheria, and influenza. The fifth patient had no response to the gene therapy treatment. After 30 months, he had no detectable T cells in the blood and required an emergency HSCT. Overall, most patients that underwent gene therapy showed a functional immune system, improved clinical outcome, and the development of a thymus at 30 months after transfusion. The four successful patients saw appearance and number of T cells faster and higher than patients who had received HSCT. Considering that most of the T and NK cells contained the transgene, the researchers concluded that the expression of the c chain confers a survival and growth advantage [12]. At ten years after the initiation of the moloney murine virus study, a total of ten patients had been enrolled. All patients had normal or very slightly low T cell counts after a few months, which remained at ten years. CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T cell levels were relatively normal in all patients and appeared to be dependent on the number of cells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The series had a successful premier and kept high ratings during next seasons. The Cosby Show achieved a 33.7 rating for 1985 86 and then 34.9 for 1986 87 (Staiger 144). Experts also gave mostly positive comments; they liked the humor, character s acting, mise en scenes and the overall impression of episodes. Show s features made it appreciable for different types of the auditory. It could be treated like a compromise, according to critics. Caucasian Americans liked the show as it represented many common uniracial problems for the middle class; they wanted to see episodes despite the fact most characters were representatives of a different race. African Americans were led by similar motives; the show did not demonstrate specific racial problems, but there still were enough moments, where people could recognize own situations and experiences. However, this omnitude became both the advantage and disadvantage of the show in critics eyes. Some of them mentioned that the creation of the less dangerous, stereotypical image of black people was one of the program s purposes. And it could be too good in this task: the trouble of The Cosby Show was that it didn t show the day to day racism that existed in the streets of New York City for the Huxtable children (Staiger 145). Experts also criticized the abundance of the indoor scenes, but it is the common problem for sitcoms. It is possible to conclude critics had a positive attitude towards The Cosby Show, as it reflected issues of parenting, which were common for all races, but slightly criticized it for the excessive whitewash of the African American ... Critical Analysis Of The Donner Party In May of 1846, settlers George Donner and James Reed led an assembly of nearly 90 people on a journey from Springfield, Illinois to the newly discovered West. The West was full of new hope a chance of starting anew and the possibility of buying untouched land were promising to those who yearned for more. The leaders, George Donner and James Reed, followed a book titled, The Emigrants Guide to Oregon and California written by Lansford Hastings, which ensured a shortcut to their promising, new destination. Unfortunately, it was Hastings book that ultimately led many in the group to their untimely demise as the party got stuck in the Sierra Nevada mountains during the harsh winter. The group ignored warnings from an old friend, James Clyman, and even refuted the whispers heard prior to their departure of the anguish to come if they followed Hasting s new route. It was a pilgrimage that created and left a trail of misery, betrayal, and death. A face of a dazed soldier than appears shown at an upward angle this image of the man also seem to come with images memories of the things he witnessed in war. They then showed the soldier practicing his mixed martial arts technique in his underwear with both of his lamps on as he had been in his dark room all day it was kind of a change to see some light. After that scene his room was dark once more toward the end of this scene. In my opinion this was done because he was finally starting to talk and realize the real terror of war and the terror of war isn t happy it s a dark and scary thing. Right before the scene ends they show the soldier continuing his mixed martial arts and he seems to lose it as he punches a mirror and cuts up his hand. They then show him sitting next to his blood covered sheets as he completely breaks down and lets out his emotions and cries. I believe he had reached his breaking point and the drinks he had earlier in the scene had caught up to him and his emotions and the alcohol did not blend well, As seeing his reflection in the mirror seemed to anger him. The scene then ended as it almost left you with some sort of guilt watching him breaking down crying while being covered in his own blood from the wound on his hand from ... • 20. Investigating The Greenhouse Effect On The Environment Purpose: To investigate the greenhouse effect. Hypothesis: If the enclosed area heats up and doesn t allow air to escape, then the temperature inside the greenhouse should be somewhat higher than the temperature outside the greenhouse. Prediction: I predict that the temperature inside the greenhouse will rise from the heat of the suns rays. Materials: 2 thermometers 3 microscopic slides sticky tape 2 triangular pieces of cardboard 1 block of wood time keeping device Procedure: 1) Copy the results table into your workbook. 2) Create a hole in one of the pieces of cardboard, just large enough for the thermometer to pass through. Results: **Table** Variables: The independent variable used in this experiment was the greenhouse and the air. The air temperature was changed by building a greenhouse that would trap the air inside (making it hotter or cooler). The dependant variable was the temperature because that was what we were measuring. Lastly, the controlled variables were time and the thermometers. The experiment was held over a constant ... I have come to the conclusion that, without the breakthrough of DNA extraction technology. Many people would still be convicted of a crime they never committed. One of the biggest pushes for this change in the judicial system, was the Thompson Vs. Cotton case. Ronald Cotton was accused of raping twenty two year old college student, Jennifer Thompson. During a lecture at Ferris State University, Thompson recalled thinking over and over again that once I [survive] and live, I will make sure that I know everything about you [...] to help the police find you . In Eller s book of Cultural Anthropology, he notes that Anthony Wallace says that Revitalization Movements are conscious, deliberate, and organized efforts on the part of some member(s) of a society to create a new better, and more satisfying culture (Eller). It is a horrifying idea to think that so many people were accused and locked up in prison. They were average people who had families, friends, and jobs, and were taken away from them and they don t even know why. Ronald Cotton was only twenty two, when he walked into the police station to clear his name of any misidentification he may have had. What he didn t know was that was the last time he would have freedom. Eleven years was taken from him because of a poor system that relied on the human brain s capability to recall memory. If the human brain cannot instantly recall a memory the odds of having a correct recall drops dramatically. This is because the brain begins to piece faulty items into the memory. This makes it seem so real, that it had to be what the person thought they saw. Improvements are slowly beginning to make their way to the judiciary system. • 25. The Positive Effects Of Stress On College Students Stress plays a big part on the daily life of every individual. Stress is a natural by product of adapting and then regaining internal homeostasis. Every individual will react differently to stressful situations. There are positive ways that one can deal with stress. These positive ways are called coping, which is the multitude of strategies one can use in response to a stressor. There are three different coping strategies, those of which include problem focused strategies, emotion focused strategies, and avoidant coping strategies, which can help oneself cope with the stress of everyday life. Stress indicates that change requires an effort to adapt and then an effort to gain stability (Kato, 2017). In the article written by Flynn and Chow, they conduct research on a rather large group of college students to see if college really is the most stressful part of life (Hales, 2009). According to Kaisers (1974) terminology the study conducted indicates that the data set is marvelous for factor analysis. Stress on College Students Stress plays a huge role on everybody in everyday life. Being a college student, I did my research article based on students in college and how stressful it is. Definition of Stress and Coping Stress, as defined by Kato, is the general term describing the psychological and bodily response to a stimulus that alters one s state of equilibrium. Coping, also defined by Kato, is the multitude of strategies one can use in response to a stressor. Emotion focused strategies change a person s emotional response to the stressor (Kato 2017) Problem focused strategies focus on taking the stressor head on (Kato, 2017). Avoidant coping involves simply avoiding the stressor (Kato, 2017). Research on Stress and Coping In an article written by Deborah M. Flynn, she goes into depth about self efficacy, self worth and stress. This study is important because the time spent in the post secondary educational system is one of the most stressful periods of life that has been reported (Hales, 2009). (350) My world revolved around Mariner High School, a school that serves a diverse student population from all over the socioeconomic spectrum. In the beginning, I found myself at the bottom of this spectrum but I was able to balance my conflict filled life, build my way towards the top of my class, and engage in many student based organizations. The school which I attended was surrounded by a struggling community of 70% of students on free and reduced lunch, and were apathetic, resulting in the educational barriers I faced as a high schooler. I felt confined within the social structure of my institution and felt limited to the educational opportunities my school provided; there were few STEM based clubs, AP, and Honor Classes that I could take. In realization of my limited community, I had the ultimate privilege of obtaining leadership roles in organizations that I was passionate about, which extended my life outside of Mariner s uninvolved culture and created a dynamic unparalleled experience within my high school experience. Stepping out of the desired image is seen as wrong as the balance and harmony society tries to maintain is unstable. In The Pedestrian written by Ray Bradbury emphasizes the idea of a collective group pushing a single individual into conforming to their expectations as the main character Leonard Mead demonstrates this struggle. Leonard Mead tries to conform to society through the symbolic change of shoes. Moreover, by not fulfilling society s complete regulations Leonard is soon isolated and pushed away from the community which limited Leonards mental self as he was alway alone. The Pedestrian reflects on the significant principle to pursue your goals and desires as it influences on an individual s eccentricity that makes people diverse even if it does not follow society s regulations. Furthermore, Mr. Leonard Mead struggles with being different and his personal desires are viewed as abnormal since society fears the unknown consequently abusing the individual for being different. In addition, methods that further enhances the barrier Ray Bradbury set between Leonard Mead versus the rest of society is the motif of light versus dark and Ray Bradbury s short story illustrates conflicts between pursuing a personal desire and choosing to conform influences a person s individuality as a result of society s regulations. There is a movement out there that is attempting to change that. That movement is the disability rights movement. The disability rights movement hopes to acquire equal rights and equal opportunities for people not given those basic human rights. In specific they want accessibility and safety, equal opportunity in independent living, employment, education, housing, and freedom from neglect and abuse. Everyone should show some more respect to disabled people by joining the disability rights movement. The disabled people are exactly like everyone else. About 50 million people that have a disability lead their own independent lives. They define themselves by their traits, not their disability and ever since the mid 1900s, they have been trying to get people to recognise that their disability only affects how they look at things, and is not a definition ( A Brief ).
