When news of the United States involvement in World War II was made known in
1940, Congress imposed a draft for men ages eighteen to thirty seven. This was a
way for them to join the fight against the axis powers. This particular war is noted
as the most brutal war throughout all of history. Out of the men who registered to
draft, many of them were also involved in what would be called the most popular
battle of the Second World War, or the invasion of Normandy. The Invasion of
Normandy, other wise referred to as D Day occurred June 6th 1944 when allied
forces invaded the border of Normandy and pushed the German forces back through
France. Over one hundred thousand American, British, and Canadian forces landed
on several beaches along the region. While the German numbers had already greatly
thinned due to the war in Russia, D Day and the Allies continued the further ruin of
their troops. The victory over the Axis powers was accomplished through the efforts
of all those within the allied powers including Britain and Canada however, the main
focus of this research is the United States involvement in the D Day invasion. As
previously mentioned the Invasion of Normandy had a huge affect on the war itself,

Richard Ligon was from England and moved to Barbados in 1647. There, he lived
amongst slaves, servants, and planters for approximately ten years. He witnessed
many forms of slavery and paid close attention to how the different slave groups were
being treated, in comparison to one another. In his article, he compares the living
conditions of the slaves to the servants. Ligon also discusses what their motives and
methods of resistance to their masters authority are. In his work, it is also evident that
cultural adaptations were made between the European and African inhabitants of

the drum, and how it was only capable of making a single tone. Ligon stumbled
across Macow a couple days after this had happened. He noticed that Macow had a
large piece of timber in which he was trying to duplicate the sound of the Theorbo.
What Ligon points out in this story is the fact that some of the African slaves (or

in to Hester s seduction, the author makes the point that Dimmesdale could have
resisted Hester s attempts of seduction. This would have driven the story and would

biblical reference, he criticizes Hester is portrayed to be an innocent victim by

years National Guard members serve. Since civilians do not hold drills on
weekends or go to mandatory meetings they can hold a job because their schedule
