Harry Potter Betrayal
From Julius Caesar s twenty three stab wounds to Gatsby s disloyal love, the importance of the cruel
act of betrayal in literature has long been discussed. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also
appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty
within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love and bravery in
Rowling s beloved series. In the Harry Potter books betrayals are used to reveal truths about
characters, represent development, and uphold the belief held within all seven of the books: that we
are defined by the choices that we make. Within the Harry Potter series, betrayals are often used to
show sides of characters that we might not have otherwise seen. With the first wizarding war in full
swing Lily and James Potter (in hiding from Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters) are betrayed by
their close friend Peter Pettigrew. As their secret keeper it is his responsibility to protect them to his
own death. Instead he goes against the traits of his house, bravery and chivalry, by betraying them.
Fear trumps Pettigrew s loyalty to the Potters. He does not change his values or replace his friends, he

Peter Pettigrew betrayed his friends and his values in spite of what our assumptions would tell us
about a brave Gryffindor. Because of his decision he spent the rest of his life serving a master who he
feared and hated. Regulus Black betrayed a cause he was raised to believe in and knew was evil, and
died protecting his brother and the others fighting in the resistance. This shows that no upbringing and
no house can define you as good or evil. The final thing that defines a person are the values they are
unable to betray. The betrayals within the Harry Potter Series ask us to reconsider our assumptions
about people, no matter why we may have made

Virtual Worlds Online Essay
With the advancement of science and technology, the virtual world is gradually seeping into media,
marketing, entertainment, and our daily lives. With wide reaching effects on gaming, socializing,
education, and military of other things, virtual worlds have exploded in number and presence over the
past few years. A virtual world is an interactive simulated environment that can be accessed by
multiple users through an online interface ( Virtual World , 2006). The computer in question accesses a
computer simulated world, presenting various stimuli to the user, who in turn can manipulate the
world and experience an electronic presence . Despite the vast differences between virtual worlds and
their applications, a few features are shared; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, they do this in completely different ways. Whereas one is fictional the other is more
realistic, where one is completely competitive the other is completely collegial. Virtual Worlds
Management, a firm that tracks virtual worlds, recently announced that over $425 million has been
invested during the 4th quarter of 2007 in 15 virtual world companies they were studying
(Management, 2007). Apart from making money from investments, the virtual worlds make most of
their money from their services. Although the money making techniques differ from company to
company, they do share common methods. Firstly, there is usually an upfront cost which could be the
box you buy or the activation fee. This can be followed by a monthly or timely payment for using the
service. Still, other cash inflows come in the form of membership fees or the sale of virtual goods.
Furthermore, the usual business activities such as donations, merchandise sales, and advertising help
in making profits. Hence, the business model for such companies vary in number and structure
(Mihaly, 2006). Nevertheless, the general idea includes three main entities, the game producer, the
internet service provider, and the game consumer. The game design, story, programming, support, and
distribution all falls under the game producer. The game consumer sells and buys both the

As a general manager of the Filtration Unit of Applied Research Technologies (ART), Peter Vyas

Header: Leadership Style at Applied Research Technologies, Inc. 2. What leadership style did Vyas
boss, Cynthia Jackson, exhibit as she considered the proposal?
According to the article, Cynthia Jackson is informed about the Filtration Unit of ART because the
project needs her final approval (By Christopher A. Bartlett amp; Heather Beckham, 2012, The
McGraw Hill companies: Project Management Leadership). She recognizes gains and losses of the
project, so she assumes that her first task is only to solve the Unit s problem. The problem of the unit
is that it fails to make a profitable new product to market in recent years. Although she attempts to
protect their team project and supports their efforts, she is wondered if it is time to cut their losses and
organize a strategy for the team. She indicates that more discipline for the unit is required to survive
the whole team.
In my point of view, Jackson s leadership style is mostly participative behavior because she strongly
shows her high supportive behavior to determine what must be done in order to the team gets back its
credibility and prestige; however, she is not sure how the task needs to be performed. For example,
she reacts to the team s Phase 1 proposal with several questions and challenges. In this matter, there
are some assumptions for her in regard with phase 1 proposal. On the other

The Strengths and Weaknesses of the Cosmological Argument...
The Strengths and Weaknesses of the Cosmological Argument for the Existence of God
The cosmological argument seeks to prove the existence of God by looking at the universe. It is an A
posteriori proof based on experience and the observation of the world not logic so the outcome is
probable or possible not definite. The argument is in three forms; motion, causation and being. These
are also the first three ways in the five ways presented by Aquinas through which he believed the
existence of God could be shown. Aquinas regarded Aristotle as the principal philosopher so many of
these concepts originate in the thinking of Aristotle.
One example of the cosmological argument is the argument of ... Show more content on

Therefore, it is more believable that the universe had a beginning and a personal creator.
The third of Aquinas ways is the argument of contingency. The world consists of contingent items
items that have a property are items referred to as being. These items are generated and perish; they
have a beginning and an end. There must have once been a time when nothing existed. But then how
did these items come into being? There must be something or someone able to bring other items into
being without itself being brought into being. This necessary being is God.
These arguments are strong ones for the existence of God, built upon clear and apparently true
observations of the world around us. However, there are many criticisms. Hume argued that both
Thomas Aquinas and William Lane Craig contradict themselves by firstly denying the possibility of
the infinite, but then claiming that there must have been an infinite being. How can this be so?
Supporters of the argument could use the idea that God is unique and outside the laws of nature. But
even so, this point weakens the argument as there is no proof of the attributes of God.
Many may ask these questions: Why does the universe have to be caused? Why cannot it always have
been there? The human mind seems incapable of comprehending the idea of infinity, yet we accept the
idea of an immortal being. A

Water Is A Important Component Of Life
1) Water is a very important component of life, our bodies are mostly comprised of water and water
covers over 70 percent of the earth s surface. Water is important for the sustainment of life, every
organisms depends on some type of water source. Plants, animals, and insects can not survive absent
of water wether it is a couple of days or a couple of months. Water is a special element of life because
of its chemical bonds, the chemical formula for water is H2O, which means that water contains two
hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. These atoms are held together by hydrogen bonds, the
hydrogen bonds. The strong cohesive bond of the atoms in water are important, this makes water
molecules much stronger than many other liquids. Water also ... Show more content on

It has been mandated that water be boiled for at least an hour before using it as potable water. Another
type of water containment that is monitored by the Environmental Division of Ft. Stewart are
pesticides and fertilizers. Pesticides are commonly used in and around house, the problem is that
pesticides contain chlordane lindane, and DDT. Ingestion of pesticides is especially dangerous because
the body can not detoxify many of the chemicals. Essentially the hazardous chemical will accumulate
in the body causing a variety of acute illnesses, because pesticides chemicals can accumulate in the

intentionally removed water from a group of animals and only gave out a rationed portion, that could
be considered animal abuse or neglect. It is not acceptable to allow people to use contaminated water,
no matter where in the world clean water is necessary. On the other hand, I have been to impoverished

Dr. Seuss and How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Theodor Seuss Geisel was a cartoonist, poet, and American writer. He was most widely known for his
children s books written and illustrated as Dr. Seuss. The short film How the Grinch stole Christmas ,
came out in the year 1966. It was made from the original story book that published in 1956 by Dr.
Seuss , (Hutchinson). Grinch, which is the main character of the story. He is labeled as a cruel
scoundrel, who lives a lonely life in his cave north of the village, with no one to mingle with, except
his dog Max. Max the Grinch s dog definitely plays along to his master s shameful tactics. The dog
follows the Grinch around, never letting the viewer s know whether or not he is fully on board with
the Grinch s plans, though we suspect he is not given his long, glum face. Cindy Lou Who only
appears once in the story, who is just a little girl that the Grinch ran into while he was on his mission
to destroy Christmas. Cindy Lou who serves as a trigger to the Grinch s change of heart. Then there s
the rest of the Grinch s enemies, the Whos, who seem to have no idea that their unusual neighbor to
the north is plotting to extinguish their spirits.
First, the story How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss is one of the classic children s stories of
all time. It is about a grouchy hermit, the Grinch, who hated Christmas, and all the Christmas
celebrations, who tried to stop Christmas from coming. He tried to do this by stealing all of Christmas

Distribution Channel Of Tata Motors
2.3 Distribution
Distribution Channels
The distribution channel environment for automobiles in India is different from that of most advanced
countries. These differences exist in number of dealers, size and type of dealers, functions of dealer,
manufacturer dealer relationship, car supermarkets, vertical integration, bookings, financing, number
of cars sold per dealer, margins, and market environment. Because customer has wide choice, most car
dealers would have to adjust to the as per the need of the customer. As far as Tata Motors is concerned
and in the current automobile marketing system, the dealer orders cars in advance in a `push system
driven by the Tata Motor s agendas, and there after the dealer has to bend the customer s requirements

Tata Motors first ship the products to their depot from where it is taken to a local distributor, who then
supplies to the retailers in that region, and finally sell it to the end customer. In some cases, where the
Tata Motors does not operate its own depots, it employs a carrying and forwarding agent (C F), who
then supplies to the local distributor. The roles of the above mentioned players in the distribution
channel are extremely important because most of the retail stores could stock only 5 10 units of a
given stock and often stock competing brands of Tata Motors together in a small space. As a result, it
is the distributors and sales agents, who have to convince the retailer on stocking their products as
well as making sure that their items are sold in a timely fashion at the retail stores. A local distributor
may have 5% to 10% margin, while a C F agent may have 2% to 4%. The final price has to be paid by

Real People, Real Cases on Television
Judge Judy has been on air for 18 years now and recently signed a contract extending her show until at
least 2017; The People s Court trails behind having several judges preside on the bench. The first
judge was Judge Wapner (most iconic in the day) with even Judge Judy s husband on the bench (for a
very short time)! The latest presiding judge is Marilyn Milian. They are loved by many, but those
unfortunate enough to be on the guilty side of a case seeing the wrath of a judge might not agree.
Every day millions of Americans and countless people around the world tune in to The People s Court
or Judge Judy along with more recent non traditional courts, such as Paternity Court and Divorce
Court. While there are many reasons they are so popular, an important question to ask is what keeps
drawing people back every day to their televisions to watch these shows?
Viewers unfamiliar with the genre might think that they are all the same; however, the personalities
and various style of judging is what makes each stand out from the other. Judge Judy is known for her
no non sense style of rulings, while Judge Marilyn Milian (The People s Court) is less abrasive yet
still assertive in the eyes of the law. We love seeing Judge Judy losing her temper while embarrassing
the defendant or plaintiff who is in the wrong, and making the guilty parties take responsibility for
their actions and (hopefully learn to) make the right choices in the future. Other viewers enjoy Judge

better than other Americans, that the defeat of Hitler and Mussolini would have an impact that reached
far beyond the battlefields of Europe...blacks pursued a Double V strategy: victory at home as well as

Holmes was able to live off campus, but due to school policy, Hunter was not; consequently, the

Peta Animal Rights
Although we have, in theory, abolished human slavery, recognized women s rights, and stopped child
labor, we continue to enslave other species who, if we simply pay attention, show quite clearly that
they experience parental love, pain, and the desire for freedom, just as we do once said Ingrid
Newkirk, beloved animal rights activist and cofounder of the largest animal rights organizations,
PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. There is a much bigger picture than which lies
centered on the human species. Earth is inhabited with a rich variety of about eight million species,
most of which have been thought to exist for millions of years before humans evolved. The array of
diversity of life on our planet is mind blowing, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The admired biologist and conservationist E.O. Wilson once said, we should preserve every scrap of
biodiversity as priceless while we learn to use it and come to understand what it means to humanity.
This quote seems to encompass the overall main goal of zoologists: to preserve biodiversity, and while
we have it, study and examine it, and make discoveries that could help save all those on this planet.
Dr. Tim Cockerel, in a published interview with BBC, defined his job as a zoologist as someone who
studies species from anything to the diversity of animals, to how animals interact with other living
things, to how animals and humans interact with each other, and how we can make plans to save
threatened or endangered species for the future years to come (Cockerill). The typical zoologist
observes animals in a variety of settings, while studying behavioral tendencies, their natural habitat,
and how their acquired traits are passed down from generation to generation. Some daily activities of a
zoologist include dissection of animal specimens, preparation of slides of disease tissue under
microscopes, studying aggression or mating behaviors, testing the effects of drugs on animals, and
directing biological technicians who work alongside them. They may write scientific reports,
inventory or estimate wildlife populations, consult with management systems, must articulate well and
understand others. Many people who are involved in this field publish articles about their recent
research. The typical employers of zoologists include government departments, universities, private
research firms, biotechnology companies, zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, pharmaceutical agriculture, or
food research companies, environmental consulting firms, and possibly other private organizations. A

Washington In Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave
In Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave, readers are first introduced to Madison Washington, an
enslaved black man, through the perspective of the narrator, Mr. Listwell, a white, northern traveller. It
is through this description of his physical features that we are able to catch a glimpse of Washington s
personality one which defies and breaks stereotypes of black men in the nineteenth century. The first
thing one notices about the manner in which Washington is described is the use of contradictory, yet
complementary, descriptors. Listwell says Washington is of manly form, showing Herculean strength.
It is also said that a child might play in his arms, or dance on his shoulders and that his broad mouth
and nose spoke only of good nature and kindness. One other specific phrase that stands out is his face
was black, but comely. This is, in its original biblical usage, a phrase used to describe a woman
namely, her attractiveness though here, it s being used to describe a man. The fact that a white man is
depicting a man, especially a black one, as attractive, despite his blackness, is pretty noteworthy (this

The use of these animal like comparisons was normally used in a degrading manner, in an attempt to
make black folks seem inhuman, but here that is not the case. Washington is compared to a lion and a
raven; a lion typically represents strength and courage, and a raven symbolizes wit. Ravens, like
Washington, are also dark in appearance, though this does not stop them from being intelligent or
having other positive characteristics, just as Washington s dark skin does not deter him from
possessing positive traits like bravery, intelligence, or strength. It is these comparisons that break the
harmful period typical stereotypes of black men. Douglass takes a damaging way of viewing African

The New Meaning Of Educational Change Essay
According to Michael Fullan (2016) in his book, The New Meaning of Educational Change,
successful organizations that demonstrate change followed principled concepts of change. The reason
for their success if that there is tangible proof of alignment in keeping components of actions. Fullan
(2016) stated that successful change incorporates five factors. In this essay, three of the five factors
will be discussed and an example of an organization using components of the change be revealed.
Often when organization shave to go through the process of change it means either they have gone
through change to repair broken areas or they are going through change as a reflective exercise before
embarking on a larger scope of practice perhaps to expand into new growth within their organization.
In either course, the larger concern is that organizations must embrace change and engage in
meaningful constructed ways to promote the best growth with the fewest steps to reach
accomplishment. A key decision factor to change is whether an organize will change because they
adopt a model and see a better way or whether they want to save their resources. Fullan (2016)
suggested that the reason for the change is largely to work is because, the organizations, Define
closing the gap as the overarching goal, Assume that lack of capacity is the initial problem and then
work on it continuously, and Stay the course through continuity of good direction by leveraging

Body Toxic Summary
Summary
In Susanne Antonetta s environmental memoir, Body Toxic, she explains the story of two immigrant
families who are drawn together from opposite sides of the world, Italy and Barbados, in search of the
American dream. Their intentions circulated around building a summer home in the boglands of the
New Jersey shoreline. They would soon realize that this is where the rural and industrial waste would
gather. The families would enjoy their summertime in the nature that surrounded them, in the trees and
in the water. However, the nuclear plant located nearby would soon create problems for the families.
Gradually, the family members would begin to notice the effects of radiation on their bodies and the
hard future to come.

The author writes in detail about the environment that she was exposed to and how it affected her life
in a negative way. Antonetta was able to describe how terrible the environment was due to the nuclear
waste caused by the local industrial plants.
Significance of the title
I would like to believe that the author chose the title Body Toxic, because it does a good job of
capturing what the novel is going to be about. The title is able to explain the book with few words, but
also leaves room for the imagination. It allows for the reader to create the scenario for his or herself
before becoming invested in the book. The author s creativity is powerful, even from just the title.
First Impression
My first impression of the book was that I thought it would be a book that I would like. It combines a
topic that I m not very interested in (Biology) with a topic that I really enjoy learning about (History).
The novel quickly grabbed my attention and I thought it would be the best choice for me. To be
specific, the third sentence on the first chapter is something that really grabbed my attention, He came

Plant Competition
INTRODUCTION
This experiment was used to show the different types of competition between species. Competition
was defined as being a relationship between members of the same or different species in which
individuals are adversely affected by those having the same living requirements, such as food or space
(Competition 2010). There are two different types of competition that we will be observing during this
experiment. The first type would be intraspecific, which means competition between same species
(1976). The second type of competition is interspecific, which is defined as competition between
different species (1976). These two types of competition have helped us look at the different types of

radish seeds and exposed to only high light. The third pot was filled with bean seeds but exposed to
low light. The fourth pot was filled with radish seeds and exposed to low light. The fifth and final pot
was filled with bean and radish seeds. After allowing the plants to grow we then measured the length
of the largest leaf on each plant. We then cut the plants and weighed them. To measure the leaves we
used a standard ruler measuring the largest leaf on each stalk. We then cut the plants as close to the
soil as possible and weighed them individually on a scale.
RESULTS Radish Leaf Length | Radish High | Radish Mixed | Mean | 42.63245 | 31.7856 | Variance |

The significance is to show that this is an example of interspecific competition and which radish is the
better competitor. Based on this chart, the radish high is the better competitor because it produced the
most observed sprouts. However, the radish mixed had a higher variance and larger leaves so this
would mean that the radish mixed would be a better competitor the for leaf length. Bean Leaf Length |

common, music was mostly performed for monarchs and aristocrats (Burkholder 466). As music
became readily available to the public, composers began writing in a style that was easily understood
by everyone. The period of music that began in 1720 is called the Classic Era. However, as the
political landscape of Europe changed, so did music. Conflicts across the continent forced many
composers to look for work as freelance artists, instead of writing for royal families (Burkholder 592).
Composers began trying to capture the attention of the public by writing pieces with memorable
melodies and strong emotions. By 1820, the Classic Era had transformed into the Romantic Era. The
Classic and Romantic Eras differ in musical style, the use of musical forms, and the design of musical
instruments. One of the main differences between the Classic and Romantic Eras is musical style. In
the Classic Era, composers drew inspiration from ancient Greece and Rome. According to Shannon
Baker Moore, Similar to the simple, classic lines of an ancient Greek temple, composers wanted music
that was balanced, beautiful, and orderly (52). Classic Era music also mirrored the beliefs of
philosophers like Voltaire and Rousseau, who valued logic and reason (Moore 52). A good example of
Classic Era music is Mozart s Piano Concerto No. 21, which is characterized by its light and charming
melodies. In

Building A New Start Up Site
The company I work for, Glass Etching Incorporated, has given me the task and opportunity to expand
their business by choosing the next location abroad for a new start up site. Glass Etching Incorporated
has been in business since August of 2003 and currently provides services within the United States.
The business was originally created in the home of its owners, Tom and Heidi Morgan. Tom and Heidi
started this business by selling their products online through various forms of social media websites
and buying and selling sites, such as EBay. The products offered by GEI include an array of glassware
items to choose from, in which, these items are then sand blasted (etched) with a specific illustrated
design, letters, and/or wording, chosen by the customer. These products are then expedited to the
customer. The company s mission is to provide high quality etched artwork and design on glassware.
Also, the company s purpose is to provide a one of a kind product for the customer, priced reasonably
and competitively and to have the business be solely conducted online by means of electronic
commerce. With the momentum of the company s progress, profit and popularity, the Morgan s
decided it was time to expand and attempt to grow their abroad. The United Kingdom is being
considered for the new export location. They are a higher ranking country, in terms of their economy
and the probability for a successful business start up is more likely. Major trade items in the United

In life, there is a set of questions that causes people to question their purpose in the world. These
questions were designed to be simply that; questions. They have no answer and once the answer seems
to become apparent, it changes into a defining moment, according to Jim Tilley. These defining
moments that were once questions are the things that document our lives and how far we have come.
Jim Tilley wrote the poem The Big Questions to talk about and parallel these things with everyday
life. The big questions are big only/ because they have never been answered (line 1/2). Jim Tilley
begins his poem The Big Questions, by posing a philosophical statement in which the audience begins
to ponder what these questions might be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some may say that it was by chance while others may say that it was fate. Tilley chose to end line 9
with the phrase can t because that is a phrase that constantly floats around the pessimistic mind. It
wrestles with the fact that there are always situations in which one feels as though they can t .
However, the answer to that question is clear to the bear who has determined that you are going to be
his lunch.
The grizzly bear is a metaphor for a problem encountered in life. The three options used to rationalize
what to do when encountering a bear also parallel to what to do in a tough situation. When faced with
a problem, everyone has a different rationalization to deal with it. The options are a constant that can
be applied to any circumstance in life: run away, confront it or sit aside and wait. What we do in tough
situations directly correlates to our response in previous life experiences. In the past, these tough
situations were big questions that made us wonder the typical why did this have to happen to me?
Tilley refers to these as defining moments.
These defining moments are the things that further our experiences and what help to shape us. So this
can be a defining moment, /but not a big question... (Line 20/21). Tilley seems to make a point that the
big questions will all ultimately turn into defining moments. As anyone would realize while

Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet My only love, sprung from my only hate, too early seen unknown, and known to
hate. (Act I, Scene VI, Lines 136 137) The classic tale of the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet has
been told time and time again to dozens of generations. This play tells the story of Romeo Montague
and Juliet Capulet and their forbidden love. The Montague s and Capulet s have been feuding for as
long as anyone in Verona can remember, but one night young Juliet met a masked stranger at a ball
and they fall in love. She ends up discovering this stranger is Romeo Montague and it is forbidden to
have any connection with one of the Montagues, let alone a relationship. Both her and Romeo decide
to keep their love a secret and continue to be together. This causes many problems in the story
including Lord Capulet threatening to disown Juliet if she continued to see Romeo and there being a
miscommunication where Romeo thought Juliet has died and commits suicide because he could never
live without her; where in fact she was under a sleeping potion so her family would think ... Show

If their parents or the townsfolk found out about a Capulet loving a Montague, havoc would rein. Both
of them would have most likely been disowned by their parents and banished from Verona. There was
also the possibility of violence breaking out between the two families if news of this relationship
surfaced. The play s use of secrecy is needed to help create and progress the story line. If Romeo or
Juliet would have either decided to tell their parents about their relationship sooner or would have
married other people; the story would have either been incredibly short or boring. The aspect of family
feuds, true love, and civil battles all help make the play more intriguing, enticing, and iconic. Their
choice of secrecy also shows how they truly loved one another and were willing to face challenges and
adversity for each

Foreign Direct Investment Inflows Help Countries Improve...
There is a long standing belief that foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows help the countries to have
the opportunity to make further improvements on their economies. In recent decade, this belief
strengthened by the fact that faster growing economies tend to attract more FDIs. Even if the direction
of causality between FDI and growth is not absolute yet, positive impacts of FDI such as new
technology, know how or creating employment are enough attractive for policymakers. Consequently,
investigating factors that pull FDI into country became a crucial topic in the literature. One of the
most significant factors of FDI inflows is trade openness. The term trade openness refers to the degree,
of which an economy allows to conduct trade transitions with other economies (Skouloudakis et al.,
2013;12). The degree of a country s openness can influence FDI in various ways. For instance, with
high degree of trade openness and low trade costs, multinational enterprises (MNE) can prefer export
rather than FDI. Therefore, trade openness can negatively affect FDI inflows. On the other hand,
higher degree of trade openness implies lower costs adding to the total cost of a product and less trade
restrictions. MNEs want to take advantage of the low cost of natural factor endowments (labor,
capital, technology). Thus, trade openness can positively affect FDI inflows (Seim, 2009; 5).
Therefore, the evidence of trade openness as a determinant of FDI is controversial in literature.

A Group Of Philosophers All Get Together At A Man Named...
In Plato s Symposium, a group of philosophers all get together at a man named Agathon s house and
eventually decide to give speeches on love. The men all take turns giving their various speeches on
Love, each attacking the idea of Love in a different way. Phaedrus talks about Love s origins and how
Love encourages people to be virtuous, Pausanias makes the distinction between Common Love (love
of body) and Celestial Love (love of mind), Eryximachus talks about how Love promotes balance,
Aristophanes talks about how Love is about people continually searching for their other half (quite
literally), but how people can never find this other half, so people will never be whole, and finally
Agathon talks about Love s beauty and Love s desire for beauty. When Socrates speaks, he starts off
by saying that he will give the truth about Love, which he claims no one else did. He proves this by
questioning Agathon s speech, asking how Love can both be beautiful and desire beauty when people
do not desire what they already have. Furthermore, Socrates recounts a conversation about Love with
Diotima, whose view of Love combines parts of all the other speeches into one truth about love. True
love is passing on one s ideas through celestial love in order to live forever. The clearest part of
Diotima s argument about love is that people use love to make themselves immortal. After Diotima
has finished incorporating the ideas of every speech about Love into one giant truth about love, she

Effects Of Post Colonial Literature
Colonialism has shaped the lives of about three quarter people in this present day world. Post
colonialism refers to the impact that imperial process has caused to the entire culture from the moment
of colonialization till today. All through the history the continuation of colonising the minds through
imperial rule by the Europeans is the cause of this. The effect of this European imperial domination
has spread its impacts on the contemporary literature as well and it is therefore a major concern for the
world today. The literature of Canada, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, New Zealand, Malta, Sri

However, even after getting Independence from the European colonial rule, the European bourgeoisies
still continues to decolonise the minds of people in post colonial countries through language. One of
the main features of imperial oppression is control over language. The imperial education system
installs a standard version of the metropolitan language as the norm, and marginalizes all variants as
impurities. As a character in Mrs Campbell Praed s nineteenth century Australian novel Policy and
Passion puts it, To be colonial is to talk Australian slang; to be ... everything that is abominable .
Language becomes the medium through which a hierarchical structure of power is perpetuated, and
the medium through which conceptions of truth , order , and reality becomes established. Such power
is rejected in the emergence of an effective post colonial voice. Ngugi wa Thiong o in his book,
decolonising the mind portrays this lamentable condition of post colonies through the example of

The Rapport Between A Firm s Strategy And Its Overall...
The term strategy is widely used in the business environment. A strategy is used to decide and achieve
business objectives. The rapport between a firm s strategy and its overall performance is the key focus
in strategic management. Kay (2000) believes that nowadays it is impossible to plan and predict the
future, he argues that strategy has become the influencing of a firms market positioning. A myriad of
models to analyse strategic choices have been described by scholars (Hambrick Fredrickson, 1996).In
the early 1980s, Michael Porter s presented his model of generic strategies. Since then, it has been one
of the most used methods due to its high efficiency (Obasi, et al., 2006) and thus it is seen as the
dominant paradigm of strategic implementation (Hendry, 1990). Porter (1980) realized that strategies
could be divided initially into three categories: 1) Cost leadership 2) Differentiation 3) Focus His
updated framework instead comprehends four groups, as depicted in figure 1. Later on, the focus
strategies were divided in two variants (Hendry, 1990). The main aim of the model is to enable firms
to achieve long term sustainable competitive advantage by being different from their competitors
(Dobson, et al., 2004). Figure 1. Porter s Model of Generic Strategies (Michail, 2011) The notion
underlying the concepts of generic strategies is that firms implement it to gain competitive advantage

Gentrification In Houston Texas
The Third Ward of Houston Texas is a historic district known mainly for two things being rich in
African American history and its exceedingly high crime rates. While this part of town has always
been a solid representation of African American culture when desegregation occurred all families that
could afford to quickly moved to the wealthy parts of the city leaving the district nearly abandoned.
Naturally following the abandonment of the district most businesses followed leaving low income
residents with little to no job opportunities. A popular phenomenon that has arose recently in urban
cities such as these (due to its raving success in cities such as Chicago) is gentrification. Gentrification
is the renovation of these high crime low income areas in the hopes of creating a better neighborhood.
However, one of the unforeseen side effects of gentrification is the displacement of the low income
residents who can no longer afford to live in this nicer neighborhood. Gentrification specifically in
Houston Texas is a tool that is may seem valuable however it often disrupts lives, displaces families,

The Great Gatsby Failure
Francis Scott Fitzgerald wrote many works of literature including one of his best sellers, The Great
Gatsby. The Great Gatsby was considered to be the depiction of The Roaring Twenties, and one of the
best American novels ever written. During this time, The Roaring Twenties doubled the nation s
wealth, which allowed more people to be rich. This wealth caused a split between social classes. The
ones who had their American Dream, and the ones who did not. With its beautiful lyricism, pitch
perfect portrayal of the Jazz Age, and searching critiques of materialism, love and the American

In the succeeding years, Fitzgerald s slim tale of the jazz age became the most celebrated and beloved
novel in the American canon. It s more than an American classic; it s become a defining document of
the national psyche, a creation myth, the Rosetta Stone of the American dream. And yet all the
attempts to adapt it to stage and screen have only served to illustrate its fragility and its flaws.
Fitzgerald s prose somehow elevates a lurid and underdeveloped narrative to the level of myth
(McInerney, Jay).
McInerney is trying to say that reading the novel can give you a much better understanding of the idea
that Fitzgerald was originally trying to get across. This idea being the American Dream and the pursuit
of that dream. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby to show how people acted during
The Jazz Age, the thirst for the American Dream, love, and materialism. Fitzgerald shows the struggle
people went through to try and fulfill their American Dream. Without this dream, people would not
have worked as hard. This time period was ruled by the rich, and what material items they had.

sexual identity is not simple or clean cut and does not stand alone. It intersects with other aspects of
identity such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, education, and so forth (p. 982). What is
considered normal sexual behavior does not constitute homosexuality. Therefore, adolescents who are
struggling with their sexuality, may run into an identity crisis by trying to find themselves while trying
to appeal to societal norms. While the pressure to conform to the heterosexual norm, gays and lesbians
may struggle with their same sex desires. Further, with this schism between their desires, behaviors,
and identities, individuals may experience isolation, low self esteem, depression, and anger (Levy,
2009, p. 983). Unsuccessful resolution of this crisis may lead to role confusion or identity diffusion
(Robins et. all, 2012, p. 215). According to Robins et. Al (2012), youths who emerge with a strong
sense of identity and individuality gain a lasting ego quality of fidelity, or freely pledged loyalties (p.

Panda Bears vs Environment The population of giant pandas is decreasing so rapidly that it has
reached the point that they are considered an endangered species. These black and white bears reside
mainly in China where seventeen percent of the total population of pandas reside. They are habituated
in bamboo forests, which are not only the panda s home, but also their main source of food. A panda s
diet consists of ninety percent bamboo and ten percent of mushrooms, insects, fish, plants and other
small rodents. These bamboo forests are being taken from them, because the human population is
constantly expanding and using their bamboo forests as land for growing crops or to build roads.
Combined with the natural dying on bamboo and logging, these defenseless panda bears are forced to
seek new areas and see whether or not there is a sufficient amount of bamboo for them to consume,
although many of them fail to do so and end up dying of starvation instead. As of today, there are only
twenty nine diminished and fragmented areas that have the appropriate habitat to support the
remaining panda bears. China s pandas have been threatened with extinction, suffered from low birth
rates, and have been ridiculed by human s interference with their habitat; now they are faced with
another obstacle, starvation. The climate change over the years has brought the extinction rate of the

Escapism In Brave New World Essay
Aldous Huxley s Brave New World demonstrates escapism from reality as one of the major themes.
The opposing forces of happiness and truth are juxtaposed within the novel. Many of the characters go

people s lives during the 1950 s which shaped the way that the United States is today. Popular culture

Richard Nixon to easily reach out to the majority of voters and convince them that they should still

Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty within the wizarding community. The betrayals within the Harry Potter Series ask us to reconsider our assumptions about people, no matter why we may have made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, they do this in completely different ways. Whereas one is fictional the other is more realistic, where one is completely competitive the other is completely collegial. Virtual Worlds Management, a firm that tracks virtual worlds, recently announced that over $425 million has been invested during the 4th quarter of 2007 in 15 virtual world companies they were studying (Management, 2007). Apart from making money from investments, the virtual worlds make most of their money from their services. Although the money making techniques differ from company to company, they do share common methods. Firstly, there is usually an upfront cost which could be the box you buy or the activation fee. Bartlett amp; Heather Beckham, 2012, The McGraw Hill companies: Project Management Leadership). She recognizes gains and losses of the project, so she assumes that her first task is only to solve the Unit s problem. The problem of the unit is that it fails to make a profitable new product to market in recent years. Although she attempts to protect their team project and supports their efforts, she is wondered if it is time to cut their losses and organize a strategy for the team. She indicates that more discipline for the unit is required to survive the whole team. In my point of view, Jackson s leadership style is mostly participative behavior because she strongly shows her high supportive behavior to determine what must be done in order to the team gets back its credibility and prestige; however, she is not sure how the task needs to be performed. For example, she reacts to the team s Phase 1 proposal with several questions and challenges. In this matter, there are some assumptions for her in regard with phase 1 proposal. On the other ... The Strengths and Weaknesses of the Cosmological Argument for the Existence of God The cosmological argument seeks to prove the existence of God by looking at the universe. It is an A posteriori proof based on experience and the observation of the world not logic so the outcome is probable or possible not definite. The argument is in three forms; motion, causation and being. These are also the first three ways in the five ways presented by Aquinas through which he believed the existence of God could be shown. Aquinas regarded Aristotle as the principal philosopher so many of these concepts originate in the thinking of Aristotle. One example of the cosmological argument is the argument of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is more believable that the universe had a beginning and a personal creator. The third of Aquinas ways is the argument of contingency. The world consists of contingent items items that have a property are items referred to as being. These items are generated and perish; they have a beginning and an end. There must have once been a time when nothing existed. But then how did these items come into being? There must be something or someone able to bring other items into being without itself being brought into being. This necessary being is God. These arguments are strong ones for the existence of God, built upon clear and apparently true observations of the world around us. However, there are many criticisms. Hume argued that both Thomas Aquinas and William Lane Craig contradict themselves by firstly denying the possibility of the infinite, but then claiming that there must have been an infinite being. How can this be so? Supporters of the argument could use the idea that God is unique and outside the laws of nature. But even so, this point weakens the argument as there is no proof of the attributes of God. Many may ask these questions: Why does the universe have to be caused? Why cannot it always have been there? The human mind seems incapable of comprehending the idea of infinity, yet we accept the idea of an immortal being. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water is important for the sustainment of life, every organisms depends on some type of water source. Plants, animals, and insects can not survive absent of water wether it is a couple of days or a couple of months. Water is a special element of life because of its chemical bonds, the chemical formula for water is H2O, which means that water contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Dr. Tim Cockerel, in a published interview with BBC, defined his job as a zoologist as someone who studies species from anything to the diversity of animals, to how animals interact with other living things, to how animals and humans interact with each other, and how we can make plans to save threatened or endangered species for the future years to come (Cockerill). One other specific phrase that stands out is his face was black, but comely. • 18. The Classic Era And The Classic And Romantic Eras The first public music concerts took place in the early 1700s. Before public concerts became more common, music was mostly performed for monarchs and aristocrats (Burkholder 466). As music became readily available to the public, composers began writing in a style that was easily understood by everyone. The period of music that began in 1720 is called the Classic Era. However, as the political landscape of Europe changed, so did music. Conflicts across the continent forced many composers to look for work as freelance artists, instead of writing for royal families (Burkholder 592). Composers began trying to capture the attention of the public by writing pieces with memorable melodies and strong emotions. By 1820, the Classic Era had transformed into the Romantic Era. The Classic and Romantic Eras differ in musical style, the use of musical forms, and the design of musical instruments. One of the main differences between the Classic and Romantic Eras is musical style. In the Classic Era, composers drew inspiration from ancient Greece and Rome. According to Shannon Baker Moore, Similar to the simple, classic lines of an ancient Greek temple, composers wanted music that was balanced, beautiful, and orderly (52). Classic Era music also mirrored the beliefs of philosophers like Voltaire and Rousseau, who valued logic and reason (Moore 52). There is a long standing belief that foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows help the countries to have the opportunity to make further improvements on their economies. In recent decade, this belief strengthened by the fact that faster growing economies tend to attract more FDIs. Even if the direction of causality between FDI and growth is not absolute yet, positive impacts of FDI such as new technology, know how or creating employment are enough attractive for policymakers. Consequently, investigating factors that pull FDI into country became a crucial topic in the literature. One of the most significant factors of FDI inflows is trade openness. The term trade openness refers to the degree, of which an economy allows to conduct trade transitions with other economies (Skouloudakis et al., 2013;12). The degree of a country s openness can influence FDI in various ways. For instance, with high degree of trade openness and low trade costs, multinational enterprises (MNE) can prefer export rather than FDI. Therefore, trade openness can negatively affect FDI inflows. On the other hand, higher degree of trade openness implies lower costs adding to the total cost of a product and less trade restrictions. MNEs want to take advantage of the low cost of natural factor endowments (labor, capital, technology). Thus, trade openness can positively affect FDI inflows (Seim, 2009; 5). Therefore, the evidence of trade openness as a determinant of FDI is controversial in literature. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. A Group Of Philosophers All Get Together At A Man Named... In Plato s Symposium, a group of philosophers all get together at a man named Agathon s house and eventually decide to give speeches on love. The men all take turns giving their various speeches on Love, each attacking the idea of Love in a different way. Phaedrus talks about Love s origins and how Love encourages people to be virtuous, Pausanias makes the distinction between Common Love (love of body) and Celestial Love (love of mind), Eryximachus talks about how Love promotes balance, Aristophanes talks about how Love is about people continually searching for their other half (quite literally), but how people can never find this other half, so people will never be whole, and finally Agathon talks about Love s beauty and Love s desire for beauty. When Socrates speaks, he starts off by saying that he will give the truth about Love, which he claims no one else did. He proves this by questioning Agathon s speech, asking how Love can both be beautiful and desire beauty when people do not desire what they already have. Furthermore, Socrates recounts a conversation about Love with Diotima, whose view of Love combines parts of all the other speeches into one truth about love. True love is passing on one s ideas through celestial love in order to live forever. The clearest part of Diotima s argument about love is that people use love to make themselves immortal. After Diotima has finished incorporating the ideas of every speech about Love into one giant truth about love, she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a character in Mrs Campbell Praed s nineteenth century Australian novel Policy and Passion puts it, To be colonial is to talk Australian slang; to be ... everything that is abominable . • 28. The Rapport Between A Firm s Strategy And Its Overall... The term strategy is widely used in the business environment. A strategy is used to decide and achieve business objectives. The rapport between a firm s strategy and its overall performance is the key focus in strategic management. Kay (2000) believes that nowadays it is impossible to plan and predict the future, he argues that strategy has become the influencing of a firms market positioning. A myriad of models to analyse strategic choices have been described by scholars (Hambrick Fredrickson, 1996).In the early 1980s, Michael Porter s presented his model of generic strategies. Since then, it has been one of the most used methods due to its high efficiency (Obasi, et al., 2006) and thus it is seen as the dominant paradigm of strategic implementation (Hendry, 1990). Porter (1980) realized that strategies could be divided initially into three categories: 1) Cost leadership 2) Differentiation 3) Focus His updated framework instead comprehends four groups, as depicted in figure 1. Later on, the focus strategies were divided in two variants (Hendry, 1990). The main aim of the model is to enable firms to achieve long term sustainable competitive advantage by being different from their competitors (Dobson, et al., 2004). Figure 1. Porter s Model of Generic Strategies (Michail, 2011) The notion underlying the concepts of generic strategies is that firms implement it to gain competitive advantage over its rivals, by achieving above average performance, leading to higher ... In the succeeding years, Fitzgerald s slim tale of the jazz age became the most celebrated and beloved novel in the American canon. It s more than an American classic; it s become a defining document of the national psyche, a creation myth, the Rosetta Stone of the American dream. And yet all the attempts to adapt it to stage and screen have only served to illustrate its fragility and its flaws. Fitzgerald s prose somehow elevates a lurid and underdeveloped narrative to the level of myth (McInerney, Jay). McInerney is trying to say that reading the novel can give you a much better understanding of the idea that Fitzgerald was originally trying to get across. It intersects with other aspects of identity such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, education, and so forth (p. 982). What is considered normal sexual behavior does not constitute homosexuality. Therefore, adolescents who are struggling with their sexuality, may run into an identity crisis by trying to find themselves while trying to appeal to societal norms. Further, with this schism between their desires, behaviors, and identities, individuals may experience isolation, low self esteem, depression, and anger (Levy, 2009, p. 983). Unsuccessful resolution of this crisis may lead to role confusion or identity diffusion (Robins et. all, 2012, p. 215). According to Robins et. They are habituated in bamboo forests, which are not only the panda s home, but also their main source of food. A panda s diet consists of ninety percent bamboo and ten percent of mushrooms, insects, fish, plants and other small rodents. These bamboo forests are being taken from them, because the human population is constantly expanding and using their bamboo forests as land for growing crops or to build roads. Combined with the natural dying on bamboo and logging, these defenseless panda bears are forced to seek new areas and see whether or not there is a sufficient amount of bamboo for them to consume, although many of them fail to do so and end up dying of starvation instead. As of today, there are only twenty nine diminished and fragmented areas that have the appropriate habitat to support the remaining panda bears. China s pandas have been threatened with extinction, suffered from low birth rates, and have been ridiculed by human s interference with their habitat; now they are faced with another obstacle, starvation.
