Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral
Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral
The central concept of Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of
Morals is the categorical imperative. The conception of an objective principle, in so far as it is
obligatory for a will, is called a command (of reason), and the formula of the command is called an
Imperative. (Abbott, 30) An imperative is something that a will ought or shall do because the will
is obligated to act in the manner in which it conforms with moral law. The categorical imperative is
an obligation by the will to act so that the action can be classified as a universal law. When one
acts in conformity with the universal law at all times, they are following out the categorical ... Show

The action of killing oneself would cause pain, which is not in conformity to the maxim stated to
avoid pain. The second example Kant gives is based on the basic premise of lying. A man is
forced to borrow money which he knows he will never be able to repay but he promises to do so
anyway. This action is not consistent with duty and the maxim could be expressed as: When I [the
man] think myself in want of money, I will borrow money and promise to repay it, although I know
that
I never can do so. (Abbott, 39) The maxim cannot hold as a universal law because if everyone
lied about promises, the promise itself would become impossible, and the end would be
unattainable. Telling the truth is an end in itself. The third example is of a man who it bestowed
a natural ability but does not use it to it s full extent. Kant sees this as not a categorical
imperative because a rational being necessarily wills that he develop his skills for many possible
reasons. Rational beings are an end in themselves, and if you do not better yourself, you are not
serving yourself.(Abbott, 40) Lastly, the fourth man, in great prosperity, has a chance to help
others in need and does not. This can be viewed as a workable universal law, but it cannot be willed
as the good thing to do

Utilitarianism Gay Marriage
Gay Marriages
I strongly agree with the legalization of the gay marriages in many of the societies even though it
is a subject that elicits mixed reactions and opposition from some quarters. The utilitarianism
approach that seeks to establish whether the end justifies the means can be applied whereby the
benefits of such legalization and the disadvantages are compared. When gay marriages are
legalized, the beneficiaries will include the gays, adopted children and the society as a whole.
Opponents such include religion, which argues that marriage is a sacred institution to be shared
between a man and woman and that marriage, should serve a higher purpose of reproduction.
However, the opponents would not suffer in effect since they only claim

Analysis Of An Extraordinary Pair
General Groves is the biggest S.O.B I have ever worked for. (Colonel Kenneth D. Nicholas, 121).
General Groves is a man that is neutral and does not take no for an answer. Groves behavior
such as, the way he treats others, holding all authority and responsibility, as well as the way he
presents himself points to him being a successful autocratic leader. Autocratic leadership is a
style where everything is centered on the boss meaning that they make decisions without
consulting others and have little flexibility. He has exhibited little flexibility this throughout all
the readings in An Extraordinary Pair by having high expectations of those around him. He
abounds with energy and expects everyone to work as hard or even harder, than he does...
(Colonel Kenneth D. Nicholas, 121). There have been multiple accounts of Groves emotional
neutrality. Emotional Neutrality s the concept of removing emotions from decisions. At the
beginning of An Extraordinary Pair both Groves and Oppenheimer were characterized as people
who ...overcame personal differences to achieve their common purpose. (109). Groves himself
has addressed his neutrality by stating My emotional graph is a straight line... (General Groves,
Robert DeVore 119). This idea of having a lack of emotion has allowed Groves to not be
surprised nor elated by the continued success of the project. The general opinion about Groves is
that people saw him as a highly intelligent individual as well as someone who would not go

The Sagrada Familia
The Temple [of The Sagrada FamГlia] grows slowly, but this has always been the case with
everything destined to have a long life. Hundred year old oak trees take many years to grow tall;
on the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no
more to be said 1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life long work, Temple Expiatori
de la Sagrada FamГlia, are a means to justify the extremely long time needed for the construction of
the Sagrada FamГlia, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature
in his designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple s
eventual completion, as its construction has just passed 123 years,... Show more content on

project, Francisco de Paula de Villar, originally designed the temple as a purely neo gothic
structure. Less than a year into the project, the budget again played a role in the future of the
Sagrada FamГlia, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar
columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with
rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who
criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned
because he was not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year
old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation and Gaudi were equally excited
to be working together on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a
masterpiece they were destined to create.

The Degree of Success of Reza Shah Pahlavi after the 1925 Coup
A passionate but ruthless nationalist with little formal education, Reza Khan had a clear vision for
Iran s transition to modernity often using Ataturk s Turkey as a model. Milani, Mohsen M. The
Making of Iran s Islamic Revolution.
Iran entered the interwar period in a troubled state. Iran s economy was devastated and its current
ruler Ahmad Shah seemed to have little authority over his country as it was in effect governed by
the ruling powers Britain and Russia. However in October 1917 the balance of power was altered

Then, with the support of the army, the British and the ulama, Reza Khan persuaded the Majlis to
entrust the crown of the oldest monarchy on earth to (his) family [5] thus marking the beginning of
the Pahlavi dynasty.
Reza Khan, now firmly in power, began a period of rapid modernization. Modernization is defined
as the process of changing the conditions of a society by forcing them to accept many of the
attributes and conventions of the current century. This is exactly what the new shah tried to do,
however his methods proved ineffective. The shah s reforms were on numerous occasions
superficial and not successful. The shah based many of his ideals on his role model, Mustafa
Kamal Attaturk. But he was less successful than Ataturk in forging a strong national ideology
because Ataturk was able to control the mullahs and to find a place for them as well as for
merchants and intellectuals in the new Turkey. He governed as an autocrat but also as a twentieth
century politician. By contrast, Reza Shah ruled as a monarch, proving adept as centralization but
not at delegation. [6] He saw the clergy as a hindrance to his plans for modernization and did

What Is The Mood Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, ВЁThe Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,ВЁ readers
learn about Francis character through the perspectives of other characters. Hemingway develops
Francis character as a man full of shame, cowardice, and bravery by using multiple perspectives as
he threads a negative tone throughout the story.
Topic Sentence: A characteristic of Francis that is developed through the short storyis shamefulness.
Example Wilson Perspective: Francis brings shame upon himself when he continually asks Wilson
to not talk about the lion. Wilson furthers the shamefulness by saying ВЁI m a professional hunter.
We never talk about our clientsВЁ (Page 4)

She brings shame and pain upon her husband by hinting to him that he was not the actual one that
killed the lion. Margaret uses the lion hunt as a way to mentally bully and harm Francis as she has
done in the past to show she is the one that controls their relationship.
Transition sentence: The narrator also contributes to tell about and bring shamefulness into the life
of Francis Macomber
Evidence Narrator:Sometimes Hemingway uses the narrator to further develop characteristics, such
as on page 1, The gun bearers had taken no part in the demonstration.
Explanation: The gun bearers do not verbally bring shame into Francis life, however they do bring
shame into his life by their actions. They brings shame to Francis because they know what really
happened with the lion hunt. The gun bearers not congratulating him for the kill plays a major role in
the story and the unmanliness Mr.Macomber experienced through his life.
Conclusion sentence: Hemingway s craft of repetition creates shame for Francis. Repetition creates
shame for Francis because he is constantly looked down from his wife and Wilson. By using
multiple characters to portray this character trait, it further explains and shows the true meaning of

The Chart Of The Gantt Chart
1.Introduction
Over the past decades there have been remarkably developments of techniques and methods for
managers to cope with a wide variety forms of projects. And one of those techniques is the Gantt
chart which is an exceptional tool for compiling a project schedule and visual evaluation of its
performance. Furthermore, the chart allows managers to assess the current status of projects at any
moment before proceeding to the direct management of the both single and multiple projects and
their components. Thus, an application of the Gantt chart appears to be particularly practical in
managing projects irrespective of their scope and field. By revealing the key principles of the Gantt
charting, the following paper will attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Yakura (2002) and Dobson (1999) the chart was developed by Henry Gantt during the
First World War, whereas Gido and Clements (1999) suggest that the beginning of the twentieth
century was the date of creation. Since that period, although the Gantt chart, representing a timeline
table with tasks crashed over period, is credited with a relatively simplicity, it is acknowledged as
an enormously useful tool of planning projects (Dobson, 1999).
Since the Gantt chart was first created, forms and components of the graph have been altered
and interpreted in a distinctive way throughout the period. Although the incipience of computers
has brought a progressive effect, the basis of the chart remains unchanged. Badiru (2009)
defines the Gantt chart as an uncomplicated form of timeline to display amount of projected and
actual work to be done in a given framework of time. As can be seen from Figure 1, the vertical
axis presents all involved activities, while the timescale is designated along the horizontal axis
over a calendar period. A distinctive feature of the chart is that it involves altogether separate
individual tasks of a project, their duration and an arrangement of assigned activities. Moreover, as
a project progresses, accomplished tasks can be seen as a result of indicated bars on the chart
(Badiru, 2009). Interpreting the chart as a visually simple and clear project management tool
Dobson (1999) points out that it permits to determine necessary labor force

Exoticism In Carmen And Benjamin Britten s Death In Venice
Ralph P. Locke s theory of musical exoticism takes form through a spectrum that ranges from pure
musical exoticism to transcultural composing. However the main requirement of exoticism is the
notion of conjuring up a specific place or group of people as being perceived as different from
the audience culture. In terms of pure exoticism, the composer willingly incorporates exotic
sounding elements in order to mark a specific group or place as foreign. Transcultural composing
is the other facet of exoticism. It is different in that it is not intended to marginalize any exotic
group, rather it is a mix of Western and non western styles. While both George Bizet s Carmen and
Benjamin Brittens Death In Venice incorporate exoticism, they each take on an opposite form of
exoticism. Bizet s use of stereotypical gypsy music, as well as the portrayal of Carmen, explicitly
marginalize and construct Carmen as different. Carmen s lack of Spanish descent and her Gypsy
ethnicity are constructed as different via musical and performative aspects of the opera. Within the
exoticism framework, Bizet s carmen is an example of pure exoticism. In contrast, Britten s Death
In Venice is an example of transcultural composing because the other being marginalized is
homosexuality, which is an identity that Britten is apart of and is not exclusive to any one group.
George Bizet s Carmen was an opera that followed a Gypsy woman named Carmen in Seville,
Spain. Carmen was characterized as being a gypsy

Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese...
Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export BehaviorsпјљDoes
productivity counter the effect of institutional environment?
We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes
in one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space
and region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firmmodel developed by Mayer and Melitz et
al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export
behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of
institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment
enhances firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms,
but are reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of
financial constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets
the trade enhancing effects of institutional environment.
I. Introduction
Despite a voluminous literature on the impact of firm productivity on export behaviorпјЊthe
effects that institutional environment differences among regions may have on firm s export
behavior and the extent to which productivity may counter these effects have received little
attention. Institutional environment difference is defined as the degree to which policies and

In between the countries of Germany and France lies Switzerland, a diverse country with a rich
history. Part of this rich history contributes to the multilingualism of this nation state. Switzerland

19th and 20th Century of Europe
Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries
Introduction
During the 19th and 20th century, Europe witnessed its so called demographic transition, with a
fall in birth rates and an even greater fall in mortality rates, which led to a rapid increase in the
population. The demographic transition was essentially a result of a decrease in chronic infectious
diseases like tuberculosis, syphilis, diphtheria, measles, dysentery, and typhoid fever.
The wage dispersion evidence suggests that the middle of the 19th century is an appropriate date for
the start of modern convergence in the Atlantic economy. One might view this convergence as one
of transition toward globally integrated Atlantic factor markets. The convergence in wages from

And while restrictions on farm imports are still prominent in Europe today, OECD farm sectors are
far too small to matter economy wide to the extent that they did a century ago. Furthermore, the
migrations from poor to rich countries today are pretty trivial affairs compared with the mass
migrations up to World War I. Today, only the U.S. has across the border migration rates anything
like those recorded all over the converging Atlantic economy prior to the quotas. And governments
today have far more sophisticated ways to compensate losers than they had a century ago.
Conclusion
In conclusion we can say that during the 19th and 20th century the well to do European economies
of that time included the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany, as well as Britain. In
contrast, the nine members of the European periphery at this time were Austria, Denmark, Finland,
Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. (Austria and Denmark can be viewed as
straddling the margin between core and periphery.) The industrial core countries had levels of
GDP per head 67 percent higher than the poor European periphery (O Rourke, 1997), and their real
wages were 86 percent higher than the periphery. Note again that the sample excludes east and
southeast Europe simply because the late 19th century data are inadequate for those regions. We do

Causes and Elevation of the Sino-Soviet Schism Essay
Causes and Elevation of the Sino Soviet Schism
It can be argued that the most significant effect on foreign policy during the Cold
War, besides the arms race, was the schism and eventually antagonism between the USSR and
China. Some historians have argued that the schism between the USSR continued to elevate
throughout the Cold War. Alvin Z. Rubenstien, in his book Soviet Foreign Policy
Since World War II makes the argument that The Sino Soviet rift is more complex today
[Rubenstien wrote his book in 1985] than ever before. (Rubenstien, 148) Some historians argue that
the schism has continued to grow long after the end of the 1960 s.

After this failure the Soviets refused to invest anymore time into the Chinese cause. The Soviets
even joined the United States in support of the nationalist (and anticommunist) government in
unifying their country
[China], improving their military and economic conditions. (Warth, 56 9). Even after a
Mao, a communist, had taken power Stalin seemed reluctant to cut ties with the head of the
nationalist government, Chiang Kai Shek. This reluctance of Stalin s led China to distrust the
motives of the Soviet Union, espicially in the 1950 s when the USSR asked
China to help North Korea in the Korean War. (Westard, 36 7) Some historians claim that the roots
of the hostility between the Russian and the
Chinese an be traced back to the thirteenth and fourteenth century when Mongol Tartars conquered
most of Russia. During the nineteenth century Russian tsars conquered large parts of China and
imposed unfair treaties on the Chinese empire. (Salisbury, 48 50) With this new information in
mind, combined with the shaky start of Sino Soviet relations, it become more understandable that
two neighboring nations, both with similar ideologies, might not have completely affable relations..
The first indication of cooperation between the USSR and communist China was in February 1950
when China and the Soviet Union negotiated the Sino Soviet Treaty of Alliance. A portion of this
treaty dealt with a loan of

Women in the Work Force 1960s
The 1960s were a time of social and political identification for American women. Despite the victory
of voting rights, women still experienced discrimination in daily life. With the current millenium
drawing to a close, women today still express concern of unequal treatment. It is important to glance
backwards in history and remember the struggles that our mothers and grandmothers experienced.
Thanks to the women of the past, women of the present are able to participate in politics and
receive equal pay for equal jobs. The struggle continues, but we conquer more discrimination every
year.
It has always been a popular misconception that women are the weaker sex.1 This idea leads to the

became famous for their efforts: When thinking about the most famous civil rights activists of the

In the 1960s women were being recruited into the labor force in large numbers making

The 1960s saw an increase of 19.5% in the labor force.5 The greatest increase in employment was

The Perspective That Influenced My Life
Everyone s perspectives have been influenced by their experiences. Every so often a grand

that influence your life the most. I know that I have definitely been influenced by innumerable
occurrences, but one perspective stands out more than others. My perspective is unlike the
majority of others. This is from the perspective of a girl who has four loving parents. Some kids
may find it difficult to deal with four parents, but for me it is comforting. Having multiple
parents, I receive more support with everything I undertake. For example, it is not just my mother
and father supporting my decision to attend Lenape for Culinary but also my step mother and
step father. So, as you can tell I acquire an abundance amount of support. Although people may be
under the impression that it would be more difficult to receive permission when wanting to do
something, in my instance, it is actually better to get more perspectives. Growing up, my father
told me no to a large amount of activities that I wanted to do. Now I m allowed to do more after
school activities, as well as spend more timewith friends. I live with my father and step mother. My

Baroque Vs. Baroque Renaissance
The style that followed the Renaissance is usually called Baroque . But, while it is easy to identify
the earlier style by definite marks of recognition, this is not so simple in the case of Baroque.
Baroque is considered to be one of the great periods of art history , and it is generally identified as
being developed by Caravaggio, Gianlorenzo Bernini and Annibale Carracci. The Baroqueperiod
developed in Europe in around 1600, and it can be seen partly as a reaction against the intricate
and formulaic Mannerism that dominated the Late Renaissance. Nevertheless, to see Baroque as
simply being a reaction against Renaissance ideals and norms is simplistic. Modern scholarship has
identified within the Baroque clear signs of a return to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By synthesising these elements, I will establish how the Baroque can be distinguished from its
precursors.
The term Baroque , like many period designations, is not a complementary one. It had the
connotation of meaning bizarre taste that does not follow the rules of the classical. This provides
one basic definition of the Baroque; its contrast to classicism, despite the fact that Baroque was a
reaction to, and an adaption of, the classical tradition. The word Baroque was a term employed by
critics of a later period who fought against the tendencies of the seventeenth century, and wanted to
hold them up to ridicule. Baroque really means... grotesque, and it was used by men who insisted
that the forms of classical building should never have been used or combined except in the ways

After the idealism of the Renaissance, and the slightly forced nature of Mannerism, Baroque above
all reflected the religious tensions of the age notably the desire of the Catholic Church in Rome (as
annunciated at the Council of Trent) to reassert itself in the wake of the Protestant Reformation.
Thus, Baroque art became synonymous with the Catholic Counter Reformation. Baroque art in
Catholic nations reflected the desire of Emperors and monarchs to strengthen their political position
and glorify their own divine grandeur. By comparison, Baroque art in

Farewell To Manzanar Analysis
These days most people don t realize that we need to accept what s happening in our lives and just
look to the light at the end of the tunnel. Sean McCabe, web designer, lettering guru, and successful
entrepreneur says, Endurance is the price tag to achievement. In Farewell to Manzanar we see a
motif of endurance conveyed through the symbolic characteristics of stones. Jeanne Wakatsuki
Houston was put into relocation camps along with about 110,000 just because they were of
Japanese descent. However throughout the story of her journey in Manzanarwe hear the Japanese
saying, Shikata ga nai. Jeanne and many other people in the book say this, which roughly translates
to, it cannot be helped. These people endured the imprisonment and injustice simply because they
saw that it must be endured. The stone motif in the story screams out the idea that when faced with
a challenge you must endure and let it sculpt you into the person you are.
Throughout the book when the stone motif comes into play it has a strong connection to something
a character experienced. This is first shown when Papa cries when he is playing the
Greek 2
Japanese anthem. It brings back a memory of what the song means to him. It can be a man s life.

John Anderton s The Minority Report
Chapter two of The Minority Report represents many features of the Pre crime Commissioner John

The Dead And J. Alfred Prufrock Analysis
Many people don t usually put the words love and dead in the same sentence, because they
believe the two are as different as night and day. These same people would find it hard to believe
that the similarity between Gabriel Conroy from The Dead and J. Alfred Prufrock from the The
Love song of J. Alfred Prufrock would be so uncanny. Gabriel and J. Alfred Prufrock are both very
insecure, uncomfortable around women, and also pathetic.
In today s society many have insecurities including, and not limited to, the way they look and the
way their actions will be viewed by others. Gabriel Conroy from The Dead is insecure in more ways
than one. In The Dead Gabriel s insecurity about whether or not he should include a quotation
from Browning can be found when he thinks He would only make himself ridiculous (p.g.10 )
showing he is very insecure about what his peers will think of him for including the quotation.
Gabriel can be shown to also have insecurities about his feelings No, it was not the moment yet.
(pg. 65), showing him in the light of not being able to show or tell his feelings toward Gretta.
Insecurity not only knocked on Gabriel s door, but it also has knocked on the door of J. Alfred
Prufrock. In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Prufrock is being insecure about the way he
looks. This can be seen when it says How his hair is growing thin! (line 41), and But how his
arms and legs are thin! (line 44), showing Prufrock s worry of what the women in the room will
think and say about him. Both Gabriel and Prufrock are similar in that they are very insecure.
Gabriel from the dead finds himself in uncomfortable situations, most of them being when he is
around women. In The Dead Gabriel finds himself in an uncomfortable situation with Lucy
when he says, I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days... (p.g. 8), which
Lucy replies, The men that is now is only all palaver and what they can get out of you. (p.g. 8), at
this reply Gabriel starts to feel uncomfortable. He tries to fix the situation by giving Lucy money,

Galantamine Therapeutic Summary
Medications like Galantamine that contain cholinesterase inhibitors are good treatment options for
Alzheimer s disease and dementia. They stimulate the release of nicotinic and muscarinic type of
cholinergic receptors by preventing acetylcholine from breaking down. Galantamine has the ability
to enhance cholinergic transmission. For this reason it can be used for a multitude of medications
to enhance the transmission of cholinergic receptors. This study aimed to evaluate the possible
effects of Galantamine being used as an alternative therapeutic to Risperidone to help control

Electronic Cigarettes Essay
Abstract
Smoking traditional cigarettes causes various adverse health effects; however, the causes of
smoking electronic cigarettes remains unknown. The proposal presents a study that will measure
fundamental frequency. Approximately eighty University of Central Florida students who are non
smokers, ages 18 to 24 years old, will smoke an electronic cigarette. Each student will be measured
on fundamental frequency before and after an electronic cigarette smoking session. It is predicated
that a non smokers use of an electronic cigarette will immediately produce a reduction in
fundamental frequency, which may serve as a precursor to signal future medical pathologies
similar to that of traditional cigarettes. The comparisons of pre versus post smoke sessions for
vocal fold vibration will be analyzed based on the fundamental frequency scoring. The demographic
variable, gender, may also impact fundamental frequency results, and will too be analyzed. The
proposal provides an overview of the literature and specific methodological strategies for
implementing the research. Expected outcomes and future research will be discussed.

The Generation Of The New Generation
The unknown future may be frightening, but knowing the Millennials are the next generation of
leaders to change the world should be comforting. Millennials make up the population of society
that was born between 1980 and 2000 and in America there are more millennials right now than
baby boomers more than 80 million (Simmons Duffit). Just like every new generation, the
Millennials have been endlessly criticized by older generations. They have been called lazy,
entitled, self absorbed, social media crazed, technology addicts, privileged, and so much more.
This generation change has drawn more public attention than ever before, maybe because of the
access to widespread information nowadays or maybe because this time, it s a bigger deal.
Millennials aren t afraid to address this topic because they believe that they can change the world
for the better. They want the judgements in communities and the criticisms in the workplace to
stop. They want society to realize they are not so different from generations before, they are
already transforming life as we know it, and that they will soon be the next generation of leaders
and nothing can change that. Although Millennials can be perceived in multiple negative aspects,
older generations should be open to the unique potential that this massive generation has to offer as
an opportunity to close the gap of separation and learn to grow from each other. One of the most
common criticism of Millennials is their tendency to be lazy.

A Common Understanding Of Weather Menace
1.What is fog? A common understanding of this weather menace must be established before
delving into its dangers. Layman s terms suggest that fog is a low hovering cloud which limits
the visibility at ground level in a wide variety of intensity. From personal experience, fog may
prevent you from locating your own home, or may simply cause the air to feel moist. Fog forms
when the difference between air temperature and dew point is generally less than 4 В°F. Fog
begins to form when water vapor condenses into tiny liquid water droplets suspended in the air,
usually also clinging to pollutants or naturally occurring particles (ex: dust, salt, etc.) Water
vapor is added to the air by: wind convergence into areas of upward direction, precipitation,
daytime heating which evaporates water from the surface of large bodies of water, oceans or
wetlands; transpiration from plants, cool or dry air moving over warmer water, and lifting air
over mountains. Think of fog as a lower rendition of the cloud form stratus; meaning it is a
lower deck that occurs when a cool air mass is confined under a warm air mass. 2.Different types
of fogs? Foggiest place in the United States? Fog can form in many ways dependent on what
caused the cooling and how the condensation occurred. The most common form of fog, Radiation
fog, is fashioned by the cooling of terrain after sun down by thermal radiation when wind
conditions are relatively calm and cloud cover is at a minimum. The cooling ground produces

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rainwater...
INTRODUCTION
It is widely known that water covers up to 70% of our planet s surface. However, we have never
been able to have enough fresh water to meet our demands. Up until now, 1.1 billion people
worldwide still lack the access to usable water sources and a total of 2.7 billion find water scarce

Water crisis is now a global problem. Since the 1950s till this present date the population of

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT
In times of such crisis today, rainwater harvest is indeed a blessing. However, there is no perfect
solution for a reality problem.
Below we are going to highlight some advantage and disadvantages of rainwater harvesting.
Advantage
1.Rain water harvest relieves pressure on other water sources. In a small community such in rural
or mountain area, rainwater supply can co exist with other sources and can act as a supplement to
them. (CEF, 2013)
2.Safe, drinkable reserved rainwater can be the solution when there is a calamity or an outbreak of
safe water. It can help us prevent many diseases and epidemic to spread wide during water crises
due to the use of unclean, contaminated water.
3.Storing excess rain water during rainy season can help reduce the possibility of. Drainage
overload can also be prevented by keeping drinkable fresh water from the rainwater. Furthermore,
water from flood can also be well taken care of and utilized by the rain harvesting system.(GDRC,

terms of what Alfred Gell calls the art nexus. In his book Art and Agency, Gell s theory of the art

if they are living beings or even persons, that in turn act back upon the viewer, entering into a

Cuban Food Revolution Essay
Food Revolution in Cuba
When we think of Cuba, we think revolution, yet we will zoom in on a different revolution that
has been happening in Cuba and this is a food revolution. This crucial movement was in response
to crisis, hitherto it resulted in the most innovative act of sustainability. After Fidel Castro seized
power in 1959, the US placed an embargo on the country. They were maintained by the Soviet
Union, yet they would face a downfall that would propel innovation. When the Soviet Union
collapsed in 1991, deemed the Special Period, the country suffered a tremendous loss in the
supply of food, medicine, and fuel, and so had to find a way to feed the people. Action to grow in
vacant lots began and resulted in what is now called organoponicos. In Micky Ellinger s Urban
Agriculture in Cuba, he cites that there are over 7,000 organoponicos and growing. In the city of
Havana there are close to 2.1 million people, it houses more that 200 gardens and thousands of

The urban agriculture development succeeded due to structural changes implemented by the

This is known as a passive mood . (Jayne Buckley, 2004) Throughout this stage the suspect is on the
defensive and may withdraw and focus their thoughts on punishments. (Buckley, 2000)
The passive mood reached in step six is where the investigator may recognize that the suspect has
given up and is ready to confess. (Associates J. E., 2014) The suspect will appear less tense,
defeated and may even begin to cry. The investigators response to this passive mood is where stage
six begins by condensing their themes down to just one or two, and head into the next and last
stage. The investigator will remain in close proximity and start introducing the alternate questions.
(Buckley, 2000)
Presenting an alternate form of questions to the suspect is the seventh step. The investigator will
ask a question with a positive and negative choice. Both choices usually result in the suspect
admitting some sort of guilt. An innocent suspect will listen to both choices and reject both of
them. The alternative should be followed up with a statement of support in which the interrogator
tells the suspect that they think it was done for a good reason. (Buckley, 2000)
Corroboration of the admission of guilt is stage eight of this technique. This is obtained by
collecting details of the offense from the suspect by using open ended questions. The interrogator
moves from the persuasion phase of questioning to a simpler

After a series of disappointing big screen roles, Sandler finally had some luck. He co scripted the
movie quot;Billy Madison quot; and starred in it as a young man forced to repeat grades 1

fairly well.
Sandler soon quit SNL in order to concentrate on movies. Happy Gilmore provided the break he

Wizard of Oz as a Fairytale Essay
Wizard of Oz as a Fairytale
This question is deceptive in its apparent simplicity as it raises some problematic issues, which
extend beyond the text right across fairytale scholarship.
The term fairytale itself is a contentious one and is unpopular with many folklorists (see Luthi,

translations of European works the more semantically accurate Russian or German terms

This distance is necessitated by Oz s irreconcilable differences from what Baum himself calls the
old time fairy tale exemplified by the fantastic stories of Grimm (Baum, 1).
So , with fairytale consistency, we shall begin at the beginning:
On the very first page of Oz Baum actually states that his wish was to create a modern American
fairy tale similar to the old time collections of the Grimm brothers.
This artistic intention instantly problematises the text in the context of its generic status. It begs
the question of whether a story can be a true fairytale if it is so informed by its natural
predecessors which sprang almost spontaneously from ancient and anonymous sources. Baum
writes with a scholarly knowledge of fairytales behind him. In fact he wrote a 1902 essay On the
Fairytale.
Fairytales have a vaguely documented chronology that potentially stretches back to thousands of
years BC. They are sourced from myth, legend, the collective unconscious, rumour, tradition or
abstractions from real events (Propp, xvii). It could be argued that Oz has the same ultimate roots
but its lineage is traceable due to its age and the relative youth of the socio political cultural
environment that spawned it. In wonder tales the author is not a considered presence; they are
cumulative creations that arose out of

lot of insight. Robert Frost spoke at John F. Kennedy s inauguration. He is the only poet to have had
the opportunity to speak at a presidential inauguration. Through his poetry people learn that Robert
Frost is a complicated and intellectual man who has a place in many American hearts. (Richards
P.10) In order to understand where Robert Frost is coming from in his poetry it is important to
learn about the experiences in his life. Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco.

While he is in England he writes many poems such as, Choose Greatly and Nothing but what we
somehow choose. These poems reflect greatly upon choosing what you want. Perhaps Frost
does not choose to go to England but I m sure he was glad that he goes. (Pritchard P.8) Once
Frost and his family went to England they situate themselves in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
This is the place near where Milton finished Paradise Lost . It is a very nice place where Frost
could concentrate on his poetry. One of Frost s first poems he wrote in England was called In
England. Alone in rain I sat today On top of a gate beside the way, And a bird came near with
muted bill And a watery breeze kept blowing chill From over the hill behind me.
I could not tell what in me stirred To hill and gate and rain and bird, Till lifting hair and bathing
brow The watery breeze came fresher now From over the hill to remind me. This poem never
had a chance to be published during Frost s life. The poem is pretty self explanatory. To me it is
obvious that it is written while he is in England. The mention of rain and watery breezes give it
away because England is surrounded by water. I believe that Frost knew that he could make his
career work in England. The line The watery breeze came fresher now From over the hill to remind
me makes me think that England would give him new inspiration. Everything he did in

Informative Essay On Pam Grier
Pam Grier: The Baddest One Chick Hit Squad
Pamela Suzette Grier was born on May 26TH, 1949 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Sylvia
Samuels, a nurse, and Clarence Ransom Grier, a mechanic and Technical Sergeant in the US Air
Force. She moved frequently throughout her childhood due to her father s military career, but
the family eventually settled in Denver, where she attended both secondary school and college.
In order to raise money for tuition for her sophomore year, Grier entered several beauty pageants
around the state and even earned second runner up in the 1967 Miss Colorado Pageant it was
there that she was discovered by an agent who urged her to take up acting and she quickly moved
to Los Angeles with her aunt and cousin, Rosey Grier, a pro football player and actor, in 1968 to
pursue a career.
Pam worked several jobs upon her arrival in Los Angeles, but it was a receptionist job with
American International Pictures that led to her discovery by director Jack Hill, who cast her in
his women in prison films The Big Doll House (1971) and The Big Bird Cage (1972). (Shortly
before that, she was also given a role in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, a film released in 1970
that was written by Roger Ebert and directed by Russ Meyer, but her part was small and allowed
for limited screen time. Her breakout role was in Coffy, Jack Hill s Blaxplotation film about a
nurse and vigilante, played by Grier, who seeks revenge on the drug dealers who lured her sister
into a life of debauchery. Her character was lauded as baddest one chick hit squad that ever hit
town! and despite the film s sexual and violent elements, it was a box office hit. Grier was the
first African American female to headline an action film and she is credited as the woman who
paved the way for current female actions stars like Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron, and more
specifically the new wave of black female action heroes like Taraji P. Henson, who plays a kick
ass hit woman who s dressed to kill in Proud Mary. Throughout the 1970s, she played the lead in
several other Blaxploitation films produced by AIP like Foxy Brown (1974), Sheba Baby, and
Friday Foster (which were both released in 1975.)
In the late 1970s, the

Effects Of Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism
When entering the field of social work, a person should understand the effects of alcohol, not only
on an individual, but also the effects on the families. Alcohol is one of the many substances that
people use and abuse. Since alcohol is legal for any one over the age of twenty one, many people
begin drinking and then develop an addictionto the substance (Goldberg, 2016). Alcoholismeffects
people of all ages, background, social status, or ethnic group (National Institute on Drug Abuse,
2016). A social worker should understand how to assess and intervene families who are struggling
with alcohol addiction in a way that is both ethical and culturally competent (National Institute on
Alcohol Abuseand Alcoholism, 2005). The main goal for a social worker is to promote well
being and help provide the basic needs of all people (National Association of Social Workers,
2008). To begin, a social worker must first assess the situation that is before them and collect as
much information as possible. Several questions need to be asked to either the family or the
person who has alcoholism. For example, on average, how many days a week does the person
consume alcohol? On those days, how many alcoholic beverages are consumed? In the last thirty
days how many times have you had more than four alcoholic beverages? These questions need to
be asked first because a social worker needs to know how severe the problem is (National Institute
on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2005). In some cases

Affluenza Case Study Psychology
Affluenza: From the Utilitarian Approach and the Moral Brain In society, there are always going
to be different opinions and controversial topics that cannot be avoided. Morality is one of these
topics because there will never be a solid answer to whether or not something is moral due to
everyone having their own perspectives. Moralitycan be defined in many different ways. The
Utilitarian approach and neuroscience are two of the many ways morality can be thought of. A case

Dances With Wolves Essay
Dances With Wolves
No matter how you choose to categorize human beings, whether by race or religion, nationality or
gender, the resultant categories will display at least one immutable constant. Each group, no matter
how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful
natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film Dances With Wolves, we are
exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war America, the white man and
the Native American. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group
contains honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however,
exposed to behaviors which are in opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, compassionate, thinking white men are definitely in the minority in this film.
When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his reappearance.
The officer who gives John the information about getting to his new post appears to be downright
insane and apparently kills himself. The guide who accompanies John to his post is also no prize.
John refers to him as the foulest man alive (Dances with Wolves). This constant exposure to the
violent and crude men who make up the white race is an effective first step in shifting our
sympathies. We want to distance ourselves from these shameful characters. We don t want to
identify with them.
Our first exposure to Indians is a mere suggestion of the expected stereotype. We are shown a
skeleton on the ground with an arrow stuck through it. So far so good. We are accustomed to that
image. Dunbar s guide states that Indians are nothin but thieves and beggars and that you only
want to see them when they are dead (Dances with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary
man that it s not ironic at all to hear him degrading someone else.
From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow ugly
Americans. When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in a hurry to be away.
He is nervous and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving without accomplishing what he was
sent to do.

The Chemical Traces Of A Beer And The Artist Of Its...
Humans have been trying to get a buzz for centuries. Molecular archeologist Patrick McGovern
believes fermentation of yeast was discovered nearly 9,000 years ago after he uncovered chemical
traces of a fermented beverage found seeped into the porous clay of ancient pottery. It is safe to say
that the brewingindustry is as old as civilization itself and over time humans have been able to be
creative with the process and produce variations of beerrecipes. Drinking a beer can be defined as
an experience involving the presentation of its storage along with the beverage itself. Consumers
can appreciate both the artist of the individualized concoction of the beer and the artist of its
container or vessel. These two components of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wort is then brought to a boil, only recent in todays world, and hops are introduced where
they can break down and add different flavoring to the beer by releasing oils. The wort cools
down and yeast is then added for fermentation to begin. The yeast breaks down the sugars from
the mash and releases alcohol and carbon dioxide into the mixture. At this point in the brewing
process, brewer can decide to brew an ale or a lager, and choose the correct yeast according to that
decision. As the yeast finishes up its job, it begins to settle at the bottom of the fermentation vessel,
leaving the final beer product (Quinn).
Fig. 1
Since the beginning of fermentation history, potters and brewers have been linked by the beer
market. Beer is a product of water, malt, and yeast and fermentation. Fermentation is fundamental
in brewing because it gives beer its carbonation and alcohol content, so it is no wonder people
began creating vessels, or amphorae, with a functional use suited for this chemical reaction. In
Figure 1, amphorae that are shown generally had a specific shape with a tall narrow body and
cylindrical neck, enabling beer to ferment due to yeast breaking down sugar into alcohol in a
cyclical movement inside (Cartwright, 2013). Both artists felt the impact of globalization in pre
modern period with two major inventions: the wheel and writing. Writing helped with
communication between far away places and connect people at a faster pace by

others for the challenges you face (Mayo Clinic). Personality disorders usually begin in the
teenage years or early adulthood (Mayo Clinic). There are many types of personality disorders.
Some types may become less obvious throughout middle age (Mayo Clinic). The most common
types of personality disorders are divided into three clusters. Many people with one personality

Individuality In The Wall
In 1977, while on the Flesh Tour with Pink Floyd, Roger Waters conceived and wrote the elegant
rock opera, The Wall. His motivation for doing so was an increased distaste for the crassness of
the audiences during the tour. Waters himself attests that the album is fundamentally anti war, but
also claims that it is an elaborate allegory for the metaphorical wall he felt society was building for
itself. On several occasions, Waters has stated that he has often felt disconnected with the audiences
of his shows as if there were a wall separating him from them. American society has placed an
increasing emphasis on individuality since the turn of the century. Throughout The Wall, Rogers
revisits this sense of hyper individuality with an isolationist and elitist attitude of mine is better than
yours, but you cannot share mine. Individuality is the crux of the postmodern world and Rogers
embraces it as a groundbreaking artist while rejecting its notion in society creating a profound
paradox.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of The Wall is of protagonist, Pink, supposedly a character loosely based off of Pink Floyd
s late front man, Syd Barret and Roger Waters, himself. In the 53 song journey, Pink is born,
abused by the universe and in the last song, Run Like Hell, Pink solidifies his fate with placing
the final brick in the wall he has been building around himself his entire existence. While Pink is
merely a product of the cruel environment he was brought up in, his isolationism becomes his
poison. With the last brick in his wall, Pink has lost everything including his sanity and his once
beloved wife. Waters here references that when one separates themselves from the rest of the world,
whether it be fear, distrust, hatred, or intolerance, more harm is being done than good. The
consequences for society that behaves in this fashion are

Enlightenment And The Scientific Revolution
Thirty Years War and Scientific Revolution were two major causes that led to the developing of a
new intellectual and philosophical movement called Enlightenment, or the Age of Reason.
Religion, power of human reason, natural law, individualism, hope, progress and many other
concepts were combined into a worldview that contributed to new innovations and changed people
s lives and visions. This period marked the importance of science. By using the scientific method,
people were able to make progress toward a better society.
One of the main characteristics of Enlightenment was reason, which was considered by
philosophers the most significant human aptitude. All ideas and opinions are supported by a
specific reason. Logical arguments were successfully used in science, mathematics, biology,
politics, arts. The use of rationality influenced the appearance of different moral values responsible
for a person s behavior or principles of artistic taste, called ethics and aesthetics.
Isaac Newton had a great impact on eighteenth century intellectuals such as Voltaire, Montesquieu,
Diderot, Smith and others. They believed that Isaac Newton s scientific methods could be used in

Vertical Merger Essay
1.Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another
company that offers the same or similar product lines and services to the final consumers, which
means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case,
are usually direct competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with
another company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as horizontal
merger. The benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the
company to increase its market share, revenues and profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of
scale due to increase in size as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of
merger also encourage cost efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the
operations i.e. various administrative departments or departments such as advertising, purchasing
and marketing.

Vertical Mergers: A vertical merger is done with an aim to combine two companies that are in
the same value chain of producing the same good and service, but the only difference is the
stage of production at which they are operating. For example, if a clothing store takes over a
textile factory, this would be termed as vertical merger, since the industry is same, i.e. clothing,
but the stage of production is different: one firm is works in territory sector, while the other
works in secondary sector. These kinds of merger are usually undertaken to secure supply of
essential goods, and avoid disruption in supply, since in the case of our example, the clothing
store would be rest assured that clothes will be provided by the textile factory. It is also done to
restrict supply to competitors, hence a greater market share, revenues and profits. Vertical mergers
also offer cost saving and a higher margin of profit, since manufacturer s share is

  • 2. Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral The central concept of Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals is the categorical imperative. The conception of an objective principle, in so far as it is obligatory for a will, is called a command (of reason), and the formula of the command is called an Imperative. (Abbott, 30) An imperative is something that a will ought or shall do because the will is obligated to act in the manner in which it conforms with moral law. The categorical imperative is an obligation by the will to act so that the action can be classified as a universal law. When one acts in conformity with the universal law at all times, they are following out the categorical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The action of killing oneself would cause pain, which is not in conformity to the maxim stated to avoid pain. The second example Kant gives is based on the basic premise of lying. A man is forced to borrow money which he knows he will never be able to repay but he promises to do so anyway. This action is not consistent with duty and the maxim could be expressed as: When I [the man] think myself in want of money, I will borrow money and promise to repay it, although I know that I never can do so. (Abbott, 39) The maxim cannot hold as a universal law because if everyone lied about promises, the promise itself would become impossible, and the end would be unattainable. Telling the truth is an end in itself. The third example is of a man who it bestowed a natural ability but does not use it to it s full extent. Kant sees this as not a categorical imperative because a rational being necessarily wills that he develop his skills for many possible reasons. Rational beings are an end in themselves, and if you do not better yourself, you are not serving yourself.(Abbott, 40) Lastly, the fourth man, in great prosperity, has a chance to help others in need and does not. This can be viewed as a workable universal law, but it cannot be willed as the good thing to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Utilitarianism Gay Marriage Gay Marriages I strongly agree with the legalization of the gay marriages in many of the societies even though it is a subject that elicits mixed reactions and opposition from some quarters. The utilitarianism approach that seeks to establish whether the end justifies the means can be applied whereby the benefits of such legalization and the disadvantages are compared. When gay marriages are legalized, the beneficiaries will include the gays, adopted children and the society as a whole. Opponents such include religion, which argues that marriage is a sacred institution to be shared between a man and woman and that marriage, should serve a higher purpose of reproduction. However, the opponents would not suffer in effect since they only claim ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of An Extraordinary Pair General Groves is the biggest S.O.B I have ever worked for. (Colonel Kenneth D. Nicholas, 121). General Groves is a man that is neutral and does not take no for an answer. Groves behavior such as, the way he treats others, holding all authority and responsibility, as well as the way he presents himself points to him being a successful autocratic leader. Autocratic leadership is a style where everything is centered on the boss meaning that they make decisions without consulting others and have little flexibility. He has exhibited little flexibility this throughout all the readings in An Extraordinary Pair by having high expectations of those around him. He abounds with energy and expects everyone to work as hard or even harder, than he does... (Colonel Kenneth D. Nicholas, 121). There have been multiple accounts of Groves emotional neutrality. Emotional Neutrality s the concept of removing emotions from decisions. At the beginning of An Extraordinary Pair both Groves and Oppenheimer were characterized as people who ...overcame personal differences to achieve their common purpose. (109). Groves himself has addressed his neutrality by stating My emotional graph is a straight line... (General Groves, Robert DeVore 119). This idea of having a lack of emotion has allowed Groves to not be surprised nor elated by the continued success of the project. The general opinion about Groves is that people saw him as a highly intelligent individual as well as someone who would not go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hundred year old oak trees take many years to grow tall; on the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no more to be said 1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life long work, Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada FamГlia, are a means to justify the extremely long time needed for the construction of the Sagrada FamГlia, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature in his designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple s eventual completion, as its construction has just passed 123 years,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the first stone was inscribed the words, Awaken indifferent hearts from their slumber. Exalt the faith. Promote charity. Invoke the Lord to have mercy on this country, and encourage by its Catholic roots to think, preach and practice virtue. 1 The first architect of the project, Francisco de Paula de Villar, originally designed the temple as a purely neo gothic structure. Less than a year into the project, the budget again played a role in the future of the Sagrada FamГlia, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned because he was not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation and Gaudi were equally excited to be working together on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a masterpiece they were destined to create. The Degree of Success of Reza Shah Pahlavi after the 1925 Coup A passionate but ruthless nationalist with little formal education, Reza Khan had a clear vision for Iran s transition to modernity often using Ataturk s Turkey as a model. Milani, Mohsen M. The Making of Iran s Islamic Revolution. Iran entered the interwar period in a troubled state. Iran s economy was devastated and its current ruler Ahmad Shah seemed to have little authority over his country as it was in effect governed by the ruling powers Britain and Russia. Then, with the support of the army, the British and the ulama, Reza Khan persuaded the Majlis to entrust the crown of the oldest monarchy on earth to (his) family [5] thus marking the beginning of the Pahlavi dynasty. Reza Khan, now firmly in power, began a period of rapid modernization. Modernization is defined as the process of changing the conditions of a society by forcing them to accept many of the attributes and conventions of the current century. This is exactly what the new shah tried to do, however his methods proved ineffective. The shah s reforms were on numerous occasions superficial and not successful. The shah based many of his ideals on his role model, Mustafa Kamal Attaturk. But he was less successful than Ataturk in forging a strong national ideology because Ataturk was able to control the mullahs and to find a place for them as well as for merchants and intellectuals in the new Turkey. He governed as an autocrat but also as a twentieth century politician. By contrast, Reza Shah ruled as a monarch, proving adept as centralization but not at delegation. What Is The Mood Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber In Ernest Hemingway s short story, ВЁThe Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,ВЁ readers learn about Francis character through the perspectives of other characters. Hemingway develops Francis character as a man full of shame, cowardice, and bravery by using multiple perspectives as he threads a negative tone throughout the story. Topic Sentence: A characteristic of Francis that is developed through the short storyis shamefulness. Example Wilson Perspective: Francis brings shame upon himself when he continually asks Wilson to not talk about the lion. Wilson furthers the shamefulness by saying ВЁI m a professional hunter. She brings shame and pain upon her husband by hinting to him that he was not the actual one that killed the lion. Margaret uses the lion hunt as a way to mentally bully and harm Francis as she has done in the past to show she is the one that controls their relationship. Transition sentence: The narrator also contributes to tell about and bring shamefulness into the life of Francis Macomber Evidence Narrator:Sometimes Hemingway uses the narrator to further develop characteristics, such as on page 1, The gun bearers had taken no part in the demonstration. Explanation: The gun bearers do not verbally bring shame into Francis life, however they do bring shame into his life by their actions. They brings shame to Francis because they know what really happened with the lion hunt. The gun bearers not congratulating him for the kill plays a major role in the story and the unmanliness Mr.Macomber experienced through his life. • 11. The Chart Of The Gantt Chart 1.Introduction Over the past decades there have been remarkably developments of techniques and methods for managers to cope with a wide variety forms of projects. And one of those techniques is the Gantt chart which is an exceptional tool for compiling a project schedule and visual evaluation of its performance. Furthermore, the chart allows managers to assess the current status of projects at any moment before proceeding to the direct management of the both single and multiple projects and their components. Thus, an application of the Gantt chart appears to be particularly practical in managing projects irrespective of their scope and field. By revealing the key principles of the Gantt charting, the following paper will attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Yakura (2002) and Dobson (1999) the chart was developed by Henry Gantt during the First World War, whereas Gido and Clements (1999) suggest that the beginning of the twentieth century was the date of creation. Since that period, although the Gantt chart, representing a timeline table with tasks crashed over period, is credited with a relatively simplicity, it is acknowledged as an enormously useful tool of planning projects (Dobson, 1999). Since the Gantt chart was first created, forms and components of the graph have been altered and interpreted in a distinctive way throughout the period. Although the incipience of computers has brought a progressive effect, the basis of the chart remains unchanged. Badiru (2009) defines the Gantt chart as an uncomplicated form of timeline to display amount of projected and actual work to be done in a given framework of time. As can be seen from Figure 1, the vertical axis presents all involved activities, while the timescale is designated along the horizontal axis over a calendar period. A distinctive feature of the chart is that it involves altogether separate individual tasks of a project, their duration and an arrangement of assigned activities. Moreover, as a project progresses, accomplished tasks can be seen as a result of indicated bars on the chart (Badiru, 2009). Interpreting the chart as a visually simple and clear project management tool Dobson (1999) points out that it permits to determine necessary labor force ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Exoticism In Carmen And Benjamin Britten s Death In Venice Ralph P. Locke s theory of musical exoticism takes form through a spectrum that ranges from pure musical exoticism to transcultural composing. However the main requirement of exoticism is the notion of conjuring up a specific place or group of people as being perceived as different from the audience culture. In terms of pure exoticism, the composer willingly incorporates exotic sounding elements in order to mark a specific group or place as foreign. Transcultural composing is the other facet of exoticism. It is different in that it is not intended to marginalize any exotic group, rather it is a mix of Western and non western styles. While both George Bizet s Carmen and Benjamin Brittens Death In Venice incorporate exoticism, they each take on an opposite form of exoticism. Bizet s use of stereotypical gypsy music, as well as the portrayal of Carmen, explicitly marginalize and construct Carmen as different. Carmen s lack of Spanish descent and her Gypsy ethnicity are constructed as different via musical and performative aspects of the opera. Within the exoticism framework, Bizet s carmen is an example of pure exoticism. In contrast, Britten s Death In Venice is an example of transcultural composing because the other being marginalized is homosexuality, which is an identity that Britten is apart of and is not exclusive to any one group. George Bizet s Carmen was an opera that followed a Gypsy woman named Carmen in Seville, Spain. Carmen was characterized as being a gypsy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese... Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export BehaviorsпјљDoes productivity counter the effect of institutional environment? We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes in one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space and region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firmmodel developed by Mayer and Melitz et al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment enhances firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms, but are reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of financial constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets the trade enhancing effects of institutional environment. I. This period dignified the the peak years of the market revolution that took the country from the fringe of the world economy to the brink of commercial greatness (Johnson and Wilentz, 6). The demographic transition was essentially a result of a decrease in chronic infectious diseases like tuberculosis, syphilis, diphtheria, measles, dysentery, and typhoid fever. The wage dispersion evidence suggests that the middle of the 19th century is an appropriate date for the start of modern convergence in the Atlantic economy. Today, only the U.S. has across the border migration rates anything like those recorded all over the converging Atlantic economy prior to the quotas. This reluctance of Stalin s led China to distrust the motives of the Soviet Union, espicially in the 1950 s when the USSR asked China to help North Korea in the Korean War. But, while it is easy to identify the earlier style by definite marks of recognition, this is not so simple in the case of Baroque. Baroque is considered to be one of the great periods of art history , and it is generally identified as being developed by Caravaggio, Gianlorenzo Bernini and Annibale Carracci. The Baroqueperiod developed in Europe in around 1600, and it can be seen partly as a reaction against the intricate and formulaic Mannerism that dominated the Late Renaissance. Nevertheless, to see Baroque as simply being a reaction against Renaissance ideals and norms is simplistic. Modern scholarship has identified within the Baroque clear signs of a return to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By synthesising these elements, I will establish how the Baroque can be distinguished from its precursors. The term Baroque , like many period designations, is not a complementary one. It had the connotation of meaning bizarre taste that does not follow the rules of the classical. This provides one basic definition of the Baroque; its contrast to classicism, despite the fact that Baroque was a reaction to, and an adaption of, the classical tradition. The word Baroque was a term employed by critics of a later period who fought against the tendencies of the seventeenth century, and wanted to hold them up to ridicule. Baroque really means... grotesque, and it was used by men who insisted that the forms of classical building should never have been used or combined except in the ways adopted by the Greeks and Romans... After the idealism of the Renaissance, and the slightly forced nature of Mannerism, Baroque above all reflected the religious tensions of the age notably the desire of the Catholic Church in Rome (as annunciated at the Council of Trent) to reassert itself in the wake of the Protestant Reformation. Thus, Baroque art became synonymous with the Catholic Counter Reformation. Baroque art in Catholic nations reflected the desire of Emperors and monarchs to strengthen their political position and glorify their own divine grandeur. By comparison, Baroque art in ... Sean McCabe, web designer, lettering guru, and successful entrepreneur says, Endurance is the price tag to achievement. In Farewell to Manzanar we see a motif of endurance conveyed through the symbolic characteristics of stones. Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston was put into relocation camps along with about 110,000 just because they were of Japanese descent. However throughout the story of her journey in Manzanarwe hear the Japanese saying, Shikata ga nai. Jeanne and many other people in the book say this, which roughly translates to, it cannot be helped. These people endured the imprisonment and injustice simply because they saw that it must be endured. The stone motif in the story screams out the idea that when faced with a challenge you must endure and let it sculpt you into the person you are. Throughout the book when the stone motif comes into play it has a strong connection to something a character experienced. These same people would find it hard to believe that the similarity between Gabriel Conroy from The Dead and J. Alfred Prufrock from the The Love song of J. Alfred Prufrock would be so uncanny. Gabriel and J. Alfred Prufrock are both very insecure, uncomfortable around women, and also pathetic. In today s society many have insecurities including, and not limited to, the way they look and the way their actions will be viewed by others. Gabriel Conroy from The Dead is insecure in more ways than one. In The Dead Gabriel s insecurity about whether or not he should include a quotation from Browning can be found when he thinks He would only make himself ridiculous (p.g.10 ) showing he is very insecure about what his peers will think of him for including the quotation. Gabriel can be shown to also have insecurities about his feelings No, it was not the moment yet. (pg. 65), showing him in the light of not being able to show or tell his feelings toward Gretta. Insecurity not only knocked on Gabriel s door, but it also has knocked on the door of J. Alfred Prufrock. In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Prufrock is being insecure about the way he looks. This can be seen when it says How his hair is growing thin! (line 41), and But how his arms and legs are thin! Just like every new generation, the Millennials have been endlessly criticized by older generations. This generation change has drawn more public attention than ever before, maybe because of the access to widespread information nowadays or maybe because this time, it s a bigger deal. Millennials aren t afraid to address this topic because they believe that they can change the world for the better. They want the judgements in communities and the criticisms in the workplace to stop. They want society to realize they are not so different from generations before, they are already transforming life as we know it, and that they will soon be the next generation of leaders and nothing can change that. • 31. A Common Understanding Of Weather Menace 1.What is fog? A common understanding of this weather menace must be established before delving into its dangers. Layman s terms suggest that fog is a low hovering cloud which limits the visibility at ground level in a wide variety of intensity. From personal experience, fog may prevent you from locating your own home, or may simply cause the air to feel moist. Fog forms when the difference between air temperature and dew point is generally less than 4 В°F. Fog begins to form when water vapor condenses into tiny liquid water droplets suspended in the air, usually also clinging to pollutants or naturally occurring particles (ex: dust, salt, etc.) Water vapor is added to the air by: wind convergence into areas of upward direction, precipitation, daytime heating which evaporates water from the surface of large bodies of water, oceans or wetlands; transpiration from plants, cool or dry air moving over warmer water, and lifting air over mountains. Think of fog as a lower rendition of the cloud form stratus; meaning it is a lower deck that occurs when a cool air mass is confined under a warm air mass. 2.Different types of fogs? So , with fairytale consistency, we shall begin at the beginning: On the very first page of Oz Baum actually states that his wish was to create a modern American fairy tale similar to the old time collections of the Grimm brothers. This artistic intention instantly problematises the text in the context of its generic status. It begs the question of whether a story can be a true fairytale if it is so informed by its natural predecessors which sprang almost spontaneously from ancient and anonymous sources. Baum writes with a scholarly knowledge of fairytales behind him. In fact he wrote a 1902 essay On the Fairytale. Fairytales have a vaguely documented chronology that potentially stretches back to thousands of years BC. They are sourced from myth, legend, the collective unconscious, rumour, tradition or abstractions from real events (Propp, xvii). Alcohol is one of the many substances that people use and abuse. Since alcohol is legal for any one over the age of twenty one, many people begin drinking and then develop an addictionto the substance (Goldberg, 2016). Alcoholismeffects people of all ages, background, social status, or ethnic group (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2016). The main goal for a social worker is to promote well being and help provide the basic needs of all people (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). To begin, a social worker must first assess the situation that is before them and collect as much information as possible. Several questions need to be asked to either the family or the person who has alcoholism. For example, on average, how many days a week does the person consume alcohol? On those days, how many alcoholic beverages are consumed? In the last thirty days how many times have you had more than four alcoholic beverages? These questions need to be asked first because a social worker needs to know how severe the problem is (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2005). In some cases ... It is safe to say that the brewingindustry is as old as civilization itself and over time humans have been able to be creative with the process and produce variations of beerrecipes. The wort is then brought to a boil, only recent in todays world, and hops are introduced where they can break down and add different flavoring to the beer by releasing oils. At this point in the brewing process, brewer can decide to brew an ale or a lager, and choose the correct yeast according to that decision. As the yeast finishes up its job, it begins to settle at the bottom of the fermentation vessel, leaving the final beer product (Quinn). On several occasions, Waters has stated that he has often felt disconnected with the audiences of his shows as if there were a wall separating him from them. American society has placed an increasing emphasis on individuality since the turn of the century. Throughout The Wall, Rogers revisits this sense of hyper individuality with an isolationist and elitist attitude of mine is better than yours, but you cannot share mine.
