Conventions of film posters and film magazine covers
1.
2. A singular Image covers the
entire poster
The title of the movie is BOLD
and clear
Director’s name
The film poster
helps to identify
the genre (Sci-Fi)
The main character is heavily
featured on the poster
Information on the Directors or the
Production Company is often displayed in a
billing block at the bottom of the poster
Close ups, vivid images and colours
are often used on film posters in
order to maximise it’s visual appeal.
Bright colours and dramatic images
also help the film poster to be more
eye-catching
Main actor(s)
name(s) displayed
‘Tag lines’ help audiences to
remember the film/associate
the film with certain things
The choice of font on a movie poster can play a
large part in conveying different genres to an
audience. Whilst ‘Avatar’ is blue, clear and
luminous (connoting extra-terrestrial life), ‘Fight
Club’ uses bold, italic, tighter writing - giving the
movie a violent and strong feel.

event in the movie
