3. It is evident that the overall theme of
the magazine consists of the colours –
Black, white and yellow. This is
typical of a magazine as it is meant to
contain only three key colours. All of
these colours are meant to harmoniously
interlink to that the magazine doesn’t
look messy and unprofessional. However,
on this magazine you can also see that
there is some red included. The red is
very subtle and minimal, this ensures
that attention is not taken away from
other key sections, for example the
selling points and the main image. As
the red is subtle when the audience do
see this colour they may be more
inclined to ponder over the red
sections longer because the red is
incongruous to the overall theme of the
4. It is evident from the size of the font
that the title of the magazine is ‘TOTAL
FILM’, this is known as the masthead. The
masthead is usually the largest text on
screen, this is shown in my conventional
research. The word ‘TOTAL’ is placed in
the top left hand of the letter ‘F’ in
‘FILM’. This is a unique way of
presenting the title and would prove more
memorable to an audience member for the
differing way it is presented in
comparison to other magazine titles. The
fact that the word film is spread across
the entire horizontal of the magazine,
makes it more eye catching, resulting in
the title standing out significantly over
the magazine. The big, white bold
lettering upon the black background also
aid the masthead in standing out.
Furthermore, on the masthead there is an
icon which reads ‘THE WORLD’S BEST MOVIE
REVIEWS’. As this icon is on the masthead
5. Daniel Craig is the protagonist of the film
‘SKYFALL’ which is the film being advertised on
this magazine. He is the central image on the
cover. The image is a long shot, the use of the
long shot allows the audience to see the
characters entire costume, in doing this, it
gives an insight to the audience member as to
not only what the film is about, but who this
person is. I can infer that the image has been
placed on top of the poster. In doing this it
gives the image a 3D feel which makes the image
stand out more. For my magazine cover, I aim to
do this because we feel as though it looks
professional and more creative.
An easily developed relationship is created
between the character and the audience, due to
the way in which the shot was taken. The
character is looking directly into the camera,
therefore because of this, it creates the
affect that the protagonist in the image is
directly looking at the audience.
6. This ‘Total Film’ magazine further
adheres to my conventional research as
it contains buzz words. It is important
that any form of advertisement contains
buzz words as they are one of the key
things that draw an audience in,
enticing them into purchasing the
magazine. Here are some of the
following buzz words including on the
front cover:
Each of the buzz words are different,
fonts, size and colour. They vary
because seeing different things attack
your visual sense, bombarding it with
7. This magazine has its barcode
positioned at the right hand
side, similar to some of the
Empire film magazines that I have
seen. From just looking and
researching where certain things
are positioned on a magazine, it
has appeared to me that the
barcode is an item that changes
position most. This is most
likely because of where it looks
best on the magazine. Having the
barcode fit in a good position,
in comparison to surrounding
items works better than having
the barcode in a certain
conventional placement. This is
