2. Ed Sheeran is a British singer/songwriter, with his
album ‘+’ being released on the 9th September 2011.
This album advert (unlike the others analyzed) created
a permanent stamp for this artist that would help him
to become well known by audiences……..
The colour ORANGE.
Due to the heavy use of orange in all his adverts for this
album, many people now connect this colour to the
artist which shows that branding has been successful,
but why was it such a success?
• Firstly, the colour connotes a ‘happy’ feel to it which
is likely to appeal to many people rather than a
niche audience.
• The colour is a memorable one due to it being quite
bright and stands out.
• But the most important connection is the fact that
the artist has ginger hair (something often mocked
at in society) so the colour firmly connects with this
and it is taking something unique and putting it out
there for everyone to see.
3. In this advert, Ed Sheeran is pictured smiling which represents the style of his
music. Although some of the songs feature dark topics such as drugs and
rejection, the artist tries to find happiness out of this and I believe the photo
connotes that well. Moreover this is something that most people can connect
to so straight away the artist has opened himself to a wider target audience.
His music is reflected accurately through the photo editing too. Here the image
has barely been manipulated and a sepia mask has been applied to the photo
which feels very vintage and simple. His music is much like this as the lyrics are
honest and there is nothing too over the top in his songs – very frequently it is
just his voice and a guitar.
4. Linking with this vintage feel is
the font which is that of a
typewriter. This further
represents the personality of
the artist and allows the
audience to feel connected to
him even more.
The text features only the important
details such as his name and album
name as too much text would ruin the
stylistic nature of this advert. A review is
present but this is only so the audience
can hear what others think of the album.
An image of the album itself is on the
advert too so people know what exactly
they are buying.
Overall, I feel as though this
particular advert wants to sell
the brand of Ed Sheeran rather
than the album as the most
obvious main feature is the
large photo of him and so we
are suppose to notice this first.
Although information about the
album is present, I think that
from this advert he wants to
become established first as an
artist rather than make a profit.
