also matches the braces he is wearing. The big black text
underneath this shows the name of the album and that it’s
‘out now’ which informs the reader that they can go and
purchase this product. The small font underneath says that
there is a no.1 single featured on the album which allows
the audience to be aware that the artist is popular and the
person reading may have heard this song, liked it and
wanted to buy the album to listen to similar songs by him.
Moreover, the mention of the featuring artists in this song
may attract a wider audience to buy the album as the
reader may enjoy the music of them and check out this
album too. The web address at the bottom of the page
allows the reader to go online to gain any extra information
about the album. The image is a massive part of the advert
as it takes up nearly half the page which shows off the
artists casual yet stylish outfit and how it fits in with the
colour scheme that the whole poster follows.
As a whole I really like this advert. It follows a simplistic colour scheme with a plain image and
background which allows the text to standout well without anyone having difficulty reading it. It’s a
pretty eye catching poster and the artist image and name are the first things that are noticeable
which is the clear selling point.
3. Lana Del Rey’s advertisement follows the typical
advert conventions. The artist name is featured at the
top in clear bold text, the artist image is a mid shot
with her looking straight at the camera with no
expression on her face and all the extra information is
located nearer the bottom of the advert in a smaller
font and different colour to her name. The colour
scheme of this advert allows it to look subtle yet give
out all the necessary information to the audience. The
background image was also used for the magazine
advert creating a direct link between the two. The blue
and white colours imply a summer vibe to the advert.
Blue connotes a sense of tranquillity that is expressed
through the artists posture and facial expression.
Additionally, the colour white suggest purity and
reinforces the nature theme that is being illustrated
through the background image. In terms of the text
both the artists and album name are conventional with
bold clear text allowing the artist and her album to
stand out well in a store. I believe that the italic, small
font at the bottom is unique yet fitting for the artist as it
is well associated with her. It highlights something
different about the artist and breaks her away from the
mainstream music. However, I do believe that this is a
little hard to read just because of how small it is.
Overall, I do really like this advert and think it suits well with the conventions of music adverts as a
whole due to the bold text and main artist image along with holding all the necessary information
although, I think that the blue writing at the bottom becomes a bit too small and even illegible for
some people.
4. This poster advert for Jessie J’s album ‘Who You
Are’ both follows the codes and conventions of a
typical music advertisement. The main artist image
takes up roughly two thirds of the poster with a
close-up which helps to sell the artist’s image to her
target audience. This image also makes the advert
feel more personal as the artist is staring straight at
the reader with her blue eyes which contrasts the
black, white and gold colour scheme. I believe that
the colour scheme suits Jessie J’s image well as
she’s known for having jet black hair and wearing
dark lipstick colours. Moreover, the gold stands out
from the heavy black tone allowing the artist name to
be noticeable from the start. The connotations of
black and gold could lead the audience to believe
this features songs that focus more on her rebellious
behaviour throughout life. The black box underneath
the image gives all the side information, like the Olly
Murs advert, it mentions about the no.1 international
smash song and who is featured within this song
which would attract a new audience to this album as
they could be fans of this featured artist. The
website address allows the audience to check out
more information and promotes any future music
that she may release as fans/audience members
may check this for regular updates.
As a whole I believe this advert works very well as it sticks to the traditional conventions of music
album adverts. The bold colour scheme gives a small incite into what the album may hold
alongside the featured artist and already internationally famous song included.
