1. Our version of events was released on 13th February 2012 by virgin records. The type of
typography used in this album cover is simple and formal. The text is spaced out and in capital
letters by doing this it makes it stand out more and making it more effective. The album name is
called ‘Our version of events’ this could suggest that Emeli has been through some events and she
expresses these through her version. On the other hand the album name also includes ‘our’ why
adding this text it allows the audience to feel involved as if they've been through the experiences
with Emeli. The artist also worked with different artist when creating through this album so
therefore the ‘our’ could suggest the team work that went on when creating the album. The main
main is of the artist Emeli Sande. A Medium shot is used when taking this image which allows us to
see just her upper body. Emeli is facing the back of the cameras shot and doesn’t really allow us to
see her facial expression this symbolizes the idea that she looking at her version of the events that
shes been through. This shot also allows us to see the style that Emeli has firstly, the dress that
shes wearing has flowers which represents the feminine side to Emeli but then again her hair style
doesn’t really fit into the representations has her hair is different to other women’s hair styles. This
suggest that Emeli is different and has some edginess side to her. Her body language convey that
she may be hiding some feelings which shes been through and the colours that are on the album
also reflects this idea as they are dark and dull. All this connotes sadness and depression but the
flowers could suggest that there are some sunny sides to her situations. From all this it gives an
idea of what the album may hold and what type of emotion is album has. The cover album
represents that its aimed at working class/upper class as it looks very formal and modern. The
album is aimed at both genders and also the audience that that album is aimed at is older but
teenagers would also relate to this album so therefore would also buy it. In my opinion I think this
album cover is successful. The album cover doesn’t give any every much information but then
again its very effective as it looks elegant and vintage also, EmelI’s body language makes me
wonder what kind of story is she
trying to
tell the audience.
The back cover is kept in the way style as the front album cover the only difference is that the
colour is different. The typography is kept the same with the spaced out capital letters all this is
done to keep the same theme running smoothly. Next to ‘read all about it’ you can see that its
part three but its written in a different way. This type of style is seen to be modern by doing
this is gives an idea to the audience of what type of music Emeli produces and what type of
style that she may have. The back album cover also includes the record label for the audience
to see which label Emeli is signed to and it also shown to portray all the part of making the
album successful and all the hard work they put into it. It would also appeal to the audience
who which are aware of label and would want to buy albums from the record label. The back
album cover doesn't include any image with would appeal to older audiences as it looks simple
and effective. The spine includes the artist name and the name of the album so that the
audience are aware of what album the songs are from. Also when the album is placed on the
shelf the spine would be seen so the audiences can clearly see what album it is. The production
details are placed at the bottom of the back cover album. The text is very small as its not as
important to the fans but it contains necessary information about legal matters, copyright
information and records labels. The barcode is also placed at the bottom. The most important
thing about the back cover is to promote the songs which are in the album so therefore the
2. The album ‘Ora’ by Rita Ora was released on 27th August 2012. Rita Ora called the album ORA as
‘Ora’ in Albania means time. Rita took her time creating this album so therefore called its ORA as
it took time and hard work to create. The A in Ora is like a triangle which is the symbol of the
record label Roc Nation. The artist name is in bold and in red making it stand out more from the
background as the main image is in black and white. The album title is at the bottom of the album
cover its on itself so therefore its more eye catching for the audience. The main image of Rita Ora
is a close up shot. This shot allows us to see her facial expressions and the type of make-up and
jewelry shes wearing. Firstly, this shot allows us to see that she wearing a big chain around her
neck. From this we can identify that shes part of the younger generations so the album is mostly
aimed at the younger audiences. The watch as well suggest that shes stylish and young but then
again it portrays her class as the watch looks expensive. From all these connotations is set a clear
representation of what type of audience the album is aimed at because of it makes the album
cover successful. In my opinion the album cover is successful and I would buy it as Rita Ora looks
young and fun because the main image gives any this kind of idea it would make the audience also
think that the music in the album are also are going to be fun and outgoing type of music.
The back cover of the album is more out going and involves more
information. Firstly the colour which are used all go with the theme of
the album. The names of the track are all in red which stand out as
that’s the most important thing about the back cover of the album. They
are also in capital letters making it more eye catching. The back cover
includes many different type of photographs of Rita Ora This allows the
audience to get close and personal with Rita Ora as you can see the type
of person that she is which would be seen through her music. The type
of picture that use of Rita Ora looks fun and out going just would appeal
to the young audience. They are also cut and placed in different shapes
showing the edginess of the artist. The spine of the back cover includes
the name of the artist and the album name. This is done so that when
the album is placed on the shelf the audience would be able to see the
album. It also includes the record label as they also are important part
of the album. The barcode on the bottom of there album. There are also
small information at the bottom which isn't really big as it not important
to the fans but has to be on the album for legal reasons.
3. I AM… Sasha Fierce album by Beyonce was release on
November 14th 2008. This album cover is very simple
album cover. The main image is a medium close up
shot is used. This shot allows the audience to see
Beyonce’s facial expressions. Beyonce doesn’t look like
she wearing much make-up and if so it seems like shes
wear node make-up. By doing this it shows Beyonce’s
natural side and it sends a message to her fans that
make-up isn't really needed. Also, her hair isn't done
again conveying the ideal that natural is what Beyonce
likes. Furthermore, beyonce doesn’t show much in this
image this suggest that her fans should focus on her
music rather than her as the music is the important
thing about releasing a album. The typography on both
text is used the same way. The album name ‘I Am’ is on
the bottom right hand side this grabs the audience
attention more. The artist name is on the bottom left
hand side give is bigger than the album name this may
suggest that Beyonce worked hard on this album so
therefore her name should stand out more. On top of
her name her bracelet of the cross this clearly states
that beyonce is a religions person because of this she
would gather more fans. This also suggests that
Beyonce is a women who is soulful and peaceful. The
camera shot shows that shes naked from this it would
also appeal to men as they would be attracted to this.
