2. It is important to keep an album cover
simple and attractive, this will draw
audiences in and matches the conventions
of reflecting the genre and star image of the
artist.
My digipak uses the conventions of a pop
music album cover through the eye
catching, bright colours. It uses a red and
yellow theme which are both colours that
attract young teenagers. The disorientating
background of the cover creates an
interesting effect that allows the main part
(Ironman) stand out. The song we created a
video for is the main song on the album and
therefore is the first song on the track and is
represented on the cover, this is also why
there is not an image of our artist on the
cover, despite him being a synthetic artist.
3. I matched the conventions for font on my album cover.
Through research I found that a simple, bold font was ideal
for an album cover. Block, stand-out words catch people’s
eyes. This Olly Murs album cover shows that Olly is a
synthetic artist, this is obvious because his name is in
large, colourful, capital letters, while the album name is a
lot smaller in comparison and written in white, the cover is
selling Olly as a person instead of an artist. This is an
example of why I used obvious colours and an unfocused
background to set the words on. I wrote ‘Connor James’ on
the cover twice to make it more visible.
I used the same font throughout the cover to give it a
uniform look, this is another convention that I matched.
4. Bright and vibrant colours are very
important in an album cover. They portray
the liveliness of the artist and tell audiences
a lot about what genre the album is. The
colours used on the digipak keep in theme
with the music video and website to tie all
products together. I used the colours red and
yellow to encompass the ironman theme
which is the main aspect of the album. I
didn’t add in other colours because I
thought it would make the album cover too
busy.
One direction have also used bright colours
in their album cover to represent them as a
band.
5. Although our artist is synthetic we like
the idea of him having an organic edge.
Therefore for this album we decided to
represent the ironman character and
follow the colour scheme to match
ironman throughout the digipak. The
inside cover shows to pictures of
Connor James. He set against a black
background to contrast and is wearing a
normal, plain t-shirt and jeans. This look
seems to work well for similar artists
and is admired by their fans. It shows
the audience that Connor is a normal,
young guy, this makes him easier to
connect and relate to for girls and boys.
