Colour
On this magazine cover the creator has
mainly used the colours red, white and a
sort of purple effect on top of the whole
picture giving it a darker tone. This makes
the characters on the front seem more
menacing and powerful, this is good for
selling the magazine because this can
have an effect on the reader. For example
if the characters seem more menacing
then the higher the chances people will
be interested and will want to find out
more. However they may have also used
this colour because the picture in the
background is of a game called Sea of
Thieves. This means that they have used
this dark tone to represent that these
characters are criminals.
Information
On the this magazine cover the creator
has also added a list of what topics are
highlighted and talked about mainly in
the magazine. This allows the audience to
see what is inside before actually buying
the product and might potentially make
people more likely to buy it. For example
on this magazine if people didn’t like sea
of thieves and they didn’t have the list in
the bottom left they might not buy it
because they think all it will be about is
sea of thieves however because there is
the list they might buy it because they
know that there is something else they
like in the magazine.
Font
The creator has used a large and bold font when making the title of the magazine company however
when putting the title of the game in the background they have used the font that the developers of
the game have made. This mixture of fonts will most likely make the magazine more appealing,
interesting and overall just help to get the audiences attention. The sea of thieves title is also very
scruffy and is hand written, this matches with the theme of the game and characters because
pirates were authentically scruffy.
Effects
On this magazine cover you can see that the creator has added a sort of lighting effect to add more
of a dramatic feel when looking at it. You can see this effect the most when looking at the lantern or
looing below the Sea of Thieves title where it is a lot darker then above. This helps to add to the
theme of the game and make the magazine look more attractive to the audience.
Characters/props
The characters on this magazine cover are
wearing and holding props that help resemble
the game that is being advertised (Sea Of
Thieves) for example two of the characters have
tattoos of skulls and flintlock pistols. The skull
tattoos give the audience the idea of the
characters being dangerous which helps to
increase the pirate theme. While the lantern
and flintlock pistol props help the audience
understand what era this game time place in
which also helps to understand what the
characters might be like because people dressed
like this in that era where often dangerous or
most likely pirates.
Existing Product Colors/lighting
The designer of this shirt has only used two
colors, yellow and black. Although there aren’t a
lot of colors these two colors still have a large
effect on the shirt. For example because the
yellow is surrounded by black it looks bolder and
stand out more. The yellow also gives the idea of
warning and danger this makes sense because
the t-shirt is based off a dangerous alien out of
the Alien vs Predator franchise. The colors and
lighting for the shirt also allow the text on the
shirt to stand out more and have more of a
chance to be noticed by the audience.
Effects/Fonts
The designer for this shirt has made
certain peace's of text bolder and larger
then others. For example he/she has
made the word “WARNING” the largest
peace of text on the shirt, this not only
goes with the idea of making a warning
sign for the shirt but it also helps to get
peoples attention because of the interest
created by the word warning. This might
make someone who is just passing
through stop to look at the shirt because
they're curious to what the warning is
about, this also adds kind of a more
powerful aspect to the shirt and a larger
effect to the person who sees it.
Existing Product
Color/theme
The audience can immediately tell
from the background and what is
happening on the cover that this
game is an action adventure game,
this means that the creator has
straight away made it clear what type
of theme the game he is talking about
is and possibly the content he/she will
be talking about. The creator has also
stuck with using bright colors and play
stations signature blue and white
color scheme while also adding the
games color scheme of red, white and
gray. This helps to add to the variety
of design on the cover page which
helps to make it stand out form other
competitors and more likely to be
seen by their target audience.
However they have also used the
contrast of light and dark colors in the
background to represent the idea of
good vs the bad or possibly the
danger your character faces in the
game.
Font/Effects
On this magazine cover there has been a range of fonts used for different things. For example we have the PlayStations signature font, the
Uncharted signature font and the regular font that is used for regular information scattered around the cover of the magazine. The PlayStation
font symbolizes that this magazine is made by the large company PlayStation, this means that the audience will find the magazine more
trustworthy and professional because it has been made by such a large and successful business. The Uncharted font allows the magazine to
stand out more, inform the audience what the main topic is and add to the theme and background making the cover have a larger effect on the
audience while also being the first thing on the page that the audience notices because of the size and style. The regular font gives the audience
information on subjects such as special offers, deals, advertisements for other products etc. But while doing so it doesn’t take any attention
away from the most important features such as the main Uncharted title and the PlayStation brand name.
Character/Props /Images
The character on the cover has a grappling hook.
This gives the audience the idea of adventure
where as the bullets being fired and the
characters holstered guns in the image give the
idea of danger and action. This allows the
audience to determine what genre the game is
without even needing to read a single peace of
information. The creator of this magazine cover
has also added images of other products such as
the PlayStation VR and another popular game
called Hitman. This may help to attract different
types of audiences to the magazine helping the
creator to make a bigger profit.

Font/Effects
On this double page spread the creator has used a range of fonts and effects to make it more appealing to the audience while also stand out
more to help get their attention in the first place. For example the creator has used a simple yet cartoon type font for the main title this might
not very appealing or professional to the audience however the creator has added a gradient and made the writing some what 3D this helps to
make it look like it was made by a professional company making it more appealing overall. The gradient also helps to match the color scheme
and style of the game while also standing out over everything, this means that when you first look at the page the first thing your eyes focus on
is the main title and introduction text that is in a same colored text box. On the double page spread we can also see that the creator has made
the text boxes with reviews in 3D and made the text inside bolder then other text on the page, this helps to not only be more appealing to the
audience but it adds more of a variety of style to the magazine. The creator has made the pictures on the double page spread faded so that you
can see them but they don’t take the attention away form the information.
Character
The creator has put the main
character in the center of the
page. This makes it clear on
what the magazine is about
while also making the character
easy to recognize from people
who walk past. The main
character has also been made
sort o 3D to make the page look
more interesting to the
audience and as if the character
is jumping out of the page.
Color/theme
This magazine double page spread
has used an arcade sort of theme.
This could be because of the era
this was created in or this could
be because they are reviewing a
arcade type game. The creator of
this double page spread has also
used a range of colors, this not
only helps to the arcade type
theme because of the fact that
they often have a wide range of
colors and effects when playing
but it helps to make the whole
page stand out more. The fact that
there are different colors for
different sections of information
means that specific things will
stick out to the reader, for
example when you look at the
green colored text boxes your
eyes focus on only the the green
ones without you even noticing.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?- They all have a colour scheme that helps represent the theme or that helps to
add a bigger effect to other things on the cover to make the magazine cover seem more appealing and noticeable. We can
see this how the “Sea Of Thieves” magazine has used mostly dark and bold colours to make the characters more
intimidating, the “Uncharted” magazine has used a mixture of dark and light colours to represent how in the game there is
the good vs the bad and to help the theme of adventure/wonder, the “Wagan Land” magazine has used colours to help the
theme of being a arcade type of game with a cartoon style and the Alien Vs Predator shirt has used a colour scheme that is
simple but still has a large effect and sticks to the idea of the shirt trying to be a warning and nothing else. The different
creators have also used a range of different fonts which all have a different role, different effects on the reader and different
ways of making the magazine more attractive for their target audience.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?- I will include the idea of using a range of different fonts to make
my magazine more unique and different from other competitors on the market, to allow my product to have a bigger effect
on the reader such as making it more appealing to them and making specific features stand out more then others. I will also
include the idea of making sure my colour scheme has a large role in my design and making sure my colour scheme
represents the topics I will be talking about and the tone of them while also being appealing to my target audience of 15-19
year old males and female gamers

Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range

• I will make sure that my product has an equal amount of
information and images along with making sure that the
appearance of my product is professional and appealing
because this target audience cares about looks more
then any other feature.
Gender
Primary-male
Secondary-female

think that the topics I will be talking about will be more
appealing to them
Psychographic
I think that my
magazine specifically
suits teenagers round
the age of 16-19
• I think my product will appeal to a very large amount of
different people, however I think that it will appeal to
this part of the audience the most because the majority
of gamers are round this age.
Social Status
Middle class • I think that my product will mostly appeal to this social
class because people in this social class often have
products that are similar to mine or have products that
are of the same topic e.g. Xbox, Ps4 and pc. I also think
that this product will appeal to this audience the most
because this target audience in this social class have the
most time to use this sort of product/ones similar to it
meaning that they will be more likely to buy it.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each
method
– Product Research-to do my product research I went onto the internet and looked at existing products
that were similar to the product that I wanted to make and then analysed them to see what makes
them attractive, what methods they have used, the design ideas they have done, etc. I think the
strengths of my product research is that I have looked at a range of different products which gave me
a range of different ideas and techniques to use when making my product (however I made sure that
there was no possibility of my product getting sued for copy right). Although I think the weaknesses
of my product research is that I focused some of my work time on analysing a T-shirt design rather
then other magazine designs. I think that this is a weakness because it meant that I used useful time
on doing something that I ended up not using at all.
– Questionnaires-I conducted my Questionnaires by going onto a website called survey monkey and
creating a ten question survey. I then put it somewhere my target audience would be able to do it (in
this case on blackboard on the York college website) and waited for the results. I think the strengths
of my Questionnaire is that I have used a range of different questions which will help me to get a
range of different answers. This will overall give me more and better ideas to use when designing my
product. However I think the weaknesses of my Questionnaires is that on some questions the
audience only had a choice of four options and some of them did not have the answer “other”. This
could make my results in accurate because the answer the audience wants to choose is not there,
which will force them to just pick an answer at random overall making my results less accurate and
possibly making my final product less attractive.
– Interviews- to do my interviews I talked to two people who are in my target audience and asked
them what they look for in the magazines they read. The strengths of my interviews is that I have
talked to two people who are specifically in my target audience, this is a strength because it means I
can make sure that my product has all the features that make it appealing to my target audience.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
– I got quite a large response that consisted of more males then females and
consisted of mostly people round the age of 17 or younger rather then
anything else. My response was good and gave me a range of information on
how to make my product more appealing to my target audience and what
they like to see in the magazines they read.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
– I distributed my survey by putting a link to it on blackboard on the York college
website. The advantages of this is that a large amount of people will see the
survey/possibly do it. This should mean that I get a large response from my
target audience however the disadvantage is that this is not certain and I
could possibly get a large response from people who are not in my target
audience.

2. fmp research

  • 2. Existing Product Colour On this magazine cover the creator has mainly used the colours red, white and a sort of purple effect on top of the whole picture giving it a darker tone. This makes the characters on the front seem more menacing and powerful, this is good for selling the magazine because this can have an effect on the reader. For example if the characters seem more menacing then the higher the chances people will be interested and will want to find out more. However they may have also used this colour because the picture in the background is of a game called Sea of Thieves. This means that they have used this dark tone to represent that these characters are criminals. Information On the this magazine cover the creator has also added a list of what topics are highlighted and talked about mainly in the magazine. This allows the audience to see what is inside before actually buying the product and might potentially make people more likely to buy it. For example on this magazine if people didn’t like sea of thieves and they didn’t have the list in the bottom left they might not buy it because they think all it will be about is sea of thieves however because there is the list they might buy it because they know that there is something else they like in the magazine. Font The creator has used a large and bold font when making the title of the magazine company however when putting the title of the game in the background they have used the font that the developers of the game have made. This mixture of fonts will most likely make the magazine more appealing, interesting and overall just help to get the audiences attention. The sea of thieves title is also very scruffy and is hand written, this matches with the theme of the game and characters because pirates were authentically scruffy. Effects On this magazine cover you can see that the creator has added a sort of lighting effect to add more of a dramatic feel when looking at it. You can see this effect the most when looking at the lantern or looing below the Sea of Thieves title where it is a lot darker then above. This helps to add to the theme of the game and make the magazine look more attractive to the audience. Characters/props The characters on this magazine cover are wearing and holding props that help resemble the game that is being advertised (Sea Of Thieves) for example two of the characters have tattoos of skulls and flintlock pistols. The skull tattoos give the audience the idea of the characters being dangerous which helps to increase the pirate theme. While the lantern and flintlock pistol props help the audience understand what era this game time place in which also helps to understand what the characters might be like because people dressed like this in that era where often dangerous or most likely pirates.
  • 3. Existing Product Colors/lighting The designer of this shirt has only used two colors, yellow and black. Although there aren’t a lot of colors these two colors still have a large effect on the shirt. For example because the yellow is surrounded by black it looks bolder and stand out more. The yellow also gives the idea of warning and danger this makes sense because the t-shirt is based off a dangerous alien out of the Alien vs Predator franchise. The colors and lighting for the shirt also allow the text on the shirt to stand out more and have more of a chance to be noticed by the audience. Effects/Fonts The designer for this shirt has made certain peace's of text bolder and larger then others. For example he/she has made the word “WARNING” the largest peace of text on the shirt, this not only goes with the idea of making a warning sign for the shirt but it also helps to get peoples attention because of the interest created by the word warning. This might make someone who is just passing through stop to look at the shirt because they're curious to what the warning is about, this also adds kind of a more powerful aspect to the shirt and a larger effect to the person who sees it.
  • 4. Existing Product Color/theme The audience can immediately tell from the background and what is happening on the cover that this game is an action adventure game, this means that the creator has straight away made it clear what type of theme the game he is talking about is and possibly the content he/she will be talking about. The creator has also stuck with using bright colors and play stations signature blue and white color scheme while also adding the games color scheme of red, white and gray. This helps to add to the variety of design on the cover page which helps to make it stand out form other competitors and more likely to be seen by their target audience. However they have also used the contrast of light and dark colors in the background to represent the idea of good vs the bad or possibly the danger your character faces in the game. Font/Effects On this magazine cover there has been a range of fonts used for different things. For example we have the PlayStations signature font, the Uncharted signature font and the regular font that is used for regular information scattered around the cover of the magazine. The PlayStation font symbolizes that this magazine is made by the large company PlayStation, this means that the audience will find the magazine more trustworthy and professional because it has been made by such a large and successful business. The Uncharted font allows the magazine to stand out more, inform the audience what the main topic is and add to the theme and background making the cover have a larger effect on the audience while also being the first thing on the page that the audience notices because of the size and style. The regular font gives the audience information on subjects such as special offers, deals, advertisements for other products etc. But while doing so it doesn’t take any attention away from the most important features such as the main Uncharted title and the PlayStation brand name. Character/Props /Images The character on the cover has a grappling hook. This gives the audience the idea of adventure where as the bullets being fired and the characters holstered guns in the image give the idea of danger and action. This allows the audience to determine what genre the game is without even needing to read a single peace of information. The creator of this magazine cover has also added images of other products such as the PlayStation VR and another popular game called Hitman. This may help to attract different types of audiences to the magazine helping the creator to make a bigger profit.
  • 5. Existing Product Font/Effects On this double page spread the creator has used a range of fonts and effects to make it more appealing to the audience while also stand out more to help get their attention in the first place. For example the creator has used a simple yet cartoon type font for the main title this might not very appealing or professional to the audience however the creator has added a gradient and made the writing some what 3D this helps to make it look like it was made by a professional company making it more appealing overall. The gradient also helps to match the color scheme and style of the game while also standing out over everything, this means that when you first look at the page the first thing your eyes focus on is the main title and introduction text that is in a same colored text box. On the double page spread we can also see that the creator has made the text boxes with reviews in 3D and made the text inside bolder then other text on the page, this helps to not only be more appealing to the audience but it adds more of a variety of style to the magazine. The creator has made the pictures on the double page spread faded so that you can see them but they don’t take the attention away form the information. Character The creator has put the main character in the center of the page. This makes it clear on what the magazine is about while also making the character easy to recognize from people who walk past. The main character has also been made sort o 3D to make the page look more interesting to the audience and as if the character is jumping out of the page. Color/theme This magazine double page spread has used an arcade sort of theme. This could be because of the era this was created in or this could be because they are reviewing a arcade type game. The creator of this double page spread has also used a range of colors, this not only helps to the arcade type theme because of the fact that they often have a wide range of colors and effects when playing but it helps to make the whole page stand out more. The fact that there are different colors for different sections of information means that specific things will stick out to the reader, for example when you look at the green colored text boxes your eyes focus on only the the green ones without you even noticing.
  • 6. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have?- They all have a colour scheme that helps represent the theme or that helps to add a bigger effect to other things on the cover to make the magazine cover seem more appealing and noticeable. We can see this how the “Sea Of Thieves” magazine has used mostly dark and bold colours to make the characters more intimidating, the “Uncharted” magazine has used a mixture of dark and light colours to represent how in the game there is the good vs the bad and to help the theme of adventure/wonder, the “Wagan Land” magazine has used colours to help the theme of being a arcade type of game with a cartoon style and the Alien Vs Predator shirt has used a colour scheme that is simple but still has a large effect and sticks to the idea of the shirt trying to be a warning and nothing else. The different creators have also used a range of different fonts which all have a different role, different effects on the reader and different ways of making the magazine more attractive for their target audience. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?- I will include the idea of using a range of different fonts to make my magazine more unique and different from other competitors on the market, to allow my product to have a bigger effect on the reader such as making it more appealing to them and making specific features stand out more then others. Gender Primary-male Secondary-female • I have chosen to target a mainly male audience because I think that the topics I will be talking about will be more appealing to them Psychographic I think that my magazine specifically suits teenagers round the age of 16-19 • I think my product will appeal to a very large amount of different people, however I think that it will appeal to this part of the audience the most because the majority of gamers are round this age. Social Status Middle class • I think that my product will mostly appeal to this social class because people in this social class often have products that are similar to mine or have products that are of the same topic e.g. Xbox, Ps4 and pc. I also think that this product will appeal to this audience the most because this target audience in this social class have the most time to use this sort of product/ones similar to it meaning that they will be more likely to buy it.
  • 25. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research-to do my product research I went onto the internet and looked at existing products that were similar to the product that I wanted to make and then analysed them to see what makes them attractive, what methods they have used, the design ideas they have done, etc. I think the strengths of my product research is that I have looked at a range of different products which gave me a range of different ideas and techniques to use when making my product (however I made sure that there was no possibility of my product getting sued for copy right). Although I think the weaknesses of my product research is that I focused some of my work time on analysing a T-shirt design rather then other magazine designs. I think that this is a weakness because it meant that I used useful time on doing something that I ended up not using at all. – Questionnaires-I conducted my Questionnaires by going onto a website called survey monkey and creating a ten question survey. I then put it somewhere my target audience would be able to do it (in this case on blackboard on the York college website) and waited for the results. I think the strengths of my Questionnaire is that I have used a range of different questions which will help me to get a range of different answers. This will overall give me more and better ideas to use when designing my product. However I think the weaknesses of my Questionnaires is that on some questions the audience only had a choice of four options and some of them did not have the answer “other”. This could make my results in accurate because the answer the audience wants to choose is not there, which will force them to just pick an answer at random overall making my results less accurate and possibly making my final product less attractive. – Interviews- to do my interviews I talked to two people who are in my target audience and asked them what they look for in the magazines they read. The strengths of my interviews is that I have talked to two people who are specifically in my target audience, this is a strength because it means I can make sure that my product has all the features that make it appealing to my target audience.
  • 26. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? – I got quite a large response that consisted of more males then females and consisted of mostly people round the age of 17 or younger rather then anything else. My response was good and gave me a range of information on how to make my product more appealing to my target audience and what they like to see in the magazines they read. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – I distributed my survey by putting a link to it on blackboard on the York college website. The advantages of this is that a large amount of people will see the survey/possibly do it. This should mean that I get a large response from my target audience however the disadvantage is that this is not certain and I could possibly get a large response from people who are not in my target audience.
