In western films we usually see cowboys,
cowboy hats, guns, horses, dusty roads, sheriffs,
jail cells, etc. The setting is usually deserts,
mountains and rivers and small towns.

15. Iconography- Sci-Fi
• In Si-Fi films we usually see Aliens, other
planets, space ships, lasers, Superhero's, etc.
They are set in space, other planets, a
futuristic earth, etc.

In fantasy films we see made up
beings/creatures, futuristic earth/different
planets.

17. Narrative
• Narrative Definition: a spoken/written account of events.
• Linear Narrative Definition: a linear narrative is when a story is in order
(beginning, middle and end)
• Linear Narrative Film Example: some linear narrative film examples are
Dunkirk, Titanic and War Horse. All of these are to do with historical
events and are shown in order (beginning, middle and end)
• Non-Linear Narrative Definition: a film that is not in order, therefore we
may see the end of it first to give us a better understanding of the
plot/story. Flashbacks also take the film out of sequence.
• Non-Linear Narrative Film Example: an example of a non-linear narrative
film is deadpool.
