2. Question 1 - Age
• My magazines target age market is 16-24
• 53.6% of responses (26) were aged 16-19, with
14.29 people being age 20-23 (7)which means
the data collected is likely to well represent my
target market well. The majority of my target age
range was under 19, which could lead to some
bias towards the bottom end of my age range.
This data will be useful because I know where to
position my magazine at.
3. Question 2 - Gender
• My magazines main target audience is male
• 82.35% of my responses were male (42)
compared to just 7.84% (4) women. This
means data collected gives an accurate
representation of my target market because it
is mainly male.
4. Question 3 - Ethnicity
• My target market ethnicity is British.
• In my survey, 93.18 (41) responses were
Caucasian with 1 being multiple ethnicities.
• This follows my target market and as a result
my results will be useful for the target market.
This data will be useful because I know that
93% of my answers are from a part of my
target market.
5. Question 4 – How often do you read magazines each month?
• I plan to release my magazine monthly.
• The most popular result is once a month at
30.61% (15) of responses. This shows a
monthly magazine is more likely to be popular
as the most people only read one per month.
This data will be useful because I know how
frequently to publish the magazine.
6. Question 5 – Do you read music magazines?
65.31% (32)of my responses do not read music magazines compared to
34.69% (17) who do. This reduces the number of useful responses to my
survey. This data will be useful because it shows I will get some relevant
answers from people who read music magazines, but not useful because over
65% of my responses do not.
7. Question 5 – How many times do you read music
magazines per month?
This data will be useful because 72.22% (13) of responses read music magazines
monthly, therefore, a monthly music magazine would be best for my target market as
that’s the most common purchasing frequency. By publishing monthly, I can ensure a
high quality magazine.

interested in keeping up with
music current affairs, interviews
and if their favourite artists is
featured. This will help me with my
magazine because it shows the

magazine to be published?
The most popular answer at 51.43% (18) responses shows that a monthly
music magazine would be most effective because that is the most popular
response. This data will be useful because it helps me decide when to
publish my magazine.
10. Question 10 - How much would you be prepared to pay
for a music magazine?
Charging a more competitive price is a popular result, with the most popular price
being £3.40-£3.80 with the second most popular being up to £3. This shows that this is
the maximum price most people would be willing to pay and that lower prices would
attract a higher demand. This data will be useful because it shows me what I should
price my magazine to appeal to the maximum number of people in my target market.
11. 11) What genre of music do you listen to?
The most popular answers are Electronic, Pop, Rock and Indie which shows that an
indie rock magazine would be popular amongst my target market. However electronic
is the most popular answer, so an electronic magazine could be more popular. This
data will be useful because it shows the most popular genres and that Indie Rock will
be popular.
12. 12) Social Class
Aiming the magazine at a middle and working class would maximize the possible
audience for my magazine. This would mean a higher potential for sales. This
data will be useful because I can tailor my target market.
13. 13) Favorite colour
To help design a colour scheme for my magazine, I asked for peoples favorite colours. Blue,
green and red were the most popular. This data will be useful because I will use some of
these colours in my colour scheme and know that they are more likely to be popular with
the reader.

75.51% attended gigs or were interested in them, this means including gig
based content would be popular in my magazine. A large proportion of people
attended at least 1 gig a year. This data will be useful because it shows me that
gig based content will be popular with my target market.
15. 16) If you buy music magazines, what attracts you to
buy that magazine?
What artists are featured in the magazine is important to
weather the reader decides to read the magazine or not. As a
result, featuring quality artists will be an important feature in
my magazine as it will be popular. This data will be useful
because it shows me that focusing on artists for my magazine
will be successful with my target market.
16. 17) Do you prefer magazines with lots
of pictures?
64.4% of responses preferred magazines with lots of photos which shows me that a
less text heavy and more photo based layout will be popular. This data will be useful
because it will help me design the layout and house style of my magazine.
17. 18) What names do you like?
22.2% liked Rock as the title with New Music Thing with the same amount, sound came
second with 20% of the vote but my personal favourite answer was Listen. As a result, I
am likely to use one of the 4 as my title.
18. 19) Have you heard of/listen to any of the
following bands?
Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and all of
the above were popular answers,
which shows my audience was
familiar with the bands of my genre
as nobody answered none of the
above. All of the above was
approximately 30% of the answers
submitted with coldplay having 14%
and Arctic Monkeys having 18%.
This data will be useful because I
know what type of bands people
enjoy and would be interested to
read about.
19. 20) What would you expect to see in an indie
rock music magazine?
Music news (24.4%) and reviews (22.2%) made up the most popular answers with
new music a close third at 17.78%. This data will be useful because it shows me
what features are important to include in my magazine for it to be popular with
my target market.
20. *21) How often do you buy albums?
Never was the most popular answer at 28.57% which suggests people
aren’t interested in purchasing music, but 71.83% do buy albums, which
is significantly more. Annually (16.33%), monthly (12.24%), every 2
months (12.24%) and every 6 months (10.20%) were the most popular
answers in this category. This data will be useful because it shows me that
music fans have answered my survey as they purchase music, additionally
it shows how frequent they purchase music. As a result, I can tailor my
magazine to this by offering a top 5 songs guide and similar content.
21. 22) How many pages would you like a
music magazine to be?
With 31.11% of the vote, less than 50 pages was the most popular
answer and between 50-60 pages (22.22%) being second it shows that a
smaller, high quality magazine is desired by the survey audience. This
data will be useful because it shows me the size of magazine people
want.
22. 23) What free gift would you like with
the magazine?
Free CD with 50% of the vote was the most popular by far, which shows this
would be attract people to buy the magazine. This data will be useful because it
shows what I could include on a splash on my front cover.

up and coming bands?
This data will be useful because 84.78% of my survey responses want to see new
artists featured, which shows this is a must to include in my magazine
24. 25) Where do you hear about new artists?
Social media (47.73%), Spotify and Radio (22.73%) are the main methods of hearing
about new artists according to my survey, which shows me where people look to find
new music. This data will be useful because it shows social media and radio are the
main places people hear new music, with less finding it in magazines. As a result, this
could create a market niche for my magazine.

formal or informal writing?
48.98% of my survey are not affected by writing style but informal is preferred
by 42.86% of my responses. This data will be useful because I know to produce
my magazine in an informal style as it’s the most desired response my answers.
26. 27) What do you dislike about music magazines?
81.4% of my survey response were happy with the current music magazines ,
but 16.28% explained flaws. Over advertising and poor reviews and writing are
cited as main problems. This data will be useful because it shows me what to
avoid when producing my magazine so as to make the reader want to read.
27. 28) What fonts do you prefer?
70.21% of responses say font does not affect weather they read a magazine or
not, with 23.4% preferring bold fonts. This shows that bold fonts are preferred
but not essential in my magazine. This data will be useful because it shows
people largely little interest in font as long as it is easily readable and legible.
