The survey results show that more females responded than males. Most respondents were between ages 16-20. Many do not currently read music magazines but may be open to a new magazine. Most would pay between £2-£5 for a monthly magazine and are interested in images, interviews, and tour dates. Pop music was the most popular genre. Many agreed they would subscribe to a magazine and prefer online access in addition to print. Respondents most often listen to music on their phone, showing the importance of online and mobile access.
1. Analysis of my survey results…
Collected on Survey monkey…
Overall sum of responses…
62 Thank You!...
Question 1
From this data I can clearly see I have had a
larger number of Female (39) responses to my
Survey than males (23). I can interpret that my
overall answers to the following questions in the
Survey are going to be therefore slightly gender
biased. I can expect to see a difference however
males has still taken part in the exercise and
therefore still view a male genders approach to
my Survey. Would have been better if I had had
a balance however I can use this to target
female readers by following the results gathered
from my Questionnaire.
Analysis 1
2. Question 2
Analysis 2
My graph shows that 26 (41.94%) people
who took part in the Survey are between the
age band of 16-20. therefore I can expect to
use a large part of these results in
understanding what the younger audience
wants in a music magazine and use this to my
advantage being a young member of society
myself. I have a good level of opinions from
the working age group which will help my in
designing a magazines presentation and level
of maturity that is often required to make a
professional abstract magazine. I have even
got a small number (4 responses) from the
older generation being 51 years and above.
Actually in all the age bands I have had at
least 3 responses indicating my results in all
the other questions to follow will have a
mixed level of opinions across the board
therefore oiving me moe ideas to work with.
3. Question 3
Analysis 3
From this graph I can identify the a large
number of people who took part in the survey
do not read music magazines, in fact 20 people
out of a possible 62. from this I can possible
source this number of people as possible buyers
of my magazine, look at the answers they gave
and make a magazine that appeals to there
psychographics and demographics. There was a
small percentage of people who admitted they
buy magazines every fortnight, therefore I will
not look to develop my magazine into a product
released every 2 weeks as its here seen as
unpopular. Seeing ‘yearly’ and ‘monthly’ as a
high scoring figure I will aim to target my
magazine as a monthly release and this is when
my Survey suggests most consumers look to buy
a magazine.
4. Question 4
Analysis 4
Out of a possible 61 respondents (therefore 1
individual skipped) 46 of then said no they don’t
read music magazines. This only left 15 of the
surveyed claiming they do. This infers that a large
number of people I have received and accounted
results for do not read a magazine of this nature, if
any and therefore are not buyers of this industry.
From there answers I can maybe be able to suit the
magazines to there interests and hopefully create a
magazine where a large number of non readers of
music magazines will buy my magazine instead. This
means my results may be possibly unreliable
considering they do not know a lot about this
product/other products. In the previous slide 42
citizens admitted to buying some sort of magazine
with no general subject therefore about only half of
them invest in precisely music magazines.
5. Question 5
Analysis 5
In the prices question the data received tells me
almost half of the people who did this survey (27)
said they would pay between £2.26 and £5 for a
magazine. Only 1 respondent would pay over £5
and the rest went for £2.25 and lower. As a single
value on the Y axis, the £2.26-£5 value came out
most popular. His could be because the results
reflect in a audience who have some good
disposable income and are looking for a quality
magazine that is clearly of more price. Younger
audiences would often go for low price being a age
group often with considerable low disposable
income, therefore this reflects the age of most
individuals taking part in my Survey (refer the
question 2). Having decided upon a monthly
magazine based on feedback received I believe I
will charge for my magazine a figure between £3-
£4 bring a monthly release and my aim to bring
quality to my release.
6. Question 6
Analysis 6
In this question,3 of the values came
out as high scores in what my
respondents like to see in a
magazine. These were images and
photography's, tour dates and
interviews. This tells me that the
readers are interested in the visual
presentation of an magazine and like
to see colour gradients and eye
catching shapes etc. on the pages. I
can also infer most of the people
would like to o visit music concerts
and are very interested in the actual
involvement of seeing music of there
interest. Therefore I think these are
subject areas that I must include in
my magazine to draw in readers. The
market audience are interested in
hearing from bands so interviews
and other content regarding music is
very important too. The giveaways
value received a low figure of 22
people wanting to see this.
In the ‘other’ row I received 5 further
comments regarding other things people like to
see in a magazine. 3 of these just stated they
were not interesting in magazine, therefore not
of value to my research and the others
mentioned music reviews and models in the
magazines. Again models is relating to the
visual presentation of the product and which
clearly is very important to my participants and
will be to world audiences as well. Its therefore
key I get this right when designing my product
to make it as eye catching and professional as
possible. Reviews relates to my actual text
content which is expected to be of high quality.
7. Question 7 Analysis 7
The value ‘pop’, referring to Pop music, on this came out favourite as an average over the
other genres of music. 24 people put this as there favourite genre compared to 1 individual
putting pop as there least favourite. Pop came out with the lowest sum of placed last (8th)
with only 1 person claiming they would put pop as there least favourite. As I understand
Pop music here is the clear favourite so in my magazine I should aim to feature a large
verity of pop artists. Out of all the genre options rap appeared to be least favourite on
average, Along side heavy metal. Rap had 2 people who classed it as there favourite
whereas 10 respondents gave it bottom place in the rankings. The most rankings on any
value for least favourite was 15, this genre was heavy metal. From this I understand these
results tell me many dislike rap and heavy mental as a music genre and I should avoid this
possibly in creating my product as interest in this music is very limited. Only specialist
audiences take great desire to engage with this music and should I aim to do that, comes at
risk of the majority.
8. Question 8
Analysis 8
In my Responses no one skipped this question which
means these results are much more reliable than data on
previous questions. In total 24 out of 62 people answered
yes, less than the 38 people who said no. therefore this
infers that the more disagree to wanting to subscribe if
they had to chance with a magazine. However question 4,
the data told me that 15 people said they read music
magazines. Therefore more people have agreed that they
would be interested in the subscribing process than actual
magazine readers, overall means that there is a positive
reasoning behind subscription and more people believe its
beneficial. For my magazine I think this could be an
important selling point, considering that people find it
desirable and interesting. Also I plan to make my magazine
a monthly release and subscription might suit the nature
of the sales process.
9. Question 9
Analysis 9
My survey results show that out of a potential 61
responses (1 individual skipped the question) 34
said they would prefer online access over only
paper back (27 said no). I can conclude that
Internet access thought the magazine industry is
considered important to these viewers. Social
networking now in its prime of popularity is a great
source of information that users will access on a
regular basis. Therefore if I can incorporate this
media platform into my magazine product I believe
it would be a great success as people would
sometimes prefer to access on mobile devices, etc
and it could be considered easier to get a product
you want to read.
10. Question 10
Analysis 10
All citizens that took part in the survey answered this question ‘how do
you listen to your music’. This was a question where the respondent had
to option to select as many ways to how they access music as needed so
there are much more responses than participants, for example 144 votes
out of the 62 people. Therefore each person picked on average 2.32 ways
on accessing there music therefore showing people listen to tune is a
range of ways using the different media platforms. The highest answered
value was the ‘I-pod/Phone’ option that 48 out of a possible 62 people
picked as the way they access music. The other values in order of votes
form highest to lowest was as follows, CD, Radio, Streaming, vinyl and
then other. Vinyl had 8 votes and is therefore the lowest out of the values
individually. In my magazine I could possibly use online content via the
world wide web to create my own radio station but more importantly
according ot these people an app that is downloadable from the phone.
In the others column, all respondents put
comments relating to ‘Apps’ that are
accessible via the phone or other media
platforms. The amount of comments on this
one stresses the participants opinions but
also there ways to access it. This is all online
use from the internet. My magazine is going
to have to incorporate this media platform
because of its popularity but range of
possibilities it allows
