2. Female
Male
From my results I can see that the majority of people who
answered my questionnaire were female. I deliberately
handed out most of my questionnaires to girls as my
magazines target audience are teen girls. The artists
featured on the front cover will be ones who have a large
teen fan base, this is so it is specific to the audience.

From my results I can see that most of the people who filled in my
questionnaire are 16. This will help me find out what features the
teen audience like on a music magazine. It will also show if they all
have similar preferences or different. 4 people of different ages filled
in my questionnaire so I could see how their answers varied, this can
help me in the making of my magazine so I know what teens are
specifically interested in.
4. Who is your favorite pop
singer/band?
Justin Bieber One direction
The Weeknd Adele
Beyonce Katy Perry
The killers Ellie Goulding
Bastille The Vamps
Little Mix Lady Gaga
Most of the answers for the question ‘Who is your favourite pop
singer/band’ varied, this shows that I will have to use a range of
singers on the front cover and inside the magazine so it can relate to
the target audience. The most popular singer in the pop genre for
teens was Beyonce(as shown on pie chart) followed by Katy Perry, I
will therefore be using both artists on my magazine cover to intrigue
the right audience.

The chart bellow shows that 14
people out of 20 said they would be
willing to pay £2.00+ for a music
magazine, 4 said £1.50 - £2.00 and
2 people said they would pay £1.50
- £2.00. As no one chose 0p-£1.00 I
will not make my magazine a price
in-between the two. Most of the
audience chose £2.00+ which can
help me decide how to price my
magazine. I will make my magazine
£2.50 as this is not too expensive
yet not too cheap. My magazine will
be a monthly addition so £2.50 is a
accessible amount to all. My music
magazine will also come with a free
gift and posters, this makes the
price more appropriate at the
audience are receiving something
with there magazine.

6. List 3 words you would associate
with the pop genre.
From this question I can see that the top words listed were loud(7
times), popular(5 times) followed by happy and colourful both
chosen 4 times. From this I will use some of the chosen words on
the front cover of my magazine as (Masthead, slogan or cover
lines) this is so when someone looks at my magazine and see’s
some of those words used on the front cover they will realise that
it is a music magazine based on the genre of pop. I will also be
applying these words so the magazine is specific to the target
audience as they are words in which mostly teens would associate
with pop. My chart is shown on the next page.

How many times a week do
you buy a music magazine?
From my questionnaire I can see that
12 out of 20 people do not buy
magazines weekly. 5 people buy music
magazines once a week, 2 people buy
them twice a week and one person said
they buy music magazines 3 times a
week. These results will alter the
frequency of publication for my
magazine. I will make my magazine
monthly rather than weekly as the
majority said they buy 0 magazines per
week. If I make it weekly this will
benefit the majority of people and will
be more aimed at what the audience
want.

What features do you like to read
inside a music magazine?
For this question the most popular answer was Interviews(7 people
chose) and articles(3 people chose). Therefore I will base the features I
have inside my magazine on this, I will include both articles and
interviews inside my magazine so the magazine will interest the
audience and include things they like. All the other information
gathered from this question varied so I may use some of the other
features inside so it interests a wider teen audience.
10. What would interest you into
buying a music magazine?
The results from this question show that most people would
want a free gift with there magazine(6 chosen). Another thing
which would interest the audience into buying the magazine
was if the magazine had there favourite artist on the front cover
(5 people chose). This will change how I make my magazine as
I now know what will inteuege my chosen target audience in to
buying a magazine. The other answered which I gathered from
my question varied therefore I will only use a few of the things
inside my magazine such as known celeb on the front and
interviews. The chart from my questions results are on the next
page.

12. What do you dislike about the
magazines you currently read?
I have included this question within my questionnaire so I can find
out what teenagers do not like about the music magazines they
currently read and base what I include in my magazine on this
information. From this chart I can see that the majority (9 people)
said they do not like too much text on a magazine, therefore I will not
use too much text on my magazine. The second most popular answer
was All are similar and Boring interviews both with 3 votes on each, I
now know what not to include in my magazine so the magazine is
relevant to the audience and has features on/inside it that will
interest my target audience. The chart of my results from this
question are shown on the next page.
14. What is your favourite colour?
I asked on my questionnaire what is your favourite colour? So I
could find out what the most popular colour was for teenage girls
and also a colour in which I could use for my front cover. The most
popular colour chosen was purple(5 people chose), from this I know
now to use purple on my front cover as it is a popular colour for
teen girls and they are more likely to pick up a magazine if the
colour purple is on it. Purple was followed by, red, light blue and
dark purple so I may also use these colours on my magazine front
cover. However I am only going to use 2-3 colours on my front
cover as this is one of the main codes and conventions of a music
magazine, the colours will also be ones which go well with each
other. My results are shown on the next page.

What free gift would you like to
receive with a music magazine?
From my results I can see that
most people would like posters
included within there
magazine(9 people chose). From
this I will have free posters with
my magazine as this will help me
attract a wider audience if most
teens would want to receive a
free poster with there magazine.
The posters will have female
popular singers/bands on as this
will intrigue the audience.
17. What colours would you
associate with the pop genre?
From this question I can see from the results I gathered
that most teens would associate the colours pink, blue
and yellow with the pop genre. Most said blue(7 people)
so I may use blue on the front cover of my magazine so
when people see the magazine they will realise it is
based on the pop genre. By using these colours it will
also show that the magazine is based towards girls as
most of the varied results are colours that we would
associate with girls for example, bright pink, light blue
and bright colours were also chosen. My chart is shown
on the next page.

Do you enter competitions featured
inside music magazines?
I asked whether they entered
competitions featured inside
magazines so I know whether
to include them inside my
magazine. 12 people out of
the 20 said no which shows I
do not have to focus on
including competitions inside
my magazine.
20. What would make you pick up a
magazine from a shelve?
On my questionnaire I asked what would make you pick up a
magazine from a shelve so I know what I should include on my
front cover in order for it to stand out and appeal to my target
audience. The 3 most popular answers were Main image of
favourite artist, eye catching and colourful. From these results I
can tell what I should include on my front cover in order for it to
intrigue my target audience. Although I cannot use a famous
celebrity on the front cover (as I am taking original images) I
could base my cover lines on popular pop singers/bands which
teenage girls like. This will interest them into buying the
magazine as there favourite pop singers will be featured within
the magazine. From my results from the question ‘favourite pop
singer’ I can see that Beyonce and Katy Perry are the most
popular. I may use these two artists on the cover lines as they
have been chosen as the most popular, my graph is shown on the
next page.
22. Do you prefer one main image on

ones?

15 people out of the 20
said they would prefer
one main image on the
front cover of the
magazine, from this I
know I should use one
main image on the front
cover on my magazine.
As 5 people chose
various small images I
have decided to use
small images above cover
lines to show what will be
featured within the
magazine.
23. On the double page spread would
you prefer one main image or
various small images?
The results of this question came
back the same as ‘one main
image or various small images on
the front cover?’, this tells me
that teenagers are more
interested in a page if there is
one main eye catching image
rather than small ones. I will
base how I make my double page
spread on this as I now know
that most would prefer one main
image.

24. Would you prefer a story
or an interview on a
double page spread?

The majority of people
(13) said they would
prefer an interview on a
double page spread
rather than a story. This
will change how I make
my magazine as I will
now have an interview
on my magazines double
page spread as
teenagers are more
interested in this rather
than a story.
I think they prefer
interviews as you can
find out interesting
things about a certain
artist in which you do
not know.
