Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
Contents page
Layout
• The layout for my contents page is
pretty straight forward where
everything on the page had an
order of some sort. Everything on
the page has a clear and concise
concept. This shows that I have
used this convention from other
magazines as it was easier to
replicate rather than challenging it
which not only would confuse me,
but would confuse and look
unappealing to my target audience.
Masthead
• I had followed the convention of
having a masthead at the top of my
front cover, which is just on top of
the issue date. I had kept the font
colour the same as it was on the
front cover. I had used the
convention of having the word
‘contents’ put next to the
masthead head title to title the
contents page itself. I also used the
convention of having the masthead
being the biggest piece of text on
the page so that it is clear for the
reader of the magazine to see it.
Images
• I have challenged the convention
of using only one main image for
my contents page by having
three images with two that are
not associated with the front
cover model and its cover story. I
have challenged another
convention as I have added an
image of the front cover model
into the contents page to give a
different visual of how she looks
to my target audience.
Cover lines
• I have used the convention of
having my cover lines on either
side of the front cover page as it
allows my target audience to see
them clearly without having to
search or think that they are
something else. I have used all of
my front cover, cover lines and
adapted them so this is also a
convention that I used from
looking and researching about
other music magazines.
Issue date
• I had continued to challenge the
convention of having my issue date
at the left hand side just beneath
the masthead as I had done with
the front cover page. Though I have
challenged the issue date in some
aspects, I have also kept the
convention as I have made the
issue date by using the month and
the year like I had done of the front
cover instead of challenging it by
doing something different to it.
