The document discusses strategies for distributing a pop culture magazine called "Pop It". It proposes mainstream distribution through retail outlets like supermarkets, newsagents, and HMV music stores. It also suggests online distribution through a website for the magazine, which would allow ordering, behind-the-scenes content, and competitions to engage the target audience. Overall, the mainstream and multi-platform approach aims to maximize sales and profits by making the magazine widely accessible and attracting an audience online, though it notes this comes with more competition.
1. What Kind Of Media Institution
Might Distribute Your Media
Product And Why?
2. Mainstream Distribution
I was inspired by the pop magazine “We <3 Pop” and the
system they use. It would be published by a media company
and then distributed around national and eventually
internationally distributed. This would give access to major
retail outlets and also could be sold online.
My magazine will benefit from this form of distribution as my
target audience will be able to easily find and buy the
magazine. My magazine is going to be sold a little bit cheaper
then “We <3 Pop” magazine at a price that I think will be
suitable, my magazine will be sold at £2.00 which I think is a
reasonable price for a magazine.
3. Where To Sell?
My magazine will be sold in places that my target audience
would buy it from. I can see “Pop It” being sold inside
Tesco's’, W.H.Smith, Sainsbury's, Morrison's and also in
Post Offices. I think that this would easily sell because my
target audience would be attracted to it if they saw it in the
shop. I also think HMV would be a good place to sell my
magazine because the shop is quite popular and my target
audience would be in there buying favourite music, this
would help sales in the magazine.
I have chosen these places to sell my magazine mostly due
to the popularity of the shops and also because my target
audience would mostly be seen shopping here. My
magazine would hopefully be able to stand out from the rest
of the magazines and sell more.
4. Multi Platform
I have decided that I am going to have a website for my
magazine. This website will allow my target audience to
order and buy my magazine instead of going to shops to find
it, this should make it more easier for some of my target
audience. My website will show behind the scenes footage
from photo shoots, celebrity news, new music, fashion and
make up tips, sneak peaks of next month’s magazine,
competitions and also a music calendar of music events that
are in the year.
Using the internet will be useful because my target
audience will be more attracted to my magazine and will be
able to keep up with everything that’s happening around
them. They would like the idea of seeing what’s been
happening behind the scenes of photo shoots because they
would like to see all the clothes used and how the make up
has been put on.
5. Strategy
I think by choosing the way I have chosen to take my
magazine through the mainstream path, I think that the sales
would be very good. Because my magazine will be sold in
popular shops and also online it makes it easier for my
magazine to be found and bought, this will help the profits.
By having a website available this should attract my target
audience and make them want to go and buy the magazine
or subscribe to the magazine.
However, taking the mainstream route also is harder
because there are other magazines that have the same type
of genre as my magazine and so this will lead to more
competition.
