1. Question 3
What kind of media
institution might distribute
your media product and why?
CERYS MEE
2. Bauer Media
Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company, based in Germany. It
manages more than 600 magazines, 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV
stations around the world. I am focusing on the magazines they manage. The
one that made me think this is the right institute for me is Kerrang! They are a
rock magazine that I took inspiration from because it has a similar age for target
audience than my magazine. Another rock magazine they manage is Mojo. I
didn’t really look at this magazine very much but I do know that they are a very
good rock magazine to take inspiration form.
3. Time Inc.
Time Inc. is an American mass media company founded on November 28th in
1922. It owns over 100 magazine brands like Time, Sports Illustrated, Travel +
Leisure, Food & Wine, Fortune, and People. Even though these are not rock
magazines I feel that this would be a good magazine institution to do because it
manages all the higher and more popular magazines and so if it also managed
my magazine it could make it more known and so it would gain more viewers.
4. Appropriate Institution
Easily, I think the one I would go for would be Bauer because it manages other
rock magazine and it seems to want to share the same kind of vibe as my
magazine. Also the things it managed seemed to be for the same kind of target
audience as my magazine. Because it manages Kerrang! and Mojo it will share
some publicity for my magazine as well because they will have the same aged
audience and they would have the same vibe and the magazines can also relate
to each other.
5. Institutions Logos
I forgot about including a logo, however if I remembered then I would have
made my own do it fit in with the magazine and I would edit it if needed so that I
could change or add any colours I wanted. Also my colour scheme doesn’t really
suit many colours or logos that are round at the moment. However looking at
lots of other products, they didn’t seem to pay much attention to many of these
features and so I could have chosen any institution, regardless of the colour or
shape, that would fit my magazine’s standards.
6. Distribution
One way I could distribute my magazine is by a website. I think this would be a
really good way to see my magazine. Also, in my magazine on the contents page
I put a website address on there so that people could see my product online.
This would also be useful because you can not only share the magazine or
advertise the magazine but you could also share videos of interviews or you
could show an article in video form to make it more interactive.

Another option is an app. I think this would be a good way of sharing the
magazine whilst also being able to share things like videos. You could even share
songs or albums or merchandise but other than the same things as the website
option, you can, on an app, have the readers notified of any updates via a
mobile phone. A website could only do this by notifying the reader by e-mail but
this would be more awkward for the reader. Also, an app can be downloaded on
any device and the notifications can be set to each individual, making it a unique
experience for everyone.
8. Continued
Direct e-mail is my final idea for distributing my magazine. I feel that this would
be a good idea following a website idea because direct personal notification of
updates and of new magazines can engage the reader more and make the
reader feel a personal connection between the magazine and the reader. This
would also be good because there would be less distractions. In apps there
would most likely be things like adverts for clothing or make up but with an e-
mail it is straight to the point and straight to the updates and the information
the reader wants to know without any offers for other shopping sites etc.
9. Appropriate Distribution
I think that for my magazine an app would be better. This is because my magazine is aimed at
people who are more likely to use apps and their devices that access these apps more often.
This is going by the stereotype of teens and young adults constantly being with their head down
looking at their phones or tablets.
Another reason is because in my magazine I have included addresses for things like Facebook
pages and for Instagram pages which this age group will be attracted and other social media
apps like these and Twitter and Telegram etc. I think that this is the best thing for my magazine
to have an app or to at least be on the institution app with Kerrang! and Mojo for more publicity.
