2. Important Choice
Different institutions can be responsible for representing
certain genres, which is why it’s vital that the institution
distributing our film has to fit the genre our film is conveying.
Since we’re putting together a thriller, we saw fit to do some
research into distribution companies and compile a list of both
appropriate and inappropriate companies for us to potentially
use. This will help improve the general feel of professionalism
within the film, and start as we mean to carry on.
4. 20th Century Fox
We feel that 20th Century Fox would not be
appropriate as our distributor; This is because
they tend to specialise in family and comedy
oriented films. For example they were the
distributor of films such as The Simpson’s Movie,
Home Alone and Ice Age, and we don’t want to
necessarily be associated with films of this sort
of stature. However despite this they have
produced films such as Gone Girl and Alien
which are undoubtedly not of similar style,
nevertheless they are anomalies among the
collection of films they have produced
5. Warner Bros.
Very much like 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros.
has a very prestigious reputation for being very
family friendly. For example Looney Tunes is
Warner Bros. most widely known creation aside
from the likes of Harry Potter. Despite having
distributed things such as The Dark Knight and
Friday The 13th, they’ve maintained this
reputation and have become a household name
in the realm of cartoons and children’s film all
around the world. We believe that we are not
looking to appeal to children as such, so since
our demographic do not correspond with theirs,
we decided to not use them.
7. Lionsgate
Lionsgate have paired
with Twisted Pictures
to produce and
distribute some of the
most prolific horror
films of the past
decade. For example
the Saw films, as well
as Saw 3D. The logo
itself has a much more
thrilling and dark feel to
it, which is more the
vibe we’re going for.
The others have
distributed thrillers yes,
but Lionsgate have
been consistent
in maintaining their genre. The fact that they are consistently distributing
thrillers makes them the front runner for who we are going to use. I think it’s
vital that we try to keep the afore discussed professionalism.
8. Blumhouse
Blumhouse have a very significant impact on the
world of horror; Like Lionsgate they have also
produced and distributed some of the most
highly credited horror films of my generation
such as Insidious 1, 2 and 3, Sinister 1 and 2 and
The Babadook. Since these films all revolve
around the supernatural, and we are going for
that style, we saw fit they would be a very good
institution to use for our film.
