EXT. PROTAGONIST’S HOUSE – LATE NIGHT
In the middle of a quiet town an eerie silence rings.
(MEDIUM/LONG ESTABLISHING SHOT OF HOUSE)
CUT INTO BEDROOM:
INT. PROTAGONISTS BEDROOM – LATE NIGHT
CLOSE UP TRACKING shot of feet as they walk alongside the
bed. Bed is neatly made and curtains are parted. Casual
clothes/nightwear being worn as vaguely seen in the above
shot. Screen fades to black and is followed by a slow PAN
shot of the room, surroundings are established with dim
lighting and the curtains moving due to the wind. OVER
THE SHOULDER SHOT of protagonist sorting out clothes/ bed
cover. MEDIUM SHOT of closing the curtains. CUT to black
screen.
FADE/DISSOLVE TO ROOM IN HOUSE:
INT. PROTAGONIST’S HOUSE – MORNING (DREAM)
BRIGHT LIGHTING or effect used to further indicate dream.
LOW ANGLE SHOT of Protagonist walking down the stairs.
PJ’s still on. CLOSE UP SHOT of protagonist’s slipper at
the bottom of the stairs. SHOT REVERSE SHOT TECHNIQUE and
TRACKING SHOT of protagonist as she walks towards the
kitchen door. Protagonist then opens kitchen door.
CUT TO BEDROOM:
INT. PROTAGONIST’S BEDROOM – LATE NIGHT
No longer a dream. Black and white screen as the CURTAINS
are shown flapping in the wind whilst the protagonist
still sleeps. CLOSE UP shot of protagonist’s DISTURBED
FACE.
DISSOLVE/FLASH TO KITCHEN:
MATCH ON ACTION of protagonist opening and then reaching
into the drawer. LOW ANGLE SHOT from the drawer looking
up at a DULL/TIRED EXPRESSION. MEDIUM CLOSE UP of
protagonist holding a KNIFE from the drawer in front of
her face. Focus on the KNIFE with images in the
background blurred.
CUT/FLASH TO IMAGE:
Black and white screen showing image of the Knife hanging
over the edge of a desk. BLOOD dripping from knife as the
image shakes and looks scratchy.
CUT TO KITCHEN:
Over the shoulder shot of protagonist using the knife too
cut food up. CLOSE UP of one half of protagonist’s face
so as to see behind them. CUT to a black and white screen
showing a MEDIUM CLOSE UP of a GLASS OF WATER rippling on
the kitchen worktop as a shadow moves past. Eyeline match
as protagonist looks behind them to see nothing. MEDIUM
CLOSE UP of protagonist’s hands trembling. POINT OF VIEW
SHOT as something continues to move towards protagonist.
CUT/FADE TO PIER:
EXT. PIER – AFTERNOON
BLACK AND WHITE EFFECT on the screen. LONG SHOT as a
scruffy dressed man slowly walks away from the camera.
KNIFE seen in one hand as the man stops still. Everything
on screen sweeps away as the screen fades to black.
CUT TO HALLWAY:
The door slowly swings open. The protagonist is seen
sleeping in bed looking disturbed whilst struggling and
thrashing around in bed. 180 DEGREE rule maintained as
protagonist is approached. The scene becomes tense. An
EXTREME CLOSE UP of the eyes is used as they suddenly
open as the tension climaxes. The screen CUTS to black to
show final opening credits. A PAN SHOT and POINT OF VIEW
shot are used to show the protagonist’s blurry vision as
they slowly fall back to sleep.
